The Check In
Date of Scene: 07 August 2023
Location: An Isolated Stretch -- Outside the City
Synopsis: Cable and Monet drop in on Outlaw to make sure that all is well. Possibly laying the ground work in case they need to draw her in to the latest missions. X-Force.
Cast of Characters: Cable, Monet St. Croix, Inez Temple

Cable has posed:
For the most part Nathan Summers -- though he more often goes by Cable for a whole host of reasons -- keeps pretty busy, pretty focused on whatever mission he is currently working, or possibly preparing for the next one. To put it mildly, he is rather dedicated to his job.

But then it isn't just a job to him. It's a crusade.

Still, much of what he does requires a team. As formidable as he can be, he's not foolish enough to believe that he can do it on his own. Frequenlty those teams make use of specialists, sometimes independent contractors. Sometimes he draws that talent from closer to home. And more often then not, it comes directly from X-Force.

But regardless of whether he is making use of his contacts in the shady world of professional mercenaries or drawing in friends -- or at least allies -- keeping in the know about what's going on, what they're up to, is a pretty important bit of knowledge.

Which is what brings Cable out here today, well away from the confines of the city. Down back roads galore. To a little stretch, barely big enough it seems to house the trailer he finds there. Did he come by car? Of course not.

There is a quiet fizzle in the air, a blurring that seems to have no source and he simply materializes only a dozen or so steps from the door to that same trailer, a little voice sounding in his headset.

"Bodyslide complete."

Monet St. Croix has posed:
And M is along with him for reasons that are her own. Perhpas she shares some of Cable's nightmares. Perhaps she's seen what his future may or may not be, and is tortured at night and wants to stop it. Perhaps she's morbidly curious about him, and just what it is that has made him.

Maybe she's just curious about what Deadpool may or may not have calleda t one point the mobile pouch breeding factory. "You still haven't explained where that music comes from wherever you go." Is it from the TEchno-Organic mesh that prevents his powers from overloading, that in turn he must use his powers from to keep it from devouring him? Is it both a way to sustain and constantly torture him?

But it still begged the question of perhaps why, or perhaps not that no matter where he went, the future soldier always had the Terminator theme playing.

Inez Temple has posed:
The door to the trailer kicks open, and standing in the doorway with an M16 is Inez Temple. Such might be expected from someone known as Crazy Inez, but she loathes disappointing her fans.

Of course, once the figures of the two visitors coalesce from the light of the sun, Inez just laughs. "Y'all about to get your chins blown off." Unlikely, but who wants to argue that point? She turns and sets the rifle inside and hops out of the trailer, boots crunching on the gravel as she makes her way over to Cable. "What brings y'all out to my neck of the woods? I didn't miss my membership dues again, did I?"

Cable has posed:
While Cable might not exactly be a trusting sort -- experience hasn't left him too much room for that -- he generally has a pretty good feel for people. Especially those that he works with. It's an occupational necessicty afterall. It's probably why his guns -- and once again he has more than a few on him -- remain slung over his shoulders, or resting in a holster at his side. He's pretty sure that the trailer's occupant won't shoot them.

Pretty sure.

The solider from the future does shoot Monet a brief look, his one real eye glinting in the sunlight and a brief smirk playing across his features. "Wade's not here Monet. Don't feel the need to play his part," he says lowly before the door to the trailer is thrown open and they're held at gunpoint. At least briefly.

See? He was pretty sure she wouldn't shoot him and here they are, still unshot. Today might be one of those better days that he's heard so much about.

"Nothing so drastic. Just haven't checked in with you for awhile. Thought we should drop by. Be neighborly.

It's possible that's the some total of it. Stranger things have happened, right?

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would go to cross her arms over her chest and glance over at Inez, "Are we trying to try the next step up in class from Tabitha?" She wouldn't be phased by the weapon pointed over at her. In the last few months she'd been shot at by worse. Strange Celestial weapons from the Savage land, Shi'Ar Assassins, having to spend time in the same room as Deadpool..

But, in some way she trusted Cable - or at least his experiences when it came time to choosing the 'least worst' of options. "Have you had any luck keeping an eye over onw hatever this idiot group that is.." Doing anything? Could it be Sublime? Could it be whatever lunatic was propagating this mutant cure? Or one of a hundred other daily threats that made up their lives?

Inez Temple has posed:
"Hadn't realized you had plopped down in a trailer, Cable." Inez pokes up at her hat as she lifts her head to regard the taller man. "Unless you got a different concept of neighbor than I do."

She rolls her eyes a bit at Monet. "Look, I don't care much about class and decorum. But if I did, I'm sure I'd be able to do a good job of it."

Then, back to Cable. "So what really brings you out here? If it's just for the beer, I gotta warn you, I went pretty hard last night, so I'm runnin' a bit low."

Cable has posed:
He gives a quiet snort and a shrug of his shoulders at Money. "Take your pick," he says quietly. While John Sublime and his Transhumanist movement might be the group he's focused on at the moment, it isn't as if there are a number of other threats out there on his radar as well. Sometimes that seems to be what he spends the bulk of his time on really. Moving from one threat to the next.

Flickering his gaze back towards Inez, Cable gives a small shrug of his shoulders. "I have a pretty big neighborhood," he says quietly. It comes from having a satalitte that can pretty much teleport him anywhere in the world with a little preparation. Really shrinks the globe down and makes everything local. "I think I can leave you to whatever stockpile you have left. If I'd know I would have brought you reinforcements," he adds quietly.

See? He can be nice when he wants to be.

Running a hand back through that shock of white hair, he gives a small shrug. "Really was just checking in. Haven't seen you for awhile. Never know when another steady hand might come n handy so I thought I'd make sure that you were doing alright."

He might even be sincere.

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would shrug, "They are the most important things -to- concern oneself over. They are what separates us from lower life forms and animals." That's mostly a grousing over towards herself. That's not made particularly blatant given what they're talkinga bout. War and such make for equality amongst all. Because there tend to just be two breeds in conflict.

the living and the dead.

Glancing over at Cable as he would make his pitch over to Inez. Monet doesn't know him that well beyond those occasional terrified glimpses she's had from the minds of thoset hat have seen into him and what his life has been like. And that's more than she can ever stomach.

Inez Temple has posed:
Rolling her eyes at Monet, Inez gives her a nod before looking to Cable. "You know she really doesn't fit your vibe at all." She backs a bit away and heads towards her trailer. "My supply may be small, but I'm happy to share."

She bends over after opening the door to reach in, grabbing two cans of beer from her mini fridge, and tosses one each in the direction of her guests before pulling out a third.

"So, I'm doing fine, my guns all work, I didn't get smashed by the Hulk a few weeks back, so we're all good." She opens the beer. "How about you?"

Cable has posed:
For someone with the last name 'Summers', he doesn't exactly seem to embrace Charles Xavier's dream, being far more pragmatic.

And a whole lot more inclined to blow things up to get his way. Like way, way more inclined.

glancing back over his shoulder towards Monet, Cable shrugs once more. "People can surprise you. She gets the job done and that what counts as far as I'm concerned," he points out quietly. Flight, super strength, telepathy and a fair bit of tactical accumen. It's not a bad package to be sure.

It's also a pretty battle-tested package at this point. That tends to happen pretty quickly around Cable too. Imagine that.

His reflexes are pretty good, but Cable doesn't even try to snag the tossed can, instead reaching out with his mind, a telekinetic field wrapping around the beer and bringing it flying straight to his hand. He does crack it open however.

"Good to hear. Not getting smashed, especially by big green mosnters, is definitely the better alternative," he agrees. "As for us? Spendin' most of the time hunting a corporate big wig turned self-help guru by the name of John Sublime. Big on self-improvement of human beings. 'Cept that improvement seems to involve kidnapping mutants and harvesting them for their body parts. Then surgically grafting them into his followers," he says flatly, just a hint of anger creeping into his words.

"Not the only threat around though, so if you're up for it might ask for your help sometime. Like I said, can always use an extra steady hand or two."

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would look over at Inez, "What sort of life is it you have that -almost- leads you to being smashed by the Hulk? you might want to seriously reconsider your course if that's an ongoing risk that you have." Apparently even M had things that would make her stop and stare and consider a bad idea. As Cable would go to elaborate over on what Inez could do, Monet would go to give an evaluatory assessment of her.

Waving a hand over at Inez in declining of the offer. "Thank you. And there's also some idioted bigot that's offering a so called mutant cure and vaccine. Attempts at backtracking the development of it and whom is funding it has gone slowly. They're making use of mercenaries and likely have support from the US government in development."

Inez Temple has posed:
Inez looks over Monet, and then shrugs. If Cable says she's good, she's good. "Yeah, well. Good thing her power ain't attitude."

She takes a long chug from the can as Cable details the issue with John Sublime, and wipes off her mouth with the back of her wrist once he is done. "Sounds like a real shitbag. I can punch a few holes in him if you want."

She shrugs to Money. "Don't shit on my job. I knew I was chasing down the Hulk, and I took the job. Paid really well, even if it was a bunch of untrustworthy government types that scared him off." She shrugs. "Got the money for it." She finishes off the can of beer, and tosses it expertly at the trash can ten feet away, bouncing it off the corner of the lid.

"You got my guns whenever you need them, hoss. You know that."

Cable has posed:
Aren't these two getting along great?

X-Force has never exactly been the family that the X-Men have, but then Cable is pretty okay with that. When he's out in the field he needs professionals who will do their job and not fret about hurting anyone's feelings. Given the choice between playing nice or getting the job done with hurt feelings, he is almost always going to choose to just get the job done and move on. Sometimes that's all you can ask for.

Of course, maybe Cable's slowing down a little. He might crack open that beer, but he certainly doesn't down it with the alacrity of Inez, not finishing until probably a dozen seconds after her.

Maybe he just wasn't that thristy. Or maybe it's bad form to drink and then teleport. Yeah, that's it.

"Fair enough. All I'm asking for really," he says with a nod in the blonde's direction. "And to make sure you weren't in anything over your head. Hate to find out after the fact, when it's too late to intervene, you know," he says quietly.

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Is that actual concern she hears over in his voice? Monet doesn't presume to know Cable that well. But the whole 'spontaneous come to check in on someone' is something that she hasn't seen him do before. So teh woman has that going for her. Which at least gives a little bit of interest to her.

"Very well. Have you considered that while it is your job, there are ways to get employment that pay on par with things that do not risk involving the Hulk? Nor anyone that is crazy enough to pitch a job that involves him?" She's -seen- him on a bad day. If not in person. She's seen what happens when he fights. That's something that terrifies her. Not that she'll ever admit it.

Inez Temple has posed:
"Well, you got it. And nope, only thing over my head is my Stetson." Inez reaches up to tap the hat again. "But I appreciate the concern." She leans back into the trailer again to retrieve another can of beer, straightening before she looks to Monet.

"First off, ain't no job I ever seen that pays on par with messing with the Hulk. Biggest score I ever got offered." She cracks the can open. "Second, I ain't too worried about him. He was all sweet and gentle when I met him." She grins at Monet, and proceeds to start draining that can, too.

Cable has posed:
That, it would seem, is that. At least in Cable's eyes. He came to make sure that Inez was still onboard should he need to call on her, to make sure that particular card is still in his deck.

Would he go after the Hulk? Probably. For money? That's less likely. While Nathan might work as a mercenary when it's called for, it's usually more about maintaining or furthering some cover he has established, or keeping his contacts in that particularly shadowy world up to date.

"Leave off Monet," Cable says drily. "Just like you, she's a big girl. She's good at what she does and if it comes to working together you can count on the fact that she's been tested," the soldier from the future says quietly. "We'll be in touch. Glad to see that you're still in one piece."

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would shrug over, "Very well. I hope that your next job that pays as well does not involve the risk of tangling with Doctor Banner's other." That's said fairly casually, even as she goes to offer ehr hand over to Inez.

"I hope that your skills aren't needed, but I'm glad to have them on hand if we need them."

Inez Temple has posed:
"Yeah, well. Find me a job that good, I don't much mind the risk." Inez takes Monet's hand and shakes it. "A pleasure."

She looks over towards Cablle, nodding. "You just give me a hollar if you need. Clearly you know how to find me." She nods her head back at her trailer. "Just tell me how big of a gun to bring."

Cable has posed:
Turning away from the trailer, Cable lifts a hand up in a vague sort of parting gesture, his reply as simple as it is probably expected. "That answer is always all of them," he counters.

The man does love his firepower, that much is certain. Though he can restrain himself when the mission calls for it. He prefers it when it doesn't. Not with the type of people he deals with.

"See you around Outlaw," he adds. Which pretty much seems to exhaust his social nicities. He is definitely a little on the direct side most of the time.

"Greymalkin, bodyslide by two," he says. Once more the air around him fizzles, blurs and just like that Cable is gone.
