Adam

Adam was the first mortal. He is not the biological progenitor of human race, but rather the first mortal spark created at the dawn of time.

When The Presence was satisfied with the First Firmament, They began to work on the final component of the universe: mortals. The first souls were forged by the will of The Presence, and They put the first mortal down in The Garden to enjoy its fruits. This creature was Adam.

Adam named the animals and the plants and the world around him but yearned for a companion like the base animals had. He begged The Presence, who gathered the dust of the Garden and created the first woman. This woman was lovely but she did not have the spark of The Presence in her. She existed to please Adam only, but he desired true companionship.

So the nameless woman was returned to dust, and The Presence created Adam's first wife-- Lilith. For a time, they existed in idyllic harmony. But Lilith had her own personality, her own dreams and ideas. She refused to be beholden to The Presence's grand plan, and insisted Adam respect her as an equal. For this boldness, she was cast out of The Garden.

The Presence took a rib from Adam and created another woman, Eve. Adam was satisfied his dominion should extend over her as well as all else in The Garden. From Adam and Eve, more mortal sparks were forged, creating the souls that would occupy the physical vessels that mortals later took.

When Samael learned of how his brothers had stolen the Silver City from the Lilim, he flew to the Garden to enact his own revenge. He lured Adam to the Tree of Life and Knowledge, where The Presence had left the last ingredient of the mortal soul: doubt. The ability to question, and wonder, and the emotions attached to that concept such as envy, jealousy, and suspicion. Adam realized what he had done, and quickly encouraged Eve to come with him and sample the fruit as well. When Eve realized how Adam had manipulated and controlled her, the love between them evaporated.

When The Presence came upon them, They ordered Adam and Eve to leave the Garden. At the invitation of Dream, Eve took up residence in a quiet cave at the far end of The Dreaming. There she could visit her sons, Cain and Abel as often as she wished.

Adam elected to travel among mortals, and lived many lives and took many forms over the endless epochs. He has wandered all of Creation for untold millennia, anonymous and often not even aware of his own past.
