Mairin Moran is a robotics and quantum mechanics expert and research scientist born and raised in Gotham City. Brought up in the middle of some of the darkest moments in the city's history, she has managed to hold on to an almost childlike curiosity and wonder that she throws into everything she does.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1998: Mairin is born in Gotham, to Steven, a professor of poetry, and Siobhan, a concert pianist.

* 2001: Her brother, Sean is born.

* 2005: Hears the rumors of the Batman. This begins a long obsession with gadgets and gizmos.

* 2011: Caught up in No Man's Land at the age of 13. Her mother is injured in the initial tidal wave and unable to evacuate. They hunker down and do their best to ride it out, but she can't help feeling that if she was smarter, she could have helped them escape.

* 2012: Witnessing a global invasion by aliens, Mairin becomes obsessed with the advanced technologies and determined to work with them one day.

* 2013: The Sentinels spark a love of robotics in young Mairin who already excels at any science class she takes.

* 2014: Graduates valedictorian from High School at 16. After an argument with her father who wants her to attend GCU, she instead starts at Berkley, on a full Wayne Scholarship.

* 2015: Spends her time in college either locked in her room or holed up in the library.

* 2016: A brief romance with her roommate ends and Mairin is never quite sure why.

* 2017: Graduates top of her class from Berkley, heads to grad school at Carnagie Mellon.

* 2018: Loki attacks NY and Mairin witnesses the combination of magic and technology for the first time. She is drawn to the infinite possibilities that this suggests.

* 2019: Receives Masters, moves to New York to begin doctoral work. She isn't fond of the city, but is certain this is the best place to work on her technomancy theories.

* 2020: Receives attention from multiple federal agencies for her work on quantum power transmission.

* 2021: Graduates from Columbia University, stays on as an assistant researcher while considering where to work.

Blunt:
Why would you waste time saying anything you don't really mean? Though Mairin has learned the hard way to consider what she says, she still has a tendancy to be very blunt and to the point in her dealings with other people. Esspecially when those people are being, in her opinion, idots.

Curious:
Insatiably curious, it is nearly impossible for Mairin to resist a puzzle. The more obscure the better. This applies not only to questions of science or technology, but to people as well. Why DO people say one thing when they obviously mean another?

Dreamer:
Unlike many of her fellow scientists, Mairin has never been one to limit her thinking to what seems possible today. Every advancement has a million uses, and the trick is thinking of the ones no one else will.

Focused:
She tends to have a one-track mind, focussing on a single task until it is finished, to the exclusion of nearly everything and everyone else.

Billiards:
Mairin has spent countless hours practicing various billiard games as a way to clear her mind when she is stressed. Like raquetball, she enjoys the game's pure reliance on physics and skill.

Mechanical Engineering:
Mairin is a highly skilled mechanical engineer with focusses in robotics as well as cutting edge power sources and transmissions.

Quantum Mechanics:
Mairin has spent the last two years studying ways to use quantum mechanics in the transmission of power for multiple applications. She is considered an expert in this field.

Racquetball:
Mairin started playing racquetball in high school at her parents' insistence that she "get out and do something". She still practices often as she finds it helps her focus and think through particularly troublesome problems. She enjoys the games reliance on physics and has become quite adept at it.

Mairin's Babies:
These tiny robot creatures are customizable into numerous forms on the fly for various situations. But they all have the same basic functionality. Surveillance, that feeds data back to a pocket sized audio/video display that Mairin carries with her. Additionally, should the situation demand it, they can be configured or imbued with magic to accomplish other simple functions such as, repeat a sound, flash a bright light, emit high pitched audio, etc. And each can be set to self-destruct to prevent capture.

Mairin's Wand:
What seems at first like a simple 1.5 foot rod of cold forged iron tapered to a point at one end is, in fact, a conglomeration of tools hidden in collapsible and separatable sections. These tools include, a non-lethal tazer, antenna extension to increase the range of her Babies, soldering iron, welder, various common tools and meters, and a flashlight able to emit various wavelengths of light.

Nancy Rial:
Though their break-up was tramatic at the time, both Mairin and Nancy have moved on and still keep in touch off and on. A lawyer at a prestigious firm in San Fransisco, Nancy is always just a phone call away whenever Mairin has questions about whether she's actually allowed to do something. Legally.

Parents:
Despite leaving home for school when they wanted her to stay, and studying science instead of the liberal arts, Mairin is still very close to her parents and can always call on them when she needs help. As a tenured professor at GCU, and a locally famous pianist, they have just enough local influence and funds to help her through some tight spots.

Neutral:
To say that Mairin is motivated by discovery for the sake of discovery would be putting things mildly. It isn't that she is oblivious to how her discoveries might be used, she simply rarely takes the time to think on it to the point where it affects her actions. Besides, with rare exceptions, is one power really any more noble than another?

Uncarring:
Prone to bluntness and practicality, Mairin can often come across as uncarring. While this isn't exacty true, she does certainly care more about her work and whatever problem has her fixated presently, than any of the people in her imediate orbit. The only exceptions to this are her family, for whom she will immediatly drop everything.
