Scott Free is the child of Highfather, and a Homo Immortalis of the realm of New Genesis. After decades under the merciless thumb of Darkseid and the sadistic Granny Goodness, Scott escaped Apokalips and fled to Earth. He found himself in Metropolis and for the first time, could blend in with the people around him. It's a condition he relishes and he's started to see the city-- and the people-- as being more than merely his less-evolved cousins.

Timeline

Timeline:
Born April 1, 1971, Scott was the unlucky child of the Highfather of New Genesis. He was not given a name; it was his destiny to be given to Darkseid. An exchange of children to bring peace. His memories of his life before Apokalips are scattered motes of dust in his dreams.

1975: The young child is brought to Apokalips and delivered to the 'care' of Granny Goodness. He would spend forty years being mauled, abused, and beaten by an ever-more-perilous training regimen. As others wilted, cracked, or died, Scott continued to survive.

2015: Approaching maturity, Scott realized that Granny Goodness was growing desperate at her continued failure to break him. Her prize pupil was becoming outspoken and defiant, no matter how hard he was beaten.

2016: With the help of Big Barda, Scott escapes Apokalips. His exit was far from graceful and instead of returning to New Genesis, the Boomtube destabilized and dropped him on Earth in Metropolis.

2017: He takes on the name 'Scot Free' and finds a passable living as an illusionist. Card hustles and a little well-planned larceny help him meet ends between gigs. When Doomsday arrived to fight Superman, Scott made very sure that he was nowhere near the fighting.

2018: When Loki attacked New York, Scott this time joined humanity. He provided covert support for costumed vigilantes and kept his identity and presence secret from most.

2021: Word reaches Scott that Barda has made it to Earth! Thus far unwilling to reach out to his clan among the Eternals, Scott elects to approach Barda to help her ease her way into this strange new world.

Personality

Heroic:
Scott is fundamentally one of the good guys. He protects the innocent, rights wrongs, and stands up for his beliefs without hesitation.

Irrepressible:
Granny Goodness tried to beat the positivity out of Scott. He was tortured, abused, starved, and beaten for his entire childhood. He still believes in right over wrong, diplomacy over violence, and good versus evil. He is determined to show Apokalips that their methods are wrong.

Long Con:
Scott Free plays the waiting game. He keeps his eye on the prize and ad-libs anything his considerable planning failed to account for. Scott will endure embarrassment, humiliation and even defeat if there's a goal at the end he's gaming for. Often his enemies-- or friends-- realize too late that they've not captured Scott, but rather stepped into one of his own traps.

Showmanship:
What's the point of doing something the boring way when there's a fun and flashier method that works just as well? Scott is adept at capturing attention and distracting with sleight-of-hand skills. For him, it's not just about surviving life; it's about embracing it.

Powers

Homo Immortalis:
Scott Free is quite young among the immortals of New Genesis. He still shares in the powers of his people, fueled by the light of the Power Cosmic. Scott can lift 20 tons under ideal conditions and his body is durable enough to slow and stop small-caliber rounds. He is hardy and resistant to many common diseases and poisons, and can operate in natural extremes of heat and cold with only mild discomfort. It can take a day or more of heavy exertion for Scott to tire. Actively manipulating his personal gravimetric field allows Scott to maneuver very effectively, and reach potential speeds up to 400mph.

Power Cosmic:
For brief intervals Scott can tap into the Power Cosmic in a fractional way. This temporarily bolsters his superhuman physiology, making him tougher, faster, and stronger. Even the engineered Homo Immortalis was not meant to draw endlessly upon the power of the Source, and prolonged use can have crippling or permanent impact on him.

Telepathy:
Scott possesses only the most rudimentary of telepathic ability. He can sense emotions in people, and send and receive simple messages or images. Complex or abstract concepts are more difficult to convey, particularly to strangers. His sole area of strength is obfuscating his location from anyone searching for him telepathically.

Skills

Celestial Tech:
Celestial technology is the underpinning of society on both New Genesis and Saturn's moon of Titan. It is advanced beyond anything Earth has produced and relies on physical properties that few humans could grasp. Between breaking them and repairing them, Scott has become quite an expert.

Concealment:
Illusions and vanishing acts only work if you really know how to hide. Scott is a master at this task. He can conceal himself from sight, mask his sounds, even suppress his scent and personal aura. His skill as a telepath is quite average for a Homo Immortalis, except this: few beings can compel him to give up his location or what he sees with his own eyes.

Dirty Fighting:
Scott is of relatively average strength among his people. He has long since learned that winning fights means coming at his enemies sideways. His style is brutal and precise, doing maximum damage with a hit from the shadows before diving away again. He will use improvised weapons, environmental hazards, light, shadow, darkness and sound to conceal his motions from the target. He is one guy who always has something up his sleeve.

Escapology:
Scott isn't called 'Mister Miracle' for nothing. One would be hard-pressed to find a sentient in the whole of the universe better equipped than he for escaping from impossible situations. No jail can hold him, no labyrinth can keep him trapped, and no defenses can keep him out of anywhere he wants to get.

Fighting:
Scott's a lover, not a fighter. But he's far from helpless, trained in the pit fights of Apokalips. He can fight empty-handed with some basic proficiency. His particular skills emphasize range fighting, with handguns or thrown weapons. It turns out knife throwing is a fairly lethal talent for someone with near-perfect proprioception and enough strength to bench press an elephant.

Gadgeteer:
Scott has long felt that with the right set of tools, keys are irrelevant. He has developed dozens of gadgets and accessories to address a dizzying array of possible barriers or obstacles. Micro-welding lasers in his gloves, an Aero Disc hidden in his boots; there seems to be no end to his imagination or creativity.

Sleight of Hand:
Fake left, go right. Hide something in plain sight. Create scenarios that audiences will automatically find faith in. It's not just about being able to pull literal rabbits from a hat. Scott is a master at misdirection, of the psychological tools that separates great magicians from the merely good ones.

Strategist:
Scott makes it look easy, but that's because he's a man who believes in being prepared. He never charges into a situation without thoroughly analyzing it and preparing multiple contingencies. He is a fan of the long con and will set up scenarios where he is embarrassed or defeated if it means he'll pull off the score in the end.

Resources

Miracle Suit:
Part armor, part stage costume, Scott is rarely seen without his chosen attire. The modifications it contains seem endless; it is flame-retardant, proof against many chemicals, insulated against electricity and cold, and sealed against space. The cloak offers adaptive camoflaguge and even light-bending invisibility. Scott's Mother Box has been partially disassembled and is inconspicuously distributed around the outfit. The boots contain collapsed Aero Discs to bolster his flying requirements. Micro-welding lasers are concealed in the fingertips and there are dozens of other tools and gadgets cleverly hidden or concealed inside the garment. The palette: specifically chosen to irritate Granny Goodness with how colorful and cheerful it is.

Mother Box:
A Mother Box is a living computerized entity. Always a she, and never an it, she looks after those who posess her by accessing the power of the Power Cosmic for various effects. She can produce the Aero Discs used for flight, create Boom Tubes for travel, and help with boosts of stamina or endurance for her user. She allows Scott to understand any language, enhanced his telepathy, and moderate his moods. Scott's Mother Box has been partially deconstructed and integrated into his suit's design and light padding. Mother Boxes, when damaged, can be healed with the love and hope of the user. They are not fully independent AIs, as they can only function with the attention and love of their assigned user.

New Genesis:
Scott was born to the colony of Homo Immortalis that dwell on New Genesis. Aside from being Highfather's son, he has personal and familial relationships with both New Genesis and the Eternals of Titan. He can call on them for aid and support.

Weaknesses

Absent Fathers:
Scott is the son of Highfather, ruler of New Genesis. He was given to Darkseid as part of an attempt to continue diplomacy between New Genesis and Apokalips. He deeply resents being used as a tool for diplomacy, which is all either of those two giants saw him as.

Celestials:
Homo Immortalis are a breeding program of the ancient primordial race known as Celestials. Scott and others were created with the intent of exploring humanity's genetic potential. If the Celestials return to Earth they may very well make demands of Scott that he cannot ignore without putting himself in great jeopardy.

Granny Goodness:
Granny never did break Scott in her hellish schools, but she came close. She is a source of frequent nightmares for him. The cycle of nurture-dependency-abuse was repeated often over the years. Scott knows Granny is thoroughly evil... but part of him still hopes to redeem her someday.

Human Technology:
Celestial machinery with nigh-unfathomable science? Not a problem. Cell phone repair? Scott would draw a blank. Modern human machines are as foreign to him as his tools are to them, and even this proficient gadget maker might get hung up trying to do an oil change the first time.

On the Run:
Scott Free is one of the few people to escape the clutches of Granny Goodness. She is not one to forgive and forget. Anytime she encounters him or learns of his whereabouts, she's going to take reckless actions to 'rescue' him.

Radion:
A failsafe engineered into Homo Immortalis. Radion is a rare energetic emission that can only be produced artificially. When the Homo Immortalis is exposed to it their connection to the Power Cosmic is rapidly drained. The energies that fuel their life force and provide them their fantastic powers are diminished in moments. With enough exposure the damage can be near permanent, or even fatal.
