Synopsis: June breaks into Columbia University's labs, to find a rather unintimidated Mairin.
Cast of Characters: June Connor, Mairin Moran

June Connor has posed:
It's late evening when June arrives. Sure there may be a few people who have work to do, but for the most part, the labs are empty. She's wearing a black tee that is a bit too short, revealing the dragon tattoo that wides around her hip, and her black jeans match. Her piercings and half-shaved purple hair says that she's not the most gentle of souls. Whose card is she using to get in here? Well, James Mann wasn't the most discerning to what girls he decided to brag about his inventive prowess, and now it's hers. Is she on camera? Yes. Does she care? Not particularly. She wanders down the hall, looking for the electromagnetic center. No, that's not the right hall.

She's like a sore thumb stopping after she turns, then looking back to another option. "Shit. Who designed this place?" she asks herself.

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin is walking through the now familiar halls the way any real scientist does. With her head down and her eyes focussed on the clipboard she's carrying in one hand, while carrying a cup of tea in the other. Obviously she's oblivious to anything and everything. So much so, in fact, that she doesn't even notice June when she comes around a corner and nearly bumps into her. Just a muttered "Excuse me," that briefly interupts the muttered flow of technical nonsense coming from her mouth, a quick step to the side, and then on again.

And does she spill a drop of tea? Of couse not. This isn't her first late night wander through the halls.

However, it's just possible that June might have caught Mairin mutter the word 'Electromagnetic'...

June Connor has posed:
June is fast, sidestepping deftly to avoid the collision, "Watch it!" she growls aggressively, watching Mairin continue on. She had just decided to go the opposite direction when her ears catch the word, and she turns on her heels, following after the PhD student.

Mairin Moran has posed:
True to her muttering, Mairin is indeed heading exctly where you want to go. She pauses at the door to the Electromagnetics lab, swipes her card, and walks throuugh the door as it opens. All without lifting her head. She does pause to dake a drink of tea though.

"But if this reading is correct then the..." she mutters as she enters and the door slides shut behind her. Shaking her head, she sits down at a desk with her back to the door and gets back to work.

There's no way that this is right... James must have made a mistake.... Figures..."

June Connor has posed:
June catches the door behind Mairin, sliding into the lab behind her, and she looks around. "Hey, where's the PhD projects kept?" she asks, interrupting the muttering as she makes sure the door is fully shut behind her. Of course, June isn't someone who's been seen in here before. "You know, like where you nerds store your pet projects."

Mairin Moran has posed:
There is a moment when Mairin looks as though she might actually just tell you, but then the actual meaning of the words finally sinks through the maze of other probelms and equations she keeps floating around her brain... She turns around, sees June, and her expression sifts to something flowing back and forth between curiosity and indignation.

"Who are you?" It isn't an accusation. Just the first logical piece of information to try to fill in the obvious gaps.

June Connor has posed:
June holds up the badge. "My boyfriend asked if I could come check on his," she says, holding up the badge." Which isn't quite the same as answering the question. She walks through the room though as if she belongs there, that presence of certainty. "Something about makin' stuff invisible?"

Mairin Moran has posed:
"Really?" Mairin doesn't miss the fact that June's supposed 'boyfriend' sent her to check on something but didn't tell her what. "I'm afraid your boyfriend sent you on a fool's errand. He should have known that only the person to whom a badge isassigned may access a lab.

She leans back in her chair, obviously intrigued. "Did he specify that it would be in *this* particular lab? Or are you just picking random ones to look through until you find what you want?"

June Connor has posed:
"Nah I'm clueless," June answers, walking straight to her chair and standing over her. "But not as clueless as you. So look," she reaches into the belt on her hip, and from behind the band she produces a small blade, and thunks it into the table, palm on the pommel. "I'm lookin' for info. No need to freak out, understand? I don't need to steal nothin' today. I just need to know who might be workin' on stuff that can make people invisible," she says, arching one pierced brow. "So, you think you can help me with figurin' that out?" she asks.

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin's eyes sweep slowly from the knife, to June's eyes, where they focus. She stares at June for a long moment before speaking. And when she does, it is calm and slow. "Oh, I'm not going to 'freak out'. Trust me, this isn't the first time I've been threatened. Fear doesn't do much to help matters. In fact, if you can explain exactly what you are trying to accomplish, and why, I may very well be able to help you. At the least it will be better than wandering around the science department until a security guard throws you out."

"Now," she scoots her chair back a bit and smiles. "What are you trying to do?"

June Connor has posed:
"Oh, a hard ass, huh?" June asks. She sits on the table. "Just told you, I'm tryin' to find shit that might lead me to figure out who's designing invisibility...whatevers. Cloak, field generator, somethin' like that. Nerd stuff. I don't know how the shit works, but somebody shot a police captain in the chest over it, and I know someone who wants to help that captain." She rocks the blade, tip as a fulcrum on the table as her hand works it back and forth. "So. You wanna be a hero to the boys in blue?" she asks, giving a sly quirk of a grin. She doesn't look like the type that'd normally be on the same side as a cop, but then who knows, looks can be deceiving.

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin actualy chuckles a bit. "Hardly. I just know how and when to be calm." She squints a little looking past you now. "Invisibility..." Her brow furrows as her brain kicks into gear. "I haven't *seen* anyone working on anything like that..." She gets back on her computer and starts doing some searches. "This might take a bit. Would you like to take a chair?"

She keeps working regardless of June's answer. "So what was your plan if I didn't cooperate? Just out of curiosiy. A little torture here in the lab?" Her tone makes it obvious she never felt that was a possibility.

June Connor has posed:
June shrugs. "I dunno, probably just cut you til you did," she answers. She doesn't take a seat, but looks over her shoulder, watching for any moves to access a security alert. June may not be a college kid, but she does know enough about computers to create trouble now and again.

Mairin Moran has posed:
"Calm down. If anyone comes in, just tell them you're my guest. No one will question it. And I'm not going to turn you in. What would be the point? You're not here to kill anyone. Or steal anything. You just want some information. God, you could have just called me." There's a genuine note of exasperation in that last. As though she'd rather be doing something else.

"Here's something..." She points to her screen. "I knew I'd heard of some kind of research involving invisibility."

She's pointing to a file titled 'Nano Invisibility Cloak Enhancements' Probably not what would cause someone to get shot though.

June Connor has posed:
"Depends on who they're selling it to," June answers, folding her arms across her chest. "So that's somethin' somebody is working on here?" she asks. "Or like, just some research you guys can see from here?"

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin turns her head to look back at June. "Are you interested in the person or the research?"

June Connor has posed:
"The person," June answers with one narrowed eye. "I don't give a shit who they sell them to, not my problem, I'm just the snoop," she says, pulling the knifed back out the table and sliding it back into the line of her belt.

Mairin Moran has posed:
"You realize I can't give you a name if you're going to hurt them. That makes me an accessory, and *I* rather enjoy not being a criminal."

June Connor has posed:
"Cry me a river," June answers. "It's a fuckin super hero that wants it," she says. "Not one of the murderin' ones, so I'm sure it'll be fine." She reaches out to slap Mairin on the back, and shoves her seat a little closer in. "Just gimme a name so I can get out of here."

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin visibly jumps. Perhaps she was never quite as calm as she let on... "Bryan Batten. He's the one working that particular project. I've never worked with him, so I don't know anything about him. But Nothing I've heard makes me think he would be involved in anything... Underhanded."

June Connor has posed:
"Maybe he ain't," she says. "That's for somebody else to figure out." She tosses the stolen badge on the keyboard. "Thanks. Here, you can turn this in to lost and found." James Mann. "And if you know him? Tell him he sucks in bed." She backs off, heading for the door. Wait, how'd she get this card?

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin swivels her chair around. "Next time? Just call me. No need for all the..." she waves a hand, "theatrics."
