Did You Want Fries With That
Date of Scene: 01 April 2020
Location: Planet Herowood - Times Square
Synopsis: Lunch!
Cast of Characters: Ted Kord, Mary Bromfield, Beatriz da Costa

Ted Kord has posed:
Planet Herowood has some changes. for one thing there is a larger display case in front and apparently the figures are being rotated because a number of figures in the back like Bea's and Tora's are in the front and dusted. For another thing, the servers are wearing superhero costumes. One man dressed as the Torch has very convincing holographic flames around his head. An underweight Wonder Woman is seating people. The hostess clanks her bracers together and says "Hola," in a tired tone. "Please follow me to your seating. It's been reserved for you by the management." She walks around the crowded tables to a secluded booth. "Your server will be here in a moment."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam smiles graciously, looking a bit more sympathetic than she might otherwise. Probably since Mary knows all too well how tiring being a barista can be after a long shift, "Of course. Thank you very much, Diana." She plays along with that, taking a seat at the booth and looking around with a hint of a smile.

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
Bea is here in non-super form. She hugs the waitress in greeting on arrival. "Di! Great to see you again! It's been too long! Call me, hon!" Playing along in her own way, leaving the waitress undoubtedly confused as to what just happened and why.
Slipping into the booth her smile is far more than a hint. "So, nice of you to come buy, Lady Shazam. I'm sorry to hear Shazam is too busy to drop by. Probably saving the world, right?"
From the horrors of not knowing what The Incident at Owl Creek Bridge is really about, undoubtedly...
"So what'll you have? They made a sandwich after your brother. Its a gigantic stuffed ham ... sandwich."

Ted Kord has posed:
A slim server in a blue costume slouches up, his face hidden by the menu cards he holds. With a sigh he begins tossing them at Fire and Lady Shazam in a very unprofessional manner. "What'll it be, ladeeeez?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam looks a bit surprised at the toss, but catches the menu effortlessly. She hrms softly, "Iced tea, please, and... hrm. I haven't really been here before. Anything you'd recommend?" She looks curiously at the server, arching a brow just a bit as she then passes a glance to Bea.

Ted Kord has posed:
The server sighs, reaches for the menu card and crosses out 'iced tea,' and shakes his head. "We're out."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam frowns at the lack of tea, and glances over at Bea, "A stuffed ham sandwich? Well... that's an odd choice." She doesn't think of the obvious ham pun there, as she hrms, "Anything you'd recommend? But yes, Shazam is a little preoccupied at the moment, so I tagged in. And... well, I've never been here before."

Ted Kord has posed:
The server sighs again, reaches for the menu card and crosses out the Shaz-Ham sandwich, and shakes his head. "We're out."

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
"I'll take the Fiery Flame-Broiled Chicken Salsa Salad, I guess?" Bea says, going for the Fire-themed dish, despite salsa not being even remotely Brazilian, and the only link--a reach so far that it takes dislocating a shoulder to make it--to Bea being that it's hot and spicy. "And a cranberry soda on the side."
She hands the menu card back to the terrible server. So many nice restaurants to choose from and they went to ... Herowood. She sighs.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam looks over at Bea, "Of course they have //your// item..." She pauses, and looks at the menu, then says, "I'll take the Power Girl Sandwich, and water then." She hands the menu back to the server, looking still polite despite the attitude. Rather inflappable, as she glances back to Bea, whispering softly, "Was this my brother's idea?"

Ted Kord has posed:
The server glares at Bea for a moment, sort of behind her back. Then with a shrug he pulls his goggles down and his hood back. "Fire... Bea! For crying out loud! Bwahaha!" He grins and gives a loud laugh, ignoring the stares of others. Weird laugh.

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
Bea stares a moment, like a deer caught in headlights. She shoots a panicked look around the place, relaxing upon ... seeing ... nothing special? "Oh, God, Ted, it's been ages! How have you been!?" She stands to hug Ted and closely. "Tell me you haven't spent the last three years serving here. If you needed help, buddy, you should have come to me!"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam looks... well, perplexed, is a definite word for it, as she glances between Bea and Ted, then she grins a bit, "I hope this means I can, in fact, have iced tea." She tilts her head, looking curiously at Ted now as she arches one brow in his direction.

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord calls a regular server over and says, "No, I haven't been waiting tables. After... Doomsday I spent months in a coma, then rehabilitation. I put my affairs in order. It turned out some side projects I started before being hospitalized paid off over the last year or so. Kord Co. is back! I... may be back. Still considering whether I want to do the heroing gig again but... I heard you're putting a crew together. I'm one of your silent backers. I'll be glad to contribute tech support."

Ted turns to regard Lady Shazam's raised eyebrow, looking somewhat nostalgic. He slips into the booth and extends a hand saying, "Theodore Steven Kord, once known as Blue Beetle. Pleasure to meet you..." He lets the sentence trail off waiting for an answer.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam looks politely over at Ted, and smiles a bit, "Oh, yes, I //have// heard of you. You can call me Lady Shazam." She says the last with a bit of forced nonchalance that seems, well, a bit odd. She then looks immediately relieved for some mysterious reason, then adds, "I'm guessing iced tea is available, then?" And with that, she gives Ted a smile.

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
"You'll have to forgive Ted," Bea says, scooting over to let Ted join the pair. "He's picked up a terrible sense of humour." She narrows her eyes at Ted. "I can't for the life of me figure out where he might have picked up the jock pranking from..."
There's history. It's looming in the conversation. A tall presence that is not there, yet omnipresent, almost as if built into the DNA of the site itself.
"So ... you want in on the Equalizers?" she asks Ted. "Tech assistance would, indeed, be greatly appreciated. We can start with a bikini that won't burn away when I get hot in more than my usual way. Just a fireproof bikini that looks good on me. That's all I ask!"
She pauses, then adds significantly. "I'm from Brazil. That kind."

Ted Kord has posed:
The regular takes the orders and scurries away. Iced tea is produced almost immediately and the rest of the beverages. Ted says, "Needless to say... check is on me. I'm sort of a silent partner here. I gave them a wheel barrow of money and they set a reserved booth for my friends to eat free."

Ted smiles back, "It's nice somebody heard of me."

He considers Bea's request, "Brazilian... Well that's sensible given what such materials cost. Stay out of Boston, you might get picked up by the cops on principle." he looks over at Lady Shazam and quickly figures, that's half my age and add seven. Round up... 25, yes she looks about that. I am not a dirty old man... yet."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam, for her part, blushes when Bea starts talking about bikinis, then says, "Ah, yes... oh, so the Equalizers? That's an interesting name, and, well, who else were you thinking of Bea?" She looks curiously at Ted, but is trying to keep her mind focused on the team stuff, and not the bikini stuff.

She probably doesn't even know what a Brazilian bikini is!

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
Beatriz da Costa says, "Your brother and I, Looker, and a speedy guy I know as Kyn," Bea starts counting off on her fingers. "Ted wants in now, and someone I know in Metropolis going by Knockout is another. You of course would be welcome too Lady Shazam. Basically we're trying to make a group that helps the new heroes or the heroes who are a bit disconnected and might need a network.""

Ted Kord has posed:
Ted Kord chews on a breadstick and doodles molecules on the mat. "So... Not The Justice League. Sounds good. I'm not sure if I'm up to field work anymore Bea. Doomsday took a lot out of me... I didn't want to see any of my old friends until I was semi-normal. Don't say it. I think I have a material on hand for your suit." He jots down three pairs of digits set about by dashes and holds it away from Lady Shazam, "Are these still your measurements?" He gives Mary an eyebrow lift and wink.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Lady Shazam blushes brightly at the wink, "Er, ah... hrm." Wait, there's tea, yes. Tea is good. Then she looks over at Bea, and looks a bit relieved to be talking about business, "Yes, I think it would be good for me to be involved, if you'd have me along anyway."

Beatriz da Costa has posed:
Bea looks at the numbers, makes a wry face, and adjusts them fractionally upward. "I've been idle for three. I tried to keep the figure, but ..." she shrugs. "Better up those a quarter inch each. We can roll them back once I get into the scene again."
She glances down at herself. "Yeah, the hips spread just a tad. All the dieting in the world doesn't hlep without activity."
"And of course I'd have you along. We need SOMEONE to keep Shazam in step, don't we, Lady Shazam?"
