The Ocean Can Be A Lovely Place
Date of Scene: 01 April 2024
Location: Atlantic Ocean
Synopsis: Burnout encounters a girl swimming with the dolphins far out at sea. He takes Kiana back to shore and gives her her first real taste of New York.
Cast of Characters: Bobby Lane, Kiana

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby is out there trying to push himself. Stop questioning himself. He's working on things that are in his control right now. The red and yellow uniform on him, Bobbby aka Burnout, is trying to push his own flying skills. This is how he is over the ocean. Sometimes it's neat to fly just above the water. Skim a hand across it, carefully. Everything like that. His powers are heat based. So, he streaks across the water, here, there. People may think he's a comet, or a firework, that seems uncontrolled, unbelievable, because it's not just going out nor is it completely dropping in the water. People with curiosities, or concerns, can approach him.

Kiana has posed:
The weather is beautiful today. A sunny sky, and the ocean has been warming. Only an occasional whitecap can be seen as waves come together and the seaform churns. Mostly the ocean is fairly quiet and calm.

Off on the horizon Bobby Lane can probably just see a container ship. And there was that sailboat that his path took him only about a mile past, with one person on deck who gaped and grabbed for binoculars before Burnout had jetted out of range.

Up ahead some dolphins jump out of the water, arcing through the air and splashing back into the water as they dart forward, seeming to race each other. There might be a dozen or more of them, it's tough to tell just from how many are jumping at any given time, at least until he gets all the way up to them.

When suddenly, something else leaps out of the water right beside one of the dolphins. He might only get a quick glimpse, but surely that was hair, and tanned skin. And a bikini? The woman is gone, back under the water almost as quickly as she emerged.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby smirks as he manages to -barely- catch the person going for the binoculars. Seeing the dolphins jump in, and out, of the water make him smile. "If I could only hold my ph-," and then there's a person shaped dolphin. He slows and just floats there. "Did I see that right? Or is this like a sea mirage?" Because Bobby thinks he saw a pretty woman in a bikini jumping like a dolphin.

Yes, a mutant with dolphin powers isn't out of the question. It can still shock someone. Even those with power can still get stunned by someone else's power set. And so, this is why he floats above the water, even "walks" just slowly going across. Eyes just skimming the water for dolphins and people shaped dolphins.

Kiana has posed:
The dolphins continue on, moving at a good clip, And soon enough, the girl comes streaking out of the water, arcing overtop the jumping dolphins even higher than they are going. There's a brief glimpse of an astonished look as her arc through the air puts Bobby Lane ahead of here he stands out as clearly as if the sun had dropped to just above the water.

She splashes back into the water with the dolphins, and then comes back up to the surface, head and shoulders out of the water. The dolphins keep going on, leaving the girl behind. "H-hello?" she says with both curiosity and a little bit of caution as she looks up at the brightly burning man. "I'm guessing the whole, being on fire thing, is intentional?" she asks.

She looks to be in her late teens. Very deeply tanned skin suggesting a dark complexion naturally. Hair that is more of a medium to light brown than the black one might expect of her otherwise Polynesian appearance.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby sees that astonished look. Maybe he's thinking it's not a Water Mirage. Still, he sees the person move higher, which continues the shock on his end. Before long the woman is back in the water. And so he just watches, waits. Then the woman peeks up and is greeting him.

"That or it's the coolest practical effect since ever," Bobby winks, and yes his eyes may glow with the heat. Yet, she can tell he winks. "And your power set? Not like a hydro jetpack or anything?" A smile pulls at his lips, "I always wondered about the day when I'd meet a watery, icey person. The classic trope," Bobby explains that his powers are more heat based. So, they're very opposite.

Kiana has posed:
The girl swims over nearer to Bobby. Though she just seems to glide through the water almost like she were able to fly, rather than kicking her feet or pumping her arms to propel herself. As Bobby gives the light-hearted answer, the girl's face lights up in a beautiful, sunny smile.

"I can control water," she says, just a little bashfully as if she's worried it might sound like showing off. A little plume of water splashes into the air and arcs over her, then two more, crisscrossing each other like a fountain.

"And, turn into water, too," she says. She starts to lift up out of the water, a geyser that lifts up from the water with her in it at the top. Though Bobby might notice that below the navel her body just seems to fade away, not existing beyond the water in the geyser that keeps flowing upwards to hold her up, the water arcing back to fall into the ocean again once it reaches the top.

"My name is Kiana. Are you one of the superheroes?" she asks, her eyes growing a little wide with excitement as she asks.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Seeing how Kiana glides through the water. It looks like something skimming the water, like a high powered jet-ski. It almost looks like flying. Then she makes that watery cloud. A smirk pulls at his lips. "Why be embarassed about what you can do? I mean it's a skill. Just a skill that the vast majority of people don't have."

"Are you a mermaid?" he asks of the body that vanishes a bit. Yet, he doesn't try pressing too hard on this one.

Then an incredibly hard question comes forward. "'Are you one of the superheroes?'"

Bobby's quiet for a long while. "I was and I'm remembering how to be. One step at a time," he smiles, it's not as big or wide, but it's a small one. It says a lot about his mentality. "Most on the West Coast side of things. Well, West coast," and then he finally looks around trying to figure out where home is. "The States." He struggles witht he direction.

Kiana has posed:
The teen lets out a soft, warm laugh, the kind that can sometimes bring a smile to someone else's face just to hear. "No, no, not a mermaid. Though a few sailors I've helped have said that," she says.

The spout of water turns her and a single leg doesn't so much lift out of the water, as forms from it. The water gathers in a leg-shape before it takes on flesh color. There's also a little silver anklet about her ankle. She's wearing a bikini colored a gradient from blue to aqua, the bottoms appearing, forming from the water with a bit more of her torso as she shows him she has feet. Or a foot. "I have feet just like you. I'm a mutant. I live on Genosha," she says. Which is thousands of miles away from here, in an entirely different ocean.

Her leg turns back into water and rejoins the plume that is shooting up to hold her aloft. Her eyes grow excited again. "Superheroes are amazing. The way that you help people. Did something happen to you that you had to stop?" she asks, voice gentle with empathy.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"So, partial credit," Bobby says about her not actually being a mermaid, but being believed to be one. It's not quite grasping at straws.

Then he sees how the water just changes. Looking on with curiousity, he sees how it works. Mutant? Well, that makes sense. "For a second I was going to call you a water avatar or something," water changing colors like that is entirely new. However, he will approve of those blue gradiants in the suit.

And another hard question barrels forward. "There are two types of teams. A team that forms like a group of like-minded people. My understanding, it's kinda like a job. And then there's the one that's like family. When it's the latter and people leave, it's hard to keep going," Bobby admits softly, honestly. That jovial nature to his face bleeds away.

Grabbing some resolve internally, "But I'm trying to push past that right now. I'll figure out the rest as I go," and he nods with quiet afirmation, as if agreeing with himself about that. Or at least approving himself.

Kiana has posed:
The girl's expression fills with sympathy. "I don't remember any of my family, so I know what it is like to have to keep going alone. But you can make new friends. Who can be kind of like family," she says, tone encouraging as if hoping Bobby Lane can find something like that for himself if he's hurting over his loss.

"What is your name?" she asks him. And then she holds up a hand towards him, feeling the heat. "Are you always so warm, or is it just when you're using your powers, or flying?" she asks him curiously. "Are you able to go swimming? I think I'd die if I couldn't go swimming," she says, glancing down at the water.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I'm learning," Bobby says honestly about the friends. He thinks there may be one, or two, filling that role. Nothing solid yet, but getting there.

"My name is Bobby," he extends the hand and focuses. Those flames stop lashing out. A moment later, it feels like holding a warm cup of coffee in a cup. A pleasant sensation on gold days, a not so welcome one on warm ones. It doesn't burn. It's just warm. Very warm.

Kiana has posed:
The girl's hesitance as Bobby extend his hand is noticeable. Though as the flames recede, she slowly reaches over as if feeling for too much heat before actually touching him. Once she does though, and she finds it's ok to touch him, she breaks out in a pretty smile and slips her hand into his, shaking it.

"It's nice to meet you Bobby. I have a lot of respect for the superheroes, saving people. Even if it means putting themselves in harm's way. I'm glad that I met you. I was just swimming around and playing with some dolphins. I might go to New York sometime and try going ashore and seeing the city. I went into Gotham with someone, and people attacked us in an alley. So I've been a little hesitant about exploring too much."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I live out in New York now. I'm still kinda new, if you ever want to play tourist, let me know." He waits for a moment and pauses, "Do you have a phone or e-mail?" he asks unsure how people from Genosha contact the rest of the world.

"For a lot of the heroes, it's not about the risk. It's about having the ability and not wanting to sit idly while it happens," he says honestly on that front. They have the ability to do it. "Anyone could be a hero. People don't need powers. Just guts, maybe a little stupidity confused as bravery, more guts and a dash of bravery. Actual bravery."

Kiana has posed:
Kiana's face lights up again. "There is a phone at the diner that they let me use. If it costs too much I pay them with money that Old Ned gives me for the pearls I find for him. He had a jewelry stand and makes the most beautiful things," she says, in a tone filled with such warmth that Bobby could probably assume this is one of those 'friends who become like family' that she mentioned.

"I'm not sure what email is, but yes, I could call you," she says with a quick nod of her head. "I have some money now to buy clothing to wear there," she says. "I was going to go into Hammer Bay to pick something out, though I'm not very sure what people wear in New York. I saw some people at the place with all the lights and the games along the shore, but it was dark so I couldn't make them out too well." Coney Island maybe?

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby nods a little bit then looks around. "Well, I don't have anything to write yours down with. How about this? Where's a place you always wanted to visit near a shoreline? If it's not too far I can meet you there in the future," he offers trying to pencil in a future meeting. This would allow him to come prepared with anything he needs to take down an e-mail, phone number, etc.

A nod comes from him, "We can meet there and I can help you pick out some outfits?" he offers just trying to help. And then he nods a little bit. "Coney Island I hear is okay," he has never been. "I'm still new to New York," he admits.

Kiana has posed:
The teen looks at Bobby Lane more closely. "Would it burn up if you did have something? Or can you have things on you that don't burn?" she asks in a tone of genuine curiosity as she looks him over.

She glances back towards shore. "I could take us there, right now. Over to the shore that is, where we could get something to write with?" Kiana looks at him again. "I can probably do it without getting you wet, though I could dry you off easily after even if I did. But I think you'd have to turn your flames off so I don't get burned," she says.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"It could. That's part of the problem," Bobby admits. There's a reason he doesn't have his phone on him right now. It would possibly burn up. His eyes look at her. "Well, I could fly or see how the powers of yorus work," and then he nods. It would be easy enough to get something. Even if he has to burn the info into a pice of wood. "That's your call if we go back now."

Kiana has posed:
Kiana tells him, "It is kind of tiring moving a lot of people, and the further I go. But here I can show you what it would be like if you want?" If he gives a nod or otherwise indicates so, the geyser of water holding her up in the air near him drops back down to water level.

The water around her starts to swirl in a spiral. And there's another spot about 30 feet away that the water is also spiraling. And then Kiana just sinks down into the spiraling water, and as soon as her head is gone, she rises out of the other spiral. The water quickly goes back to normal, and she lifts back into the air on a column of flowing water again nearer to Bobby. "You could just drop and I'll catch you and take you back. I can even go somewhere like a fountain or a swimming pool, if there is one near to where you want to go. It doesn't have to be the ocean," she says. "You just have to describe it pretty well?"

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I don't want you to tire yourself out," Bobby will get on it for a mlittle bit. He wants to get a taste, A second later he looks at her, "IF you're tired I can help you out a little bit?" Bobby offers. There's an idea going through his mind. Just something that could help her out. She may need to use her powers a little.

Kiana has posed:
"I should be ok if it's just us. Like moving thirty sailors from a sinking ship to a city a long distance away, that is what tires me out. I could move the two of us several times, all the way around the world, before it would start to fatigue me," Kiana says, giving Bobby a soft, shy smile.

"But what did you have in mind? I am very curious what all you can do," she says as she smiles up at the superhero with the flames making that aura about his body. The column of water brings her a little nearer to Bobby, but still far enough back that the heat isn't an issue.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I can lower the temp of my powers and carry you. It may be a little awkward," he says knowing that his powers aren't the best for traversing. However, he could do some action in a pinch. Right now, he's learning how to control the powers intreaction with others. Trying to think of it in less group combat, more group tactics. Something a little more defensive.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana's face lights up. "You can? If so, that would be amazing! I've never flown before!" she says exuberantly. "Just, you know, jumping out of the water and falling back into it." The pretty South Pacific island girl has a big smile on her face at the prospect not only of flying, but having it be without some big metal airplane around her like the planes she's seen heading towards the airport in Genosha, or the ones coming down for a landing in New York or Gotham when she was near there.

"Ok, should I do anything? Or you'll just... pick me up?" she asks, seeming to game to give it a try.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Well, it's not going to be the best flight," he warns and makes a mental note to push himself this front. Then Kiana is asking what she can do. "I need you to raise both hands out of the water.

Bobby focuses the flames dimming them in the hands and wrist. Reaching down, he waits for her. "Alright take my hands and hang on tight," Bobby looks at her waiting for Kiana to take them. Oh, it's going to be a strange flight. Again, more mental notes to adapt things.

Kiana has posed:
The young woman seems to trust Bobby Lane, as she reaches up and offers her hands to him. She's a slight thing so won't be a very heavy load to carry as people go. And should he lift her she lets the water fall away beneath her.

He might have a difficult time seeing it, but some of that water just flies up with her and reforms into her legs, as if her legs had become some of the water while she was elevated on the geyser. Her eyes are shining brightly with anticipation as she takes his hands!

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby's hands are warm again. Like holding a warm mug. And that's when he begins flying. Not going as fast as possible, but not "Falling with Style!" slow. The wind would go through her hair and around her.

"You're flying!" he says completely missing what is happening to her legs since Bobby's focused on keeping her upright, the flight and everything else like that. All of it has him distracted.

Kiana has posed:
Bobby's flying power draws a giggle of delight from Kiana. "This is wonderful," she says, wiggling her toes as they hang down beneath her. Up ahead the dolphins that she was swimming with are heading in the same direction they are, off towards shore.

"Hello!" she calls down to them. "Thank you for playing with me!" The dolphins, for their part, don't show any signs of understanding her or reacting to her words in the slightest. They just keep swimming on and playing with each other.

"So you live in New York? Is it exciting to live there? You said you just moved there, why did you decide on New York?" she asks, tone excited with the fact she's flying!

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby hears that and does not correct her. "I do. It's a city, but it goes more upward than outward. So, it's like being surrounded by a monoliths," Bobby says honestly. LA isn't too different, but it has more space in his opinion. "It can be exciting," Bobby says honestly. "What are you hoping it's like?" he asks honestly. Wondering what she thinks New York is like. So, he wants to get into her head.

Kiana has posed:
"I... I really don't know," Kiana calls up to him, the wind ruffling through her hair as Burnout flies them towards the distant coastline. "Hammer Bay is all new. Rebuilt in the last few years after the island was destroyed, they say. Gotham wasn't nearly as new. And the buildings, they were very different in style too. I know someone else in New York, a mutant who saved me when I washed up on the beach injured. He told me a little of it, but not a lot. There is really huge park he said that I might like to see. And there are all sorts of buildings with paintings and famous art. I've never seen art before. That I can remember," she says.

She looks up from her enjoyment of flying over the water, up to Bobby. "What do you like to do in New York? What should I see?"

Bobby Lane has posed:
"There's a huge park, yeah!" Although Bobby thought that was more in Jersey. still, it's something they can do together. "Well, how about this. When we land on a beach you can humor me with a few things," Bobby just litens to her talking about the city more. How she is unsure what to expect. Kind of like she saw a simple post card without really talking about it. An image, or something incredibly like it, that gives a good impression of it.

"I'm still adjusting, but it's not bad," Bobby admits he's warming up to the city. It's going to take a bit.

Kiana has posed:
"I do enjoy Genosha a lot. I found a little shack that they say some surfer must have lived in. There was even an old surfboard there, and I found another one," she tells Bobby, calling to be heard over the wind as they draw ever nearer to the coastline. "One wall is missing, but that wall looks out at the cove that it's on. And you can watch the sun set at night through it. And there's fruit and coconut trees growing all around. Plus plenty of fish in the coral reefs," she calls to him.

"But I want to see cities like this too. It all feels so new to me. A boy took me to Hammer Boy and we got... bicycles, they are called, and rode them around. It was very lovely. Hard to believe anyone would have destroyed it," she says, voice turning a little sad at the last part.

The coastline is near to sliding beneath them. A light house on a point where there are some rocks offshore. A marina further on along a little inlet. And a few nice stretches of sandy beach. Some occupied by beachgoers, others empty and isolated.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby will push them forward to a beach. Kiana may see the city getting bigger as they make it closer to shore. Like the man made towers somehow stretching rather than it being something like, "Objects are larger than they appear."

When they make it to the beach, he gives a nod to her. "There are bikes here, but they can be dangerous in the city. A lot of traffic. That means people could get hurt," he does point out. "There are places where youc an bicycle safely. Some places rely on it," Bobby explains al ittle furhter. Then he has an idea.

"What would be your perfect outfit on Genohsa. If you could wear anything you want, what would it be?" Bobby isn't sure if she can make clothes out of water or not.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana stares at the skyscrapers off in the distance, though she's seen them before, and indeed can see Hammer Bay in the distance if she gets outside of her sheltered cove, the sight of them still awes her a little.

She thinks for a moment or two. "I was wearing this when I washed upon the beach," she says, looking down at her bikini. "It's what I wear most of the time. I go in the water a lot," she says. "But I know it can get old here. I saved someone and brought them home to Gotham in winter and there was snow on the ground. I don't mind the cold in the water at all, even down really deep. But the wind on land chills me when it's cold."

She considers. "I don't really know too much about the clothes people wear. I saw lovely... dresses... .in shop windows. I think most people wore shorts and lighter shirts though. Things like that? Or longer pants if it's cold? I wore... sweatpants in Gotham. Oh and a nice soft sweatshirt."

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby sees that the bikini isn't part of her. That it is in fact clothing. This gives him pause. "Alright. Tell me some of your favorite colors," gears are franitcally turning in his head. He has some ideas, but she needs to address his questions first.

"And do you want dress, shorts or something else? Maybe everything?" he asks Kiana honestly. Those gears in his mind are racing now. Her questions are going to dictate some of his actions.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana crosses her arms, a hand moving to her chin in that posture people get when thinking. "I like blues, deep blues, or aqua blues like the tropical waters. And greens. And purples. Oh but reds and oranges and yellows like the sunset can be so beautiful too," she says, the teen having a brightness and warmth, a simplicity that could bring a smile when she's talking about things she likes like this.

One of her feet digs at the sandy beach, toes scrunching up sand between them. "I suppose to start with just something that would let me walk around and not be stared at," Kiana says. She hesitates, then looks down a little shyly as she says softly, "I did think the dresses were very beautiful." After this admission she adds rusefully, "But Old Ned said the really nice ones can be extremely expensive. And my shack probably isn't the best place for storing a nice dress, he said some of them, the fabric may react poorly to water. It can get a little wet inside, it leaks, when it rains. If I'm there I can just redirect the water away, but if I'm not..."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Wait here," Bobby focuses and starts to fly off. He'll come back a good twenty minutes later. Maybe a little closer to thirty. In his hands is a silver reflective surface. "Flame retardant," and then tucked into the surface is a bigger bag with a few things in it. "There may be a changing station on the beach. I got you a couple of outfits to get you started. So you're stared at. I mean you look great in the bikini, but if you walk into some places like that, you'll get looks. Not all of them will be good ones," he gives a soft smile. He's trying to get her used to culture shock.

Inside is a simple cornflower blue dress. It may be called fashionable yet "Country." Bobby is going for something light, airy and blue. That's the plan here. And undereath that is a pair of loose blue pants, and a black top along with matching cardigan like sweater. Cheap yet fashionable. Resting underneth everything is a pair of white sandals.

It's all there for Kiana to try on. Now, it's nothing high end. Bobby went to a thrift store and a Wally World after.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana gets excited as Bobby starts to pull the clothing out. "Oh, that's so beautiful!" she says as he shows her the blue summer dress. She reaches out towards it, but pausing as if to see if it's ok if she takes it. Assuming he indicates it is, she takes it and holds it up to herself as if imagining what it would look like on her.

The cardigan comes out and she ooos softly at the sight of it. Kiana reaches out, feeling how soft it is. "Oh, that is going to feel so good to wear. Especially if it's cold," she says.

It isn't particularly cold today, it being a nice day and a warming spell having come through the New York area. Kiana takes a step away, turning her back towards Bobby Lane as she holds the blue dress up, viewing it with the ocean as the backdrop. "I know an area that the water is just this color," she says.

Without any warning, she unties the strings of her bikini top and lets it drop to the sand. Then the bottoms, her back towards Bobby. Kiana pulls the dress over her head, working it down her body and getting it situated into place. She runs a hand over the fabric admiringly, and then turns back towards Bobby Lane. "How does it look?" she asks excitedly.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby nods as he gives her the clothing. "It's yours. Take it," Bobby encourages and then he smiles seeing her marvel at everything. The moment gives him a warm fuzzy feeling.

A moment later Kiana turns around and he thinks nothing of it. When he looks back the bathing suit is gone, he'll let out an audible noise. Something wordless like "Ahh!" before he quickly turns around. The head may peak because his brain is still reeling. Enough for him to know naked and Kiana go together pretty well. However, he will respect the privacy.

Bobby turns back around at the question and nods. "You look great!" he says honestly, genuinely.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana didn't seem to pick up any meaning from the brief exclamation from Bobby, too excited about the dress. "I hope this didn't cost you very much?" she says, her expression a beautiful mix of gratitude and warmth and happiness, but also concern. "I have money that I can give you for them. I'll bring it next time I come here from Genosha," she says.

She looks down at her dress, twirling about and smiling with delight as the hem twirls about her. She sees the sandals and brushes off her feet before slipping them on. "I didn't think they would make me feel so nice to wear," she says, looking down at the entire outfit.

Kiana moves over to Bobby Lane, and if he lets her she slips her arms around his shoulders to give him a tight hug. And a tiny, almost shy peck on his cheek. "Thank you for these," she tells him as she lets him go. "Do you want to go into the city now? Or, do you need to change clothes too?" she asks.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"It wasn't too much," normally. It's not exactly a lie. However, bobby is between jobs. So, it did make a big dent. Something Kiana didn't need to know about. "Don't worry about money," he says waving it off, despite temptation.

Seeing how she twirls about, the happiness plastered on her face and eaving through Kiana's expressions. All of that is what makes it worth it for Bobby.

"I would need to go back and get some clothes," Bobby's still making sure it's under control. So, he doesn't want to burn any of his things.

However, when Kiana goes to give him a hug and a peck on the cheek, he smiles. Nothing wide, just a nice long smile. Something to show he is warmed by it. "You're welcome. You would need to give me a little bit and I'll have my own clothes," Bobby will start to float up and head toward his place.

Kiana has posed:
"Sure, I'll try on the other things while you're gone!" she calls to him as Bobby Lane begins to fly off. Luckily no one else on the beach as she tries the pants and the cardigan on. She was right, the cardigan feels wonderful on her skin, she's never worn something so soft. The sweatshirt in Gotham, though comfy, just didn't compare.

When Bobby returns she'll be back in the sundress, and have the other clothes carefully folded and replaced in the bag. If he caught any glimpses of her folding, he'd see careful and meticulous she was in handling them, like treasured items. Which indeed they are.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby comes back, albeit a little slower. Why? Because completely coating his power may cause some wear to the clothes. So, he focises with his feet and hands. It's enough. He's wearing some pants, pulled up a bit to let the feet breathe, they're grey cargoes. And then he has a red hoodie with a layer or two beneath it. "I'm still learning a few things with the powers." He admits sheepishly. Honestly, it sounds weird.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana is walking along the beach down by the water's edge when Bobby returns, the shoes dangling from a hand. Spotting Bobby coming across the sand, her face lights up and she jogs across the beach over to meet him halfway.

"You look nice," she says as she looks him over, then her eyes lifting back to his face. "So did your powers only emerge recently?" the young woman asks him. Perhaps she notes the sheepish tone, for a soft and warm smile is sent his way, the kind that might help put someone at ease.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Thank you," she can actually see the blonde l ocks and his blue colored eyes. A smile on his face, "No. West Coast is warmer. So, I wore a lot less clothes. Less chances of burning anything. I could use my powers and not need to worry," he admits. Working in these colder temps is an adjustment. A smile pulls at his lips as he watches her. He gives hiw own warm smile back to her. "I know there's a balance, just trying to work it."

Kiana has posed:
Kiana gives a soft smile, reaching up to tuck some hair behind an ear that the sea breeze has blowing across her cheek. "I'm sure you'll find it," she tells him. She looks at him and then down at herself in the pretty blue sundress he bought her. "So, shall we go explore this city? I heard it was called the Big Apple. I'm guessing there must be a lot of apples grown in it?" she comments, lifting her eyes from Bobby to examine the skyline. "Maybe in the great big park I heard about?"

Overhead some of the seagulls drift on the wind above them. Hoping they might have food for them like some people do when they come to the beach. Though they appear out of luck for that. Kiana glances up at them just briefly, attention quickly back on Bobby. "Have you learned to find your way around the city very well already?" she asks, ready to fall into step beside him.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I'm sure I will, too," Bobby smiles brightly. His confidence is not lacking. "We shall explore the city, and yes, it is called 'The Big Apple.'" And then there's a headshake. "No. Apples. I think it dates back to the Jazz age. An apple was something about disporportionate. And this city was -always- massive," and then he signals about them. "It stands out. And there's a big park. I haven't seen apples, but I haven't looked hard enough," and then they're falling in step together.

"I have found myself flying around the city a bit. I learned it, mostly," he grins knowign it's not perfect, but it's doable. "Tell me things you always wanted to do in the city?"

Kiana has posed:
Kiana's gaze starts to be pulled to various things as they reach the sidewalk along the beach and begin walking along it towards the nearby road that leads into the city. A man who just parked puts some coins in a parking meter, Kiana's head tilting with a bit of curiosity as she watches.

Up ahead a couple are walking a dog, which makes her eyes light up a bit, but they cross the street before Bobby and Kiana get very near to them. Kiana does glance back once at the animal and the couple walking the other direction on the other side of the street.

Though her gaze can get pulled away rather easily, it is never for long as Bobby really is commanding a lot of that attention. "I suppose that's a pretty good way to learn your way around, with it being so big," she tells him. "I got lost in Hammer Bay, though at least I just had to find the ocean. I suppose the same thing here," she considers aloud.

The question about what she wanted to do in the city seems to make Kiana think. "I, I don't really know. I'm not really sure what the city is like, or what there is to do in it," she says, looking very thoughtful. Her eyes swing back to Bobby. "Why don't we do something that you like?"

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby has an idea and then he pulls out his phone. "TAP-TAP-TAP-TAP," his fingers go over the phone and he gives a nod. "Alright. I got an idea." Before too long an uber comes for them and he will open the door. "This is how a lot of people travel."

Bobby will get in the backseat with her. Then he will -slowly- put on his seatbelt and nod for Kiana to do the same.

"Yep. We're going there. She's new to the city," he says softly and gestures to Kiana.

The driver, a woman gives a simple understanding nod. "Got it. Gotta do the list."

"Yep," Bobby says, even though his driver's license bears a different state on it. He still acts like this place has been his home longer than it actually was.

And so the pair deal with New York traffic. However, Kiana can see it all. The trip to Central Park doesn't take too long.

Eventually the car drops and Bobby gets out and holds the door for Kiana.

Standing tall between all the skyscrapers, is a green oasis. People are going about, street performers are going, and many more beats. "Shall we take a walk?" Bobby offers knowing Kiana hasn't seen this before.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana gets settled in the car, and with Bobby's example she pulls the belt across herself and clicks it into the mechanism. Though with a bit of extra focus on doing it that most people don't give to the routine task.

"Hello, I'm Kiana," Kiana says to the driver, smiling and reaching forward to the woman to offer her hand. The driver shakes her hand with a wry smile and a shake of her head after. "Alright Kiana, welcome to New York," the woman says as the car pulls away.

During the drive, Kiana is peering all about. Looking out the windows. Leaning against the glass to peer up at something tall. They pass two men screaming at each other on the sidewalk that she watches until the car is well past.

Eventually they reach the destination that Bobby had in mind. She tries to climb out when Bobby opens the door, only to be restrained by the seat belt. "Oh, right," she says, moving her dress where it's covering the locking mechanism. She pokes at it for a second or two before finding the button and opening it. Kiana flashes a quick smile at Bobby as if proud of this accomplishment, and then climbs out of the car.

She looks around at everything, doing a full 360 degree turn to do so. "Yes, please," she says when her eyes make it back to Bobby. He's put such an excited smile on her face. She moves over to walk close at his side as she takes in all the sights!

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby is not surprised by the openness of Kiana. How she introduces herself. It's why Bobby says it's her first time. He knows she would do something like that. So, he's almost vindicated.

There's the stare at people fighting. How she's stunned and proud of working the automatic unlock. All of it there.

"See?" Bobby gestures aroudn to the place. All of the greenerya round them. Music dances in the air. "The Park's famous because it's one of the few places like this in the city," he says looking at Kiana as they walk together.

"You can see a lot of different things here," he moves intot he greenery making sure she catches up. People are walking dogs, there's a few street venders. Music continues in the distance from street performers. "A little bit of everything here," Bobby grins.

Kiana has posed:
As Bobby changes directions, Kiana is busy peering over at the musicians. And then looks up and has that moment of panic when she doesn't find Bobby beside her. But it's just a brief moment before she spots him and quickens her step over to rejoin his side. "Do you have to pay money to listen to their music?" she asks. "Is this what a concert is like?" she asks, gesturing over to to the musicians.

As they walk along through the green stretch, one of the vendors calls over at them. "Dirty water dogs. Got your Nathan's dirty water dogs here. You look like an onions and mustard man," he says, the latter part towards Bobby. "Got seltzer too, plain or flavored. Lady looks like she could use a drink," he says in a very stereotyped New York accent, trying to make a sale.

Kiana turns towards Bobby curiously. "Dirty water dogs?" she asks, and then glances over at a golden retriever someone is walking. Apparently making a misconnection there.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Hot dogs are made in water. Some people will season the water. The water looks dirty when this happens. So, the name took shape," Bobby just explains it all for her. "It's not dirty, just a name to describe a certain taste and way they make them," and then he looks at her. "No, but tips are encouraged. It's free if you don't want to pay or can't," and then he will flag down the hot dog man getting two hot dogs. Then he hands once to Kiana so she can see how they look.

Bobby will put a lot of ketchup on his and some onions. Kiana gets her's plain. "Things taste differently. Teh resauce is like a sweet tomato, or ketchup, as it's called," he explains unsure if she had that on Genosha.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana looks over at Bobby's hot dog after he's explained the New York slang to her, and bought them the food. She looks at his hot dog with the ketchup and onions. "Can I taste it?" she asks the hot dog vendor as she motions to the ketchup.

One of his eyebrows goes up and he puts a dab on her finger. She tastes it and smiles. "I'll have some of that, please," she adds.

The man asks her, "Onions?" Kiana peers at the diced onions and leans forward to smell them. "Oh. No. I don't think so," she says quickly of the sharp smell, which makes the guy grin.

She takes the hotdog then, watching Bobby take a bite whenever he does, as if confirming how to go about eating it. She takes a bite from the end and her eyes light up a bit. "It is good," she tells him when she's finished swallowing. She moves away with Bobby as more people come up to the stand, slipping her hand over through the crook of his arm if he allows. "Do you eat this a lot?" she asks, taking another bite. Swallowing before she adds, "What are your favorite foods? And do you make your food yourself, or buy it like this a lot?" she asks.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby just watches Kiana take on things like someone that feels very much like a fish out of water. Before he can explain anything further, Kiana's asking a lot of questions. It's not a bad things, Bboby just hopes he doesn't catch anyone off guard. His gaze rests on her.

Before long the pair are moving together. "I like these, but don't eat them too often. I can't replicate them at home." Honestly, he's not much of a good cook. However, he will answer the question, "I try to make some things. I like a good pizza and a lot of things, but I'm not that great of a cook. Maybe one day," he says says honestly. "What do you eat?" Bobby asks curiously.

Kiana has posed:
And then Kiana says the words that might change things. "Pizza? What is that like?"

She doesn't seem to realize the potential importance of those words though as she breaks into a little smile. "I catch a lot of fish, some crab and other edible things from the ocean," she tells him. "Though the shack I found and live in, has a lot of plants growing around it that grow fruit. There are coconut trees. Passion fruit. Mangos and a few other pleasing things. They are very sweet most of them," she says. "I don't enjoy chewing the coconut, but the water from them can be refreshing."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Well, pizza is hard to explain if you haven't had similar things. All of it is like a point of reference," Bobby pauses and looks about. His gaze goes back. "We can pick up a slice. I can show you have pizza is. Some people put little fishes on pizza," he knows that Kiana is one of seven people that may actually like anchioves. "A lot of people like it, but everyone has different ways of eating it."

Kiana has posed:
Kiana flashes a soft smile over to Bobby. "Is it as good as hotdogs are? Because I really did enjoy that. But I could stand to eat a little more if you aren't full yet," she confirms. Ready to fall into step with Bobby if he starts to lead her anywhere.

She looks over to the musicians who are filling the park with music. Danceable enough music that a few people are out on the open plaza where they are performing dancing in front of them. "How difficult is it to create music like that?" she asks him curiously, craning her neck a little bit to try to keep the performers in view as people pass, occasionally blocking her view.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby pauses looking at the musicians. "Depends on who you ask. To those trained, it's hard. There's a rhythm to it, much like the tide and waves to the ocean. The notes filling the air like the water does the sea. There's a method to it all," and then he looks at her. "There are others that say the music is in your heart and you just go on instinct. Results can vary and music is very subjective," he tries to make that into something simple and digestable. Bobby is passionate about music, so he understands the many thoughts on it.

Kiana has posed:
As Bobby pauses, so does Kiana, staying close by his side. She watches the guitarist, strumming away, and someone with some bongo drums and other percussion instruments keeping the beat going. Another person is switching instruments as needed once or twice over the course of the song.

"Do you play music?" she asks, her attention on the musicians fully up until then, when she finally turns back and shines those soft brown eyes of hers over at Bobby, giving him her attention again more fully. "There were these drums they were playing on the beach one time, in Hammer Bay. It had a very... interesting sound. I don't know how to describe it, except that it was a happy sound?" she says, stumbling to find words to express the music.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby watches people working on the bongos, how others strum at guitars, the bucket drummer that bangs in the distance. Bobby's eyes don't really focus on one thing. He just takes in the sounds.

The eyes focus forward to the guitarist, "Yes. I do. I play that," and he points to the guitarist. "That's called a guitar. It's string instrument, it can make a lot of sounds and styles."

Looking back to Kiana he nods, "Probably steel drums. They're pretty popular in beach areas. They're kind of deemed island instruments, they sound happy and a little exotic," and he smiles at her. "They're these circles that make different notes if you hit them at different spots.

Kiana has posed:
"And they are kind of shiny like metal?" she asks Bobby after the explanation. "These caught the light on all these different surfaces inside, they weren't smooth," she says, probably mostly confirming they were steel drums.

She stops for a moment, watching the guitarist and picking out the sounds that the instrument is making from which ones match the motions of his strumming hand and his fingers on the fretboard. "I like that a lot. It's a good choice," she says warmly to Bobby. "Where did you learn to play it?"

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Yes. They. I always thought the inside was smooth," Bobby says. He's quick to add, "I never played one." He wants to take a look at one up close now, but that's for another time.

"There are different kinds of guitars. Different ways you can play them," Bobby begins to explain it in a rudamentary way. His eyes drift back to Kiana. "I got a guitar at home. I try to play it daily," he does enjoy doing that. It's a passion to him.

Kiana has posed:
"Daily?" Kiana repeats. She gives him a soft, pretty smile, complete with puppy dog eyes. Though she's never seen a puppy dog so to her they are probably pretty porpoise eyes or something like that. "I don't suppose I could talk you into playing it for me, could I?" she asks him.

"Over a piece of pizza. Which I will pay you back for once I get home and get some money and am back here next," she says, expression soft with gratitude as she beams the smile to Bobby.
