Valentine's Day. While derided by some as nothing more than a Hallmark Holiday, it nonetheless was a day devoted to love and the people in it... it was the bane of many singles' existence, and a harbinger of half-price chocolates in a great many stores that catered to the event.
While Marie tries to do her best to show Mary her devotion on a daily basis, she viewed the day as a moment to celebrate one another. Which, while they could have cooked, and entertained one another... it felt like the kind fo day to let someone else handle that responsibility. It started with catching a show on the grand old way, followed by a meal at one of the city's more popular after-performance spots... which also happened to be just up the street from their building, so it was a double win!
Marie was dressed up for the occasion; she wore a flowing white dress... the kind that flared out when the wearer spins too quickly -- which she had quite a bit of fun demonstrating on a couple occasions -- and her hair was tied back in a more stylized version of a french braid, with a yellow ribbon woven in between the strands to decorate just a bit more. Dinner has just been served, and Marie's babbling helplessly about the show. "...oh! And then, and then! When she was ascending to the heavens... oh, my heart /sang/ Mary. It was so touching!"
Because the show they caught was 'CATS'... and yes, she cried like a baby during 'Memory'.

Mary wasn't really much for Valentine's Day, aside from using it for favors when she was working at the Coffee Bean to pick up peoples' shifts. She was always a little cynical about the notion of a marketing expert's idea of love being commercialized under late-stage capitalism.
But then she met Marie, and her attitudes decidedly changed a bit. For good reason.
She smiles across the table at Marie, wearing a luxurious purple and black dress to off-set the white of her partner, with her brown hair curly and flowing free. Her ribbon is a red one, to complement Marie's yellow, as she nods, "Yeah, there's nothing quite like Cats, Marie. I'm still amazed I was able to get tickets for that." Her head tilts as she looks over at Marie, sighing happily as she says, "I've always been partial to Mister Mistoffelees. Fitting, I suppose."

"I know! Fortune smiled greatly upon us that you were able to... some of the other musicians I worked with on the Count of Monte Cristo had mentioned just how difficult it was!" Marie gushes, her eyes bright and just... utterly besotted as she gazes upon her Mary. "...and oui! The original conjuring cat~"
Dainty fingers dip down to pluck a piece of cheese off of her plate and pop it into her mouth. Once she swallows, "I can see why he would be your favorite, oui." She can think of a /few/ different reasons for that, in fact. "If I had to choose one..." she trails off, letting her gaze turn skyward for a moment. "...I do not think I would be able to. I would worry too much about hurting the feelings of the others!" Not to mention Sharon's, if the feline mutant ever heard that Marie had picked a favorite cat which /wasn't/ Catseye.

Mary laughs softly, putting a slice of gruyere onto a cracker before popping it into her mouth. She smiles, much like the Cheshire Cat, then once her mouth is clear she says, "Well, I mean, I don't really have any feline folks to worry about offending, at least." Because she does know enough about Marie's friends to understand her hesitation.
Mary then tilts her head, "So hey, how about 'fictional' cats, because then you don't have to worry about offending people." She smiles, leaning in a bit with an impish expression, "And you can't count Freyja, our cat is decidedly not fictional after all."
- Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
That much is for sure! Now whether or not she's also heard from /Billy/ about Marie's cat-friend... well, that's a different story entirely!
"Still haaaaard...!" Marie whines cutely. "...because then you add in Tomas, and Felix, and..." Then, she pauses, as if struck by inspiration. "I have it!" she boasts proudly. "My favorite fictional cat.... is Monsieur Hobbes! A fierce tiger when he needs to be, and an adorable stuffed one when he requires stealth~"
She then bursts into a brand new fit of giggles, leaning in to meet Mary half-way for a quick peck. "...and of course I cannot count her! If I called our beautiful cat fictional, she would likely never sleep on my lap again!"
...and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a fate worse than a hundred deaths.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles and returns the kiss to Marie's cheek, "Worse than that, she'll do it, and then JUDGE you constantly for the rest of your days. Because cat." She laughs softly, "Hobbes is an excellent choice, and I'd be tempted to say that myself. Though, I can't pick the same one!" She hrms, and considers the question for herself.
Mary then says after a moment, "I've always been a little partial to Spot. From Star Trek. Data's cat." She smiles, "I mean, the cat-actor (cactor?) is real, but it's a character in a show so I think that counts."
- Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"Spot... spot.... oh! Oui!" Marie perks up when she puts two and two together. She'd never watched -- well -- any of the sci-fi epic that is Star Trek until after she started hanging out with Mary... and it was a good thing that the Philly girl educated the French one because she would've been even /more/ lost at that convention years ago without some knowledge! "Do not worry. I will not tell Freyja if you do not." she adds conspirationally, winking one of those big green eyes.
Then she pauses, and mock-gasps. "Unless... Freyja has spies within these very walls! We learned tonight about the secret lives of cats, after all. Why should we think ours would be any different?" she offers in as serious a tone as she can muster... before failing to hold character and just flashing a wide, ear to ear smile.
"...I love you so much, Mary."
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Well, Freyja has seen me watching a lot of Star Trek, I think she's cool with Spot. I know Day9 and I have occasionally had cute-off with our respective cats on stream." She chuckles, then winks at the gasp, "I think Freyja tolerates are insignificant rebellions as beneath her concern, honestly."
Then she sighs happily, "I love you Marie, more than anything." With that, the Philly girl leans in and kisses Marie firmly on the lips, not terribly concerned who would be watching. It's Valentine's Day, after all!
