Cast of Characters: Patty Sloan, Jay Guthrie, Samuel Guthrie

Patty Sloan has posed:
Its been a long day. While Patty is thrilled to be at school boy can school get boring! Still The day droned on until finally her last class ended. Today that class was dance. Once Dance class was done, Patty went to her dorm and got changed. Then she was off on her afternoon routine.

The sun is listing lazily to the west as the early spring day is actually quite warm. There is a gentle breeze though, keeping things just nice. Patty is wearing a pair of old gym shorts and an old high school shirt as she makes her way to the lake. She takes off running as is her daily routine. A run around the lake. Its quite the hike around it, Definitely a solid workout for a wannabe SHIELD Agent. She keeps going, pushing herself to move at a steady pace so as not to fully exhaust herself before getting around the lake.

Jay Guthrie has posed:
What a gorgeous day to be outside! Even the usually introverted Jay whose skin is so pale it could be studied by scientists has decided to get out in the sun. The first sign of him to arrive is the sound of his great wings flapping lazily in the air. He likes to fly when its warm because the rising warm air creates currents to drift on. The second thing to arrive is his shadow, making slow, lazy circles around the scenic lake. Finally Jay himself comes into view as he lands lightly on the grass.

He is wearing an old Dire Straits T-shirt with the arms cut off and long slits cut down the back for his wings to fit through. The rest of his "ensemble" is just as hastily thrown together: a pair of old, faded camo pants and a pair of beat-up black combat boots. He's also carrying a book.

The young flyer has a pensive expression on his face. But nothing new there. He was issued it at birth and it was reinforced by a life that already has seen more than its fair share of tragedy. But then he notices movement. It's Patty jogging around the lake. That's enough to break the moody expression. Something that is maybe a distant cousin of a smile crosses his lips. He raises a hand as the jogger gets closer. "Hey, Patty," he says. He nervously runs one hand through his messy, wind-tussled hair as though suddenly self-conscious about how he looks. "Um, how...how's it goin'?"

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty notes the other flyer and gives a wave to him. She ducks off the trail in the grass clearing and comes running up to Jay. Raising a finger, she grabs a water bottle from her pocket. Taking a deep breath, she downs some of the water before capping it and putting it back in her pocket.

"Hey Jay! Hows it going?" She asks as she jogs in place a little bit. She herself hasn't been flying today. She should really be trying to fly a little more but she is building her endurance. She stretches her wings and puts her hands on her head. "I am just doing my daily run. I gotta do this so I am ready to try to join SHIELD when the time comes. I've been doing my best to get in better shape. I really need to practice flying though. Maybe after I am done my run around the lake."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
"Oh. OH," says Jay. His eyebrows go up and concern knits across his features. He wears his emotions on the outside, this one. "Am I...am I disturbing your, um, thing? I don't wanna mess up your vibe or nothin'." He speaks with a deep, back-woods Kentucky accent that some find soothing and some find irritating.

He peers around the immediate area self-consciously. "I was just gonna relax a bit. The, um, mansion was feelin' stuffy to me." He stops his fidgeting and looks at Patty more direction. He gestures in her direction with a flick of his chin. "You gonna join SHIELD? That's so sick. Sounds dangerous and fun. I could never...I could never do nothin' like that."

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty raises a hand and shakes her head. "OH no no. Its cool I can take a break. Just don't wanna cool down just yet so I'm gonna keep moving." She laughs a little as she keeps herself moving. "You aren't messin up my vibe. Its a nice day and right now I am just listening to nature as I run. Eventually I wanna get some headphones for my phone so I can use that to listen to some music as I go you know?" She grins.

"Hey I understand that. Definitely a good chance for some fresh air today." She smiles bright. "I just can't believe how nice it is out here today. I wouldn't expect a day like this until like May or something."

Then at the mention of SHIELD she nods, "Well the person I spoke to about it who sold me on it, She said that SHIELD has a lot of different areas where a person can fit in. Each one is helping people in a different way. The path I wanna go is as a field agent. I want to be out and in the field, helping people and dealing with problems." She smiles a little. "You can do anything you set your mind to. Just gotta motivate yourself."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
The winged young man's eyes glitter. "Wow, a field agent. So sick. That must be hard work. But I bet you're gonna be great at it, Patty. SHIELD ain't got no use for someone like me. I like to play guitar and piano and sing and write." He shrugs, and his body language seems as though he feel that he just described the most useless skills in the world." He quirks an actual, honest grin -- a rare expression for him. "Prolly end up workin' at 7-11 or somethin'." He lets out a small, brief laugh. "I could get you free Slurpees if I do." He emerald eyes scan Patty to see if he's boring her. Jay is so bad at talking to girls. So. Bad. He clears his throat.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles a little. "Don't sell yourself short. You are learning a lot here at the school. Plus you are an artist! You can write songs. You have a skill that can sway the hearts of people all around us. Think about it. Music turns the heart. With your words you can make a huge difference in the world. You can go as far as you want with it. Heck! This other guy who is going to probably be coming here to school, He has been busking on the streets of New York City for a while. You and him can collaborate and come up with songs and stuff."

Patty smiles a little bit. "Hey maybe I can help you all find gigs or something. I've never done that before but it would be fun to try! Imagine, performing your songs live in front of an audience and maybe you can get a paid gig right?" She grins happily.

Jay Guthrie has posed:
Jay finds Patty's optimism a bit infectious right now, it would seem. First the time in who even /knows/ how long, a full, unmitigated smile blooms over his features. It looks good on him. Too bad he doesn't do it enough. "It's hard for my messed up brain to think like that," he confesses. "Yer really generous 'n stuff." Jay peers off at the rippling water for a few beats. "A paid gig, huh?" He takes in a deep breath and exhales. "You think that's really possible?" he inquires as he shifts his gaze back to Patty.

Patty Sloan has posed:
"I do think its possible. You have what it takes to make a difference in the world in your own way. But it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what you think. Do you think you could do it?" Patty smiles and flutters her wings, lifting off the ground and just hovering for a few minutes. "Needed to get off my feet for a few minutes. Flying is cheating but it is fun!" She giggles. "I think you could get a paid gig though. Honestly what you need is some open mic nights and stuff. Get people to hear your songs. Make some waves. You've got the Charisma to get people's attention. You just gotta use it!"

Jay Guthrie has posed:
An insightful observer might note that Jay /wants/ to say yes, he believes he could do it. But for all his misanthropic, introverted tendencies the boy just doesn't like to lie. And the truth is he is /not/ sure. But he gives Patty a grateful smile. It's a smile that is tinged with something else, though, something pessimistic and painful.

"I think I shall give it a try. I fly into the city sometimes when I need guitar strings or stuff. Maybe I should hit some open mic nights. I mean why not."

"Would you maybe wanna go wi-with me sometime? Maybe? Get somethin' to eat and listen t'music and poetry at a coffee house? Maybe for a, um, for a um..." His cheeks and ears grow as red as his blazing orange hair. "...for a date maybe?" He frowns suddenly. "Fuck. I mean, I don't even know if you date or not. Or maybe you already got a boyfriend or something. I didn't mean no disrespect." The Titanic had nothing on this disaster as Jay trips all over his words. What a far cry from the cool, detached face he wears in public.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty looks at Jay and smiles softly to him. "I would love to go but as friends. I'm actually a lesbian." She blushes brightly. "I am more than happy to go and support you though!" She grins brightly.

"I haven't gotten to date anyone like ever. In school I was bullied pretty hard so I just didn't have the confidence to do anything. Even now, I struggle with my confidence. I wouldn't make a good singer or anything because I don't think I could actually get up in front of anyone. That is something I really don't think I will have to do when I actually join SHIELD. Getting up in front of people and talking or singing? That would be freaky for me. When I had to do the whole public speaking thing in high school, I would get picked on really hard for trying so I really didn't try."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
It would be disingenuous to say that Jay doesn't look more than a bit disappointed by this unexpected turn of events. His eyes open wide. "Oh. OH! A-alright, I'm sorry. I didn't mean nothin' by all that." He runs his hand back through his hair. Then he lets out a nervous, relieved laugh. "To be honest, I-I'm kinda glad that's over. I been fretting about wantin' to ask you out for a while now and I'm kinda glad its behind me."

He holds out a fist. "As friends then," he says genuinely as his smile returns. "Besides, if you become my manager we shouldn't be doin' no datin' anyway, right?" His eyes glitter with good-natured energy.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty winces, "I'm sorry. Its okay. No worries." She smiles and nods, "Hey I am happy to be good friends with ya. I definitely look forward to helping you out. Who knows, maybe we both will find girlfriends as we go right?" She smiles and blushes a little bit. "I was told I need to go to the Themysciran Embassy and talk to the Amazons about some training. I'd be afraid I'd find them all hot!" She laughs and thinks about that a little more.

"As Friends." She gives a warm smile to Jay. "Yeah It would be really awkward if we were dating and I was a manager type." Happily she lands and comes to a stop from her jogging. "Things are definitely going to be cool though!"

Jay Guthrie has posed:
Although Jay was definitely raised by his mama to be polite around girls, when Patty mentions the Themysciran Embassy Jay can't help but flush a bit. His neck and cheeks redden more than a little. "Yeah, I might be a bit distracted if I went there. A bunch of women in armor who are all badasses."

The six-foot-tall winged boy drops into a squatting position, which causes the bottoms of his wings to pile up a bit on the grass behind him. "At them open mic nights, do people, um, you know, sing like original songs or cover songs? What's it like at one? Do you gotta pay money to sing?" This backwoods country boy is going to get eaten /alive/ in New York City.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles and blushes herself. "I'd probably ask for training and get my butt handed to me by them." She laughs a little bit. "It would be fun to learn though." She shakes her head and looks down. "I totally have a crush on Wonder Woman." She laughs.

"Okay, Open Mic nights, at least where I am from, they are free to perform poetry or sing at. I think they prefer you do your own songs as opposed to covers. Though if you have something to bring to a cover song, I think you could perform a cover song." She smiles "It all depends what type of business it is. If you are going to perform at a coffee house, you will likely be seeing more poets like beat poets and stuff. Count on more acoustic style sets. If it takes place at a club, Its going to be mostly bands performing."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
The glitter in Jay's eyes when Patty confesses her crush on Wonder Woman definitely indicates that he agrees. "I'll be your wing man if Wonder Woman ever comes 'round here, 'kay?" He once again holds out a fist to seal the deal. He seems to like fist bumps this one.

When Patty starts describing what open mic nights are like, Jay goes completely still and silent, /locked/ on her words like he is at the feet of the Buddha or something. His eyes are wide with wonder as he absorbs every word. "Okay, okay, well I do a lot of covers. I also have started writin' my own stuff lately. I even started writin' some poems t'try and get ready for Rogue's poetry class."

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty fist bumps Jay and smiles, "She is definitely out of my age range but she is still hot! I don't know if I wanna date her or get beauty tips from her. Hell I think she was around in World War II."

She smiles and nods. "Okay so lets start putting your poetry to music. Thats the start of a song right? Or at least a beat poem. It would be a lot of fun though." She blinks, "Oh Right. I forgot that she has that. I'm nervous cause I'm afraid I'll be asked to speak in front of the group. I might need to sign up for the class anyway. It could be fun?" She looks nervous suddenly.

Jay Guthrie has posed:
Jay is currently relaxed in a squatting position in the grass with the bottom of his wings curled up behind him. He is absorbed in an excited conversation with Patty. It must be something good because anyone who knows Jay knows he doesn't do excited.

"Aw, c'mon, girl, you wanna be a SHIELD field agent where they gonna be shootin' at you and you can't get up and talk in a poetry class. You /got/ this."

"Yeah that's usually how I start a song is I write it as a poem first. Then I hum for a good long bit tryin' t'find a tune I like," he blurts out. It's clear that Jay has grown really comfortable being able to talk to Patty.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty laughs. She is dressed in workout attire and is currently standing by Jay and just kinda pacing a bit. Her wings are perked up as she is quite excited to be talking about something fun.

"I've had guns pointed at me. At least I can do something about the gunmen I can't blast an audience with wind to knock them over. Well... I actually could but I don't think that would go over well." She blushes. "Okay Okay. I will try. I need to write some sort of poetry. I've not written poetry since grade school." She laughs.

"Oh yeah? Sounds like you've got a solid process really. If that works for you I say go all out. Find a place that gives you inspiration and go for it. I think you've got what it takes."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie is walking along the shoreline. He is actually in his NYPD uniform, having worked an earlier shift this morning. After flying back home he landed near the lake to walk the rest of the way in. Seeing two familiar people, he will offer a smile and "Hey guys." as he walks up.

Jay Guthrie has posed:
"I'm totally down for helpin' with poetry class studyin' and stuff if you join the class," Jay says. How very, very different he seems from the usual introverted, self-conscious Jay. One might daresay that right at this moment he looks...happy.

He hears his brother's voice and he rises to his full height and turns around. He sees that Sam is wearing his uniform and Jay blurts out, "Shit, it's five oh! Hide me!" He ducks behind Patty, which looks quite absurd a 6-foot tall guy with huge wings hiding behind Patty's petite 5'6" frame. "You'll never take me alive, cop!" Is Jay actually being goofy and silly today? Is he high?

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles and nods. "I gotcha. I will be there. I have a few ideas for possible poems. I remember a few types of poem. I really liked shaped poems. THose always intrigued me." She grins. "Just taking a words and making a picture with them? Maybe I can try doing something like that?"

Then Jay ducks behind her. She looks at Sam and laughs a little bit. "Hiya Sam." She laughs about the Five-oh comment. She extends her wings outward but that don't help in the hiding given her wings are transluscent. "I didn't see anyone anywhere! Really!"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie chuckles and says "If Ah took you in Ah would have paperwork for weeks and that's just on the stuff Ah know ya did, not counting the stuff Paige or Melody would tell on yu for." He smiles a bit and says "You two joining the poetry class?" having caught the last bit of their conversation.

Jay Guthrie has posed:
The tall, winged boy steps out from behind Patty. She was doing a terrible job of hiding him anyway. Patty's a terrible hider.

"I'm more innocent than a baptized baby, bro," Jay informs his brother solemnly. "Just don't check my backpack, 'specially after I get back from visitin' back home. That baggy ain't even mine!"

Jay moves closer to give his brother an elbow nudge to the shoulder. That's what passes as Guthrie Brother affection. "Yeah, Rogue is holdin' a poetry class. I'm really lookin' forward to it. It's better than a stupid math class or somethin'."

Patty Sloan has posed:
"Yeah Jay was talking me into joining it. I'm not really a poet type. I am just worried I am going to have to read my poems or something. That would be a nightmare." Patty comments as she lets her wings droop back down into their rest position. "I was doing some running around the lake. Your girlfriend got me wanting to join SHIELD. I've been training every day to get ready to try to get in. I kinda wanna become a field agent." She smiles bright as she thinks about it. "Even got to try shooting for once." She blushes a little bit. "Probably best not to talk about that. Still feeling bad about that first shot." She winces and shudders.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit "Yea Izzy got called away, but if you need help Ah can help and know a few folks Ah can talk to for ya." He doesn't grab Jay and nuggie him even though it is tempting. "Oh if Ah was going to bust ya about the baggie Ah would just call Ma."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
Jay snorts. "You think ma doesn't know? I get my baggies from Uncle Luke, for gods sake. Plus it's basically not even illegal anymore." He shrugs.

He looks excitedly to Patty. "Yeah, having a cop for a friend can't hurt your chances applying to SHIELD, right?" He looks back to his bro. "She's okay with getting shot at, but not at reading poetry in class." Jay rubs his hands back and forth together. "I can't wait to see her kick ass in front of the class with some dope poems!"

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles, "I might take you up on that. I need to get better at shooting for one. I can't count on dumb luck in the field. And that first shot was definitely dumb luck." She snickers. "I need to get better at using my powers too. I've been a lot more liberal with using them of late but I really need find my limits in the Danger Room eventually." She smiles. "Then of course I need to learn more physical combat. I was training with Izzy a bit with that. I'm considering going to the Themysciran Embassy and asking them them for a lesson or two." She smirks.

Then she looks at Jay and nods. "Yeah Yeah. I just am nervous about public speaking." She laughs. "At least getting shot at, I don't need to worry about someone critiquing me after I kick their butt." She laughs a bit.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles "Reminds me of Rahne a bit that way. She did not like being the center of attention." Sam nods to Patty. "Ah want through the police academy, but will admit was easier for me. Only a few folks on the force know Ah am a mutant, and as for hand to hand we have some really good teachers here for that too? Maybe try Betsy."

Jay Guthrie has posed:
Jay stretches a bit and peers at the dimming horizon. "Guys, I'm gonna get back to my room. Got some crap to get done before classes tomorrow. And I'm kinda excited to start putting my original songs in order now that I officially have the dopest manager in the biz." He nudges Patty's shoulder with his elbow.

"Night, bro. Be safe out there," he adds. Despite his aloofness, Jay really does care about his brother's safety.

Then the young man pushes up with his mutant-enhanced strength and rockets into the air with surprising force before his wings spread wide and take over. He flies in the direction of the mansion, where he will enter his room through his unlocked window. Doors are for quitters.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty blushes and snickers a little bit as she gets talked up as a manager. "I will do my very best. Never been a manager before but I will do my research and see what we can do." She gives a wave to Jay. "Hey you have a good night. I will work on some sort of poems to appease Rogue at the class." She laughs a little bit.

She turns back to Sam and smiles to him. "This is true. I will talk to Betsy about it. I've been meaning to talk to Scott about some lessons too. Somehow I don't have any sort of self defense classes this term. So I've been trying to learn from anyone I can."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie hmmms "Might be planned for some in danger room. or wanting to get with you and see where you're at to see how ould be bs t teach yea. So Josh.. err Jay got you to be his manager?"

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty nods and then smiles and nods. "Yes I kinda offered. I think he's got what it takes to be a professional Musician. Plus there is another potential musician going to be coming to school. There is band potential. I am going to see about some open mic nights and stuff. I think I can do it!" She smiles happily.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles a bit Au know Ah keep telling you to talk to this or that person. But if ya catch Allison about she might have some advice for ya.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles, "I've not heard that name before. So I will keep an eye out for Allison." She takes a deep breath as she looks out across the lake. "I think I might fly back to the mansion. I got cooled down from my run and now I don't feel like finishing it. I will resume tomorrow and keep going after that. I know I really shouldn't skip the rest of today but hey, Its not like I am currently an Agent or anything!" She laughs.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles " You may know her as Dazzler, and if you want a good work out try running out then flying back works both your legs and wings and will build stamina for both." He nods a bit "Have a good one, ah am n no big hurry so going to walk in?"

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty smiles back to Sam. "I think I heard that name before." She listens to the workout advice. "I think I will try that. I know I need to train my back muscles a bit more for flying. I just haven't used my wings as much as I wished I could. So that would be really useful." She smiles bright. "Thanks a bunch, Sam. I will see you around! Have a good one okay?"
