Billy Batson grew up as an orphan with a chip on his shoulder due to having to fend for himself for most of his life. However, his innocence and pure heart allowed him to become the champion of an ages-old wizard. With a single word, Billy Batson calls down a magical bolt of lightning to transform into the Earth's Mightiest Mortal: Shazam!

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2005: Batman first appears. So does William (Billy Batson) son of T.C. and Marilyn Batson.
* 2007: T.C. and Marilyn Batson go on an extended trip abroad seeking ancient Egyptian artifacts. Their plane crashes in the Middle East and they are presumed dead. Billy goes to the first of many foster homes.
* 2010: Reports of strange abductions by a Wizard who questions abductees about their purity are reported. Dr. Thaddeus Sivana begins studying the reports of the abductees. Unknown to anyone he was abducted in 1974.
* 2017: Death of Superman via Doomsday. Billy, living in a Metropolis foster home runs away for the first time in the chaos and destruction. He lives in the ruins and off the streets dodging ACS workers and scavenging to survive.
* 2018: Billy is caught by Affiliated Child Services and sent to a group home in Philadelphia run by Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with five other foster children: Mary Bromfield, Pedro Pena, Eugene Choi, Darla Dudley, and superhero enthusiast Freddy Freeman.
* 2019: Dr. Sivana finds access to the Wizard abducting people. He becomes a vessel for the Seven Deadly Sins, going on a murderous rampage. The Wizard summons Billy and makes him his new Champion: Shazam. Shazam fights off Sivana and the Sins but only by sharing his power with his foster siblings. They decide to reveal this to their foster parents.
* 2020: Billy starts a podcast and enjoys a fair measure of success. Billy also promises not to empower all of his foster siblings without his parents' permission. Shazam expands his area of operations to New York.
* 2022: After spending some time getting to know both versions of himself, Billy made his way back to New York and now attends school at Happy Harbor while also galavanting around the globe as Shazam.

Curious:
Billy is driven by his sense of 'wanting to know' bordering on a need. An urge to peek under rocks, behind corners and dig into things that he considers to be a mystery to himself. It has the potential to push him to someday become a journalist of some talent, or a particularly troublesome whistleblower if he ends up in either politics or corporate life. Often poking his nose where it doesn't belong in an effort to uncover the truth.

Friendly:
Despite all of the trouble of his short life, beneath some of the bitterness and disappointment that he has suffered, Billy is an altruistic person who was revealed to himself to be such by the Vasquezes and Freddy. Pushing people away is his last thought, feeling it better to try and surround himself with friends and family. Knowing how one can hurt while alone - Billy reaches out to others that he feels suffer as he once did.

Gentle:
As Billy and Shazam are truly the same person, they are both gentle people who would prefer to solve issues peacefully, straining to solve problems with rational action and leaving violence to the last possible resort. A man or woman who spits in either's face will be forgiven, attempted to be reasoned with and may even get the last word in when Billy or Shazam turns to leave if they're not a criminal or villain trying to hurt people. But their car might end up folded in half and stuck in a haul-away dumpster.

Pure:
Billy and Shazam are heroes above and beyond what he thinks of himself. Age has not jaded him, adult concerns have not sanded away true altruism or eroded it to self-conscious doubt and the need for personal success. Others come first; even when homeless and scavenging Billy would share with others who were hungry, even if it meant he would remain so. He has broken the law to help others because he cannot turn his back on the helpless or suffering.

Sarcastic Wit:
Billy Batson is a bit of a smart aleck. He keeps a sarcastic wit about him in order to protect himself and get the verbal one-up on those that like to put down others. This is usually employed in the service of standing up to bullies or when palling around with his friends and family. Billy makes it a point to never be outright mean, though, as sarcasm is also a bit of a defense mechanism for him. Some telling signs of his sarcasm are instances in which he uses classic old-school phrases like 'Holy Moly' or 'Gee Whiz' or 'Golly' just to be a little brat.

Young At Heart:
While he may, from time to time, be a little rough around the edges, Billy Batson's heart beats at a young man's pace. Growing up on the streets, he never really had an opportunity to live as a child and that comes out a lot when he's Shazam. Both Billy and Shazam are capable of finding the fun, living a little, and generally living it up as Earth's Mightiest Mortal. Underneath all of that muscle and power, a young heart strives to make the world a better place for all those living in it.

Courage of Achilles:
The first A in the acronym, the Courage of Achilles is a gift that is mental: it allows Billy to face the greatest horrors known and unknown to man and still act in the face of that danger. The Courage of Achilles is truly the absence of fear, or the large purging of it, as the ability continues to push Billy to fight even against insurmountable odds in defense of Earth.

However, the Courage of Achilles is not active while Billy is in his base form, which means he can still be frightened and/or controlled. The Courage of Achilles grants Billy further an incredibly strong will, which can make it difficult for telepaths or mind-altering drugs to find footing in his mind.

Magic Word:
Billy Batson is the Champion of Magic, the Earth's Mightiest Mortal, and the Chosen one of the wizard known as Shazam.

By saying the magic word, or 'Shazam!', Billy will be struck by divine lightning which transforms him from a teenager to a full-fledged adult, in his late twenties, early thirties in appearance. The word Shazam is actually an acronym, which each letter drawing him power from a legendary hero or major deity from the Greek Pantheon.

When he says the word, the magical lightning bolt will descend from the heavens and will break through every barrier between himself and the sky and is extremely difficult to stop. Furthermore, the word shazam must be spoken with the intent to transform. Otherwise, the lightning blast is deafeningly loud and the brightness of the bolt can blind foes momentarily.

Power of Zeus:
The Z in the acronym stands for the Power of Zeus, which enables Billy to command the 'living lightning' that transforms him. It allows him to use electrokinesis and command the weather to create thunderstorms via magic. His electrokinesis can be in the form of simple volts of electricity, to actually throwing lightning bolts like the God of Lightning himself. The Power of Zeus also grants Billy a minor resistance to magic, but otherwise he can be affected by magic like anyone else. The Power of Zeus also allows Billy to cast spells or share his power between those whom he chooses.

Speed of Mercury:
The M of the acronym, the Speed of Mercury grants Shazam the ability to fly and hover, though it also grants him the ability to fly up to the speed of light, enabling him to endure the hardships of space without difficulty. Furthermore, the enhanced speed also applies to his perceptions and reflexes, allowing him to see bullets as if they were going in slow motion and evade light-weapons such as laser beams.

He could probably keep up with some of the fastest people in the world, but beat them? That's a different story. He could probably fly to the moon in under an hour and be relatively anywhere on Earth within a very short period of time.

Stamina of Atlas:
The other A of the acronym. The Stamina of Atlas grants Billy incredible physical endurance, allowing him to act at his best indefinitely, since the mystic energies immediately purges fatigue as soon as it begins to set in. Furthermore, so long as Billy is transformed, he's rendered effectively immortal as his cells cease to degrade, and thus he will not show visible signs of aging. Once he transforms back into his human form, he will continue to age as normal.

Strength of Hercules:
As Shazam, the H in the name stands for Hercules, arguably the greatest hero in Greek mythos and the God of Strength. Hercules's power grants Shazam with seemingly unlimited, godlike strength that allows Shazam to perform incredible feats of herculean might, such as lifting a building over his head or being able to punch a hole through a dense spacecraft.

At current, there has been no set limit for Shazam's incredible strength, and its that strength that allows him to go toe to toe with the strongest beings on the planet and stay standing. Very few earthly barriers can withstand his physical might alone.

Wisdom of Solomon:
The 'S' in the acronym stands for the Wisdom of Solomon, who may have been the wisest most knowledgeable man in mythos. The Wisdom of Solomon grants Billy an incredible amount of knowledge when transformed, namely over modern and ancient sciences, history, and other educational fields. The Wisdom also gives Billy clairvoyance to see through deceptive illusions and the ability to speak all languages and thus communicate with anybody, minus technology languages.

Its main gift, however, is just that: wisdom. The Wisdom of Solomon allows Billy to make rational and carefully thought-out decisions, especially in the heat of battle.

Mysticism:
Since becoming Shazam, Billy has gained an impressive knowledge about magic, the occult, and various other mystically related topics that often help him in his superheroic life. Having access to the Rock of Eternity and the artifacts within help him stay well-versed.

Mythologist:
His parents were archaeologists. Their son read about myths when he could as a way to stick close to the memory of his parents. Billy knows a fair amount about gods and goddesses. He has also added urban myths and superheroes to his collective knowledge.

Nimble:
Billy is exceptionally wiry , able to wriggle into odd spots and hide or worm his way out of ropes or gags.

Podcasting:
Billy has the technical know-how to record and post his podcast, as well as run and maintain the website attached to it. He also has a keen mind for branding, marketing, and social media use which allows him to promote the said podcast. He's also an excellent host.

Smooth Talker:
Both Billy Batson and Shazam possess the skill to talk. While they both have their own styles, there's a good chance that talking may be the best way to resolve conflicts and thus is their primary method of survival or beating the bad guys. Billy's prone to sarcastic wit, quipping, and fast-talking to smooth out situations or stall while Shazam often tries to talk down supervillains or reason with criminals before having to punch them through a bus.

Street Magic:
Billy Batson is an expert in street magic. He used to perform on the streets to get money for himself. From card tricks to making things disappear, he's very well versed in magic tricks and enjoys doing them for the entertainment of others. Although, Billy's crafty misdirection and sleight of hand skills don't seem to transfer over to Shazam.

Street Rat:
Billy Batson is a practiced and experienced street rat. He knows the nooks and crannies in almost any city that he's in and if he doesn't, he can learn them pretty quickly. He's become adept at traveling across urban landscapes, able to stay one jump ahead of the law and those that may want to do him harm with some light freerunning. Resourceful and clever, Billy Batson is sometimes more at home on the streets than he is at home.

Thief:
Billy is an almost professional-level thief. He can pick locks, hotwire and steal cars, and lift a wallet or phone from a person. This is due to his time on the streets.

Ear Bud:
Billy received an ear piece to stay in communication with allies during the rescue of Supermen from Brainiac. Afterwards he was encouraged to keep the piece in case Shazam was ever needed. The foremost feature of the bud is its near indestructible material. It is advanced Kryptonian technology and able to tune into a wide spectrum of radio broadcasts. Billy also managed to link it to his cell phone!

Family:
Billy's no longer alone as he's found a foster family that actually loves and cares about him. The family is heralded by Victor and Rosa Vasquez, big supporters of all their children. Billy has a whole squad of adopted siblings as well; Freddy Freeman, Mary Bromfield, Eugene Choi, Pedro Pena, and Darla Dudley. The family has Billy's back as he does theirs and considers themselves to be a true family. They are all in on the superhero secret and sometimes his adoptive siblings take on their own superhero identities when Shazam shares his power with them in which they become the Shazam Family.

Laptop:
Billy has a moderately non-obsolete laptop purchased with a combination of podcast earnings and allowance. It's capable of video editing as well as recording through its microphone and webcam suite.

Phone:
Billy has a low-cost month to month service phone funded mostly by his podcast. It's not top of the line but it has decent recording capabilities, letting him use it as a camera and microphone for field investigations for his podcast and social media.

Media Show:
The Magic Word is a streaming show, playing once or twice a week, hosted by Billy Batson that deals with current events, superhero sightings, and various other elements from the world of heroes and magic. He gives his opinion on things, speaks his mind, and generally attempts to be as entertaining as possible for his listeners.

Each show has a topic that is distilled down to a single word like 'Heroic', 'Sacrifice', or 'Darkness' and from there Billy expands on the topic and brings it full circle back to life. He tries his hardest to keep things on a positive spin, giving people something to cling to in times that are so trying.

Billy goes by the 'The Whiz Kid' Billy Batson on his show.

His previous podcast provided low-end income from loyal subscribers. Since he began his streaming show, with interviews with several young heroes, Billy has built a large audience and is now solid middle class.

Rock of Eternity:
The Rock of Eternity was originally the lair of The Wizard of Shazam. Stumbled upon by Billy Batson, the Rock of Eternity now belongs to Earth's Mightiest Mortal: Shazam! As a general base of operations, the Rock of Eternity exists beneath the surface and can only be accessed through the abandoned subway tunnel that can only be seen by those with the True Sight. Or by magic teleportation.

The Rock of Eternity can be used to imprison powerful magical beings or otherwise serve as a place where Shazam can be alone or learn more about himself and his abilities. It also houses a plethora of mystical artifacts and tomes. The Rock of Eternity serves as a nexus of power in the universe and is considered to be one of the most important and sought-after mystical locations known.

Steve the Stylus:
Steve is an animated fountain pen inlaid with ivory, gold and lapis lazuli, who comes from the Rock of Eternity. He is capable of writing out responses to direct questions rather like a supernatural Chat AI, and having worked for a long line of wizards he has access to a huge amount of knowledge. In practical terms he can answer questions that could realistically be uncovered by a skilled researcher with access to a very extensive (but not exhaustive) magical library and all public information sources.

Powerful morality charms laid on Steve stop him from revealing information that would breach privacy (no revealing secret identities or personal diaries!), and he will not participate in forgery or deceit. Steve will only reply to individuals he believes the Circle of Eternity would consider worthy. OOCly all information Steve reveals is subject to consent of players impacted and scene runners.

Steve will admit to limits of his knowledge when it's ambiguous, but his answers may be unclear due to an assumption of great a priori knowledge in those he communicates with as he's used to talking to wizards. For example, he might tell you to seek the Ninth Portal in the Room of Doors, but neglect to mention the Eighth Portal was destroyed...

Uniform:
Shazam's uniform is nearly indestructible and sheds water, dirt, and all foreign matter. Shazam can clean off hot tar with a paper towel. Billy is discovering the uniform can assume other forms if he concentrates before transforming. He can make it a track suit or even slacks and a sports jacket. Cargo pants are a little harder. The chief limitation is it will only display shades of red, white, or yellow/gold. He mainly uses this power to turn his hooded mantel into a half cape when that is more convenient.

Corrupting influences and powerful magical attacks will turn the uniform black. Shazam can cleanse it by summoning lightning. Summoning more lightning than usual can make the bodysuit temporarily white (Zeus likes white.)

Weaknesses

Alter Ego:
Billy Batson is as normal as any other human being of his age. He's not very tough and doesn't have much athletic ability beyond running. In order to become Shazam he must speak the word with purpose and force. Gagging him or even a solid punch stopping him from speaking can keep him from transforming.

Duty:
As Shazam, Billy feels a responsibility to fight and protect the world from troubles that may plague it. He fights hardest for those that cannot fight for themselves or that have no one. He knows what that is like and he strives to be a beacon of hope for those that need it. This has become one of the many duties that he has taken upon his shoulders and attempts to make the world a better place each day he's in it.

Family:
Billy Batson finally belongs to a family and that family is one of the most important things to him. His foster parents and siblings are his entire world and Billy will do whatever he has to in order to protect them or keep them safe. The entire family is also in on the secret so that could also be used against him. Wary to those that attempt this, though, as Shazam also has godlike wrath.

Guardian:
By taking the powers of the Wizard Shazam, Billy is now the Guardian of the Rock of Eternity. In addition to his superheroing, this makes Shazam responsible for protecting the Rock of Eternity and keeping it from falling into the hands of those that would use its power for their own dark devices. He routinely spends time at the Rock of Eternity, as well, to monitor worlds and dimensions and often finds himself fighting in mystic wars that he knows nothing about.

Naive: Billy is extremely naive. He often believes in the best of people and is thus immediately hurt whenever his trust is betrayed or he's lied to. Because of his naivete, he often thinks of heroes and villains how they should be, rather than they actually are. This leads him to be unable to kill since he values life so preciously.
