Betty Ross was a well-known and knowledgeable doctor of cellular biology focused on curing the effects of radiation on organic cells. That is until her tragic death via gamma radiation poisoning while part of the Bio-Tech Force Enhancement Project run by the U.S. Military. Unbeknownst by anyone, Betty's body was stolen by the supervillain known as the Leader, who used his knowledge of gamma mutation to resurrect her as the menace known as the Red She-Hulk.

Extended Timeline:
* 1982: Elizabeth is born as the only child of Air Force General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Roll and his wife, Karen Lee.
* 1996: Betty's mother passes away. Consumed by grief, Thaddeus decides a military base is no place for a young woman and sends her away to boarding school, which causes her to be increasing estranged from her father.
* 2000: Betty graduates from boarding school and is accepted the College of Biology at Culver University.
* 2002-2004: Betty is asked by her father to meet the bomb's creator, Dr. Bruce Banner when he arrives at the base. The two develop a growing attraction to each other, which deepens Thaddeus's existing dislike for Banner whom he feels is a physical and emotional weakling.Banner is accidentally irradiated with gamma rays durning a test of the Gamma Bomb and transforms into the Hulk. Betty assists Banner in escaping pursuit by her father so he can go into hiding, though Thaddeus continues to hunt Banner.
* 2004: Betty graduates with a Bachelors in Biology. Inspired to try and find a way to help Bruce, Betty continues into graduate program at Culver University.
* 2008: A blood transfusion from Bruce Banner to his critically injured cousin, Jennifer Walters, results in the creation of the She-Hulk. Learning that similar mutations can be created with the use of gamma rays, the Bio-Tech Force Enhancement Project is begun bo the U.S. Military, in an attempt to create new gamma-enhanced super soldiers. General Ross is placed in charge of the program.
* 2010: Betty graduates with a PhD in Cellular Biology and a minor in Physics, with a speciality in the effects of radiation on organic cells. However, she has no way to contact Banner, who is still in hiding.
* 2013: General Ross pulls some strings to allow Dr. Ross to be recruited into the BTFE Project. Dr. Ross is not told the program's true purpose initially, and is led to believe that the program deals with novel ways to deal with radiation sickness, such as eliminating malignant tumors, strengthening the immune system, or finding a remedy for certain neurodegenerative diseases. Part of the work deals with the effects of using gamma radiation in place of vita radiation to spark physical changes in organic cells.
* 2017: Dr. Ross discovers the true purpose of the project and gets into several heated arguments with her father, General Ross. She eventually decides that she will stick wth the project in the hope of finding nonmilitary purposes for the research, and possibly a way to cure those already mutated by gamma radiation like Banner. However, her relationship with her father further worsens.
* 2018: Bruce Banner re-emerges in the public eye when he is recruited by SHIELD to fight off an attack on New York City led by Loki. This infuriates General Ross., who become increasingly determined that the BTFE project bear fruit to provide weapons to use against the Hulk when he inevitably goes on another rampage. Dr. Ross is disheartened that Banner has not contacted her before going public.
* 2018 - A freak accident causes a experimental gamma ray cylinder to explode while being transported through the base. A worker at the facility, Samuel Sterns, is bombarded by concentrated gamma rays for over a minute from the cylinder and becomes a gamma mutate with superhuman intelligence and memory. With his project in danger of being cancelled, Ross secretly begins using Sterns, despite his increasing arrogance and sociopathy, to further the project. Sterns quickly makes several breakthroughs that make the project viable again, though Ross remains suspicious and limits his access to the project files. Dr. Ross is likewise wary of Sterns at first, but is won over by Sterns' manipulations, believing he like her is dedicated to helping people.
* 2019: A slightly paranoid General Ross choses to move ahead with human testing over Dr. Ross's objections, but to avoid word of Sterns involvement getting out, volunteers personally to be the first subject of the tests and is secretly turned into the Red Hulk.

Extended Timeline2:
* 2020: Sterns's planning comes to fruition. Using Betty's trust of him, he arranges for her to be given a fatal dose of gamma radiation in her food, then convinces General Ross he can save his daughter when her condition is discovered. While Betty is not suspicious, General Ross only reluctantly agrees to entrust her treatment to Sterns. However, Sterns betrays both Betty and her father by contaminating one of Betty's blood tranfusions with gamma irradiated blood, which kills her. Sterns plants information suggesting there is a spy at Desert Base responsible and makes a public show of grief over the loss of a "friend," while quietly arranging for Betty's body to be preserved via cryostasis. While an enraged Ross goes hunting for a nonexistent enemy agent, Sterns steals all of the project files along with Betty's body and various seized equipment stored at teh base, then escapes the facility, renaming himself as the supervillain mastermind the Leader. Ross is disgraced once the sabotage is discovered and his questionable decisions come to light. He is discharged from the Air Force.
* 2021: A new villainess resembling a crimson She-Hulk appears, though her allegiances or identity are unknown.

Personality

Bitter:
Betty has had a hard life, from losing her mother at a young age, to having a very rocky relationship with her father, to falling for and being left behind by her first love, Bruce Banner. She can be an angry and unhappy person at times, especially when confronted by those who have hurt her in the past.

Devoted:
When Betty cares for someone, she is unafraid to show strong affection or attachment to them. Though this can lead to bitterness should the person in question act against Betty's best interests or betray her trust.

Dominating:
Red She-Hulk great enjoys dominating others through strength and violence, especially in battle. This can lead to her focusing too much on showing her superiority over achieving her goals. This is especially true when it comes to other gamma mutants like the Hulk or She-Hulk.

Independent:
As a child and young woman, Betty was controlled by her demanding father. When she met Bruce Banner, she saw him as a way to be free of her father's control with someone who respected and understood her. But then she was left behind by Banner when he went into hiding. She's grown to where she no longer feels she has to depend on anyone but herself, a trait magnified when she's Red She-Hulk.

Kind-Hearted:
Betty Ross is a gentle person, with a desire to genuinely help people. This has caused her to be a bit too accommodating when she was younger, but as she's aged she's grown she's still willing to help, even if she can be more selective about who she helps.

Loyal:
To those who show loyalty to her, Betty shows loyalty back. But it can be more difficult to win that loyalty, given how many times she's been disappointed or betrayed by those she tried to trust in the past.

Mean Girl Within:
Betty Ross is a kind-hearted, devoted, and gentle person, who often has been made to choose paths because of others, not for her own desires.

Red She-Hulk, on the other hand, is Betty with few inhibitions or filters, unrestrained from acting as she always wished she could. She says what Betty always kept as her internal dialogue out loud; she has no issues with mocking or being mean or vindictive to people she doesn't like. She's the bad girl that Betty never had the courage to be growing up, willing to give the finger to anyone who tries to keep her from doing what she wants to do. There's still a good amount of Betty in her...she's just as resourceful and determined, but she's much more of a fighter who chooses action over words. Usually by choosing violence.

Mocking:
Red She-Hulk enjoys telling it like it is, perhaps a bit too much. While Betty has internal filters that moderate her tone and commentary, Red She-Hulk enjoys being brutally blunt in her tone and speech, to the point of taunting at times.

Resourceful:
As herself or the Red-She Hulk, Betty uses her cleverness to make use of the resources available to create effective and ingenious responses to problems, even in very difficult circumstances.

Vindictive:
Red She-Hulk harbors grudges and can be spiteful, as well as taking satisfaction in hurting someone she believes has wronged her. She will go out of her way to seek revenge if given a chance, or at least to balance the scale in her mind against previous actions against her.

Character Sheet

Powers

Acidic Spit:
Red She-Hulk is able to spit a highly acidic bright yellow compound capable of immediately burning through skin on contact.

Adaptation:
As with other gamma mutates, Red She-Hulk has the ability to adapt to her environment to allow her body to operate normally. For example, her regeneration means that even in the absence of oxygen, her body will adapt, using her gamma energy reserves to keep her cells working normally; the same occurs in vacuum, where she will adjust to be able to survive for extended periods. She can survive even extreme environments through this combination of durability, regeneration, and the use of stored energy to supplement her survival. However, it still takes some time to adapt to an abrupt change in environment, usually requiring a few minutes to switch over, which often involves disorientation.

Energy Absorption:
As part of her unique physiology when she is the Red She-Hulk, Betty is able to absorb energy, such as gamma radiation, to enhance her abilities, such as strength or regeneration. She can discharge this stored energy by touch, or, when drawing from very powerful sources, use it to grow in size up to 50 feet in height, increasing her strength and durability proportionally for a time until the excess energy is used up.

Regeneration:
Even with Red She-Hulk's incredible durability, she can be injured, but her natural regeneration is so rapid that she can heal even serious physical injuries, such as massive tissue loss, blood loss, or organ damage or loss in a matter of minutes, even less if she has a source of radiation to absorb. Her body is also immune to all known Earthly diseases and all drugs or toxins. However, critical damage, such as losing limbs or organs, can not be as easily regenerated without outside assistance. This resistance also effectively gives her immortality as the Red She-Hulk, though her human form still ages normally.

Superhuman Agility:
Red She-Hulk's enhanced physiology gives her inhuman levels of agility, balance, and coordination beyond that of even top human athletes.

Superhuman Durability:
Red She-Hulk is impossibly durable. She is highly resistant to all types of damage: weathering extreme pressure, bouncing bullets and artillery shells, electrocution, falls from great heights, powerful energy attacks, stabbing from adamantium claws, or superhuman blows on the level of the Hulk. Most attacks are more likely to piss her off than actually cause lasting damage. She could stand at the point of detonation for a gamma bomb and suffer no damage. This does not mean she doesn't feel pain from attacks, or that she cannot be stunned by an extremely powerful one. Also, certain weapons, such as vibranium, adamantium, or weapons of similar power can get past her toughness.

Superhuman Movement:
Due to the power of her enhanced leg musculature, Red She-Hulk can move and run at speeds beyond that of a top human athlete. In particular she can cover wide distance through superhuman leaps that can carry her three miles in a single normal jump, or even father if she pushes herself.

Superhuman Stamina:
Red She-Hulk's altered musculature produces less fatigue toxins than normal, which, combined with her natural regeneration means she can go up to 48 hours at peak performance before starting to grow tired.

Superhuman Strength:
Red She-Hulk possesses incredible strength and an exceptionally oversized physique and musculature. While her maximum strength has yet to established, she rivals both the Hulk and She-Hulk in strength, and is able to easily lift around 100 tons with little effort. Improvements to Betty's normal strength from physical training are amplified in her Red She-Hulk form.

Skills

Academics:
Betty has a wide range of academic knowledge from her years in university, even outside of her chosen field.

Biology:
Betty's encounter as a young woman with Bruce Banner and his work, and more importantly his curse upon becoming the Hulk, gave her a strong interest in learning more about biology, leading to a PhD in the field and an advanced understanding of human biology. Her specialty is in cellular biology and the effect of radiation on organic systems and cells.

First Aid:
Betty has an advanced knowledge of first aid, assisted by her knowledge of biology. She is capable of dealing with unusual metahuman biology, and even can perform basic first aid for some alien biology.

Marksmanship:
As an military brat, Betty learned to shoot at a young age and has kept up her skills over the years. She is familiar with a variety of military and civilian firearms. As Red She-Hulk, her strength gives her even more accuracy, as she can completely ignore recoil even from heavy weapons when firing them.

Martial Arts:
As a army brat growing up, her father encouraged Betty to be able to defend herself, enrolling her in karate classes, including those that dealt with the use of weapons. In addition to being a black belt hand-to-hand fighter, she has some experience fighting with swords or staves.

Military:
Betty is a military brat and lived on Air Force bases for much of her early life. She has a good knowledge of how the U.S. Military operates, particularly the Air Force.

Radiation:
Betty's knowledge of physics primarily focuses on advanced knowledge of radiation studies, in particular the study of the effect of radiation on biological systems and cells. While she's no engineer, she has a good understanding of how physics works in general as well.

Survival:
As part of her father's insistence that she be prepared and a stint in the Girl Scouts, Betty has a good knowledge of how to survive in the wilderness, including finding food and water, navigation, and finding shelter.

Resources

Armory:
Betty grew up an army brat and learned to shoot from a young age, and had a modest selection of firearms at her home, mostly a couple pistols and a shotgun. Red She-Hulk, by comparison, LOOOVES guns. She has created an armory primarily of weapons she's acquired from opponents or just because she fancied them, many of which have been modified to no longer be strictly legal. Which her chosen weapons vary, she usually can put her hands on several if need be, though she also prefers to be close up and personal over shooting at range.

Costume:
Red She-Hulk's chosen costume is a mostly black sleeveless bodysuit that zips up the front with matching fingerless gloves and combat boots. The material they're made with are capable of withstanding normal wear and tear of her superhuman strength and are very durable to boot. Most importantly, the material shrinks or grows with her, fitting snuggly in both her human and Red She-Hulk form and avoiding the sort of wardrobe malfunctions normal clothes would cause when she transforms.

Thaddeus Ross:
While she has been estranged from her father General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the past, if he knew she was in trouble he would move mountains to help her, as long as it didn't run against his sometimes misguided sense of patriotism or involved helping Bruce Banner, whom he personally despises after years of hunting the Hulk before he joined the Avengers. As the Red Hulk, Ross has similar power levels to the other Hulks and is a formidable opponent. Of course, currently he thinks his daughter Betty is dead and her body stolen, and considering their rocky relationship asking him for help would be a last resort...

Weaknesses

Addicted:
Betty is addicted emotionally to the freedom and power of being Red She-Hulk. As a woman who often allowed her father and others to control her when she was younger, she revels in the ability to do as she wants without inhibition or concern about what others will think of her.

Bipolar:
As She-Hulk, Betty shows symptoms of mental instability, her mood shifting between emotional highs and lows. She can be brash and energetic one moment and morose and bitter the next. She's aware of this issue and often tries to cover for it by pretending she's simply acting or playing a role.

Depression:
Betty has had a lot of losses in her life, and a lot of disillusionment. She can fall into more cynical depressed moods, especially when she lets her thoughts become a spiral focused on what failed over what she's succeeded in.

Legally Dead:
Betty Ross was declared legally dead, dying as a result of exposure to an irradiated blood transfusion. There's a death certificate and everything. As far as official records are concerned, she's still dead, making it difficult to do a lot of things until that's straightened out.

Monstrous:
As Red She-Hulk, Betty has bright crimson skin, yellow eyes, and yellow blood, in addition to her oversized musculature and size. She cannot pretend to be anything but a metahuman, at least without a good deal of effort to disguise her appearance.

Rage:
"I've felt it waiting out there. I'd go all the way like Bruce. Not human anymore. A big raging monster. And Now it's happened."

Like her namesake the Hulk, Red She-Hulk struggles with her anger and bitterness becoming uncontrollable. She fears becoming like the Hulk, a monster completely consumed by rage and violence.
