Coney Island Clean Up
Date of Scene: 04 May 2024
Location: Beach and Boardwalk - Coney Island
Synopsis: A trash cleanup at the beaches of Coney Island draw a few heroes, but also a few incognito villains.
Cast of Characters: Kiana, Frederick Foswell, Bobby Lane, Jason Wyngarde

Kiana has posed:
The fliers had gone up on bulletin boards around the area, as well as postings on MyFace pages and on Tweeter. A clean up of the beaches of Coney Island was planned. In particular a 'garbage patch' offshore had spun off a little castaway group of refuse which had made it up onto the shore. Plus all the normal detritus which makes it there.

Kiana arranged to meet up with Bobby Lane beforehand. Using some fashion advice from others, she shows up in a pair of spandex pants and a t-shirt over the bikini that she first washed ashore in and that is her normal attire when she's out and about the oceans and shorelines of the world.

The pair move over to where the organizers are at. "Thank you everyone, for coming out!" a young man says into a little toy-sized megaphone, but it does amplify his voice a bit. He has unkempt sandy brown hair and is wearing a baja top. And he looks -exactly- like someone who would organize a trash clean up on the beaches.

"We have biodegradable bags over here for everyone, and ties for them. There are some sticks with pointy ends for picking up trash for those who bending over a lot might be difficult, though not enough of those for everyone," he says. "We'll gather up the trash and bring the bags over to this location where we'll have trucks haul it to the recycling plant and sort through anything that can be recycled. Think Green!" he says.

Frederick Foswell has posed:
"Dad, do I really have to be here?"

Frederick Foswell, who was clad today in a pair of cargo shorts and a Hawaiian shirt glanced at his son and said with a slightly annoyed son, "We wouldn't have to be here if you didn't get detention last week. Mom wants you to clean this beach, and you better do a good job at it to!"

Frederick Jr grumbled as he marched up to the area where the bags were being handed out and took a bag and stick of his own, along with his Father, and began working on gathering trash. If Foswell Senior were to be honest with himself, he didn't want to be there either. But, when his wife came to him fuming that his boy had been found dealing chewing gum at his school he knew he had to take appropriate action to stop his boy from falling down the path of crime. After all, what crime lord wants that for his son? So that's how Frederick Foswell found himself spending his Saturday picking up trash.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby shows up wearing a white button up, short-sleeve shirt. The buttons are dark so they stand out. He's wearing a pair of black shorts with white tropical tree prints scattered all over him. It's not exactly his style, but Bobby can still get sunburnt. So, he's going with function over fashion. Even if the function may be more fashionable than his actual fashion. And yes, he has a good amount of sunscreen on.

Bobby looks over the people that show up from the volunteers that look more than eager. To those that are -clearly- dragged here. Bobby? He's doing it for personal reasons. First, Kiana, and others, use these beaches. Second, he might try surfing since it's KIND OF like skating. Third, is guilt. He's not sure why there's a guilt gnawing at him. It's not like he turned into A Saturday Cartoon Captain Planet villain. But maybe he feels like it's making up for darker points in his life. Even he's not one-hundred percent sure.

Either way, he's here and when the congrats go out. Bobby will clap then put on some sunglasses. He feels a little odd to be dressed like this. Unintentionally dressing better just because he wants to avoid the sun.

Jason Wyngarde has posed:
Jason likes to go back to his roots from time to time, and he's just standing out there as a beggar, busking for coins by playing a saxaphone rather skillfully. Of course he cant play at all but the illusion is just as good to the ears of those hearing as the real thing; indeed maybe even a little better thant he real thing.

A group of teens walk by and begin to make fun of those picking up trash. At first, they are obnoxious but then they only get more so, and one says, "Hey I'm helping!" Where he reaches down and picks up a candy wrapper and puts it in Jason's hat....

Jason looks down at the hat, and then at the wrapper...and suddenly, a marching band comes around the corner. Yes, thats right a full marching band as several folks (besides likely our diligent trash pickers) and a large man in a pinstriped suit (oldie but a goodie) says, "Folks...I understand that there is a secret treasure map on the back of one of these pieces of trash...I'm prepared to pay over $100 for EACH piece of trash you pick up" and he takes out a large suitcase full of money.

People are skeptical at first, but one person (an illusion) picks up trash and puts it in the plastic back and he hands them a $100 bill! Suddenly, tons and tons of people are helping!

Kiana has posed:
Kiana turns to Bobby Lane, smiling over at him. "It seems like a lot of people want to help," she says as they each get plastic bags for the trash. "Though I wonder why people don't just... you know... not throw the trash out there where it can get on the beach or in the water?"

As people begin to spread out across the beach, she lets Bobby pick where they go. The father and son (Frederick and Jr.) draw her attention and she gives a soft smile at the younger version being there to help out.

She spies the lid to a fast foot beverage blowing across the sand, and trots over to pick it up. Then she hears the marching band and turns, eyes widening a bit, obviously affected by the illusion as are so many there. "Wow, I didn't know it would have anything like this!" the naive young woman tells Bobby.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"That's one of the things I hate about this country sometimes. A lot of people have ideas to improve it, but no one can agree on what should improve it. While they're busy disagreeing, people that don't care are just making a mess. So, it forces people like us to clean and do what we can," Bobby points out how the situation feels to him. He would love some form of change, but politicians, industrialist like Lex and Stark, and so many others have similar, slightly different and wildly different ideas. And they rarely compromise.

"What upsets me is when people still throw something on the ground and there's a trash cash just a few feet from them," Bobby says as he begins to hunt for things to put into his bags. Then there's a sudden pause hearing Jason's word. The young man pauses as he tries to figure out if Jason's claim is real or not.

He guesses probably not, but Bobby doesn't -know- that. So, that small part of his brain casting doubt on his own skepticism keeps him listening.

His gaze goes to the Foswells as he's curious if the boy heard anything about this. It could be motivation for the guy. Although, his gaze slips to Kiana. She might believe it, too.

Frederick Foswell has posed:
As Frederick and Freddie Jr started to clean they looked up and saw the marching band coming and, upon hearing the offer of money he grinned hopefully, but his Father cleared his throat and said, "No was Junior, you are not gettin rewarded for a punishment! Now get back to cleaning!"

Freddie Jr grumbled to himself and got back to cleaning, but waved shyly at Kian when she smiled at him.

Jason Wyngarde has posed:
Jason is controlling the man in the pinstriped suit though he himself actually still looks like a homeless guy. Most of the people helping to pick up trash are illusionary, picking up illusionary trash. The teens, however, who made fun of folks are going at it gung ho. Jason actually has a vendor come up selling pick up sticks for $50 and the teens are totally going for it. To the original legit trash gathererrs, its just trash...but to the teens, as they look at and pick up the paper, hints and shadows of maps are seen on gragments, increasing their enthusiasm considerably.

Of course, the $100 bills that are being handed out are actually coupons for the local animatronic pizz place that is reumored ot be haunted.

The boys fork over real cash for illusionary pick up sticks and dont realize tehy are picking it up with hteir own fingers.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana might have heard the man handing out money as well. "If you want you can take the money," she tells Bobby. "I won't need it. Oh that reminds me!" She pulls a couple of bills out from beneath her top and offers them to Bobby. "For the dress," the Polynesian girl tells him with a pretty smile.

People are spreading out wider as it is a lot of space to canvas. Kiana reaches down and picks up a sodden magazine. The pages are stuck together in a wet mess. Which is probably good, because the title can't be read on the cover, but the model there suggests it might be kind of a racy magazine.

She adds it to her trash bag and then scours the sand with her eyes, looking for another piece of garbage. "Do people do this very often?" she asks Bobby. "There are some places in the ocean that this stuff gathers together in big floating piles of it," she says, stopping to pick up a plastic soda bottle.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby jus stares at the people going to the volunteers, but Bobby heard things like money and treature. He just stares at Jason. "Remind me never to anger that guy," he doesn't question how. All the young man knows is that these people see something that isn't there. Magic? Mind Control? He doesn't know. It's not nefarious, persay. However, he may be intimidated to stop the guy. If it goes into horrible territory that changes.

Bobby looks back to the father and son. For a second there's a bit of jealousy. A life he didn't get to experience thanks to a lengthy background in the system and between foster families. "Kid's lucky," Bobby says low, Kiana may not have heard him.

Talk of money come out, "No. You keep it. Consider it a gift," to him it wans't nothing. A welcome package for a visitor. Well, that's how he justifies it anyway.

Bobby works with his own trashbag. "People do it often. Some are really good about it. Others not so much. I'm the latter, sadly," he'll admit it. And that makes him feel a little worse.

Jason Wyngarde has posed:
Jason Wyngarde decides to skip out, chuckling to himself. The illusions will do their best to give Bobby, Kiana and Frederick's son the real cash and get the hooligans to pick up as much trash as possible but will likely break down and simply melt if things get too complicated. He whistles to himself as he wanders down the alley and into the shadows.

It is indeed a good idea not to piss off Jason.

Kiana has posed:
Kiana walks alongside Bobby. "Something over there stuck beneath that seaweed," she says, pointing to where some kid's balloon ended up after it lost its helium. She glances over at Bobby as they head over that way.

"So have you been, out over the water recently?" she asks, just a tiny pause as if she's learned enough about secret identities to be cautious in her wording. She brushes back some hair behind her ear after the wind has gotten ahold of it, and smiles over to Bobby.

Frederick Foswell has posed:
As Frederick and his son continued cleaning a intrusive voice entered Frederick's head

"Frederick, your boy knows about the lion lady. Question him about it."

Frederick gritted hid teeth and shook his head violently. No! Je sworwe to himself he wouldn't get his boy involved in the Big Man's world, and he would never break that promise. He continued to pick up the trash, hoping to get rid of the Big Man, for now
