Date of Scene: 29 January 2024
Location: Yancy Street New York City
Synopsis: The Yancy Kids are outmanuevered in petty crime.
Cast of Characters: Ben Grimm, June Connor

Ben Grimm has posed:
Ben is trying to make peace with the Yancy Street Gang. Among the which are, the fact that the money they got for the musical which was supposed to delivered to the Foundation charity, is in crypto and being used for more pranks on him. he sits on the stoops talking with three of the boys in winter gear whilst they listen skeptically. The street is sparsely populated for this time of day, enough that someone might try to commit a minor crime such as car theft or B&E. The gang is always watching, however. Their eyes are everywhere on the street.

June Connor has posed:
June has a black coat with a fur lined hood on. Stupid cold weather. It might have once been a nice coat, but it' looks like it's been smudged and scraped a bit, and her blue jeans are shredded on her lower half. Not the most condusive to staying warm. She keeps her hands in her pockets as she walks down the street, heading for the business in question. They owe someone money, and rather than make a big dramatic war over the money, she's been sent to simply collect by stealing it. She catches sight of Ben, her green eyes judgmentally resting on him as she approaches, but she says nothing, eventually tearing her eyes away and looking ahead at the shop that she is supposed to break into.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The Thing shakes his head,"Look, you cant just keep the money. The feds will be all over it. Like the IRS. Those guys took out Al Capone. You dont want that heat."

The leader sighs, "We need to take it under advisement."

"What advisement? I'm advising you that this is dumb and being kids or knowing me will only help you so far."

The store owner looks up and smiles as she enters, not making judgments on her appearance at all, "Can I help you ma'am?"

A coupla kids go into the store and look at some comic books.

June Connor has posed:
June sniffs a little, a runny nose from the cold air. "Yeah," she says. "Waldo sent me over. Says it's time to pay up," she informs him, making no aggressive movements. "Not gonna beat you up or anythin' if I don't gotta, but just gotta leave this building with that $1500." Hardly a huge debt as far as gang activity goes. Not worth anyone's life, not worth a turf war, but to Waldo, worth making sure people know they can't just /not/ pay what they owe.

She glances over her shoulder, checking to identify the location of the kids who entered the store, but she doesn't pay them much extra attention.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The Shopkeeper throws up his hands and looks around the store. He points to several car batteries, "You have the ability to take those?" At 100 apiece, 15 should do the job.

The kids look at each other at this activity but dont interfere..yet. They send a text.

One of the two kids with Ben checks his phone and says, "I"ll be back in a sec" and walks away into the shop. The other kid, meanwhile, increases his distraction of the large hero. "So are you sayin we need to get an accountant?"

"What? NO. That"s what the foundation is for. Just move the money into their account and they will do what they shoulda done in the first place. Dont think I dont notice the new hat."

"Really, you like it?"

"yeah kid, its great, but thats not the point."

June Connor has posed:
June glances in the direction of the batteries. "Seriously? Those things weigh like thirty pounds each? I'm not gonna lug fifteen car batteries to pay your stupid debt," she answers with a scowl. "Just empty the register. He wants money, not stuff he's gotta resell somewhere." She doesn't seem to notice the text go off, but as the third heads into the store, she does notice that, and opens her stance, giving the store owner a profile view so that she can keep a better eye on what's happening behind her. Just in case.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The Shop Keeper says, "I have $500 at best in the register, amd won't have change to make more sales...what about the burner phones over there?" He motions with his head, likely around a thousand worth there.

The new kid motions with his head to June to speak to him over on tbe side. Kid can't be more than 11.

June Connor has posed:
As the shop keeper peddles his options, June stares him down with a look that doesn't fit someone of her small size. She's got that look as if she thinks she's double the man's height. "Burner phones?" she asks. "Plus the $500? I hate this. Why can't you just give the money? I'll check with Waldo's guy."

June pulls out her phone, which has a cracked screen, and she starts to dial Waldo's contact. She pauses as she notes the new kid and his nod for her to come over to him. "I'm too old for you, kid. Piss off." Apparently she's not interested in being side tracked.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The kid says,"Interesting." There is a pause where he adds,"We got an understan w Waldo that anything over that is with us...interestin him sending you for the lower cost. Ask him for the emergency 2K he keeps in the coffee can in the back." The sooner June is gone, the sooner the cops won'tr care. "We split the extra."

June Connor has posed:
June narrows her eyes at the kid, pursing her lips, seeming to assess what he says and it's worth. She doesn't answer, but instead just turns her head back to shop keeper. She doesn't ask verbally for it. Instead, she just arches her brow at the man for an acknowledgment.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The Shop Keeper sighs and goes to get the coffee can, sighing. There is 2K there. The kid smiles.

June Connor has posed:
As the coffee can is produced, June gives an indifferent look to the kid, and then looks at the open can. She reaches in and grabs the entirety of the cash. She was sent for $1500, not $2000. No reason she can't make an extra bit for herself, though. She drops $200 back in the can, a smug grin at the shop keeper, as if she dares him to argue, and she stuffs the wad into the back pocket of her jeans.

Ben Grimm has posed:
The kid is indignant and goes for a hidden switch blade but one of the others with him head motions to Grimm. The kid stops and looks at June darkly but lays off.

The shop keeper actualoy smiles since they got cut out of the loop.

June Connor has posed:
June gives the kid a mild look of contempt. She doesn't respect him, even for helping her. To her, he's just another snot-nosed brat. Even if she is only slightly taller than him, she doesn't look the least bit intimidated. She notices the smile on the shopkeeper's face, and it takes her a moment to realize why. When she gets it, she gives a huff of a laugh, and turns to walk out the door. She walks back down along the sidewalk, this time directly past Ben, and gives a quick mock salute, as if they were some level of friends. Surely that happens, given the Thing's history of saving the world on multiple occassions. For June, though, it's just the pleasure of doing something right in front of a hero, and getting away with it.
