Jay, formerly Joshua, is a member of the Guthrie family. The recent tragic death of his girlfriend has left him shaken and disassociated. At the insistence of his mother, he has been enrolled at Xavier's. A mutant with the power of flight through his large red wings and a potent healing factor, he's a powerful and loyal ally to his friends. When he isn't attending class or training, he can be found escaping into his music.

Timeline:
* 2003: Joshua Guthrie is born to Thomas Guthrie and Lucinda Guthrie in Cumberland Kentucky. Sam and Paige as older siblings.
* 2000-2009: Joshua's other six brother and sisters are born.
* 2012: Thomas Guthrie's health starts to decline.
* 2014: Thomas Guthrie dies from what appears to be Black Lung.
* 2015: Joshua's older brother, Sam, steps up, and starts working at the Coal Mine, powers trigger, gets tricked into working for Donald Pierce, and ends up joining the New Mutants
* 2019: Joshua is apparently killed by Chester Cabot. Joshua's girlfriend, Julia Cabot, drowns herself with Joshua's body. Joshua's healing factors engages. He is tragically unable to revive Julia.
* 2020: Joshua drops out of High School. He spends a year failing to commit suicide, unable to overcome his healing factor.
* 2021: Lucinda Guthrie enrolls Joshua in Xavier's School for the Gifted. Joshua changes his name to Jay for a fresh start.

Personality

Empathetic:
Jay is able to relate to others through his own emotional pain. Often he finds listening to others to be a distraction from his own trauma, and he regularly acts as an impartial listener.

Family and Friends First:
Jay is a Guthrie. Similar to Sam, he has a heart of gold, and his blood and adopted family come first. He's more than willing to suffer for those he cares about.

Withdrawn:
Jay has experienced a legitimate 'Romeo and Juliet' level tragedy with the death of his girlfriend Julia. He is still in the process of recovering from that trauma. He tends to retreat into his music.

Enhanced Hearing:
Icarus is capable perceiving sounds well beyond normal human ranges. As an example, Icarus can perceive the echolocation of bats and the infrasonic calls of elephants. This ability does not increase the range of Icarus's hearing, just the hertz range of what he can perceive.

Enhanced Strength:
Jay possesses the ability to lift and carry upwards of five hundred pounds.

Healing Factor:
Jay heals hundreds of times faster than the average human and can survive almost any injury, including direct damage to his internal organs. The only injury (unknown to himself) that he cannot heal is the amputation of his wings. His wings are the source of his healing factor via natural regenerative enzymes they secret into his bloodstream.

Natural Flight:
Icarus has pair of fully feathered red wings. Possessing a lightweight flexible skeleton structure, he can fold his wings against the back of his body and legs, maintaining a minimum profile beneath his clothes. He is able to fly nonstop for approximately half a day and reach a height of ten thousand feet.

Superhuman Durability:
While not invulnerable, Jay is extremely resistant to blunt force trauma, allowing him to survive falls from great heights and collide into opponents without receiving injury.

Superhuman Stamina:
Jay's body produces fewer fatigue toxins than normal human beings. He can operate at peak capacity for several hours before he is impaired.

Vocal Manipulation:
Icarus is capable of producing any sound he can imagine or perceive via a set of enhanced vocals cords. Mundanely, this power makes Jay an extremely talented singer and provides him with the ability to mimic opponents for small tactical advantages. Applied with greater intention, Icarus is capable of soothing beasts and hypnotizing some individuals. This is not a form of mind control, but the power of suggestion. In practice, its useful for calming hostilities and other subtle manipulations. Beyond the parlor trick of shattering a drinking glass, Icarus's voice is not capable of physical damaging anyone, though a high pitch scream can disorient meta-humans with enhanced senses.

Musician:
Jay is a talented musician and has a high degree of proficiency with guitars and pianos. Without applying his powers, he is a fantastic singer. With his powers, his singing aptitude is legendary, both in original works or in the perfect mimicry of past music legends.

Rural:
Jay grew up on the Guthrie Farm and has been exposed to a variety of agricultural and mining related skills during his childhood. Further, after Paige and Sam moved out of the house, he became the oldest sibling and assisted his mother as a caregiver for the family. As a result, Jay has a number of practical skills from cooking to basic mechanics. He's no tradesman, but he's certainly handy.

Shaken:
Jay is recovering from recent traumatic events in his life. This leaves him more emotionally vulnerable when under high levels of stress. Telepaths and other beings with the ability to manipulate emotions can wield his trauma against him to great effect.

Wing Amputation:
Jay's wings are the source of his flight and healing factor. Their removal significantly reduces capabilities, and he is not able to restore them without outside intervention.
