Dyani Gets a New Roommate!
Date of Scene: 15 October 2021
Location: 01B - Dyani's Dorm Room
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Dyani Zitkala, Reagan Murphy, Madison Evans

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani keeps the room clean, all of it. Her part, the empty part that has new boxes in it, all of it. She even scrubs the kitchenette even though she had never once used it because she has no idea how to cook. At the moment, she is sweeping the entire room up into one neat pile, which means keeping her wings from fluttering, which is /never/ easy. They like to do that on their own when she gets excited, and she's excited... new roommate. Now hopefully this person won't hate her.

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy had her aunt drop her off and sighs as she looks around. Aunt Bonnie's apartment is just a little bit far away and so they mutually decided that she would stay at the dorms during the week and commute back to Bonnie for the weekend. She's pretty much grown, after all, and it's almost going to be like having her own apartment, except with a roommate she doesn't know. Prep for college, all that.

She wears an oversized sweater that she knitted herself, cream colored with brown horses all around it. She has two suitcases, dragging them up and then getting to the door, pausing for a second. She's nervous, really nervous. People aren't always what she's best at. Finally, she opens the door and stands there, long red hair spilling over her shoulders. "Uh. Hi."

Madison Evans has posed:
"Who could hate you?" Madison remarks in a casual, conversational tone. "That's ridiculous. You're like the most likeable and easy-going people I know - you're friendly to everyone!" She wipes any traces of dust off Dyani's desk as she talks, making sure everything is as neat and tidy as possible. "I mean, she'd have to be a real- oh hi!"
Turning towards the door as it opens, Maddie waves the rag in her hand towards the girl - then lowers it with a bit of embarrassment. "Welcome to Happy Harbor! I'm Maddie."

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Spinning around in the air, Dyani looks to the voice she heard and the person who made it. A /huge/ smile spreads across her face before she flitters over and extends her hand toward the person.

"Hi!" she chimes almost hyperactively, definitely cheerful. "I'm Dyani Zitkala, nice to meet you!"

She realizes then that she is hovering perhaps too high then drops to the ground so she is more the right level, but still short, short.

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy is startled by Dyani's appearance, no doubt, but manages to keep something of a poker face about it. She's good at repressing emotions, has made it something of a major hobby, even. All of which would be good if she didn't reflexively disappear entirely for about five seconds before reappearing again precisely where she had been. Well. So much for pretending to be normal.

"Hi, um, I'm Reagan Murphy," she says, dragging her oversized suitcase in behind her. "Guess I'm going to be your roommate," she says, having at least been given her roommate's name in advance. Which means the other girl is a friend or another resident.

Madison Evans has posed:
"Dude! You can disappear!" Captain Obvious interjects, obviously surprised and delighted by this turn of events. "That's so cool! Man, this school is the best. Umm - do you want me to help you with one of the suitcases? I'm stronger than I look," she offers helpfully. "I'm Dyani's friend. She's been so excited about getting a roommate!"

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani nods repeatedly, a lot, too much really. "We have, we really have. We've been alone in this room for a while now, and really like company... we have been told we talk too much, and get too excited and..." she reaches up to snag a bee out of the air and put it back on her head before it can reach Reagan.

"Do you have problems with bees? We sure hope not, we really hope not because we have bees, a lot of them really, they are our hive."

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy takes a seat on the edge of what she presumes to be her bed, pulling her legs up and curling them underneath her, "I'm fine with bees," she says. "As long as they don't sting me or anything. Nobody likes that."

She's a bit overwhelmed by how cheerful and straightforward these people are. She's used to hanging out online with ironic and aloof types who try not to care too much about anything except maybe their favorite murder-laser teenage soap opera show. "Yeah, I can disappear. I can change how I look, too," she shrugs. "Not my idea, but I guess it's useful."

Madison Evans has posed:
"You can cast disguise self and invisibility!" Madison immediately crows - before clamping her hands over her mouth and letting out a little giggle. "Ahem. Sorry. D&D nerd - that's seriously cool, though. Dyani's bees are the nicest, though. See? Dyani - can I have some bees?" Maddie asks - holding out a hand for the insects to land on.
Once she has some, she'll reach out with her other hand - gently poking at one of the bees, then encouraging it to climb up onto the tip of her finger. "They haven't stung me even once."

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Chewing a little at her bottom lip, Dyani looks from Madison to Reagan, and then back again. She's not the quickest to pick up on social signals, but enough cues and she can get it. Trying very hard to keep the excitement locked up a little more, she finishes sweeping and uses the dust pan to get the little pile that was made.

"They do not sting people," she offers less hyperactively. "Bees only sting when they are threatened, other wise they are harmless and required for people to eat."

Carrying the dust pan to the garbage, she dumps it before putting the broom and pan back in the closet, hanging them up on their hooks. The antennae on her head wiggle a little and three bees lift off from somewhere on her head or shoulders and zip right over to Madison's hand. Once that is done, Dyani opens a drawer on her desk, pulls out one sugar cube, then walks over and offers it to Madison to offer to the bees. "They like you Madi, you give them sugar water."

She turns her head a little to look at Reagan, really trying hard to contain her excitement, but her wings simply will /not/ stop fluttering behind her. "It really is cool abilities Reagan," she offers. "We don't get to choose what we can do, that's sort of how it works for most of us. We did not choose to turn into a bee-like person, but we did and ta-da, bee-like person!" Okay, the end was too full of excitement.

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy hardly knows where to look with all the fluttering of wings and twitching of antenna. It isn't polite to stare, after all, so she turns her eyes down for a moment, just looking at her own fingers as they interlace and fidget a bit. She's nervous, obviously, and it's taking a bit of effort for her not to just vanish again. Easier to be alone, but her aunt tells her she can't live her life that way.

She has another set of abilities, too. But she's not likely to share those. She doesn't want them to be scared of her.

"Didn't get to choose is kind of an understatement in my case," she says, not elaborating. The D&D nerd piques her interest, though, "I've kind of always wanted to play D&D. I love fantasy stuff, but I was homeschooled so I...didn't have the friends."

Madison Evans has posed:
"Well. Gotta take care of the bees, right? Or we don't get any apples, or strawberries, or zuchinnis. And that would //suck//." Some of Madison's manic energy seems to be reining in a little as well - though she's still all smiles. She accepts the sugar cube, offering it to the three bees to enjoy.
"We have a D&D club here at school - run by Mister J'onzz. He's from Mars. Like - literally. You'll like him!"

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani doesn't mean to pick up on the changes in Reagan's pheromones', it just happens because of the bees and her own nose. She can tell Reagan is nervous and having issues beyond just that, perhaps even a little freaked out? Maybe.

"Uh... we could also, maybe... just play the three of us, maybe Irie for a fourth. We are not the best at the game, but we could try to GM so there are not too many people." She looks to Madison, the expression saying 'agree to this'.

Now the little bee woman is trying very hard to hold her wings still, trying to let the excitement pass more. "If you would like, we can run a curtain," she points to the ceiling. "There to there, then you can draw it and have the space around your bed all to you." She offers a bright smile. "We could run another one there to there," again she points. "And block off the whole front area from this area too, if that would help."

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy shakes her head, "We don't...we don't have to do that," she says. She's shy, yes, but she doesn't want to be antisocial. "After all, if I really don't feel like being seen, I can just...not be seen," she says with a hint of a grin.

"Just a bit of only child syndrome. I'm sure I'll get used to it," she says. "I appreciate the offer, though. It's very thoughtful."

Her mind is boggled by the idea of someone from Mars, "I thought I'd be weird just being from Chicago."

Madison Evans has posed:
"Ooo! I'm from Calfornia," Madison volunteers eagerly. "We got kids from all over at school here. I mean, on account of they'll take all the - you know - special cases." She grins at Reagan, then looking towards Dyani, she nods and smiles at the other girl's suggestion. "Yeah. We could do our own small D&D group. That'd be a lot of fun! I bet Irie'd be totally down for that. Then we could make the campaign be anything we wanted!"
Looking back to Reagan she asks, "Do you want to try holding one of Dyani's bees? They tickle your hand. It feels nice."

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani finally sits herself in the chair at her desk, mostly so she can more easily keep her wings from flittering.

"They are very sweet and innocent little bees, all workers, all female, my hive," she beams proudly. "We are from Arizona, the reservation there. Our human parents still live there, and are considering once again raising horses like they used to do. We all have our..." she pauses, looking for a word then just shrugs and continues. "Messed up stuff, oddities, strangeness... some are obvious," she gestures to herself. "Some are not," she gestures to Madison and two bee fly off her arm... too much movement.

"But we are all friendly, and we try to help one another, so if there is ever anything at all you need, ever... anything... let us know, even if that ever and anything is to shut the F up and leave you alone because other wise, yeah... we'll try very hard to be your friend. It's out nature." Beaming another smile, she suddenly remembers something. Diving under her desk like someone just yelled 'air raid' she crawls out with a tin of cookie in hand.

"Our human mother sent us cookies!" She says cheerfully, then climbs back into the chair. Popping the lid off the tin, she offers the peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies toward Reagan. "She likes to bake for us now that we are found and not a Hydra puppet."

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy considers for a moment and then reaches out, extending her hand, "I guess I should make friends, if the bees are going to be a regular part of life now. I'll have to stock up on sugar water," she says.

"I'll look forward to the D&D thing. That definitely sounds fun. I'll finally be able to check that experience off my list," she says. "And I appreciate you being friendly. I guess I'm not used to it. I don't know how to do it very well. I'm not mean or anything, I'm just not very...expressive, I guess," she says. "I've got some depressive issues. I'm on medication and stuff and I see a therapist every week. I'm not supposed to be ashamed of my mental illness," she says.

She takes one of the cookies, taking a bite, "My mom's in prison. If she sent cookies, I wouldn't eat them. Or let anyone else eat them either."

Madison Evans has posed:
"Hydra is //the worst,//" Madison remarks - as if she has any means to be an authority on the subject. They hurt Dyani - and that's enough for her. Jerks.
"Oh. Gosh, well - I mean - me and Dyani both get excited. And- Well, and Irie too, if I'm being honest. We can be //a lot//. But it's okay, you know, being more chill. Theo and he- his friend Pete are chill, you know? Most people are- well, more chill than Dyani and Irie and me. And, well, umm... if there's anything I can do, or Dyani can do to help when you're having a tough time..." She seems to have no qualms about volunteering her friend without so much as a glance. "I had a tough time when I moved out here and away from my friends. And when- well. I had some nightmares lately, and that was kinda tough too. I mean, it's probably not the same at all I just mean-" She cuts herself off, looking between the other two teens before concluding with, "I'm babbling. Shutting up now."

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani scoots her chair just a little closer to Reagan, offering her a soft smile. "You're okay just like you are Reagan," she offers quietly, more calmly. "You have nothing to be ashamed of, not one single thing. We were really depressed for a time, after we were rescued. We had to stay in a safe house, away from our human parents, away from Clarice, mostly alone because Sentinel was very boring..."

For a moment she almost looks depressed while remembering that time, but then she perks right back up with a smile, "It was right after Clarice rescued us, it was for our safety, cause Hydra was still looking for us... but it got better, because Clarice helped us, and Rogue helped us, and Sam helped us... we think we are saying that you will be alright, because you have people who will help."

Reagan Murphy has posed:
The mention of Hydra gets a startling reaction, making the girl jerk and pull back onto the bed just as she's starting to warm up, wrapping her arms around her knees. She disappears again, this time staying that way, utterly vanished right in the spot. Then her disembodied voice can be heard.

"What do you know about Hydra? My mother was in Hydra. That's why she did what she did, she wanted to make them happy so she experimented on me and my dad. My dad died and I was the success story and then they wanted to own me and make me kill for them and I didn't want to and I didn't even know and then I..."

She starts to breathe heavily, almost hyperventilating, before she forces herself to reappear again, her face hidden against her knees and her red hair covering like a veil, "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to...I think they're still looking for me, too," she says softly.

Madison Evans has posed:
"THE. WORST!" Madison suddenly exclaims emphatically - looking almost stricken by Reagan's reaction to the conversation. "I- well. I don't really know anything except what Dyani's told me. That they took her from her family, and hurt her, and stuff. They're awful people. Just awful. I'm sorry they hurt you too..."
She looks between the invisible girl, and Dyani, and the empty bed again - and then suddenly Reagan is back. "You don't need to apologize. You're cool. They're the awful ones."
Looking back to Dyani she stage-whispers, "Can your Clarice protect her too?"

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani jumps slightly, she hadn't expected that reaction nor that Reagan knew about Hydra. Most people didn't know much more than what was on the news, most people didn't care to know more than that.

While Reagan was invisible she scooted a little closer again. "We... we were kidnapped by Hydra, a year after our change to this," she gestures to herself. "They kept us for three years, experimented on us, controlled us, made us do things to people that were mean and really not nice at all." She shifts a little, chewing at her bottom lip before looking at Madison a moment, then back to Reagan. "It is okay to hate them, to want to destroy them and to fear them, we feel that for them as well, but no one will take you again Reagan, no one will hurt you. We can promise that because if we tell Clarice and Mystique, they will protect you like they protect us."

She offers her hand, it doesn't have to be taken but she knows all too well what Reagan is feeling right now, what she is thinking, the fear, the terror, the anger, the depression. "We promise you, nothing will ever happen, we will not let it."

Reagan Murphy has posed:
Reagan Murphy works hard to get her fear under control. In truth, she hadn't suffered so very much, her mother trying to make the experiments seem like medical treatments. Only the illness that accompanied it, so similar to the one that had taken her father from her, had truly made her hurt, made her afraid. "When I found out, I ran away. It was easy, since I can do what I do," she says.

She takes the hand experimentally and gives a small squeeze, "I don't need to be protected. I can protect myself. I just don't want to. Because if they come after me I'll kill them and I don't want to kill anybody. Not even bad people."

Madison Evans has posed:
"Well - just 'cuz you can protect yourself, doesn't mean you need to do it alone," Madison suggests. "We look after one another. We're supposed to, you know? It's less scary that way. And, ya know, less alone. Obviously." She hesitates a moment before offering, "I can do stuff, too. I'm practicing to get stronger and better at it. See?" She holds out her hand - and one of Dyani's cookies flies into her grasp. She immediately takes a bite - then grins at Reagan. "Pretty neat, right?"

Dyani Zitkala has posed:
Dyani smiles and leaves her hand where Reagan can get to it if she wants to.

"We understand the desire to kill them, and not want to kill them. We feel it too," she nods knowingly. "We do not want to kill anyone, but if they come near me, or you, or anyone we care about, we will kill... but honestly we do not think they will come here. Too many witnesses." She points at Madison as if she alone is a witness.

"All over the school, and all over New York even. They will not come."
