A fresh SHIELD recruit from the Air Force, Camille wields magic and modern techniques together in an effort to protect the community. When she's not working, she can be found working on artistic hobbies or enjoying something new - and having only been in the city a few months, everything is new to her. She's spent almost half her life hiding from the demons that killed her mother, but she's finally ready to put down some roots, even if it means confronting the darker parts of her past.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1997: born to George Russo and Corinne de Vezin in New Orleans, LA.
* 2001: Parents divorce. She stays with her mother. Her father is assigned to the Atlanta field office.
* 2005: Camille's family is displaced to Mississippi for almost three years after a massive hurricane hits New Orleans.
* 2011: Her grandparents are killed by demonic entities, and Corinne dies shortly after from the backlash of an interrupted tracking ritual to find the demons.
* 2011-12: CPS sends her to live with her father, currently stationed at the San Francisco field office. George is aware of magic due to his own work, and convinces her to change her last name back to Russo in an effort to distract anything that might be hunting her using modern technology.
* 2015: George is killed while investigating the SF branch of the Triad. Camille is 18, but still finishing school. She is evaluated and signs on to the Air Force within a month of her dad's murder. She starts pre-Basic training immediately upon signing, and starts prepping for that - and her future work in SERE.
* 2023-24: Camille is accepted into SHIELD and undergoes agency training before being assigned to New York City.

Personality

Daring:
Camille is not one to back down from a challenge, provided it doesn't affect work. She loves exploring new places and trying new experiences, and she's steady in the face of fear or uncertainty. Occasionally this can verge on recklessness - noted in her military files - particularly when those she is closest to might also be at risk. If you want to do things for an adrenaline rush, she's a great person to have in the passenger seat.

Direct:
Her communication style is straight-forward and honest, although her time in the military has taught her to temper that with politeness and diplomacy. She knows the difference between rudeness and honesty, but she'll get pointedly blunt if her attempts at politeness aren't getting through.

Realistic Idealist:
Her personal values and sense of honor are strong, and she uses those as a guideline for living her life. That said, she's realistic about the fact that not everyone has those same values or honor, and that with her line of work there might be times where the orders given to her push the line of what she finds acceptable. Sometimes, she speaks up about these things that push the farthest, but other times she has to reckon with herself and her faith. She tries to find the good in many things, but she very much works on a 3 or fewer strikes rule, depending on what the offense is. Many people can be shown a better path. Some can't, and those people have to be dealt with for the safety of the greater community.

Responsible:
She has excellent personal discipline and self-control. She takes ownership for her actions and mistakes, and doesn't like letting others down. Sometimes she takes on too much in an effort to fulfill her duties to others, but her time in the military has taught her to be more reasonable about delegating.

Hexes and Curses:
Camille's offensive magic isn't terribly strong or varied, and it's generally non-lethal. She tends to etch her offensive magics onto blank bullets to cause various sorts of disorientation, lasting somewhere between 15-30 minutes. (Those effects vary, but can include sensory dampening, incapacitation, or altered perception.) Her knives have etching to deliver mild electric shocks or cause the wound to have a sensation much like muscle rub, alternating between very hot and cold in turns.

Protective:
The protective magics that Camille is most proficient at aren't strong enough to prevent all damage or death, but what they can do is offer deflection and blunting of damage. Missed organs, cleaner hits, and some small levels of stabilization. The personal shield she can pull up is the most overt at deflection - it's a small, invisible circle of force (~14" diameter) that actively repels items that hit it. With time, materials, and a lot of magical effort she can do a ritual to fortify a room roughly 12' x 12' in size against various surveillance, but it would need to be done to the same spot multiple times to become permanent.

Stabilization is another part of this. Camille has the standard first aid and field training from her time in the military, but she's not a medic. Her spells for stabilization mostly enhance battlefield aid-stretching the use of basic supplies, offering a little more support than a standard wrap or splint for sprains and breaks, and as a worst case scenario the ability to put someone into a short sleep that keeps them stable. That sleep lasts about a half hour, and takes a significant amount of energy from Camille as she's effectively sharing some of her life force with the person in the sleep.

Varied Mediums:
The expression of her magic requires some sort of anchoring focus, generally a rune or small image that she uses to describe the sort of effect she wants to occur. With the exception of her own personal shield, her magic must be written by something, not just traced into the air. The item used will vary the strength or longevity of the spell, with blessed or magically infused items (such as chalk or holy water) having a greater effect than their mundane counterparts would. Camille generally keeps a sharpie or similar style marker with a fine to medium tip on her person as an average strength and length option, and her field gear has small runes that have been embroidered with thread dipped in her own blood, for an almost permanent protection.

Voudou Louisianais:
The family magic of the de Vezin clan pulls heavily from the mashup of the traditions and African diasporic religious expressions in Louisiana. Over the decades each practitioner in the family has further shaped their own expressions of these deeply individual practices, incorporating some of the commonalities (such as ritual and the use of gris-gris) with other practices or styles that speak to them. Camille largely uses imagery (runes, small pictures, words) and charms, using various mediums to affect strength or longevity.

Much like there are admonishments against angering the fae, the family also tries to avoid displeasing the spirits, saints, and loa that may be listening. A direct connection to - or worship of - those spirits is not something they typically engage in, but it's never bad manners to leave an offering if you're going to be working big magic.

Skills

Athleticism:
She's field ready and is in excellent physical condition for someone her age. Running isn't her favorite activity, but she makes sure to keep her cardio and stamina up, and does enough weight lifting that she can can lift and carry a coworker when needed.

Diplomacy:
Camille is calm in a crisis and has been trained in negotiation and de-escalation tactics. She's willing to fight, but she believes in attempting peace first if possible.

Multi-Lingual:
Camille is fluent in English and French (formal and Louisiana French dialects), and conversant in Spanish.

Personnel Recovery:
Camille was part of the Air Force as a Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Specialist. She's worked with airmen, other branches, and affiliated groups to ensure that should they be caught or stuck behind enemy lines, they have the training to survive. She's trained in various climates and environments, and knows how to relay that training to others.

Weapons Training:
Camille has all the standard training in lethal and non-lethal weaponry that you'd expect from someone that's former military and currently SHIELD, including extensive self-defense.

Resources

Family Ties:
She's the last of the main line de Vezin family, but she's got cousins in various parts of the world that are willing to open their doors to her. Her father was the middle of the three Russo siblings, and she still visits her aunt, uncle, and their families as time allows.

Life Insurance:
Her father died in action, and as his only child, she got a tidy sum from his life insurance. With smart investing, she's got a tidy nest egg and a solid 401k. Now if only she could get some of that rent control life...

Quid Pro Quo:
Camille can call on former workmates and the like to trade favors or help in tricky situations. In return, she'll do the same for them. There are certain things she's not willing to get tangled up in with a personal appearance, but that doesn't stop her from making a charm or decorative item with a little bit of magic to help her buddies out.

Weaknesses

Imposter Syndrome:
She's a daughter of New Orleans but wasn't steeped in the rich history of the city for long enough to fully feel like the city is hers. It's obvious to lifers in a dozen small ways - favorite things in the city, the way she slips into formal French sometimes - but to people who are only superficially familiar with the city it isn't nearly as obvious. Most of it is her own hang-ups, but it can be a dangerous thing when you're flinging magic around.

Inherited Enemies:
The demonic entities that killed her mother and grandparents were very old enemies of the de Vezin family. Now that Camille is the last one in the main line, their eyes - and harmful thoughts - are firmly on her.

Limited Training:
She has the training her family managed before their deaths, family grimoires, some home videos, and the superstitions of an entire city, but a lot of what she's learned has been DIY. She could use some dedicated training from other magicals.
