Cast of Characters: Ruth Aldine, Kitty Pryde, Paige Guthrie, Gabby Kinney, Henry McCoy

Ruth Aldine has posed:
When it comes to what the school can afford, most can say that almost everyone who lives within the walls want for nothing. This includes outdoor activities and things to do that relax the mind from tiring times. Like school work.

Game rooms are outfitted with full-blown pool tables and quite possibly the latest consoles to hit the market, top of the line soda machines with the most requested flavors on deck. Fully stocked kitchen and library that has floor to ceiling books, comfy chairs and a corner nook that has the option to become a pillow fort.

And a boathouse that sits close to Breakstone Lake.

To ensure the safety of those who decide to travel along the lake for a bit of peace, almost all the boats were in mint condition. Surely there had to be someone who provided daily maintenance, fuel, and cleanliness to the boats and supplies, not to mention checking the life vests to make sure they're all in working order. Fishing poles, reels, and a good stock of lure was there as well, which was taken out on the multi-person sailboat that the women decided to use.

The sailboat was large enough so that everyone had leg room to sit. Arms wide and legs stretched out, no one would feel uncomfortable. There was also a hutch where the cooler of treats and goodies could be placed, though chances are they would be left out in the open. The sails of the boat were up, catching the wind that gently breezes by, every now and then a little sprinkle of lake water manages to find its way inside the boat and sometimes on the girls. Would they notice? Probably not.

The sun was in the sky, which could dry the wet spots within minutes. And yet, it was cool enough to not cause the heat of the rays to be a burden.

"Sea sickness is motion sickness." Ruth blurts out. Which has -nothing- to do with any sort of conversation what so ever.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
"That it is," Kitty replies to Ruth as she moves across the sailboat from one side to the other. Kitty's wearing a bikini but has a pair of shorts on overtop of the bottoms. Sandals on her feet, and hair pulled back in a ponytail. There may not be a lot of days of bathing suit weather left ahead for New York State, so Kitty is getting in a last bit of sun while she can.

"Being out at sea can be rough, all the waves," she says. "Not usually so bad on something out here unless you're pretty susceptible. Kitty moves to the cooler and asks, "Anyone want anything? I'm going to kick back and relax now we're away, after I get a line in the water," she says with a grin.

She's an old hand with the sailboat, having come to the school when she was 13. So she had a hand in getting it going and the sail up and all the other little things that need doing. But now she's content to relax, pulling a soda out of the cooler. "Ooo. We have cupcakes?"

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige had decided to come along with the other girls to go fishing. Well. The other girls can go fishing. Paige is going to go do one of her favorite pastimes: Studying! Something of a nerd she's got a textbook detailing encryption algorithms in machine language, which she pulled out once the boat got to its destination.

She sprawls out on the deck, in a modest bikini of her own, a wide brimmed sun hat and a pair of sunglasses to complete the look. "Thankfully I don't get seasick," she says with a grin. "Not that there are many seas in Kentucky." She looks up over her book at Kitty and asks, "Have you got any iced tea in there?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Speaking of sea sickness, Gabby is currently bent over the side. Not just bent but leaning over the railing with her legs stretched behind her to balance so she doesn't fall in while her face was down as close to the water as she could get. She wasn't sick though, not with her constitution. It just looked kind of like that.

"Heeeeeeeere fishie fishie fishie," she coaxes in quiet tones as she tries to lure some fish up not with a line and hook, but by wiggling her fingers in the water trying to approximate what she imagines a wiggling worm might look like to a fish. So far with absolutely no luck.

The mention of food causes her head to pop up with a grin glancing over her shoulder. "Yep, there were some in the fridge. I think maybe from Emma? I dunno, she likes sending cupcakes over but it's been awhile."

Ruth Aldine has posed:
Ruth can see the point. The way the sailboat stills but doesn't; bouncing a bit in the waves that look to light to actually push a body let alone a vehicle. Ruth's outfit isn't all that great, she wore a pair of ripped jean shorts, a regular v-neck t-shirt and sandals that she could slip her feet in. Which were currently off. Her own hair was done up into a ponytail, though the blindfold she wore was slightly lifted due to her constantly scratching her face. For once, she was a little bit sweaty under her 'hood'.

"Sorry, is Kentucky all wheat?" Ruth asks of Paige, curious about the state. Ruth has only been to two places, and most of the time she was hardly ever left outside. And while food wasn't the thing that she went for first, it was an actual fishing lure. She had never fished a day in her life, and she was starting to feel that Gabby's method was the best. Rod. Back in place. We don't need you today!

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty pops open the cooler top, pulling out an iced tea and saying, "One iced tea coming up." She makes sure Paige is looking before she tosses the plastic bottle over to her.

A glance is given over to Gabby and her attempt at fishing. Kitty eats the cupcake slowly, moving over to lower the sail and let the boat drift a bit to increase the chances of catching something by not going too fast. She picks up a little tub of worms and brings it over to set it beside Gabby. "Can try one of these if that fails," she says.

Then she's grabbing her pole and laying down on a beach blanket spread on the sailboat's top. The shorts come off and then a worm goes on a hook. Kitty casts it out into the water on the other side of Gabby, a bobber attached to the line to let her know if there's a bite. "That's more a Kansas or Nebraska," she says, though lets Paige give details about her home state. Kitty does glance at the book Paige has with interest.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"You're thinking of Kansas," corrects Paige. "I mean, sure we got wheat, but we also got cows and coal mines and, of course, fried chicken." Kitty catches her eye, and she looks over in time to catch the bottle of iced tea, which she cracks open and sips with an audible "Mmmm."

She watches Gabby's antics with amusement. "The problem you're going to have is that the fish are going to just see you there, like the big predator you are. Got to convince them that you're not there."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney wriggles back up to sit on her knees gripping the edge of the boat. She stretches backwards a bit using the handhold to keep herself upright. "I saw this video about catfishing with bare hands. I think it's called 'noodling'? I mean they were IN the water and all but I figured it might be worth a try." She has, clearly, never fished before in her life. That didn't mean she wasn't going to enthusiastically try. Nevermind catfish were usually in the muddy areas and in holes for this type of fishing.

"Oh. Yeah. I guess I'm not exactly pretty to fish." Her nose crinkles a little in thought at that aspect.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty takes a sip of her soda. "I think they are in a lot shallower water. Here, it's probably... on, twenty or thirty feet deep. So odds of even having a fish that close without something to lure it are pretty low.

Kitty rises to move over and offer some sunglasses to Gabby. "But here, this way you can convince them you're not there," she says with a warm, teasing grin.

After, Kitty heads back to lay out, keeping an eye on the bobber. She glances over at Paige's book again. "That's a pretty decent one," Kitty says. "If you want to get some practical work with some of that, would be happy to set you up with some stuff to do encryption on. And try to break."

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige grins at the mention of noodlin'. "Paw used to take Same to go noodlin' every once in a while. The size of the fish they'd bring home was amazing. Huge fish this big," she says, putting her arms out about as far as they can get. "You noodle by stuffing your whole hand in their mouth and pulling them out like that."

"I'd like that," she replies to Kitty. "I've found that I've taken to this computer stuff pretty easily, not that we ever could afford one back home."

Ruth Aldine has posed:
Gabby's method it is! Ruth isn't squeamish when it comes to touching the worms, but she is squeamish about throwing out a line. She didn't want to hook herself or any other person, in which she could literally see herself doing. So as Gabby relaxes on fish hunting, Ruth took her turn. Twisting to lean herself over the boat, both arms dangling over with finger tips in the water, feet idly creating a cadence as she listens to the others speak.

"Is it normal to not have a thing, pardon.." She quietly asks. "It seems like, yes, with the older we get we fall into things but things do not fall into us. Nothing has fallen into me yet, no. Or slide. Or caught. Things I do not catch and they do not catch me."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Dun dun. Dun dun. DUN DUN AH! Popping out of the water, nearby the boat, is Hank! He's got a self-made scuba getup - apparently he'd been out and about Jacques Cousteau-ing it up. With very acute hearing, he did eventually hear the boat - and then familiar voices, garbled as they are. Popping off the mask, he offers a furry wave over to the boat where the ladies are. "Afternoon!"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney grins when Kitty comes over to offer the sunglasses. They're adjusted on her nose a little, and she snap-points toward Paige's confirmation of her video watching. "See I *knew* it was a thing. ... Too bad it's too deep here then," she adds looking back to the water. Just in time to see Hank come up with his diving suit.

"You are not a fishie."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Paige is given a quick nod. "Happy to help. Doug too I'm sure. He was helping me hack this company that made the stuff Vulture and Green Goblin stole," Kitty comments. Kitty is then debating how to answer Ruth, because she didn't follow that time. Which is when suddenly a familiar, but entirely unexpected, face appears up out of the water!

Kitty gasps and starts at the sudden appearance. It only lasts a second before she's recognizing him. Wet Hank is a different looking Hank, but then not the first time she's seen him wet. Still, Kitty moves a hand over her heart. "Henry McCoy you nearly gave me a heart attack!" she tells him, though the young woman is laughing softly by then.

Kitty takes her seat on her towel again. "We've got drinks. And cupcakes," she tells Hank. "Unless you're doing the fish impersonation and want worms. We have those too." Kitty snaps her fingers. "Oh, and I need you to look at some plans for a containment room later, and tell me what kind of radiation, or anything else, it's meant to contain. And if we can track it. The test room for the inhibitor that was stolen."

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige considers Ruth's question with a purse of the lips. "I think most people have computers in their homes nowadays, so it would be kind of unusual, yes." She shrugs, taking a sip of her iced tea, "I have enough siblings to field a baseball team, so money was kind of tight. We lived a simple kind of life."

It's about then that Hank pops up out of the water and she gives out a little "Eep!" of surprise. Like Kitty, she has a hand on her heart, trying to will her quickened pulse to calm down, but she leaves all the talking to her.

It's only once things calm down does Paige ask, "Hey, next time the two of you go on a hacking spree, can you bring me in, too? I'd love to see how y'all do it."

Henry McCoy has posed:
The man swims closer. "Permission to come aboard?" He asks, resting his hands on the side of the boat. A grin to Gabby. "Not a fishie at all, but I do love fish." Hank keeps treading water, quite enjoying the brisk feel of it, fur or not.

"Sorry for the fright, ladies. I thought I recognized the voices, and thought I'd come up to say hello. If cupcakes and drinks are on the menu, I'd be glad to help with those."

"But no worms, thank you."

Ruth Aldine has posed:
Ruth was in it to win it. Her fingers were going along the water, swishing back and forth.. and for a moment they stop. Hank emerges, and while Ruth wasn't scared, she was mildly concerned that her fingers were the demons that summoned the Hank-Shark to the waters of Breakstone Lake. Re-thinking that thought, she shakes her head. "Hi Professor." And back to fishing.

While Ruth didn't mind Hank coming aboard, she nods her head in his direction. And soon after, her fingers lift from the water, keeping her arms straight as three, normal sized fishies float in mid-air.

"I wish I had a big family, yes." Ruth says to Paige. "My brother and mother are dead. Thank you."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney scoots around to face those in the boat again as Hank gets up into it. She reaches for the cooler to snag one of those cupcakes before they mysteriously vanish into everyone's stomachs. She had to help out a bit after all. When Ruth gets the fish she stares, then stares a moment more at the last. The cupcake is set aside in favor of standing to step over toward her.

"I'mma hug you now," she informs matter-of-fact before attempting to do so. Just in case she wasn't up for it. "I've lost a lot of family too. It sucks. Nothing to apologize for... but you're here now, and you've got all of us, too."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
The question from Paige garners a quick nod of Kitty's head. "Sure, happy to have you come help us," Kitty assures the member of the Guthrie clan. "Sam was there actually too. Brought us sandwiches. Such a godsend, I hadn't ate all night. That kind of happens when you're deep into it," she says with a soft chuckle. "And this place, their IT was really good, too."

Kitty gets Hank some iced tea and cupcake once he's up out of the water, passing them over. "Worm-free. THIS time," she tells him with a wink. "Nice catch Ruth," Kitty says, moving over to open up the little mesh cage that hangs in the water to put the fish in to keep them alive while they are out on the water.

The comment about her family softens Kitty's expression. "Sorry to hear that, Ruth," she says softly. Kitty rests a hand gently on her shoulder.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Climbing up easily, once given permission, Hank keeps from dripping on the assembled ladies. "This time." He winks to Kitty, shaking his head in amusement as he takes the drink and the cupcake with a nod of thanks. He finds a place to sit, sipping from the iced tea.

Resisting the urge to shake off the water from his fur, he grins to all. "How goes the fishing, all?"

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Paige nods, "I lost my Pa not too long ago. Working in the mine for so long gave him lung cancer." She squinches her nose, and looks down at he feet. "It sucks. I know. But you keep moving on."

Kitty gets a nod from her. "Yeah. Sam's always been like that. Especially after Pa died, always trying to take care of everyone. And, yeah. I know about the groove. I get in it when I'm studying. I start at a reasonable time in the afternoon and before I know it it's three in the morning and I'm passing out from hunger."

To Hank she shakes her head. "So far, no fish." She holds the book that she's been studying instead of fishing up at him. "Can't catch much with this." There's a pause as she watches the blue professor curiously. "Professor, let me know if I'm overstepping my bounds, but how long does it take you to get dry?"

Ruth Aldine has posed:
With room for Hank to crawl into the boat, Ruth focuses on the fishes that she's managed to catch by cheating. Slowly, as Kitty opens the cooler, she turns just enough so that the fish could drop right into it and the top to close if no one was quick enough. Gabby's declaration of being hugged causes her to immediately shut her senses down. The world turns itself into a dark mass that she could only hear, and once those arms catch her, she smiles, and it was quick.

"I know. Thank you." Ruth comments, then wriggles in attempts to get out of her grasp if she's had. Being left in the dark was frightening. "Three fish." Ruth replies to Hank, intending to get more.. that was until Paige asks her question and a deep, looong snort draws from Ruth as her own version of laughing.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney releases her hold on Ruth as soon as it's obvious she wants to get away. She knew it was a touchy thing, but thought she might need a hug. Thus the warning. Normally warnings weren't given. Stepping back she reclaims her seat on the side of the boat letting her feet kick a bit idly in the process. "That's a good catch, Ruth! Still haven't caught any myself." Of course she had quit trying her method of finger wiggling and whispering at the water for now. There were cupcakes to be had.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty watches the interaction between the others. "Yeah, Sam's a good guy like that. He mentioned he's attending the police academy. That's very... him," she says, the smile making it a complimentary thing.

Kitty feels a little tug on her fishing pole, looking over and seeing the bobber starting bob up and down just a little bit as a fish is testing at the baited hook. Kitty lifts up the pole a little higher and waits. After another ten seconds of the tiny little bobs, it finally disappears under the water. She gives a little flick of the pole to help set the hook. The pole bends a bit as the fish makes a run for it, the line going tight.

She starts to reel the fish in, pulling the pole towards her then reeling in the line as the pole descends again, then repeating.

Henry McCoy has posed:
The Beast settles back, letting the sun help to dry him out. He grins, nodding to Ruth. "Nice... three. Well done." A nod. It's quite the nice day, after all. "Sometimes, Gabby, fishing is not about catching fish. Fishers tend to look for other things to catch, like relaxation and conversation." He grins.

As Kitty hooks one, the man grins and gives a bit of cheer. "Good catch!"

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Ooh! You got one!" Paige cries excitedly. She sits up from her reclining slouch to watch as Kitty fights the fish. "You got 'em!" she cheers encouragingly.

Ruth Aldine has posed:
"If you dive you can catch one, yes." Ruth tells Gabby. Now that she was out of anyones arms, she.. well.. turns herself back on. The world lights up, speeding up and slowing down, jumping to an appropriate point in time so that she could at least participate in the visuals. As Kitty catches a fish.. or.. almost.. Ruth settles in and remains silent. Though, there was a smile upon her face as she rocks from side to side, enjoying listening to the others cheer Kitty on! This was great!
