Profile
The Blue Beetle is anything but blue! A happy go lucky sort who thwarts the bad guys with an air blast, flash gun or bad joke. If the bad guys knew how much fun he has they'd kill themselves. Inactive for several years he has returned.
Timeline
Timeline:
1987-Born
2005-Attends Hudson University. Graduates in 2 years. He meets Professor Dan Garret who becomes a mentor and friend.
2007-Builds the family technology business, Kord Co. into a giant similar to the Likes of Roxxon or Lex Corp.
2008-Ted Kord enlists the aid of his former professor Dan Garrett (the original Blue Beetle) to unravel a conspiracy. Ted's uncle, Jervis Kord is building an army of robots and bent on World conquest. In the final battle Dan Garret is killed, passing his mystical Blue Scarab to Ted.
2009-The darned scarab doesn't work! Ted begins intensive training and research to become the new Blue Beetle.
2010- The Blue Beetle debuts. Bwahahaha!
2011-The Beetle fights various menaces in Chicago such as the Mad Men.
2015- Blue Beetle joins the Justice League alongside such heroes as Fire, Ice and Booster Gold.
2016-Leading his double life takes a toll. Kord Co. files Chapter 11. Ted starts several enterprises in his spare time, using technology he encountered in the Justice League.
2017-Death of Superman! In the course of battling Doomsday, Ted is severely injured and goes into a coma.
2018-After months in a coma Ted awakens. He also finds several of his firms have done incredibly well. Ted begins therapy to regain his athletic prowess.
2020-With a new Kord Co. behind him Ted begins backing several superhero teams and Mutant charities. He becomes their silent benefactor. He ponders returning to the hero game again.

Personality
Adventurer:
Ted loves excitement and adventure. As he once put it, "I am a man of action! ... and passion!" Everyone laughed but Ted believes it.
Curious:
Whether he's probing the mysteries of technology or a murder, Ted will attack a mystery and not let up until its blood is gone. He also is prone to sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. He is the type to press that big red button to see what it does.
Entrepreneur:
Ted likes setting up businesses and building stuff. While money means little to him as long as he has enough, this is just his creative side expressing itself. Some people paint, he builds force fields and stealth technology. A lot of people want Ted's work.
Nice Guy:
Ted even got along with Guy Gardner-mostly. If he has a problem with someone he will state it and work things out. He is forgiving to a fault with people, especially his friends. If argument or even a fight is impossible to avoid he will take the least aggressive path. Instead of a superhero brawl he'd ask you to step into the ring with him. this extends itself to his superheroing. His main weapon is as nonlethal as you can get.
Professional:
Ted is as serious as Doomsday when doing a job. He doesn't fool around in his lab and on a mission he follows orders. Ted subdues his natural humor and has no problem playing support: flying the plane, manning the sensors and tending the injured.
Wiseacre:
Ted is a smart alec, always ready with a quip or some infuriating bit of banter. In fact he can seldom keep his mouth shut, even in dire situations. This is a defense mechanism more than anything else. He also frequently gets an advantage in a confrontation by just blathering on until the opponent makes a slip.

Acrobatics:
Ted is easily able to duplicate the feats of Olympic gymnasts and acrobats. He is not the same caliber of Batman or Daredevil but he still has some incredible moves.
Detective:
The Blue Beetle is one of the best detectives in the country, easily on par with detective Chimp or Elongated Man.
Espionage:
Not the tuxedo'd bacarat playing kind, the analyzing intelligence, decrypting code and back engineering gadgetry kind. He is a pro and could give the CIA pointers.
Inventor:
Ted Kord is an inventive genius in engineering. His primary skills are with vehicles-such as his Bug. He's also modified and built more conventional aircraft, like several League Shuttle.
Martial Artist:
As super types go Ted is a master of mixed martial arts and the equivalent of a black belt. He can hold off several thugs or guards in a hand to hand fight.
Scientist:
Ted can perform research in a number of fields and has an excellent general knowledge in science. He has depth of knowledge in aeronautics and physics.
Thief:
If he needs to get in, odds are he'd get in. He can defeat the most advanced conventional security systems and has a good chance against WayneTech or SI state of the art equipment. Not that he would break into WayneTech or SI.
Vehicles:
Years of flying the bug and his own shuttles have made the Beetle a master pilot. He was usually the designated pilot in his League days. He's somewhat less capable than Lady Blackhawk but not by much.
Weapons:
The Beetle is fast and accurate in a shootout, wielding his BB gun with great efficiency. He can easily knock over a foe or disarm them with a blast of air.
Resources
Aero-Discs:
Ted had an opportunity to observe and sometimes examine Fourth World Technology. While he couldn't duplicate many of the components and materials, he found substitutes that worked better than human technology. One of the simpler devices, that he managed to back engineer were aero-discs! Ted's discs are bulkier than Mr. Miracle's. They do not collapse when shut off. They are slower than the originals and can reach 100 mph. In addition they use miniaturized thrusters for propulsion and are noisy, as well as leaving a glowing trail. Stealth mode avoids this but the speed is limited to 30 mph. Finally, without a Mother Box to control them, Ted needs to use his body language and pedals. For anyone with less coordination or skill, using the discs could be fatal. The discs store on Ted's back on a harness.
Bb Gun:
The Blue Beetle's weapon has two weapon systems. The first is a blinding strobe beam capable of blinding and stunning a number of enemies on wide beam. The second is an air blast that can hit with the force of sledgehammer. Beetle usually is very careful with the high power setting.
Bug:
The Big is Ted Kord's masterpiece. Shaped like a huge beetle it has functional legs and claws allowing it to land nearly anywhere or grab smaller vehicles. The bug is capable of mach 3 as well as hovering and is powered by advanced batteries.It can stay airborne and carry a small team for several days. The cockpit is equipped with radar, audio and video sensors. It is armed with advanced lasers and air cannons and its computers link to Kord Co.'s mainframe.
Costume:
Beetle's costume holds a remote control device, allowing him to control the Bug. Hidden pouches hide a few small gadgets he changes out for trouble he anticipates. His goggles provide a heads up display of the Bug's operation. There is also a communications headset in his hood.
Drones:
Ted has several drones or bots up and flying about his penthouse and making life better. For the most part they merely follow his orders. Beetle Operations Bot 01 is a special case. He has limited self awareness and initiative. He had a habit of building more bots -even helping with his final assembly.
The drones can fly and have manipulator arms. They're almost as strong as a human. B.O. B. 01 lifted a full grown woman and flew with her halfway across Manhattan but blew out his thrusters. The drones can perform search and rescue and aid in construction or lab work. They will defend humans from attacks, shielding them but are nonviolent. Ted refuses to arm them. Finally the bots have several secret compartments to hold cash and small items Ted might need (googles, BB Gun etc.).

Kord Co:
Ted runs a now midsize conglomerate with nationwide branches in a variety of tech fields.
Weaknesses
Eating Disorder:
When he's stressed or bored, Ted eats. He actually needs a fair amount of exercise to keep in shape and rapidly can enter a downward spiral of eating and skipping exercise, resulting in a gut. Ted may have put this disorder behind him, having taken his stress and insecurities out on Guy Gardner. He still worries about his diet.
Insecure:
The Blue Beetle was once an overweight and lonely boy. He was constantly bullied and ridiculed. Eventually he started intensive physical training to let his body catch up to his mind but his insecurities remain. He doesn't think he's as good a detective as Batman or a martial artist as Black Canary, seeing himself as a second rater.
