Meeting the Family in Kentucky

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie has invited Izzy to join him down in Kentucky for a visit. He packed the truck up and plans on visiting. They could probably fly there quicker, but having a car handy could be handy getting around and seeing stuff.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Luckily for Sam, Izzy's a light traveler. She has an old Army duffel (belonged to her grandfather) that she tosses in the back of the truck and a backpack that she keeps up front with her for the trip. Sure, flying is quicker, but taking a few days to drive down is more fun! They can spell each other at the wheel, see some of America, and just enjoy the trip.

For most of the tip it's comfortable thermal shirts and jeans, winter boots. When they get close, however, she puts on the NICE jeans (the ones without stains or rips), a long-sleeved white top under a well-worn but nice flannel, and the good boots. First impressions are important!

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and smiles at her, as they come out of the truck stop near his home town. He looks at his watch and says "We might need to kill a few hours before Ma and the kids are home." He tells her. He does whistle softly at her with the change of clothes.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy flashes a quick grin at Sam and leans in to give him a quick kiss, "Hmmm, a few hours, huh? If this wasn't the first meeting, I'd have a different suggestion.. but how about you show me some of the places you went when you were younger? Hangouts or whatever." She runs a hand through her hair, purses up her lips, then fishes out her cowboy hat from the truck and sets it on her head. "There. Help keep my hair from getting messed up without putting it up."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head and says "We can ride by a few places, show ya where Ah went to school, maybe his the burger joint we use to hang out at. He offers her a hand up into the truck before heading around it "Ah was at the high school, but not very long between working and Xaviers.

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Sounds like a plan," Izzy smiles at him and takes the offered hand to step up into the truck, settling back in. "That's alright. Granddad about blew a gasket when I took a furlough from uni to come home and care for him when he got sick. He wanted my ass back in Colorado and finishing my degree." Chuckling, she shakes her head, "Funny thing is, if I had, I'd never have found the 'spex or been trained by the Shi'ar.. none of it. But mama used to say I had way too much of granddad in me. Never would've been content leading a normal life."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "Yea, it is sorta like Ma said about me and her. And Ah have it worse, Ah see the mountains and think home, but Ah also think whats on the other side of them. Wanting to see what is out there, just a bit farther out there than Ah expected.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Nodding, Isabel chuckles, "Yeah, guess I've always been like that. Always running around, exploring... looking up at the sky and stars, looking for what's out there." She glances into the bed of the truck, then over to Sam with a grin, "Think they'll like the presents? I know most of 'em are kinda generic kid things, but until I know them better I figured it would be best to stick to simple stuff."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit to this and says "Oh Ah am sure they will, and probably give me grief for not bringing them more stuff." He jokes a bit with her. As they ride along he points out different things of the city "That was where we would take deer and other larger game to get butchered, if it was a bit to big to do at home."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Grinning, she nudges him, "Can always say they're from the both of us. You're already introducing a girlfriend, don't need them raggin' ya aobut anything else." She glances out the window where he points and nods, "Did ya do a lot of hunting? I imagine it's a good way to keep extra food on the table."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "A decent amount, we would try to bag the limit during what ever season it was, helped keep meat on the table. If you have a gun and can hunt, it is a lot cheaper than going to the grocery store, and always handy for home protection too."

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Naw, I can understand that. We didn't have to hunt out of necessity, but granddad made sure mama and I knew how to use a shotgun. We might not have needed it, but other folks around sure did." Izzy smiles softly and gives a small nod. Then she's grinning, "Alright, fun question time... where did you take girls on dates?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie rubs his hand through his hair and says "Um, Ah didn't date anyone till Ah was up in westchester." He admits to her, blushing a bit perhaps.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy smiles across at him and leans over to nudge his shoulder with her own, "I get it, small town, didn't want to break any hearts or have any upset papa's knockin' on your door. Smart move." She winks at him. Sure, that's likely not the real reason, but hey, it lets him save face and Isabel doesn't judge.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie chuckles a bit and pulls in front of a dinner, and says "So, want to grab a snack or something and I can show ya one of our old hang outs?"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy smiles at him and gives a nod, "Sure! Sounds like fun." She hops out of the truck and closes it behind her before meeting him around the front end and taking his hand with a smile, "Am I gonna get curious looks from all the people that knew you before you moved to New York?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie hmms and says "Well maybe but aint sure, Ah do come in when Ah come visit ma, but Ah have been gone eight years, so not like most folks see me and hollar out Norm or something." He offers with a smile and leads her into the place, holding the door for her.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Laughing, she gives a nod, glancing up at him with a smile, "Small towns never forget. No matter how long I've been away, I still get recognized when I visit the faarm. I'm bettin' you'll be recognized." She slips into the diner in front of him, glancing around to get a feel for the place before drawing him over to a booth where they can sit. "So, you got sent up north pretty young, huh?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will nod a bit and says "Yea, Ah was 16 when Ah headed up here. About then a young woman comes over "Well, Ah don't believe Ah have seen you before, new to the area or passing through?" He asks with a smile and says "And what would ya like to drink?"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Nodding, she reaches over and gives his hand a squeeze, "Couldn't have been easy on you." Looking up as the woman approaches, Izzy chuckles, "Oh I'm a total tourist, but Sam here's a hometown boy. We're visiting." She glances over the drinks for a moment then smiles, "Iced tea please."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
The young woman looks at him and hmmms a bit studying Sam "You the eldest Guthrie boy? Ah can see a resemblance Jay Guthrie, and Jeb Guthrie." she says after a moment. Sam smiles and blushes just a bit and nods "Yes ma'am, that would be Sam." He smiles and says "And Ah would like an ice tea as well." He offers.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Chuckling, Izzy grins at Sam and winks at him. Looking back to the young woman, Izzy smiles, "We're coming in for a family visit." Glancing over the menu, she looks back to the girl, "Mind if we order? I think I know what I want. Sam, you need a minute?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie shakes his head a bit and says "Na, Ah get pretty much the same thing ever time, Ah come in." He says and the waitress looks to them and says "sure, hon, what would you like?" She asks Izzy.

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Bacon cheeseburger, french fries, and I'll try the apple pie with a scoop of vanilla." Isabel flashes a grin towards the waitress before looking back to Sam, "Wanna have some of my pie?" She chuckles before settling back to let him order.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smirks a bit at Isabel's innuendo and says "Well Ah do like pie." He looks over to the waitress and says "Ah'll have the same minus the pie and ice cream." He tells the waitress who smiles and says "No problem, Ah'll be back with your tea shortly."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Flashing an unrepentant grin at Sam, Isabel reaches across the table to take his hand, lacing her fingers through his. "So whatcha think... will your family approve of me?" She smiles at him, getting her teasing in now before they reach the family home and are surrounded by his siblings and mother.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles ack and gives her hand a squeeze "Oh I am pretty sure, they will." He offers her a smile. They might give him a bit of grief about her being rather different than the other girls he has brought home, but we will find that out later.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy grins and returns the squeeze of his hand before nodding, "Never really gotten this far in a relationship before. So I'm a little nervous, I guess. I like you, Sam. A lot. So I want this to work, and I want your family to like me, and I just... I want this all to work out." She flashes a quick half-grin at him and lifts a shrug, "I'm nervous. I haven't really ever had a big family, and for awhile now I haven't had any family. So just... you know.. bear with me?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles a bit back at her, and says "Ah will no worries, and if the little ones are getting to be a bit much give me a clue, and will try to distract them, Having a lot of folks the size of my family can be a bit much and Ah realize it. I like you a lot to Izzy,"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Shaking her head, she grins at him, "No, I'm looking forward to having them all around. Ever since I was a kid, it was just me, and ma, and granddad. Then around high school it was just me and granddad. I'm looking forward to the chaos." Squeezing his hand, she looks up as the waitress brings out their food, "Ohhhhhh, this looks so good."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles a bit and says "Yea, Ah don't think I have ever known it as quiet, even when Ah moved to New york there was pretty much at least 5 or 6 of us around and to be honest, Ah consider them all family.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Chuckling, she nods, "Well, if you ever want a little peace and quiet, you're always welcome to stay over at my place for a few days. Just you and me. Maybe a dog. Been thinking about getting a dog. Or a cat." Izzy leans onver and kisses him quickly, "I love that you treat them all like family. You're a good man, Sam Guthrie."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie kisses her back blushing a bit at the kiss. He nods a bit and says "What type of dog or cat ya thinking? Ah would suggest getting a dog walker or someone to check on the cat if ya get one. Just in case you get a quick call back to the job, Ah would come take care of them if Ah can but you know how some times people in our... jobs can be kept busy at times

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Mmmm, if I get a dog, I want it to be one of those breeds that get mislabeled as 'vicious'. So like.. a pitbull or somethin'. If I get a cat, I haven't really thought about breed. I mostly figured I would hit up the animal shelter and see if I could find an animal that I can connect with that needs a home." Izzy smiles at him and gives a nod, "Got that covered. There's a pet sitter slash dog walker in the building. All the pet owners in the building use her. But... if you're around and would be able to, I'd rather have you swing by and check on them. Not that you gotta go outta your way for it.. just.. if you're available."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "You know if Ah am around Ah will come by and check on them, with working in the city Ah should be able to stop by most days unless, Ah am off as well." He smiles as he eats a bit more "So, what ya want to see next?""

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Sounds good. And maybe you can come with me when I go to the shelter? Then they can start getting used to you right away. I don't want to end up with a pet that loves me and hate you." Isabel pauses to eat some of her own food, then smiles back at him, "Where else did y'all hang out here?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie hmms a bit and says "Well Ah spent a decent amount of time either at school or at the library. Ah was looking at a possible scholarship for playing baseball back then."

Isabel Kane has posed:
"You played baseball? What position?" Isabel eats a bit more of her food, watching him with a smile. "And if you didn't really hang out anywhere else... just show me your favorite places in town."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "I was a first baseman." He explains to her. It is the position he plays when the x-men play as well. "Ah can show ya a few place, and will take ya up by the mines, may not be one of my favorite places, but is a place that has effected me a lot.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy grins at him and gives a nod, "I pitched in high school and college. Not like.. pro-level, I didn't have a scholarship for it or anything... I just liked sports." She gives a nod, reaching over to squeeze his hand gently and offer a soft smile, "We only have to stay as long as you want."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit and says "Ah did not have to spend anywhere near as much time in there as most folks around here. It is where my powers first manifested." He tells her a bit "Ah was working when there was a cave in."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy gives a small nod and offers, "I can't say I know what that's like... no mines near where I grew up. But I get the idea. For me it was the farms. They were all over, and everyone worked them. It was expected that the kids would take over for the parents, so the pressure was there for a lot of kids to go into agraiculture." She smiles faintly, "For me... granddad encouraged me to chase my dreams. And mine were always in the stars. So.. guess I took him a little more literal than expected, but he was always so proud..."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods and says "Ma and Pa wanted me to chase mine too, but when Pa died, Ah had to step up and help, if was not for the Professor and his help, Ah would probably still be down there today.

Isabel Kane has posed:
"And that would be a shame, since I doubt we would've had a chance to meet then," Izzy smiles at him and offers a wink. "But, if there's ever anything I can do to help... I want to."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods and as he finishes his food, he will wipe his mouth and lean over to kiss her "Ah do appreciate it hon, honestly."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Returning the kiss, Isabel smiles at him, "I care about you, Sam. I want to see you and your family doing well." She nudges him lightly, "Now how about we head out and check out that place you were talking about before we start for the homestead?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over to her and nods. He leaves the money for the bill, and a decent tip. Standing offering her his hand to stand. He does says "Ah want to make a quick stop before we get there." He offers her.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Taking his hand, Izzy stands and gives a nod, smiling, "Something for your dad?" She listens! Either way, she squeezes his hand and heads out with him to the truck to hop into the passenger seat.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie shakes his head a bit and says "Well yes and no." He will tell her, and when they get to a little store he will pull over to pick up a few things "You want to come in? Or me just grab a few things and go?"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Nodding, Izzy offers, "I'll come grab something to drink." She dots a kiss to his cheek before hopping out of the truck to head in and go scan the drink case before selecting an Arnold Palmer tea/lemonade combo. SHe'll pay for hers separately while Sam is getting the things he needs.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will walk into the store, and picks up a couple of disposable coolers, and asks the owner for a couple of cases of water from the back as well as a few bags of ice. He will get himself a cheerwine to drink and thanks the owner of the store. Once back out of the truck he will load the water and ice into the coolers in the back of the truck before securing them in place.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy will help carry out the coolers and make sure they get filled with ice and the water can go into the cases to chill. She glances to Sam and lifts a brow, "For the miners?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit to her, and says "It aint much, but a nice cold water can be a god send at times." He tells her. He will climb back into the truck and once she is in, starts to head up to the mine yard.

Isabel Kane has posed:
Smiling, Izzy nods, "I'm not judging. I was going to ask if we should swing by whatever local coffee shop there is and pick up some coffee for them, too. I imagine it's hard work and the coffee can help them power through." She climbs back into the truck and settles back in.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "They usually have coffee at the base camps, and water to be honest, but if it is like it was when Ah worked there, the cooling system was usually crap." He admit, "Ah figured worse case they can keep it for a few days

Isabel Kane has posed:
"Fair. Coffee is easier to keep hot than water is to keep cool." Isabel smiles at him, reaching across to squeeze his shoulder. "It's a good thing you're doing. I'm just glad I get to be part of it. Come end of summer I'll have to take you out to Iowa, show you the farm at harvest time. I'm thinking maybe it might be a good idea to set up something where any leftover crops from the harvest that don't go to fill out contracts can be sent places like this, sold at cost. Nobody has to feel like they're getting charity, but it'll be a lot cheaper than the usual markets.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods and as he pulls up there is a guard house at the fence line. Sam will lean out the window, and as he does he heads "Is that you Sam Guthrie? Tom's boy? It has been a week of sundays since see you around, your not looking for work are you?"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Isabel leans forward to smile and wave at the guard, calling out, "Hi! We're just visiting, if that's okay. Brought some nice, cold water for the workers! Welcome to grab one yourself if you like!"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "Mr. Lewis, yes sir it is me." He nods to Isabel's words "Thought Ah would show Izzy here where the mine was and bring the guys some water." Mr Lewis looks over and says "This your girl friend Sam? Sam here ever tell you he saved my life? Not sure how he did it, but he saved us both from a cave in."

Isabel Kane has posed:
"That's right! I'm his girl!" Izzy grins towards Mr. Lewis before glancing back to Sam and lifting a brow at him, "He didn't tell me, no. He mentioned the cave-in though. I knew Sam was a hero, didn't know he started so early!" She slips an arm through one of Sam's giving a small squeeze.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie sighs softly, and Mr. Lewis smiles and says "Yes, Sam here is a good guy whose Pa was proud of him and would be even more proud of him as time went by. " Sam looks over and says "Thanks Mr. Lewis."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Izzy gives Sam's arm a light squeeze and looks to Mr. Lewis with a smile, "Well, it was really nice to meet you, Mr. Lewis, but we should probably get this water to the miners before the ice melts! I'm sure we'll see each other again!" She nudges Sam lightly with a smile.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and as Mr. Lewis lets them through. He will drive up towards the mines. ONce he has parked he will look over and says "Will stash the coolers next to the cart return

Isabel Kane has posed:
Isabel lifts both brows, "We're not going to just wait for them to come off shift and make sure they get the water?" She glances towards the mine, then back to Sam and murmurs, "If this is too painful for you, I can handle it. And we can take off whenever you want."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie shakes his head a bit and says "It aint that it is too painful, it is just they will be down there for a few more hours. Most times your down there 8 to 12 hours a day

Isabel Kane has posed:
Nodding, she smiles, "Then lets get the water set for them." Kissing his cheek, she slides out of the truck and moves to help Sam set the foam chests up next to the cart return. On the way back to the truck, she pulls him in for a quick kiss, smiling up at him, "That's just for being you, Sam Guthrie. Now. Lets go meet your family."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie hugs her gently in his arms for a moment keeping the kiss a bit longer, before heading back with her to the truck. As they head towards the house, he points out a few places to her along the way

Isabel Kane has posed:
Isabel is happy to linger for a moment more to savor the kiss, and being held. Then they're back int he truck and heading towards his childhood home, and she's enjoying getting to see the place he grew up along the way!

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will pull up to a stop light on the way, and a guy pulls up next to them, and seeing who it is, Sam will frown a bit and the guy looks over to the truck, and says something and starts to rev his car's engine

Isabel Kane has posed:
Isabel glances over at the people next to them, then back to Sam. Reaching over to take his hand, she smiles at him. "You got nothing to prove, Sam. Anyone that matters knows who you are, and what a good person you are." Winking at him, she leans forward and calls out to the man next to them, "Thanks for letting me know you're compensating for something!" Settling back, she chuckles and leans in against Sam briefly.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "Ah know could blow them away, but Ah know trying to bait me." as the light changes the car takes off "Thats Jimmy Cabot"

Isabel Kane has posed:
Smiling at him, Izzy nods, staying in close to Sam's side as they start off again. "Looks like he never really grew up. Still racing around town in a car to prove how 'cool' he is." Clucking her tongue, she shakes her head and murmurs, "I'm glad we're doing this."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "The Cabots and the Guthries have a long history our familys been fueding for generations

Isabel Kane has posed:
"That so? Huh... well, I'd say your family has the better of it. Look at you, a police officer in New York City, a superhero.. and in my humble opinion, the best boyfriend," Izzy winks at him and chuckles.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smirks a bit and leans over to kiss her "Thanks, but it has been problematic. They tried to kill ma, and the little ones a few years back, luckily some of the X-men were visiting and helped Ma. We lost a family friend but was worse for the cabots."

Isabel Kane has posed:
Returning the kiss, Izzy can only shake her head at the feuding families. "That's a shame. Well, we'll just have to make sure we come out this way more often.. help keep an eye on your mom and siblings." Giving his arm a light squeeze, she smiles, "And I'm sure some of the older ones will help too."
