Profile
Granddaughter of the World War II hero Captain Terror, Isabel Kane never wanted to be anything more than an astronomer -- until she found herself becoming the first human member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Now she fights for truth, justice, and the American way, even though underneath she's still the same small-town farm girl she's always been.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 1999: Born on her family's farm outside the rural town of Dike, IA; she will spend the next 18 years of her life there.
* 2008: Has her head filled with heroic tales of the Invaders by her grandfather Dan (retired World War 2-era costumed hero Captain Terror).
* 2013-2017: Taught self-defense by her grandfather.
* 2017: Leaves home to study astronomy at the University of Colorado.
* 2018: After her mother's death, returns home to help care for her ailing grandfather.
* 2019: Discovers a pair of Shi'ar Exospex while stargazing and puts them on, becoming a Smasher of the Imperial Guard. Travels off-world for training.
* 2020: Returns to Earth and travels to New York.
* 2021: Called by the Shi'ar for various briefings, updates, and missions; re-enrolls in college at ESU.
* 2022: Finishes her B.Sc. in Astronomy; continues to perform duties with the Shi'ar.
* 2023: Joins SHIELD as a field agent and liaison.

Personality
Confident:
It takes a good deal of self-possession to let an alien spacesuit take you halfway across the galaxy to join an interstellar paramilitary. Isabel is no fool, but she has faith in herself and her abilities.
Optimist:
She has faith in the fundamental decency of people, believes that they're basically good when they aren't afraid, and is confident that things will turn out right if she's willing to work hard enough to make it happen. She's not a Pollyanna -- when the odds are against her and things look grim, she's honest about that with herself and others -- but there's not a lot of give-up in her.
Selfless:
When her mother died, Isabel left college without complaint to come home and help look after the farm and her ailing grandfather. She'll do the right thing come Hell or high water, and you won't hear any grumbling out of her, either.
Small Town Girl:
Isabel grew up on a farm in a town that's at least an hour's drive away from being in the middle of nowhere. There's one pizza parlor. Her high school graduating class had under fifty people in it. While she tries not to look too much like a hick (especially in front of other heroes!), she still has a lot of 'Wow' moments.

Powers
Exospex - Base:
Isabel posseses a pair of advanced Shi'ar goggles that are the source of most of her powers. These "Exospex" are highly resistant to harm, and, if somehow damaged or destroyed, can repair or regrow themselves from pieces as small as a lens fragment. When worn, they provide the following powers:
* Superhuman Strength: The wearer of the goggles can lift about 2 tons.
* Superhuman Durability: The goggles provide a degree of added resilience allowing the wearer to tolerate high-speed flight without harm, resist damage from normal humans who are unarmed or have simple blunt weapons, and engage in combat with someone of similar superhuman strength (i.e., around 2 tons) on roughly even terms.
* Life Support: The wearer can survive in outer space and in any planetary environment that could reasonably support life (underwater, high pressure, high radiation, etc.)
* Information Database: The goggles provide access to a Shi'ar database containing information that would be accessible to an average military officer of the empire, including planetary systems, alien species, technology, news, and so forth. The database is not comprehensive (limited only to things known to the Shi'ar), is not necessarily accurate, and is always presented from a Shi'ar centric perspective -- things the empire considers unimportant will have little data available.
* Stargate Access: The goggles work as a key allowing free passage through Shi'ar stargates, which permit interstellar travel between systems in which the empire has enough interest to place a gate in.
* Uniform Creation: When worn, the Exospex garb their wearer in an appropriately tailored version of the Imperial Guard Smasher uniform; clothes they were previously wearing are shunted into extradimensional space and return when the goggles are removed. The wearer has some ability to change the uniform's appearance as long as it remains recognizable.
* Downloadable Powers: In addition to the above powers, the Exospex can grant their wearer a variety of "downloadable" powers, only one of which can be used at a time. Isabel can switch between available powers as desired; additional powers may become available for download in the future (with staff approval). See "Exospex - Downloadable" for details on available powers.
Exospex - Downloadable:
As detailed under "Exospex - Base", Isabel can use her goggles to access additional powers, so long as she employs only one at a time. Currently available powers include:
* Hyper-Strength: Isabel can enhance her strength to immense levels; she has been shown carrying (albeit with some strain) an entire commercial airliner, and has commensurate ability in throwing, breaking and other feats of strength once this power is downloaded.
* Super-Resistance: With this power active, she is almost invulnerable to most forms of physical and energy damage; only the strongest or most powerful attacks can significantly harm her. She is still vulnerable to mental or magical attacks.
* Exo-Speed: Downloading this power enables her to move, think, and react far faster than any normal human. She can catch bullets in mid-air, dodge or evade faster projectiles, complete hours-long tasks in seconds, or fly at near-light speed.
* Penta-Vision: The goggles can provide enhanced visual abilities, including telescopic, microscopic, and X-ray vision (the latter working in combination with either of the former two abilities, if desired).
* Flash Vision: The goggles can project high-powered energy beams powerful enough to destroy or at least harm all but the very toughest of materials (or beings).
Flight Patches:
These Shi'ar anti-gravity devices allow the wearer to fly, with a top speed of about 700 miles per hour; she can hover in place, and is equally capable in and outside of an atmosphere.
Skills
Astronomy:
She finally managed to finish her B.Sc. in Astronomy after returning to Earth, but more, she's traveled galaxies and has gotten far more expansive understanding of the stars, planets, and space than she otherwise could have.
Golden Age Heroes:
Years of listening to her grandfather's stories have made her surprisingly knowledgeable when it comes to costumed heroes and villains of the World War 2 era, and their exploits.
Self-Defense:
When she was still a teenager, she was taught to defend herself by her grandfather, a skilled hand-to-hand combatant with extensive wartime experience. She has since also received training by the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, and has continued her training even on Earth. While by no means an expert, she's proficient in a number of fighting styles and weapons, including Shi'ar weapons.
Self-Sufficient:
When you grow up on a farm you learn to do a lot of things, because you have to. So Isabel knows how to cook a meal, set a broken bone, get a pickup truck running, skin a deer, and a hundred other little things that rural life teaches you. The results will definitely not be fancy, and plenty of things are just plain beyond her ability, but she can usually get by when necessary.
Resources
Imperial Guard:
As a member of the Imperial Guard, Isabel has some limited ability to influence the workings of the Empire (arranging for minor criminals to be released into her custody, obtaining medical care, getting transport aboard Shi'ar vessels, etc.). The Empire is usually unwilling to intervene on Earth or allow its technology to be imported there (although they do pay her a salary, usually in gold or other precious metals). Any really significant commitment of Imperial resources will require roleplay and staff approval, and cannot simply be assumed.
SHIELD:
As an agent of SHIELD, she has access to their resources and databases to a limited degree. Anything requested or requisitioned still requires explanation, and information may only be given on a need-to-know basis.
Weaknesses
Imperial Guard:
As a member of the Guard, Isabel may from time to time be summoned for duty away from Earth, receive orders that put her in a difficult position vis-a-vis friends and teammates, or otherwise be subject to the same sort of plot complications a military officer might.
One At a Time:
The "downloadable" Smasher powers can only be used one at a time; she can't use Hyper-Strength and Penta-Vision at once, although she can quickly switch back and forth between powers. As a result, she is much less effective in situations that require her to keep one power constantly active.
Ordinary:
If deprived of her Exospex and the powers they provide, Isabel is a normal human with no supernatural abilities.
Power Reserve:
The Exospex have a limited amount of power, and while they regain it on their own with time, they will eventually stop functioning -- at a point appropriate to the story -- if Isabel uses them too profligately.
SHIELD:
As an agent of SHIELD, she's expected to perform duties when required, to say nothing of the new plethora of villains and ne'er-do-wells that will come after her now.
