Nova Corps

The Nova Corps are the enforcement arm of the government of Xandar. They are a military unit that exists outside the command structure of the regular fleet and reports directly to their chief officer, Nova Prime, and the Xandarian Worldmind.

Around 500 Nova Corps agents serve at any given time. As a military group there is rigid discipline and strict expectations for personal conduct. Corpsmen are the lowest rank, aside from the inductees who have been accepted for Nova Corps training but have not yet been awarded formal rank. Millennian form the rank-and-file, with Denarians acting as leaders of small teams deployed to take on specific tasks assigned by the Worldmind. Command of larger cohorts falls to Centurions, and the leader of the Nova Corps is called 'Nova Prime'.

Despite their relatively small numbers the Nova Corps are held largely in high regard by the rest of the galactic civilizations. Xandar's Nova Corps have been a principle force in stabilizing the endless detente between Kree and Skrull. They enforce rules of law and the orders of war, and other signatory treaties between nations. Much of their work addresses war crimes, particularly offenses against civilian populations. They also offer relief efforts in times of natural disaster.

The Nova Corps are empowered with the awesome power of the Nova Force. This is a wellspring of energy produced and stored by the Worldmind. Though the Nova Force is not part of the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum, the distribution method is derived from observations of the Martian Manhunters of Oa. The Nova Force is primarily used as an offensive weapon, directing blasts of raw high-energy particles or manipulating gravitational patterns in reality. The Worldmind adjudicates the power levels largely on a basis of rank and personal capability, limiting the flow-through of energy to unproven Nova Corps and permitting more trusted ones to access more power at faster rates.

At current time, the bulk of the Nova Corps are spread out between the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxy. The recent destruction of The Brood has freed up many of their troops contingent to pursue a wider agenda of military needs.
