Days of Future Past

2017 -- An attempted assassination of US Senator Robert Kelly by Mystique and the Brotherhood of Mutants is thwarted by the X-Men in Washington DC. Kelly is an outspoken proponent of anti-mutant legislation that expands the Mutant Felon Relocation Act into the Mutant Registration Act.

The X-Men are alerted to the events by a time-traveling X-Man whose mind was sent back in time from the future. The unsuccessful attack further fuels Kelly's ardor for the legislation, but the heroic rescue by mutants generates positive public opinion that provides a setback for Kelly's legislation.
