Continued from Cutscene 7/146

Billy Batson sat up against a tree. He wasn't making the afternoon classes but they were only two and one was a study period. After being thrown against a metal sign he had a bruised forehead (covered by a do-rag ) and a raccoon eye (covered my dark glasses). He was pretty good at hiding injuries, foster homes being what they were -except for Frank and Rosa. You let people know the folks whacked you and you might get worse before CPS showed up, or the sibs you left behind. The sun was warm and his head still hurt so he closed his eyes and started to doze and dreamt of a pretty Brazilian girl dancing on the beach and a feisty ginger singing. Both gone.

He was never smiling again.

A shadow fell over him. If it's that Juggernaut guy, Imma let him kill me. That's how much I hurt. He opened his eyes...

... and smiled.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary had flown in to a dark spot, and transformed back to normal Mary. No doubt some concerns had risen about the clear sky lightning strikes that were becoming more common in the area. Then there was climate change to blame that on. It wasn't hard to find Billy, like it was some people. There was the connection of their shared power enhancement, and maybe just a little bit more because of a family connection that didn't need blood to be real.

The brown haired young woman could sense before she could see he was in pain, something she didn't always give herself credit for was her empathy. "Hi Billy." She said as she looked at the smile, and the relief. She wished she were here just for him, but she needed him. There was a tinge of guilt. "You don't look so good." Her voice truly concerned, and it made a good cover, perhaps more effective than his for her own self doubt crisis. "Are you alright..?" What he was doing right now, was what she was having trouble with, but fix her little brother first.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson waves off the worries. She's his sister and she's not that much older than him, not his mom. She has her own stuff to deal with and he was independent a long time. The smile is genuine though. He pats the grass next to him. When she does he gives her a heartfelt hug and she can hear a little sigh of relief before he whispers, "I was helping my friend Fire fend off Pan, Pan the god. You can't fight a gods and walk away without some damage. Also he caught me as Billy. But I checked out ok. I just have a doozy of a headache... and a black eye. What are you doing her? Are you all right?" He breaks the hug to look at her. She might be older and have a few inches on him and a few pounds, but she was still his sister. Also with one word, Mary would suddenly /have/ a big brother.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary returned the hug, in old jeans, sitting on the ground was easy and after the welcome embrace and squeeze if gently. She shook her head though as she leaned back against the tree. "How do you do.. that, Billy? He heals faster. He hurts less.. Why do you take his knocks?" There was something faint in the more dramatic division of the words, so much more separate from talking to Billy. A softer sigh. "Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you have to, you know? Choose your battles."

There is a hesitation, and he can see there is more to say in the pause. "Really though.. How do you do it, Billy? It is getting harder for me. Both to be Her, and to not be Her. I try not to be Her, more.. But I have to try so much harder. She did my work so I could get the time to come up here, today.." A second more, "And it sucks."

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson listens and takes his time before speaking. Hep uts his arm around his sister's shoulder, ignoring a whistle from a classmate -after shooting them the bird. He mouths 'sister' to them and gets a' sorry'.

"Ah you asked why I let Pan beat on me? He tied an evil spell to my lightning. He caused my friend Fire to revert to a ki... my age. When I finally got hold of him, I changed to Billy to let her and... her boyfriend, Green Lantern finish him. I got decked."

"How do I do it? It's survival, Mary. The way I grew up, if you stood still -you died. So I learned to ignore stuff like this. That's my thing, I don't quit while I'm breathing. You're... different." He was going to say a girl. good save. "You think things out better. You're creative... and you know how to talk to people. This is important too. Me... I sort of was dealing with the other me lately. Pan wanted to push my buttons making Fire a teenager and making Shazam her guardian. I got to see how stupid I looked at times hanging with an adult woman. I'm going to let her do her thing but... seeing her at around my age... gods. I'm wondering -Ami I Billy pretending he's Shazam or Shazam pretending he's Billy. I mean... a girl my age will think Shazam is a creep and girls Shazam's age think he's a dork. I get it though." He hugs her again.

"You... you're great whichever you are. You're stronger than you think. If you need a break, take one."

Mary Bromfield has posed:

Mary leans back to the arm, and shifts a little, she doesn't even bother with the boy making the comment. If being seen with an older girl helped her brother's rep, well, she didn't even live around her so it cost her nothing. "It wasn't like life was great for me.. Before. I just was with the better ones longer. I am sure you will have plenty of times with girl.. And hey, you are cute now. And him, well, for some girls like their men a bit dorky and sincere as opposed to cocky and self-absorbed. Girls your age are mostly stupid.. A lot of them get better after high school, our idea of a good man changes from a quarterback, to someone that cares. It is a long hard road, but I think you will end up on top, Billy. Just let the girls grow into it."

Another long breath after she offers that older sister perspective. "My.. I'm worried Billy. I.. I'll never be better than her at anything. I never would expect to throw cars around, or fly.. But: I don't think I'll be as pretty as she is, or as smart, ever. You add to, Captain Sparkle Fingers. You see thing, outside the Wisdom of Solomon, you .. give something, make it better. I don't think I do, not now.. But, too soon, I'll be her age. And She will just be better.. At everything."

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson shelves his concerns. Helping Mary comes first. He lets her lean on him. He looks around to make sure no one is watching.

"First of all... you're very pretty. Second... there usually isn't a reason to throw cars around. Thirdly, she's you. You're not in competition with her. In fact the only reason she exists is because you were chosen... by me. And dang, you were fighting the Seven Deadlies a minute after saying the word. You saved me. Don't forget that. I couldn't even give you the power if you weren't worthy. And you're a Titan... I'm barely tolerated after some of my screw ups. You make her a hero. Anyway... you want a coffee or some ice cream or something... doofus?" He gives her shoulder a little nudge. Little brother stuff. "C'mon, we'll show everyone who got the looks and the brains in the Shazamily. Maybe we'll find my friend Mads... she plays D&D." He gets up (ow) and offers Mary his hands to help her up.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
"Thanks little brother.. And a tiny pro-tip I learned. If, you really pay attention. You can remember what they are doing, not always understand the why, but mostly the how.. If say you were in real crunch time and needed a report due tomorrow, because you were out saving the world." Mary starts to get up, and she is agile so able to offer a hand to him considering the wounds. "I know, and don't tell anybody I told you that." A quick smile that is far more natural on her face, and she looks around, "Oh, ice cream, that sounds good. And there will be coffee at an ice cream shop. I haven't had ice cream in months. You still eat Superman flavor?" A slight tease. "I hope they have caramel." She motions for him to lead the way, since she is overly familiar.

Billy Batson has posed:
Billy Batson colors a little at the little brother remark. "I don't eat Superman flavor... I get the Gian-Man sundae, which is fitting!" He makes a muscle and studiously avoids emphasizing she's still got an inch on him.

OK a couple inches. Probably wearing heels. He's getting that growth spurt any day. Then he'll be the one laughing!

Billy Batson takes his big sister by the arm. "You asked me how I get better so fast? How I continue? Part of the reason is you, and Darla and the rest and I mean you, not her or Pantheon."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
There is a nod as Mary walks with him, "Thank you." She says in a sincere tone as they walk. "You're wiser than you look, Billy." A pause and a slight elbow touch, "Not, that is really hard though." A soft and less stressed laugh, and off for the panacia that is ice cream.
