Though a member of the undersea-dwelling race known as the Blue, Kiana has been left without memories of her past by an ordeal that ended up with her washing ashore on the beaches of Genosha. The kind locals who restored her to health assumed Kiana is a mutant like them. And this has led Kiana to believe the same, even as she begins to try to make heads or tails of the world above, and tries to uncover her past.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2005: Kiana's parents are members of the Blue, a race of ocean-dwelling aquatic humanoids. In the wake of Killian's 2004 assassination of the Blue's ruling family (including the mother of Aspen Matthews), they flee the spreading conflict to a quiet part of the South Pacific to have their daughter, Kiana.

* 2005-2020: Kiana is largely raised alone by her parents. She gets only gimpses of Blue society, and sometimes watches humans on ships or ashore.

* 2021: A merchant ship sinks in a typhoon off Samoa. Kiana ferries four sailors to shore, drawing the attention of the Polynesian goddess of wind and safe journeys, Hine-Tu-Whenu. Hearing Kiana's empathy for shipwrecked humans, Hine-Tu-Whenu bestows Kiana with a blessed trinket to help her assist more humans in distress at sea.

* 2023: Kiana washes up on the beaches of Genosha, seriously wounded. She recovers thanks to a Genoshan's healing powers. But the girl cannot remember anything of her past or what happened to her. The Genoshans believe her to be a mutant, which Kiana accepts even though she is unfamiliar with human society. She begins searching for her past.

Personality

Blue:
If Kiana were a shorebound she'd be considered green, a conservationist and lover of nature and the environment. As she's an ocean dweller, perhaps blue is the better term. She is most at home among the coral reefs and ocean life. While she doesn't begrudge people fishing for a living, commercial fisheries are likely to rub her wrong. And the destruction of pollution and spills might be enough to infuriate her at times.

Bold:
While usually softspoken in demeanor, Kiana definitely has a bold side to her. She isn't lacking in courage, though her mother might have called it lacking in common sense. She might be prone to biting off more than she can chew at times, but she rarely lets herself be held back from a situation by fear.

Kind-Hearted:
Though she was mostly raised in isolation, Kiana's parents instilled her with a strong sense of empathy for others. She is at heart a good person who finds joy in the happiness of others. Seeing others suffering it is difficult for her to not get involved and try to make things better if she can.

Teens Be Teens:
Whether raised in the ocean or on land, teenagers are out to live life large and enjoy themselves. Kiana is no different there. Surfing, racing dolphins, riding whales, evading sharks. All of it is exciting to Kiana. Human endeavors like skateboarding and sky diving are likely to appeal to her should she encounter them. She travels widely and has a sense of curiosity that can get her into trouble.

Powers

Liquid Manipulation:
Like all Blue, Kiana can manipulate any water-based liquid, including the water of her own body (whether in water body form or not), able to purify it, move it, compress it into a form of ice, and other such actions. Note that this includes blood, her own and that of others. Other Blue have killed by causing one's blood to exit the body explosively.

As Kiana learns more of her heritage and unlocks the secrets in her own mind, she may be able to cause tsunamis, cause torrential rain to suddenly fall, stop enormous waves, and otherwise be, in effect, a goddess of water. Currently, however, this power is only hinted at in minor abilities like being able to calm rough seas in a small area, or generate waves, or shield people in a small radius from rainfall not merely by redirection but by preventing actual rainfall.

Underwater Breathing:
As a Blue, Kiana can breathe underwater as well as speak in it as if it were air. She is able to handle the crushing pressures of the deepest parts of the ocean, and is not bothered by their near-freezing temperatures. Though she much prefers warmer waters.

Water Attacks:
Aside from the usual attacks that someone able to manipulate water can make, there are two extra attacks that Kiana can perform that require more detailing.

The first of these is the high speed geyser. She can cause up to three geysers to spring up from any nearby water source of sufficient size to batter, envelope, and otherwise harm a target. The force of these is considerable, and when creatively combined with water compression (making needles of an ice form) can be devastating, slashing targets into ribbons.

The second of these is a "living grenade" attack in which she takes her water form and then explodes it outward with the force of a sizable bomb. Because it is her actual body, complete with the control this implies, she can do this without harming friends and allies, even when mixed together in a group. This attack takes a lot out of her, however, and she will be out of commission a while as she tries to reassemble.

Water Body:
Kiana can convert parts of her body up to and including the whole into water. The water form can retain coherence, can be split up, and then reassemble, e.g. being used to enter a drain and reform in a tank the drain empties into.

Skills

Ocean Knowledge:
The oceans are Kiana's home. She's as familiar with most aspects of the oceans as shorebound are knowledgeable about land. Kiana has traveled widely and can navigate around the oceans, especially the Pacific. She's familiar with coral reefs and many forms of aquatic flora and fauna.

While aware of the Atlanteans, the Blue prefer isolation. Kiana has only viewed Atlanteans fleetingly from a distance, the same as her own people.

Resources

Farming the Sea:
Since washing ashore on Genosha, Kiana has discovered a need for financial resources when interacting with those humans and mutants around her. An abundant number of oyster-bearing clams have become her main source of money when needed. She trades the pearls for whatever else she requires, though those on the other end of the trades often make off like bandits given her lack of understanding of the value placed on such items. Sunken ships are also another source of income in a pinch, though it could take some time to find something of value within one.

Saviour's Trinket:
Kiana wears a small seashell trinket as an anklet. It was given to her by Hine-Tu-Whenu, the Polynesian goddess of wind and safe journeys by sea. Kiana had drawn the attention of the goddess by saving sailors whose ship had sunk during a typhoon off Samoa.

The magic trinket is blessed to assist Kiana in helping those in peril at sea. It has the following abilities:

* The wearer may get impressions of those needing such help, at sea or in large bodies of water.

* The trinket allows the wearer to travel long distances by sinking and disappearing into a body of water, then rising up from another elsewhere. Around a half dozen people can be taken along on the journey. A pond, fountain, or even a large hot tub is enough water to suffice, but bathtubs or mud puddles are too small to work. Such a trip is tiring and excessive use will exhaust Kiana.

* The wearer can change weather in the local area. Storms can be calmed or called. Fog, precipitation, wind and temperatures can be modified. There is no fine control. Lightning from a thunderstorm will fall as randomly as a natural storm. The changes can take minutes to a half hour depending on the scale of the change. If Kiana isn't careful, her mood may sometimes bleed over into the weather.

Weaknesses

Dehydration:
As a submarine humanoid, Kiana needs water at a level that no human could understand. Removal from a supply of water (like, say, in the middle of a desert without water rations) will have a debilitating effect on her FAR more rapidly than it would have on a human. Similarly her powers rely on the presence of water. Such environments will cripple her powers.

Enemy Mine:
Kiana washed ashore on the beaches of Genosha with signs of having been through an ordeal. Whatever happened to her, she's lost her memory of her past, doesn't know that she's of the Blue. This also means that she doesn't know who or what might have left her so battered. Whatever it was, it's still out there, still a threat. And even before losing her memory, she had never learned the realities of the internal fighting among the Blue that had caused her parents to flee. Encountering her own people could have dangers and pitfalls she isn't prepared for.

Fish Out of Water:
While not actually a fish, Kiana has very little knowledge of the human world beyond having observed people along the shoreline and on ships on rare occasions. She doesn't understand pop culture, cuisine, stop lights or many other things the first time she encounters them.
