Day At The Zoo
Date of Scene: 18 September 2021
Location: Brooklyn
Synopsis: Miles and Kai meet at the zoo and hang out in a tree.
Cast of Characters: Kainashi, Miles Morales

Kainashi has posed:
Kainashi is used to getting into places where she shouldn't be -- like, anywhere, really. Today, the white-and-red pitbull mutant was making her way around the drainage tunnels beneath the Zoo, and she was humming, lightly, pack slung over her back, wearing shorts with pink flowers stitched to the back pockets to cover up the holes. One ear pricks up, her head tilts, and with a soft grunt she moves a set-in grate, pushing it up and out of the way, then restoring it in place, and then nimbly hops up into a tree.

It's a sunny, warm day in Brooklyn, and she removes from her pack her sketchbook, a couple of pencils, and a pair of earbuds, and sets up near the Discovery Trail of the Prospect Park zoo, beginning to sketch people and animals alike in the relaxing afternoon. Nothing could possibly go awry, right?

Miles Morales has posed:
Some days, you want to look at animals. Currently not en-spidered, Miles Morales is at the zoo. The gangly is wandering along the pathways of the place, stopping occasionally to look into an enclosure. He has an overpriced pretzel in his hand, occasionally taking a bite of the mustard-smeared treat. He eventually pauses outside the rhino pit, leaning on the railing and peering down at the dual-horned creatures. He studies their heads, picturing another Rhino in his own. His lips twitch a little. "Pretty close..."

Straightening up again, he heads towards the Discovery Trail this time. He's wearing a black shirt with various colorful, almost random patterns adorning it. His pants are dark blue and on the loose side, unlaced sneakers on his feet. He keeps an eye out for anybody he might know, though with the setting his eyes don't really wander upwards much. As he walks he begins to lightly bob and hum to himself, eyes drooping to half-closed. Pretty good day so far. Nothing has tried to kill him.

Kainashi has posed:
Nothing has tried to kill him... *Yet*.

Kai had been sketching out one of the animals in a different exhibit, when she catches a familiar whiff of something. SOmeone has a pretzel!

Her nose gives another snuff, her multi-colored face slowly poking out of the foliage as she sniffs the pretzel adn then -- oh, wait, there's an additional, very familiar, not-food smell... she snuffs again, taking a slightly-less-than-subtle breath through her nose, and then her face disappears into the leaves again.

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles stops in place. He heard what sound like an animal snuffling, but there's none nearby. He glances around with a puzzled expression. Nothing immedietly becomes obvious. He notices the tree nearby, and peers up at the leaves. Was he hearing things? Was his wild, hedonistic lifestyle finally catching up to him? He pondered that while taking a bite out of his pretzel. Finally he says, "Hello?" Stepping closer to the tree.

Kainashi has posed:
There's a rustling in the tree. Another snuffing, and then a very canine sneeze, followed by the sound of earflapping as she shakes the cobwebs and dust out of her nose.

"... you okay there, kid?" A woman asks, looking over to Miles. She's carrying a bag and has a canvas pair of shorts and one of those 'I am official, I work here' button downs on her in green and gold.

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles blinks a few times as he hears those sounds. His senses are sharper than the lady in canvas, apparently. He glances over at her. "Hmm? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Thuoght I heard something ubt I guess not." He turns and leans against the tree, biting into his pretzel again. "Maybe the heat is getting to me. I'm just gonna hang out in the shade for a while." If who he thought might be in that tree was in that tree, he didn't want to draw any more possible attention to her.

Kainashi has posed:
"Good idea -- don't forget to drink some water. There's a couple of drinking fountains around the bend if you need to get some water." she comments, and mozies up the way again.

And then there's a soft 'thump' from behind Miles. There is now a water bottle on the ground behind him, standing up. It's been opened before, it's missing its label and looks like it's been crinkled and crushed and refilled, but it's cold. There's even some ice remaining in it from when it was in a freezer! How mysterious!

Miles Morales has posed:
Glancing down at the bottle, Miles smiles a little. He bends down and picks it up, glancing around to make sure nobody sees him. Takinga sip he murmurs, "Is that you, Kai?" He stretches the hand holding the pretzel up above his head, closer to the leaves. He still watches in case anybody else walks by. But, they're between enclosures and its not very busy at the moment. So they seem to have a brief period to themselves.

Kainashi has posed:
A furred hand with bright pink painted claws reaches out, and grabs at a piece of pretzel, breaking it off, and her voice comes from above his head.

"... you smell a little different when you don't have a mask on." she comments, feeling a little unsure.

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles sighs a little. Yeah, he thought that was her. "Do I? Good to know." He makes sure nobody is watching again, then quickly scales the tree, disappearing into the leaves. Once there, he settles onto a branch next to Kainashi, giving her a brief one-armed hug. "Hey there. I didn't expect to run into you here." He seems happy enough to see her. He offers another piece of pretzel. "Do you come to the zoo often?"

Kainashi has posed:
Kainashi nimbly draws a little further up the branches as Miles joins her up on the tree. She gives a bit of an embarrassed smile to him; she's wearing some sort of promotional T-shirt advertising the zoo itself -- about six years ago -- and the scarred up canine allows Miles to give her a hug.

"I come here a lot. I like to draw the people as they look at the animals. Especially the kids! Some of them get so excited!" she states, showing Miles a sketch of -- well, himself, looking over the rino pen. Even has a pretzel in his hand.

Miles Morales has posed:
So she's been coming here for some time, apparently. Miles nods his head to her, "Yeah. Kids get the most excited about this sort of thing. I was the same way when I was younger. I really liked the hippos." He studies the sketch pad, grinning briefly at the sight of himself on there. "Aww. You caught my good side." He sets the bottle down on the branch between them, breaks the last chunk of pretzel in half and gives one piece to her before popping the other into his mouth. It's soon gone. "So, been up to anything much since I last saw you?"

Kainashi has posed:
R
"I didn't know it was you at the time. You look different in clothes!" Kainashi states with a smile, and then her ears turn red "I mean wearing clothes. Normal clothes. Not the suit. In normal clothes!" she squeaks, trying to remain quiet as she realizes about two seconds after it came out of her mouth that it could have been taking so, so much more differently.

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles raises his slightly bushy brows at her. "Huh. You haven't been using your ninja skillz to spy on me changing or something, have you Kai?" He says it in a serious tone. But the sparkle in his eyes makes it clear he's just teasing the ninjadog.

Kainashi has posed:
Kainashi squeaks a moment, and she brings her hands up to cover her muzzle, keeping it closed.

"NO! Why would I do that?! I don't even know where you live I respect your privacy!" she replies in a whisper. She might not have caught the tease, taking it seriously.

Miles Morales has posed:
When Miles realizes that, he laughs and gives her another one-armed hug. "I'm just messing with you. I know yo wouldn't do something like that." He shakes his head with a smile. "You're surprisingly easy to tease for a badass ninja." He'd have to remember that in the future.

Kainashi has posed:
Kainashi gives a soft huff, her shoulders coming up, and she shrugs slightly, looking away.

"... I'm not smart. So, sometimes when people say stuff, I take it at place value--" she pauses "/Face/ value." she corrects. "... which makes no sense 'cause there should be tax on it. It's New York."

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles sighs at that, and says, "I think you're smarter than you give yourself credit for, Kai." He raises a hand, and rubs gently at her ears. "Different people just see and interpret things different ways. You're very straightforward. Which is weird, being a ninja and all."

Kainashi has posed:
"Why would it be weird?" Kainashi asks, in spite of the fact that she's slightly leaning into the ear rubs. Humans were weird. Always the ears. She shrugs, munching a bit on the pretzel piece in small, polite chunks. "Not all ninja were smart. Some didn't speak at all. Others... you kinda wish would be quiet every once in a while." she states, getting a far -off look as she raises one ear up.

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles raises and drops a shoulder. "I thought that ninjas were suppossed to be all sneaky and devious. Striking from the shadows and stuff." Which admitedly was something he did himself. He scritches lightly at the base of one ear. If you're around a dog, you want to play with its ears. That's just how it worked. "I still want to meet some of your other ninja friends someday. If they're as cool as you, they'd be good company."

Kainashi has posed:
Kainashi considers a moment. "Well... yeah. We do. That's what we do a lot of the time, when we work. But like, one of them is really, really smart and even has an AI-robot. Another has all the answers for the koans but will ask you what you think. Another is really tough and hard to get along with, but the other is loud and sometimes doesn't mean to be loud." she considers the brothers. "And then another ninja I know is sneaky-quiet all the time. Like silence and death..." she states seriously, trying to think through the scritchings. "... she's my sensei."

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles cocks his head. "They sound like interesting people. I'd particular like to meet your sensei." He switches over to the other ear, scritching it in turn. "I know some smart people myself. Though I haven't spent much time with the other spiders recently..." He considers that. It was something he needed to fix.

Kainashi has posed:
The red and white canine gives an embarrassed sound as she draws her head back again.

"You should be spending time with your family!" she states, with the assumption that they're related, somehow, even by choice. "They're all nice, the ones I've met."

Miles Morales has posed:
Miles shrugs again. "I spend time with my family. And I'll spend time with the other spiders soon." He smiles at her. "But.. for now, I think I'm going to check out the rest of the zoo. We'll hang out soon, alright?" He lightly bumps her with his shoulder, then hops out of the tree once he determines there's nobody aruond. "Take care, Kai."

Kainashi has posed:
"Take care, Miles. Enjoy the rest of your visit. I'll just... hang out here."
