The New Improved Super Soldier
Date of Scene: 16 September 2023
Location: Fort Bryon, Pennsylvania
Synopsis: Grifter anonymosoly sends Bucky a file on a Daemonite takeover of a military base. He hires Tynan and the three of them end the threat and gather information on a bigger conspiracy!
Cast of Characters: Cole Cash, James Barnes, Tynan Ireton

Cole Cash has posed:
A file had been sent to Bucky a few weeks ago. A project at Fort Bryon that spoke of a possible super soldier version that did not require a serum of any type. The man in charge was a Colonel by the name of Morty Bennett. His record showed that he was involved in some of the darker techs and adaption of alienware into the US Army.

Fort Bryon is an out of the way station, not really known for anything special. The perfect place to set up a Black Op like this. Security on station is tight, the gate guarded by both barricade and armed soldiers. Razor wired topped walls track along the boundries of the base, where armed patrols make the rounds at ten minute intervals.

A truck pulls up to the gate, spawing an inspection of the vehicle and its contents. All in all, a normal day outside. Inside, however...

Colonel Bennett stands in the parade field, looking at the six men and six women standing at parade rest. "Congratulations!" he says to them. "The twelve of you will be the first class of a new soldier that will be able to stand up to the so-called super heroes and will be given equipment and powers comparable to a full-sized platoon! When I call your name, please step up to the innoculation booth!"

A large container that is sealed sits on the edge of the parade field. It has one door that is opened, but it is impossible to see what is within."

James Barnes has posed:
Bucky really wishes people would stop trying to make super soldiers. How many times is he going to have to do this? Staking out some black site, planning an infiltration to put a stop to unethical and dangerous experiments. While Steve may be the exception to the rule, every other attempt to create the perfect soldier has led to something terrible happening.

Case in point: himself. The Winter Soldier has left a string of dead bodies across the seven continents (yes, even Antarctica -- but that's a story for another time) so his reputation precedes him. Often he is a lone assassin working from the shadows, but it wasn't uncommon for him to be paired with other assets in the field, and nowadays he has the awareness necessary to truly appreciate the value of teamwork. Which is why he'd reached out and made contact with Tynan through the Justice League Dark.

Said contact had been an offer of money, a GPS location, and a time, with scant few details included. Because Bucky himself had scant few details to include.

That had been earlier. Now Bucky stalks the perimeter from a distance, alone, loaded down with gear. Including a rocket launcher, which he hefts onto his shoulder. There's no communication over a secured network, no signal sent up. Just Bucky slotting the optical sight against his eye and ligning up the shot.

The trigger depresses, and seconds later a chunk of perimeter wall and fencing explodes, sending debris and dirt flying in the air.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Dark Caliber. A mercenary that Nettie taught magic to. Somebody that Nettie trusts...fairly well. And somebody whose able to operate with other military units in the feild with little training. Not to mention, she speaks fluent russian. Ty didn't get much of a mission briefing, but thats not much of a surprise. The woman did take a few days to scout the Fort. She has several levels of magic specifically for this time of op.

First was the spell to cloak to allow her to scout without being seen, along with a high grade sniper scope. She made several plans, and decided the sewer drains were the best. She snuck in the sewers the day prior. Keeping a few MREs hidden away, she waits for a signal while keeping a radar spell active. Suddenly she feels the sewer shake, and suddenly people running around.

Ty moves quickly through the sewers. The spell and her time down here has given her more then a little bit of knowledge of the area. Soon, the woman climbs up behind a warehouse, sticking to the shadows. The woman's radar spell keeps her alert of those around her as she starts to cast her cloaking spell. The Predator style cloak covers her as she watches the situration from the opposite end. The woman also understands soldiers very well. She knows that dispite everything thats going on, most soldiers are not going to jump, but instead go defensive in their zones. For now, waiting game to see what the zones are.

Cole Cash has posed:
The flash of flame, the streak of thr rocket, the solid hit and explosion that blows a hole in the wall. It's all to get the expectation that Bucky was probably aiming for. Immediately, soldiers are moving to their zones to defend, with a reactionary force racing towards the scene of the explosion.

As they are looking around for what happened, there's a sudden crack of a sniper rifle from somewhere behind Bucky sounds out and the bullet whizzes just past the super soldier, striking one of the soldiers coming out in the shoulder and sending him backwards and the others scrambling for cover behind the rubble.

"Give a little warning next time." Grifter rumbles over an open comm. "I was in the middle of having my coffee."

At the warehouse, Tynan can see the scramble of the soldiers as they take positions. But oddly, Colonel Bennett is not fleeing. "We're going to have to speed this up! Release the cargo!"

Opening the container, what was inside is now fully visible. Twelve seven foot tall reptelian aliens. They have one large set of arms on the shoulders and then a smaller set of arms in their midsection.

They are bipebal in standing, slightly hunched, with a large tails that swing behind them. As the soldiers see them, one of the creatures rushes the first soldier called up, and suddenly... leaps inside her, taking her over!

The other soldiers start to panic, preparing to flee for their lives as they find out the so-called super soldier program is actually an alien takeover!

James Barnes has posed:
There is no response to Grifter over the comms, which is probably not surprising. Bucky is taciturn at the best of times, and when he's laser-focused on a mission as he is now, that downgrades significantly to monosyllabic unless absolutely necessary. It's a recession of sorts, back to his days as the Winter Soldier, when talking was not a required component of his deployments.

Off he goes at a run, right towards danger. This coincides with the appearance of the aliens, though he's at a far enough distance that even his excellent sniper vision can't see the full details of the alien takeover that happens on base. But he can tell something has happened, and those seven foot tall aliens do stand out amidst the crowd, so he zeroes in on them.

Assuming none of the soldiers try to get in his way, at least. Having already discarded the used rocket launcher, he pulls an SMG from under his jacket and begins to unload on the nearest of the aliens, his aim to spray them with bullets as he closes the distance between them.

It's worth noting that while he isn't wearing the mask and goggles of Winter Soldier fame, he does have a scarf wrapped around the lower half of his face to conceal his identity. Which is also why his metal arm is hidden under his jacket and gloves. No need to tie this back to Bucky Barnes.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty watches things for a moment. No need to get active yet. She's found a good dead spot to watch things. The woman takes a long moment to think back to everything she's learned in the last 2 years of magical training. This includes training with a succubus from Hell, and the various beings who can possess beings. The woman shakes her head a little bit as she tries to pin on one trait. Still first rule, learn your opponent, learn their strengthes.

The woman takes a moment to mark the important people. Squad leaders, generals, officers. All of them marked. The beasts, marked. The woman takes her winter soldier style mask, and slides it over her mouth. Its almost time. For now, she's staying hidden. The woman thinks to what she brought to the party. This might be a little bit of fun. Just remember, this is a job, and she needs to stay professional about it.

Cole Cash has posed:
The soldiers are confused, outright. They had no idea that the container was full of aliens. Which makes them just stunned enough that Bucky can run by them. By now, Grifter can tell by the screams that apparently the cat is out of the bag. He hits his comm switch.

"They're called Daemonites. When they possess someone, can be as strong as a super soldier. Should know, I was one." he grunts. "Keep them from possessing people, they have a short life in Earth's atmo!" He hops down from his perch and starts to move forward, sticking with his rifle, he'll find someplace new to set up and fire.

With Bucky rushing the field, the Colonel himself leaps high into the air and lands in front of the OG Second Gen Super-Soldier. "Don't know who you are, but you're in for a world of hurt, human!" And with that, he takes a hard swing at Bucky, the strength behind it enough to smash in the side of a truck.

The first soldier possessed is looking around, getting used to her body and sniffs the air. Something smells off... and she finds herself looking towards Tynan's direction, but it's not obvious if she has spotted the merc or not.

The rest of the Daemonites are going after their hosts - as one is about to leap on their target, another crack of a rifle and the Daemonite's head rocks back, brained with a bullet as it falls back on the ground.

James Barnes has posed:
That he's running faster than a normal human should probably cause some suspicion, but Bucky is indeed still human. He acknowledges the information Grifter feeds him with a "Copy," over comms, the first time he's spoken on them so far, and then he's coming to an abrupt stop when the Colonel drops down in front of him.

The swing he sees coming, so he dodges out of the way with a backstep, but then he's coming right back into the Colonel's personal space to try to sweep his feet out from underneath him.

He brings the comms silence again to ask, quickly, "How do we get them out?" as he empties the rest of the SMG's clip towards the aliens who haven't yet possessed anyone. It seems he's more than a little hesitant to use his weapons on any human bodies, given that they might be innocent people with an unwanted passenger.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty doesn't have any physical enhancements, or special tricks to work with. Just training, and hard work. When the daemonite looks over at Ty, she doesn't even hesitate. A portal behind her opens up, and she pulls out an assault rifle. She shoulders it, and draws a small rune on the rifle. The woman pulls the trigger, letting out a small controlled burst as she lets the cloak go.

"Copy.", she comms. The woman is on the network. The woman takes a small block of preset C4, and sets it next to her as she retreats back. She lets out a few more controlled bursts. The rune? It pushes the Assault rifle a level higher. It hits a bit harder, faster, but the gun can't take the abuse for long. Right now, its hitting wih the force of a sniper rifle, while firing like a machine gun.

For now, Ty is trying to isolate the one that spotted her. No need to fight an army when you can go one on one...or a dirty one or one...

Cole Cash has posed:
"If Voodoo was here, she could pull it out. Strong telepathy. Kill the host. Get an old priest and a new priest. Actually, I don't know if that would work." Grifter admits.

When Ty's shot tears into the Daemonite, it falls to the ground, it's arm blown off. But just as quickly as it went down, it's moving to rise again. "Head shots." Grifter reports. "They can heal anything else."

The Daemonite that was hit starts to move towards Tynan, stalking the woman, attempting to seek her out so that he may possess her, because she's a much more tasty target than the other soldiers running for cover.

Colonel Bennett misses with his swing and as he is taken to the ground, he attempts to bring his legs around Bucky's arm to wrestle him over and drag him to the ground. "You're ruining the experiment." he snarls again.

James Barnes has posed:
So, as far as Bucky can see it, there's no real way to save these people right now. That's a problem.

He slips out of Bennett's grasp before he can be taken to the ground, silently thanking his recent training with Janet for the refresher on that particular skill. Even super soldiers need to keep up a regimen so that their skills don't suffer, after all.

Seeing no other option, Bucky's fist -- the metal one, not the flesh one -- pulls back so that he can try and slam it down on the Colonel's head. Maybe it's with the hope that a concussion might knock the alien out of him. Or just knock the alien out, period.

But he's not focused on the Colonel alone. He's trying to disengage so that he can make for the other Daemonites before they jump into anyone, and in the meantime he keeps firing bullets in their direction. It might just be peppering them lightly, given their apparent resistance, but hopefully it will at least keep their attention on him rather than any potential victims.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty keeps the sustained fire on the daemonite. Keeping coming towards the snack. She keeps luring the alien towards her, keeping an eye on the C4. Just a little more. Just a little bit...Just a tiny...Ah, there! HOLD for the birdie! She hits the remote detonator, trigger the C4. Hopefully the explosion takes the alien by surprise.

If it works, she quickly rushes in, and does a quick burst to the alien's head, before moving into a shooter's stance, and attempts to shoot another alien in the leg. The woman starts to backpeddle again. It might not be the fastest route, but its the safer route. The woman is trying to pick them off at a time, keeping herself from getting rushed. Just in case though, the woman has a claymore mine she set up by the sewer hole.

Cole Cash has posed:
Colonel Bennett goes down, the strike on his head would have been powerful enough to collapse his skull were he not Daemonite possessed. As he hits the ground, he's knocked out and Bucky will see that the Daemonite is abanonding the body, under the assumption that Bucky was about to double-tap the Colonel. So the gamble worked?

The bullets are peppering the remaining Daemonites, drawing their attention to Bucky. "Sorry about that, rifle jammed." Grifter reports, because he totally forgot to pose what he was doing. Once he's cleared the rifle and reloaded, he fires off another shot, striking a Daemonite trying to sneak up on Bucky in the back of the head, taking it down. The shell is kicked out, a fresh one loaded.

Tynan's explosion draws the attention of the Daemonites near her, one knocked to the ground, making it easy pickings for the merc to take out. As another Daemonite is taken down, they are trying their best to run, but the soldiers who did not know of this plan are finally starting to rally to try to help the two running amuck in their base.

James Barnes has posed:
The soldiers are turning to help them rather than hinder them. Good. Bucky does indeed pull out a pistol from one of the many holsters, hidden or non, on his body, but it's not the Colonel who's going to end up with bullets in his head, it's the Daemonite that emerges from him. At least that's what Bucky aims the gun to do, squeezing the trigger twice in quick succession.

Then he goes from 0 to a full-out sprint in the space of a heartbeat, after the aliens who are trying to run away. Both Tynan and, further away, Grifter, are assumed to be handling their own targets just fine, while Bucky has his eye on the one leading the escape attempt. With just his pistol now, he lines up the shot...

And fires. Once again he's aiming for the head, relying on his exceptional aim and steady hand to land the final hits necessary to put this alien down.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty hears the Assault rifle click empty. She shakes her head. Normally she's better then that, but she's not normally fighting aliens on this level. She watches as the Winter Soldier goes after one. She tosses the assault rifle, and makes another portal, pulling out a high level sniper rifle. She's not admitting how much pain she's in to pull that out, but for now, she's gonna make it worth it. This is a single shot level action. And its tailored pretty much in the young woman's favor.

Ty pulls out a small box with a jolly roger on it. Her mother gives her a small present once in a while. This is one of them. A H.E.A.P. round, tailored for sniping. She loads it up, and takes aim at the one thats following while Bucky handles the lead. She takes a deep breath, before letting it out slowly. She gently pulls the trigger, and sends the bullet. If it hits, it'll dig in a little bit before the casing explodes. High explosive armor piercing round. Ty makes a note to write that in the expense report. Even if it was a gift from her mother, she's still gonna charge for the use of the round! "Overwatch, report clear?"

Cole Cash has posed:
The shots from Bucky ring true, taking down the Daemonites in his path. They try to rally to rush him, but instead, they find themselves being gunned down. A last Daemonite trying to get away was about to get over the wall when its head explodes, a victim of Tynan's HEAP round as it falls back from the wall and to the ground.

"Clear." Grifter announces in response to Tynan. "And this has been fun and all, we'll grab a beer sometime, but I'm going to head out because I really don't find talking to the authorities fun. Later, taters." With that, Cole pulls up his rifle and starts to head to his transport out.

James Barnes has posed:
"Good work," comes Bucky's voice over the comms. He's going to be the one to stay back and help straighten this all out, so he nods once over to Tynan and with a quick gesture of his hand motions for her to head out as well.

The rest of the money owed will be wired and-or dropped off in non-sequential bills (depending on one's preference) within the next 24 hours. Whether or not Bucky is done answering questions, which he presumes will involve a period of being detained, is of no consequence; he arranges these things in advance, just to be certain. It's a different kind of not leaving any loose ends than he would have done as the Winter Soldier, that's for sure.

He approaches the Colonel still laying prone on the ground and puts his hands on his hips, waiting for him to come around. Might as well get this out of the way.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty nods her head to Bucky a bit, before making her own rifle dissappear. Its no wonder she doesn't openly carry her weapons if she can pull them out. The woman steps back a few steps before she goes predator once more, making it seem like she's gone invisable. She heads back out the way she got in. And the woman grabs her claymore mine as she goes. Hopefully she's able to ghost her way out of the fort, rather then deal with a mad Nettie having to pick her up from the local prison. Much easier to get tea when she gets away clean then deal with a mad Nettie...

Cole Cash has posed:
Colonel Bennett groans, starting to slowly come about, even with a good sized bruise on his forehead. When he looks up and sees a figure standing above him, he reaches for a sidearm that is no longer in its holster and he frowns. "What the hell is this?" he asks in a half-order, half-demand.

"This is a military installation and you're in for a world of hurt if you don't surrender peacefully." Colonel Bennett is clearly confused and has no situational awarenesss, just knowing what he woke up into.

James Barnes has posed:
Just as Bucky expected. He allows one slightly heavier-than-normal exhale, no it isn't a sigh, and then pulls down the scarf obscuring his face. "I'm James Barnes, I'm with SHIELD. You should speak with your men about what just happened here before this gets any more complicated," he suggests.

Though he expects it to get complicated anyway. Still, he's going to deal with it, one way or the other.

Cole Cash has posed:
"What do you mean what just happened? This isn't the Teaneck Armory? I was told that there was a project there I needed to look into." Colonel Bennett mutters and starts to get to his feet. He hasn't yet connected the dots on James Barnes. "I need to speak with my troops." Disorientedly, he starts to walk away, leaving the way clear for Bucky to leave - and at least a location to look into.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty makes it back to her motorcycle pretty quickly. She needs a shower, and a pint. The woman looks over her superleggera before pulling out a military grade tablet from her subspace. She looks at her account. The woman is happy as the balance as gone up. Yeah, she's gonna party after the shower. Of course, she knows she's gonna have to make a possible report, or not. She didn't get a supernatural vibe from those beings...For now, she's waiting and seeing. The woman drives off.

James Barnes has posed:
Far be it for Bucky to turn down the invitation to leave that is so nicely presented to him. He waits until the Colonel is on his feet and moving away, back turned, to simply stalk back out of the base the way he came: right through the big hole he blew in it.
