|
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
It's mail day over at the Mansion! Various packages, orders, and other things have been brought in and are being delivered. It's always a somewhat haphazard thing as students get things, teachers try to make sure the studetns haven't ordered anything that will end with catastrophic results, and teenagers are still teenagers with what they want to order.
Surprisingly, of all people, Laura's gotten a package.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney doesn't even LIVE here right now. She's just trying to find Logan. But he's off doing Logan things. She sighs, and goes to get some food on the way out when... package.
She takes it,s niffs it, looks it over. Who is sending her something HERE?"
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Whatever is in the box, it's rather thoroughly sealed. She can't actually smell what's within at all. The box is rather heavy - likely whatever's in it has been made out of some material, likely metal, so she can't just smell wtihin it. The package is addressed over in a rather flat style of printing. Again, no scent or identifying marks to pickup from it.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney thinks this is weird. But being a trained combatant, she takes it OUTSIDE. Doesn't help she's already in a really mopey mood and all that, so she's especially on edge. Perhaps for good reason. She goes out into a nearby wooded area, where she recently went hunting with Logan, sits on a rock, and carefully opens the box...
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The box is made of heavy metal. Thick, durable. Something like lead, but sealed against any sort of scent coming out. Upon it has been scratched using heavy pressure. In a sense of someone having taken a nail to a chalkboard and simply pressed down to it to crush their way through like writing in mud.
It simply reads 'To Twenty-Three'
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney tosses the cardboard aside. The metal box, labeled like that, makes her concerned. Not many people would call her that.
She holds her breath, readies herself, and starts getting the thing fully open.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Inside, there's a letter. Written with beautifully stenciled calligraphy. Someone has taken their time to do something in a quite fanciful way. But as the letter opens, something also rattles around in the box that might make Laura's heart break.
It's a finger. With a ribbon wrapped around it like a bow. A finger that the scent is immediately identifiable. Family.
Megan.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney opens the box, pulls out the envelope, opens it, and drops it instantly. It floats to the ground. She leans forward, picks up the finger, and just stares. Unsure of what to do, she slips it BACK into the envelop. Then the letter, she pulls it out and reads with controlled rage.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The letter reads in elegant cursive 'Subject Twenty-Three. We have your family. You hid them rather poorly.' The scent hits her is one that's familiar and perhaps even more terrifying than any other on a personal level of torture.
Doctor Zandar Rice. He was dead. She had killed him herself.
More things are in the box. The front pages of the fake identities that Laura had set Megan and Kinney up to get them safe. One of Megan's small friendship bracelets. With dried blood on it. A small flip phone.
The letter, continuing. 'We require fresh subjects for treatment. Their genetics are suitable.'
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney tenses. Her claws then come out. not because she's going to fight, but simply because she needs to feel something in order to cope with this, and painful blades are her go-to for that. She thinks about slicing the letter to ribbons. But she knows that the GOOD scientists on her side might beable to do something with it."
Inhaling, regulating herself like a weapon, she folds the letter, puts it back with the 'evidence,' slips it into her back pocket.
That just leaves the phone. She opens it up, and considers it.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The phone goes to beep-beep-beep. Incoming call. The letter had continued on. 'You will exchange yourself or they will be put through the program.' Surrender herself and be experimented upon again to make more weapons.. Or leave her only family left to be vivisected by the man who had made her as little more than a preprogrammed killer.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney only has one thing she can do here. She has no plan yet. No inkling of one. But there's only one possible course of action here. She could throw the phone away and do ntohing, but then she's stuck with no way of tracking the girls. So, she calls.
Her message will be simple. "Tell me where." She doesn't say where WHAT. Just where. Her only purpose in the call is to find out where she needs to be, with whomever she may be able to bring.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The voice that comes through is familiar. "Hey Toots!" Kimura. "We'll get to you soon, don't worry! Keep this on you at all times, and we'll give you a time and place. And I gotta say.." THe background is filled with screams.
MEGAN'S screams.
"Your cuz squeals like a little piggy. It's kinda sad, really."
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney closes the phone. She'll keep it on her, and won't tear it in half like an epsiode of Breaking Bad. But she doesn't have to keep listening. The phone goes into her other back jeans pocket, as she starts walking, and then running. Back to the mansion. She can't find Logan. She can't find anyone she wants to talk to right now. But she sees Drake, and points. "Want to use your powers for good, in a lethally dangerous situation? Come on."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The phone shuts down over the screaming as Laura goes to put it over in her jeans pocket. IT's a burner phone, and whatever method Kimura's going to use to contact her will be bounced through so many different redirects that trying to track her head of time will be impossible. That's how Laura was trained, after all. Kimura obviously won't have Megan and Sarah at th exchange, and will be expecting Laura to have rienofrcements with her. So Kimura will have some backup of her own.
- Drake Riley has posed:
Drake Riley was absolutely minding his beeswax, just exiting the college building and making his way across the lawn when he spots a somewhat familiar figure and some packaging surrounding her feet. With a smile, he raises his hand and starts to greet the lil murder-monkey, but-
Oh. She seems to be in a mood. Something's happened.
The smile fades, and his hand lowers to his side. "I'm gonna need a /little/ more to go on, but," he's already approaching her, "I'll help, yeah."
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney takes a deep breath. She's back to walking, but doing so aggressively. Leading Drake to her motorcycle. "Hop on." she says. It's not a big bike but it'll hold two if they hold on.
"My half-sisters are being held hostage and tortured by the people who made the program that groomed and tortured me into being a killing machine. They want me. The only option is to save them by force. I'm emotionally compromised and could use backup. You can say no. but hop on if it's a yes."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
She's got to presume that Kimura is keeping track of her somehow and knows where she is. So stealth will probably be mostly useless. Kimura's picked the place ahead of time - or might throw somewhere random together at the last minute to mess with her. That was how tactics went - presume your enemy has superior knowledge and intel and that will limit your options.
At least, tha'ts how the twisted Project trained her.
- Drake Riley has posed:
Such seems to be Laura's typical state, Drake muses internally. Always on the move. But his pace hastens a little to catch up with her and her motorcycle. ..She had a motorcycle. Maybe she /is/ Logan's kid after all.
He stands beside it, staring at her for a moment with a tight frown. The more information he gets, the more serious it sounds. He glances towards the mansion, impulse telling him he should probably inform the ones who actually have a team for this kind of thing, but- time doesn't sound like it's on their side.
His gaze turns back to her.
Without a word, he slings a leg over the saddle behind Laura, hands setting to her waist. It'll suffice for an answer.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney reves, and rides. "Thank you Drake." she clearly means that. And she rides with speed. A speed you can ride if you're a regenerator. Fortunately her reflexes are good enough that it'd be nearly impossible for her to ride into a wreck!
"They're going to lure us into a trap." It just gets better and better. They're going to want to contain me and capture me. Either immobilize me or capture me. Be on guard. If they use my trigger scent on me, I may try to harm you. Don't be afraid to use your stunny punch on me to try to knock me out, if it comes to that."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Will Drake be an ally? An asset? But he's still backup. And something that Kimura won't be expecting. She'd be set for someone like Logan or Gabby to be coming with Laura. Not someone like Drake. WEll, hopefully at least. As the pair ride and rev, the phone starts beeping again, signifying a call coming. or a text.
It's a flip phone, and the screen will immediately give a location nearby. A big, empty field. No room for stealth or sneaking.
- Drake Riley has posed:
Drake Riley was trying to be a little modest about his hand placement on her waist; you know, be gentlemanly about it. He's never been on a motorcycle like this before, he doesn't know what the protocol is! But as soon as she starts ripping down the street at speeds he's quite sure aren't legal, that modesty goes out the window. Drake's arms are fully wrapped around the girl's midsection, his chest pressed behind her shoulders, and eyes wide enough to engulf the majority of his facial real-estate.
It's not cool. It's not suave. But at least he's keeping his concern quietly to himself. He's screaming, rest assured. But it's on the inside. Maybe that'll count for some points.
Of course, Laura's probably able to easily feel his heart rapidly pounding against her back, giving away the game.
"Y-you're welcome!," he finally shouts over the wind shearing against his face. "They probably don't know the first thing about me, right?! That's probably an advantage! It- aghk!" He sputters a second, then, "Sorry! I thought I swallowed a bug!"
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney would have sensed his physiological reactions even if he hadn't. She'd have smelled his fear. "You're powerful. You trained in martial arts before?"
But she keeps on riding until the call hits. She doesn't slow down, but pulls the phone out and checks. "Alright we have the spot. Empty field. Stay alert. These people are led by a trained killer who will torture you for sport."
When they get to the spot by the side of the road near theclearing. She stops the bike, getsures for Drake to dismount, the rolls the bike behind a tree, out of sight. "Keep your distance, head up, march into that clearing over there. And if you have anything to do to ready your powers, do it now."
For her part, the claws come out, and she starts to march out.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Standing out in the open field is a woman that might not be recognizable to Drake, but is to Laura. It's Kimura. The psycho sadist who trained her and tortured her as soon as she was old enough to walk. Along with the other horrifying things that the Weapon Plus project put her through.
"Twenty Three! Hey, sweet cheeks. I thought I told you to come alone, but I actually didn't. I see you brought a friend. And here I was thinking that it would be the hairy midget. Good, that smell is impossible to get out of." Kimura, if Drake had read those files or been briefed, could alter her density with casual ease. To something heavy enough to take strikes from adamantium weapons or to phase through things like Kitty.
- Drake Riley has posed:
"Yep!"
Drake hesitates a little before tilting his head, taking as much of a peek towards Laura's face as much as he can from this insane angle.
"Partly by your dad!"
He'd wanted to keep that a surprise for later, but a part of him suspects it'll make her feel a bit better about things. Regardless, he gradually begins to ease into the situation, the tension still very obvious in his frame. But that's when they seem to have reached their destination.
The world is still slowing down by the time he's told to dismount, but he manages to do so with little more than an awkward stumble. Her instruction gets a simple nod, and he starts out, head on a swivel.
What he lacks in X-Men training, he makes up for in life experience. The obvious person standing in place is noted, but he's scanning the surroundings - possible exit routes, possible advantageous angles people would have on them, ideal surveillance and ambush positions, all of it taken into account.
Finally, his bright green eyes land on Kimura. His hand lifts. "Yo."
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney does briefly snap point to Drake when he reveals he's met Logan, and was TRAINED by him? She nods approvingly. "Watch her," he then tells Drake, before looking to Kimura and giving the adversary her attention.
"Where are they? What do you really hope to do here? You built me too well. You can't actually beat me. And you know it. So what's the point?"
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Kimura would grin, "Well, tha'ts the thing. There's an awful lot that's been invested in you, Twenty Three. Someone wants to make all their money back. But why start from the beginning when there's a finished product right here? Why waste going for something so flawed as whatever you call a sister. So, here's the deal. You come wtih me and we let your family go. You make a fuss now I get to setup a video cam to show you them being held having their limbs ripped off one by one to see if the healing factor expriments worked." She would grin sadistically.
"You put up more of a fuss, and I let the professional come and handle you. Normally he does merc work but when we told hi what it was for he said he'd do it for free."
A shadow is cast over the area as a massive, brute of a man stalks forwards. A man that's right out of nightmares.
"Hey frail." A hiss of twisted, sadistic glee.
Victor Creed. Aka Sabretooth. The man that had haunted Logan for over a century.
- Drake Riley has posed:
Drake Riley is utterly out of the loop on the rogues gallery, and he knows it. This must all seem familiar to Laura, or at least have recognizable faces. But all he can do is take what he's been told, and apply instincts. And potentially a liberal application of his powers.
When Creed makes his appearance, Drake can tell how massive the man is even from the distance he's standing. "Fee fi fo fum, what ugly tree did /you/ fall from?," he mutters under his breath.
A brief sidelong glance is cast to Laura, jet black eyebrow raised. This is her rodeo. He doesn't know enough to make assertions. She makes the call here.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney folds her arms. Claws still out, but she folds her arms, and taps her foot. Very impatiently. "You know. You needed better teachers. I was taught to be practical. You make everything... drama."
Watching Creed, glancing at Drake, then watching Kimura again. "I want proof they're alive, and well, before I agree to anything."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
There's a grin from Kimura, "Sure, since you asked." She goes to hold out her hand, and a hologram appears of Megan. The girl is bound up in metal chains. Parts of her flesh have been melted away by acid. Skin peeled away in other parts with liquid pouring over them that contains salt. Unable to speak.
For having screamed so much her throat was raw.
- Drake Riley has posed:
Drake Riley makes no move yet. Nothing he could take as a signal to act. And then, a hologram is presented.
Drake leans forward, trying to stay reserved but unable to suppress a horrified look from crossing his features. But no sound escapes him. That little display has put him on edge, wanting to act, but without a clear idea of where or how exactly to do so.
Another meaningful look is shot to Laura.
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney snorts. "Not good enough, Kimura." Nostrils flare, standing up straight. "For all I know you pre-recorded that and killed her alreayd, and she was the last one you had leaving you so deperate, you came crawling to me with your fake show of strength."
"You have to give me a chance. You think you can get your way keeping complete control of the situation. But you know you have to give me a fighting chance. So tell me where they are. And then I meet you there, and then we end this."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Kimura goes to tap at her hand, "WEll, since you asked.." She would chirp, "Hey, girlie girl! Your little cousin says you're already dead!" Megan's head in the hologram turns, eyes unfocused.
"Laura.. Don't. Please.."
Kimura just smiles. "I can have more fingers sent if that helps. And I trained you so well. I'm proud. I didn't think you still had it in you. You're a good wepaon. I was afraid you'd done soft. Instead you're being properly paranoid. I'm so, so proud that it stuck with you."
- Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney takes a deep breath. "Alright. You hear what she said? Don't. You just tipped your hand, Kimura. If I walked away right now, YOU HEAR THAT MEGAN?, If I walked away right now, she would take comfort knowing she saved me. So here's what we're going to do."
It turns out she's stolen more than just a bike from the X-Men. She also stole a tracker. Pulling it out of her FRONT pocket, she breaks it in half. SWALLOWING one half, and tossing the other half to Drake. "This guy here is going to take that back to our friends, who is going to follow us, as you take me to Megan, Kimura. You get a head start, you get the home terrain advantage, but I get a fair chance. Non-negotabile. Agreed, or do I walk away and you return to your boss in shame and dishonor?"
Her hands shake, the glinting claws quivering slightly. She IS emotionally compromised.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
There's a smile, "Oh, good then. I suppose we're allowed some fun. In that case.." She goes to reach forwards towards Laura, her palm going up and over. "See ya later!" She goes to move to grab at Laura's hand, at connection her other hand oging up to twist and press on a button. There's a flash!
And the two vanish as the personal teleporter she had on her takes the two away.
