Cast of Characters: Mary Bromfield, Sarah Rainmaker, Rahne Sinclair

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary Bromfield is taking a bit of a break this Tuesday evening, swinging by the infamous Coffee of DOOM on the way home from work at the Planet. She stifles a yawn, taking in the ambiance and looking rather impressed. Granted, this isn't exactly the Coffee Bean or other coffee shops she's worked at... and she's not really a barista anymore. Still, there's a bit of professional curiosity about it, as she looks over the menu, hrmmming a bit before deciding on some cinnamon orange tea, the combination sounding interesting enough to her as she glances around. Not that she'd expect to see anyone she recognizes here, but stranger things have happened...

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
In the alley next door, a figure touches down lightly, a rush of wind surrounding her briefly before it dissappates. Sarah takes a moment to look around to make sure no one is nearby, before she steps out, walking out of the alley as she adjusts her messenger bag as she makes her way towards the front door of the coffee shop, pushing the door open as she glances around. Mary is noted...but she's only seen her as Thunderbolt thus far, so she doesn't immediately recognize her, heading up to join the line in front of the counter behind her.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
A rather petite young woman is already seated at a table as Mary entered, reading was apparently is one of those free satire newspapers that seem to be so popular. The article in question is some farcical fantasy of how Senator Kelly is actually an alien from Venus, because of his lack of dirt. The article is only perused lightly. It seems that the woman is passing time.

While the former barista may not recognize the redhead sitting immediately, she may recognize the voice when Rahne speaks. As one of the staff askes her if she needs anything more, the Scottish brogue that emerges from her may be rather familiar...of a certain meeting at the local ren faire. It is a polite response, saying she is just fine, as she picks up her drink (Chai tea latte, from the looks) and offers a wan smile.

    Then, back to reading...

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary flashes a friendly smile over at Sarah, "Oh, hey there!" She doesn't really look much like Thunderbolt, after all... being shorter and far less Amazonian in appearance. She tilts her head towards Sarah, "Personally, I went for the cinnamon orange tea, because that sounded just like an interesting combination of flavors."

Then she blinks as she notices the Brogue, not too unusual to hear in New York City, but her eyes track the source and she smiles brightly, "Oh, Rahne!" She waves over towards the Scottish girl, moving through the coffeeshop to stand over by her table, "Haven't seen you since the RenFair, how've you been?"

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
"Oh, ah...hi." Sarah says, slightly surprised at the greeting but smiling at Mary all the same. "I'm usually boring, I just get the spiced chai. Never really got a huge taste for coffee." she admits. She glances over as Mary addresses the redhead nearby, turning her head to regard Rahne curiously as the two talk.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Oh, someone is calling her name? No...that can't be. But, as Mary actually snakes over towards her table, Rahne has to accept the fact. Someone actually knows her. Which, out in the middle of the city is unusual for her.

Still, Rahne takes it in stride. A hand runs through the short red hair as a smile is offered to Mary. "'ello....Mary." It took a little bit for Rahne to remember....but remember she does. And when she does, the smile widens. "Oh, aye! The Ren Faire. Ah was surprised ye remembered me, considerin' mah appearance that day." Considering...she was in werewolf form. "You an' Marie were adorable. How are you?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary winces a little at the mention of Marie, "Um, /I'm/ okay... haven't seen Marie in a while." She grins a little, though, at the mention of the appearance, "Yeah, that was pretty amazing cosplay you had going on, I still think that was absolutely epic. I can't believe you pulled that off." She tilts her head, "Was just getting some tea on the way home from work, mind if I join you? Or did you want some privacy?"

She glances back curiously over at Sarah, giving her a wave, "Spiced chai? That's not bad, I can make a pretty wicked chai when I need to." Her lips quirk, "Benefits of being a barista for a while."

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
"Oh? Here to check on the competition, or are you no longer one?" the tall Apache says, hesitating as she turns from giving her order. "...do you mind if I join you? Looks like there aren't a lot of seats open." she asks, smiling slightly. "I promise I don't take up too much space."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Cosplay....is a term that Rahne doesn't seem to familiar with, as the expression shifts from a smile to a confused lilt. Still...the small twitch at the mention of Marie is not missed. Still...Rahne doesn't want to cause any undue stress, so she doesn't mention anything. However....when asked to be joined. Well...the Scot has nothing against that. With a slight grin, she nods to a chair. "Feel free tae join. Ah wasn't doing anything excitin' anyways."

The glance back to Sarah catches Rahne...and those green eyes shift to regard. Then, for Sarah, a hand lifts up to indicate another chair should she want it.

The comment of space does bring a laugh to Rahne's lips. "Aye, Ah don't take up much room right now either. Got plenty of room 'ere." Then...back to Mary. "Well, was a little worried letting the wolf out. Some people don't take kindly tae it and, honestly, was a bit nervous walkin' in. But...there was so many wee ones who just loved it. Made me feel good." Then, with a lopsided grin, Rahne slides the paper away as she regards Mary. "Must of left a good impression..."

Back to Sarah next. "Ah'm guessin' ye know Mary? Ah'm Rahne."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins at Sarah, then ohs at Rahne, "Um, well, no, we just met now. Ah, yes, that's it." Well, not /really/, but she's still getting a bit used to secret identity things, as she tilts her head, "Let the wolf out? You mean, that wasn't a costume?" She sounds a little confused, but also a little... impressed?

With that, she looks over at Sarah, "But yeah, I'm Mary. No longer a barista, since I started interning as a reporter for the Daily Planet. Trying to get my journalism degree this way."

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah's brow raises fractionally but she nods in agreement with Mary. "Just met, but no reason not to be friendly. Can't meet people if you don't actually make an effort to, you know, meet them." The young woman has a faint Southwestern accent to her voice that's audible the more she talks. She pauses to get her chai and Mary's drink as well if it's ready to carry them over to the table, setting them down as she pulls out a seat, sliding it around to sit at the end of the table so she's between the two women, crossing her legs as she does and sliding her messenger bag off so it's hanging on the back of her seat where she can lean back against the strap to keep it from getting grabbed. "Sarah. Not really employed per se, I mostly work at a couple nonprofit things volunteering." She smiles at Rahne. Pleased to meet you both."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
"We sharin' job info? Then...Ah'm not really workin' at an official job or anything, either. Well, not unless ye count helpin' out at the Xavier Institute." Rahne drops her eyes to the table as she mentions that. She knows that to some, it isn't hard to tie out Xavier's school to mutantkind. It is also an answer of sorts for Mary in regards to the wolf. Though, Rahne does offer a small nod, with a slight shrug, to clarify. "Hmm....yeah. That wasn't a costume. Well...the furry bits, that is."

The voice...was quiet. Withdrawn. Hardly the same as that corsetted wolf at the faire. It is hard to believe it might have been the same person. But...the admission, plus the Xavier connection leads to one thing. Rahne is a mutant...and shy about it, it seems

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary blinks, then exclaims softly, "Wow, that's /super/ cool!" She gives Rahne a bright smile, "No, really... I should've guessed but, well, I wasn't sure how much of a secret you kept that." With that, she extends her hand and, if Rahne doesn't shy away, lightly covers the redhead's hand with hers, "Seriously, that's really awesome."

She glances over at Sarah, "I'm not a mutant, but I have... things I can do. And I'm definitely sympathetic to mutants. Dating one for a while helped with that, even if it didn't quite work out." She looks a bit sad at that, then sighs and sips her tea.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah tilts her head. "You can turn into a wolfgirl?" she says curiously, not seeming upset by the idea, more interested, then pops the lid off her chai, idly running her fingers over it as the liquid starts to swirl, then curls up out of the cup briefly, brushing her fingertips before it sinks back down into it as she keeps her other hand blocking it from the rest of the room. "I don't know if I am, but...I can do things like this." the native girl notes, smiling at the pair, then frowns at Mary. "...the Marie she mentioned? Sorry to hear that." she says sympathetically.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
The conversation is a little unsettling for Rahne. But....since people are sharing, Rahne shares, too. "Not....just a wolf girl." A moment of silence...then Rahne adds another comment, almost too quiet to hear. "Full wolf..." Yeah...there are some issues sitting there, it seems.

As Mary's hand encapsulates Rahne's, the head slowly lifts up. The green eyes focus on the hand for the moment...then over to Mary. "I....thank you." The hand remains in place, though there is a momentary twitch of the fingers beneath. Rahne almost pulled her hand away...almost...but is keeping it in place. Seemingly via force of will.

Then, with a somewhat weak grin, the hand does pull away....to pick up the chai latte to drink. "Well...it's complicated. But, basically...Ah was told that it was bad. Werewolf an' all, ye know. But, it was supposed tae be bad. And...I like the wolf. So...it's complicated."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary nods, "Well, you should like her, she's part of you. That's not a bad thing, unless you /do/ bad things with it. Which I don't think you'd do, Rahne." She smiles warmly over at the Scottish girl, pulling her hand back as well.

Then she looks over at Sarah, "Yeah, Marie was... pretty special. Didn't even think I felt about women like that, until I met her and... well." She coughs a bit, then blushes a little, sipping her tea, "It was nice while it lasted though."

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
"That is a primarily European thing. Loup garou and all that. It'd be skinwalkers with my people." Sarah says thoughfully. "But that's a very different thing, someone who uses dark magics to steal someone's form or an animal's form. Being touched by an animal spirit? That's not a bad thing. Wolf is a smart spirit. Strong and brave, loyal to family." Her eyes twinkle a bit. "Depending how much you believe in such things. I admit I'm a bit on the fence...but I did learn the stories when I was younger."

Brown eyes glance to Mary. "...oh?" she says slowly. "I...see. Uh, that doesn't bother me either, so you know. People should love who they want, as well as all parties are consenting. And it's not some weird twisted power differential that makes it unbalanced."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
There is a blink, as Rahne follows the conversation from Mary to Sarah, then back. "Hmm...aye. Ah think so, too. Ah mean, at least, Ah wanna think that." A light sigh escapes from the Scott, but it is brief...and a true smile does grace her features. "I was taught otherwise...but I cannae believe that a being that professes of love would be so judgemental of that love."
