Knox Kennedy is born of two mothers: Marina Kennedy and Nyx, goddess of darkness and the night. Raised initially to be the herald of Nyx's return by a reclusive cult, Knox has forgone that destiny and fled to chart his own path. Armed with the power of umbrakinesis, a proficient grasp of sorcery, and a talent for lockpicking, Knox now lives in New York City, where he balances living everyday life, stealing for his livelihood, avoiding his once keepers, and the occasional streak of vigilantism.

Personality

Cruel To the Cruel:
Where he may be compulsive in remedying true suffering, he's quick to impart it on people who seem intent on torturing other people. Having significant pent-up aggression toward his mother and the Cult of Nyx, he uses acts of vigilantism as a venting mechanism.

Reluctantly Kind:
Despite his sheltered upbringing, Olympians interfered at Knox's childhood development at key points both magically and situationally to ensure he has a moral compass. He will not go out of his way to remove other's people's discomfort, but when faced with genuine pain or despair, he is prone to act. It's a quality he refuses to acknowledge in himself.

Superiority Complex:
Knox was raised by a cult to be their 'chosen one'. After escaping the cult, his exposure to the real world and its related challenges have left him feeling vulnerable and inferior. As a defense mechanism, Knox will reassert that he's special and people couldn't possibly understand his burdens.

Thirst For Normalcy:
Knox feels like he has missed out on several normal life experiences as a child. While he does embrace his powers and isn't ashamed of being different, he wants his share of 'Slice of Life' and is quick to indulge in the simple things.

Powers

Apprentice Sorcerer:
Raised in a Cult dedicated to the Goddess Nyx, Knox is fully indoctrinated into the mystical world. He is capable of casting lesser spells and rituals as an evoker, channeling the concepts of darkness and night as his harmony. Consequently, his magical aptitude is almost non-existent during daylight unless under ground or some other dark place.

Lesser Olympian:
Knox naturally develops muscle mass rapidly and possesses enhanced neurokinetics placing him in the peak of human capability. As he grows older, he may become more in touch with his heritage leading to the superhuman feats of other new gods, but as of today, he is peak human in strength, endurance, speed, and reflexes.

Shadow Form:
Knox is capable of melding with existing shadows and patches of darkness. This is most commonly used as a method of escape or egress, allowing Knox to slip out of the grasp of his enemies or squeeze underneath doors. The Shadow Form is also an effective defense against kinetic attacks but is vulnerable against energy projections.

Umbrakinesis:
Knox creates physical constructs from shadow and darkness. These constructs may be physical extensions of himself such as wings, claws, or armor, and these extensions may take the form of autonomous constructs such as humanoids and shadowy animals. Like his progenitor Nyx, he can also bind opponents and project bursts of shadow which strike with kinetic force. The material strength of the constructs is similar to strong hide or leather. When creating constructs, he can control a mass equal to two average sized humans, one large animal such as a tiger, a dozen small animals like rats, or a swarm of insects like flies. The constructs are above average in physical strength capable of easily subduing normal individuals. They are a nuisance for peak humans, and are easily dismissed by superhumans.

Skills

Good Student:
Knox's early reclusive life left him without many outlets for entertainment. As a result, he came to love books and the acquisition of knowledge. He is a very dedicated student when presented with the right materials or tutor. Though tutors should be beware his frustration with failure.

Mythology:
Knox has been trained from an early age to be well acquainted with the various myths and godlike beings of Earth's past and present. He can usually puzzle out the involvement of a deity or other mythical creature in a conflict or mystery.

Talented Thief:
Knox has has a natural aptitude for thievery, infiltration and escape. His skills have been honed in a variety of escape attempts from the Cult of Nyx over the years, and he currently relies on these skills to support his lifestyle by stealing from the wealthy, violent, or just outright rude.

Resources

Demeter and Aphrodite:
These two goddesses haven taken special interest in Knox from birth. They are 'from afar' benefactors, but as a result, certain lucky circumstances happen occasionally happen for Knox.

Weaknesses

Cult of Nyx:
Knox is the chosen one who must be returned. This cult is ancient in its founding and has several active members, including Knox's birth mother, Marina Kennedy. The cult possesses significant financial and mystical resources and are capable generating significant threats. Additionally, they are aware of Knox's personality and weaknesses.

Light:
Knox's powers are inherited from Nyx, and thus his powers harmonize with the concepts of night and darkness. Daylight and extremely bright artificial light weaken his powers. If the illumination is comprehensive enough to avoid casting any significant shadows, light can outright nullify Knox's powers.

Mild Sunlight Allergy:
While sunshine is not completely anathema to Knox, he does sunburn easier then most, and he is more susceptible to heatstroke. He can still enjoy a day on the beach. He just needs to pack his best sunscreen and keep a cold beverage on hand.
