Broody Rooftops in Gotham
Date of Scene: 29 January 2024
Location: Roof - Renovated Theatre - The Roost
Synopsis: So a bunch of Birds are on a Roof...
Cast of Characters: Phoebe Beacon, Tim Drake, Strix

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
The Rooftop Garden had been tended and winterized, the patch of grass from the re-enforced roof top for use of any of the myriad pets that make their way here with Outsiders is covered, and having brushed off a section of roof to sit on looking out over the city, the broom she'd used to clear off the dusting of snow from the most recent flurry at her side. There's an assortment of coffees and cocoas set on a drink carrier, along with a slightly steaming bag of pastries from some small coffee house or another.

Phoebe is in civvies, wearing an orange pompom knit hat over her pink curls and kinks, a gray jacket with an orange stripe running down the left side, and tall, warm boots.

Tim Drake has posed:
Dressed as Red Robin, but with his mask off, Tim sits fearlessly at the edge of the rooftop with his legs dangling. The occasional breeze catches his red and black cape. He is swiping through news stories on a phone. "Nope." Swipe. "No, thank you." Swipe. "Read it." Swipe. "Are you serious?" Swipe. Then..."OH WOW!" The nerd light in his eyes turns on. "Oh my god, Phebes," Tim says excitedly, "This is actual footage of the first-ever baby great white shark sighting! This is incredible!" He then starts rattling off a string of great white shark factoids before realizing he is doing it again.

He blinks and peers over to Phoebe. "I mean, you know, it's like...stuff." He picks up a coffee and takes a deep drink. "Thanks for the treats." His post-nerdout blush starts to fade from his cheeks.

Strix has posed:
Mary noticed Tim and Phoebe up on the roof when she got back from school, and has decided to come up and join them. Besides, Beast probably needs to do his business after she'd been gone for too long.

She's bundled up for the cold weather, wearing a white knit hat that has earflaps that are most *definitely* being worn down to help keep her ears warm, one of those poofy blue fur lined jackets that you see people in the Antarctic wear, fleece lined leggings underneath her overalls and, like Phoebe, tall fuzzy boots.

Beast is a Jack Russel Terrier, who is Very Brave and would fight anybody and anything he perceives as a threat. Fortunately most people, especially all the residents of the Roost, are Friends. He's dressed in a winter doggy sweater (which he loves), and little doggy booties (which he tolerates) to stave his pawsies from the cold.

When she gets to the rooftop, she wanders over to the patch of grass, and gives everybody an enthusiastic wave to catch their attention. <Hi!> she signs, and grins at Tim's excitement over the baby shark. <Do they have a video? I want to see!>

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Wait wait -- what? Are they sure it's not just another salmon shark? Did they test its genetics? Where was it found? Approximate age?!" Phoebe asks, excitement growing in her voice because, of course, it *is* incredible, and nerdy, and she likes biology. Just Marine isn't her speciality.

"Don't get yourself unworked up on my account. You deserve to be excited about stuff. All work, no play, amirite?" Phoebe asks as she hops to the roofside as well, eltting her boots dangle. She pauses to give a wave to Mary, and gives a wave to her.

"Hey Mary! Hey wee Beastie!" she greets the little Jack Russel. "Help yourself to a cocoa or a coffee and come have a seat?" she asks, and then looks to Tim.

"If they have video, and it isn't set to 'Baby Shark', I may just die."

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim gets a mock-scowl on his face at Mary's audacious question. "Of course there is a video, Mary," he answers with a warmth that belies the cold weather. Who else but a group of heroes would be hanging out on a winter rooftop when there is a perfectly warm building directly under them?

Unconsciously, Tim can't help but murmur 'doo doo doo doo doo doo' under his breath as he calls up the video of the drone footage and hands the phone to Mary.

"The video has been studied by marine biologists and the consensus is that it's a newborn great white sloughing off its embryonic layer," Tim responds to Phoebe in a tone that might lead one to (incorrectly) assume he is a Shark Expert. "So no DNA or anything like that. Hopefully that shark will grow up to be healthy, adult great white and contribute to the ecosystem like only sharks can." Cuz, you know, Tim's a shark expert now. *cough*

Strix has posed:
Once business is done, Beast runs over to Phoebe and Tim, demanding attention and pets. He doesn't jump or bark or anything, just nosing people, and giving them that look that dogs get when they want something.

Mary's eyes light up at the mention of cocoa. <Are there marshmallows?> she asks, and when she goes over to the table she finds that, yes, in fact there are marshmallows. She makes herself a mug and takes a pastry and joins Time and Phoebe over at the ledge of the building.

She leans over to watch the video of the baby shark and grins. <It's so small! Cute, too,> she signs. <I like sharks. I saw this video once where this guy took a shark in an aquarium and turned it over to pat its tummy. It was adorable!>

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Sometimes there's not videos because they're faaaaaaaaaa-kuh." Phoebe adds in, and she gives a bright grin. "But that one looks pretty good, if it is a fake. Look at the way the light's reflecting off the embryonic layer and the probable chemical interaction with the salt water. This is just really cool, nice find!" Phoebe gives a bright grin as she she turns her body, bringing one leg up over the ledge so that The BEast can get pets safely, running her fingers over the wee dog's head and asking 'Who's a good boy?'

"Yeah, they have zebra sharks in the aquarium, and lemon sharks can be possessive of their friendly human types." Phoebe shares with a bright grin.

Tim Drake has posed:
Perhaps it only just now occurs to Tim to consider the possibility that the video is fake. His initial burst of excitement was very kid-on-Christmas-morning, and it overrode his good sense. One can almost see him deflating a bit. "Well, um, yeah I guess it could be fake," he murmurs. "I mean, you know." He drinks some coffee.

You know who's not suspicious by nature? BEAST! Tim rolls onto his back on the cold, snowy roof. It's all good, he has thermal undies on beneath his Red Robin suit. "You're not fake, are you, Beast!"

Strix has posed:
Who's a good boy? Obviously Beast is a good boy, but it's nice to have that confirmed. He gives Phoebe a wag of the tail, but wait! Tim is on his back! Beast is quick to jump onto Tim's tummy to make sure he stays down for a good licking on the face to prove that he is, in fact, not fake.

Mary watches with obvious amusement. <You asked for it,> she signs at Tim. She takes a careful sip of her hot cocoa after blowing on it a bit, to make sure that she doesn't burn her tongue.

She looks at Phoebe curiously. <Why would somebody fake this?> she asks.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Well... the same way some people fake things on INstagram or facebook. Attention. Or funding, I guess. I mean, researches have been looking for the Great White Nursery for decades I think?" Phoebe pauses, and she wrinkles her nose a moment, then tilts her head and tries to crack her neck.

"It wuldn't be out of the ordinary I guess, but this is really cool news. Nice to see some good news." Phoebe relates quietly, and rubs the back of her neck.

Tim Drake has posed:
After getting more than enough doggy licks, Tim picks up Beast and gently sets him on the ground and then sits up cross-legged on the roof. He grabs his coffee and downs the last of it.

"I hope it's not fake," Tim says with a shrug as he nibbles on a cookie. "What an incredible discovery it would be." Tim flashes Phoebe a grin. "We should run it through the Bat Computer!"

He looks in the bundled-up Mary's direction. "So how have you been doing lately, Mary? Staying out of trouble?"

Strix has posed:
Mary purses her lips as she considers the various reasons why somebody would fake something like this. <I guess it takes all sorts of people,> she signs with a shrug. <I hope it's not fake, too.>

She gives Tim a grin. <Haven't killed anybody lately,> which, for Strix, is her version of 'staying out of trouble.' <Did a drug bust the other day. Got this cool knife!> She reaches into the pocket of her jacket and pulls out a pearl handled butterfly knife which she deftly snicker-snacks open. <Somebody paid a lot of money for this. Mine now.>

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"No, it looks like Tim's excitement was appropriate, including the 'doo doo do doos'" Phoebe states with a smile, motioning to the downed Timothy. "That is super exciting." she adds on in approval, the younger heroine leaning back on support of one hand. And she watches the snicker-snack of the butterfly blade.

"Nice recovery." she gives an upnod to Mary. "Keep on the 'no killing anyone' track. My boyfriend's doing the same... in Gotham, anyway." she adds softly, and then rubs the back of her head. "as far as I know."

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim nods approvingly and grins Mary's way. "Finders keepers, losers...get beat up and taken to jail!" When Phoebe offers encouragement to Mary for not killing anyone at her last encounter, Tim double thumbs up in Mary's direction. "Keep up the great work!"

Then his eyes narrow a bit and he glances to Phoebe with a mock-suspicious look. "As far as you know??" he asks. "No killing in my city," he adds as he pops into his mouth the second half of the cookie he's been nursing. Of course it's Bruce's city, but Bruce isn't here to claim it, is he? He sends a playful wink Phoebe's way.

Strix has posed:
Now that proper attention has been paid to Beast, he finds a warm spot on the roof to settle down on, head up and paying attention to the conversation. Especially to those who have food. Maybe, perhaps, somebody might drop some, which would mean that he would have to clean up after the clumsy people.

Mary gives returns Tim's thumbs up with a grin a hearty thumbs up of her own. She snicker-snacks the butterfly knife closed and returns it to her pocket. <I'll add it to my collection.>

<//Your// city?> she asks incredulously. <If anything it's //our// city. We do the work, too.> She takes a bite of her warm pastry and looks over at Beast's hopeful gaze. She sighs, and tears off a small bite of it and casually tosses it to her pet, who expertly snatches it out of the air.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"As far as I know. Robbie promised to only do his 'hunting' in New York City." she explains, and she wrinkles her nose a little bit. "He doesn't... ah... he's a little hazardous for health when he's in his mode." she purses her lips and stares out into space.

Ghost Riders are *terrifyingly* good at what they do, after all.

"And Mary's right." Phoebe states, and she signs 'City - All Of Ours'.

"Us three. The Outsiders. The rest of the Bat Family. There's a lot of city to cover, and it's nice to have the help."

Phoebe siiiighs, and then also leans back along the roof, though she lays on the ledge, DRAMATICALLY.

Tim Drake has posed:
Realizing that he swam out way past his depth, Tim immediately holds up both open palms in a gesture of surrender. "Okay, okay, I guess the shark video made me feel inappropriately cocky," he quickly confesses with a smile on his features. "It's /our/ city."

He then lets a pensive expression descend over his features. How like his adoptive father he looks in that moment as he stares out into the night thinking whatever it is he thinks in that head of his. "Seriously, though," Tim continues, his voice a bit thick suddenly. "This city would be shit without you guys. Without all of you."

Not knowing what to do next, he grabs another cookie and takes a bite. TWO cookies? Our boy's gonna get fat!

Strix has posed:
Mary sits with the other Outsiders in companionable silence, munching on her pastry and sipping her hot cocoa (with marshmallows!).

After a bit, she nudges Tim to get his attention. <I have to do an essay on a subject for school. Maybe when we're done here, you can talk to me about sharks?>
