- Hal Jordan has posed:
For months now the Justice League and their allies have been locked in a struggle with their criminal equivilent, a collection of supervillains who have dubbed themselves the Injustice League in clear mockery of their adversaries.
Individually, these criminals have failed in their schemes again and again, whether facing the individual members of the League or facing them as a collective. That seems to have been the rationale for the whole 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em thing they have going on, forming their own collective devoted to their own ends be it greed, or the accumulation of power, or just a love for chaos.
Certainly together they have proven to be a more formidable threat, having achieved some small measure of victories over their do-gooder foes. Or at least draws at the very least.
Not for the first time, the League and it's allies have tracked this criminal collective to their latest base, here in the heart of Antarctica, in the unlike primordial jungles of the Savage Land. Again and again, the Legion of Doom has slipped away from them -- first back in Slaughter Swamp on the outskirts of Gotham, and then again in Gorilla City in the dark heart of Africa.
This time the hope is that it will be different.
The scout team that traced the not quite perfectly hidden signal being relayed from an abandonned Russian satellite in geosynchronous orbit above has indeed seemingly been successful, the ground practically collapsing beneath their feet to reveal the underground cavern beneath the jungle floor, running right up to the base of one of the volcanos scattered through this unlikely stretch of terrain.
And there, at the very base of that slope sits the Injustice League's Savage Land lair, looking very much like the one they encountered in Slaughter Swamp -- a raised death's head shaped bunker in glossy black materials that seems to ominously reflect the reddish glow of nearby lava flows, particularly the 'eyes' of that helmet shaped fortress.
But as ominous as that dark fortress might appear from across the floor of that cavern, more concerning is what lies between the League and it. In this case a virtual swarm of what appear to be metallic, robotic replicas of the predominate native life to the region. Namely, a host of robo-dinosaurs in all shapes and sizes. Huge, towering brontosaurs practically stretch to the ceiling of that cavern, each step sending little tremors through the ground. Soaring pterodactyls wing their way through the cavern, flitting from ledge to ledge, those razor sharp beaks gleaming under the redish glow from the lava flows that occasionally stretch out across the cavern floor -- yes, the floor really *is* lava here -- while all manner of other robo-dinos flit amongst those flows, from the towering, menacing T-Rex, to the smaller, swifter pack-hunting raptors.
Of course the Injustice League is not the only ones that can manage to conjure up unlikely allies at the most opportune time. In this case, the Justice League response team includes on Hal Jordan, Green Lantern of Sector 2814 and he now hovers at the entrance way to this cavern, wrapped up in that emerald glow as he peers across that glowing field of battle with it's host of mechanical threats.
"You know," he begins almost conversationally, "I've been to the far reaches of the galaxy. And still, the strangest things that I run into tend to be right here on good old terra firma."
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
What the hell drugs has Grodd or.. Okay, whomever has replaced Grodd as leader of the Injustice League been on!? Monet St. Croix can only just sort of stare for several moments. This isn't even the first time in the last few months she's faced roboticized or cybernetic dinosaurs in secret villain lairs in volcanos? That makes for a somewhat depressing series of life experiences. Monet goes to dive to the side as a blast of fire goes past her from a Triceratops with three heavy metal horns, fire hot enough to melt through solid reinforced steel and titanium.
"I believe that they've noticed our approach." SHe would note drolly. "We really should find their designer and thank them for such inspired work and then give them to Stegron for making such a mockery of his preferred fauna." She's a bit too focused however on flying defensively to counterattack even as above her a Pteranodon goes to swoop on past, unleashing a barrage of rockets about! While at the same time having to avoid being melted down over to liquid slag from the terrifying, rampaging Tricerotops!
- Oliver Queen has posed:
Ugh.
The Savage Land has proven to be something of a disappointment.
Oliver appreciates a good romp through the jungle as much as the next guy. He called one his home for quite a few years in actual fact. That creates a bond that just can't be broken between man and primeval forest.
But the jungles that he usually frequents don't have dinosaurs - of the real or robotic variety - inhabiting them. As it turns out, that does make something of a difference. And while they haven't made an apperance yet, the Green Arrow is still expecting giant mosquitos to show up sooner or later.
And giant bugs is where Oliver draws his line in the sand.
Or lava, in this case.
"No one told me there would be lava. I would have worn my other pants," he points out sardonically, gripping that composite bow in one hand as he surveys the cavern looming before them. And all those damn dinosaurs. "So, I've got the five or so on the left if the rest of you have the sixteen million on the right," he suggests drily, reaching back to pull out an arrow and draw it to his bowstring.
- Kyle Rayner has posed:
<"You sure about that Highball? I went to a planet that involved ducks in the marriage ceremony. Ducks. Well, space ducks,"> Kyle chimes in over their ring communicators. He floats down toward the opening. Kyle focuses and a lantern forms in his hands. Not the recharging kind, but camping in the middle of nowhere kind.
His gaze goes over the Volcanic area. "A for effort though. They went all James Bond or Austin Powers on this one. I'll give them credit," he nods at the effort the villains made. It's traditional, and maybe a little gutsy.
"This Savage Land is making me miss Krypton and Krypton can be chaotic," well it's new Krypton.
Still, it was just war not dinosaurs, giant bugs and dinosaurs.
- Billy Batson has posed:
Lightning by now is like a reflex to Shazam. Lightning is bad for robots for the most part. Probably androids as well and cell phones -that was proven. Robots against heavy hitters is pretty much a distraction and a delaying tactic. Which makes him wonder WHAT they are being set up for. Nevertheless he begins trying to zap the rockets in flight, hoping to set off detonators harmlessly short of their targets. the rockets arcing towards Monet explode as advertised. He lands and strides towartds the fire breathing t-tops.
Nevertheless he stifles a guffaw. 'C'mon man, I have to concentrate on this stuff!"
- M'gann M'orzz has posed:
M'gann hovers in the air, watching the robo-dinosaurs roaming and flying and moving about, her lips pursed up as she tries to discern any patterns or 'patrols' to the movements. Glancing sidelong towards Hal and chucklings, "As someone not *from* Earth... I can agree with that statement. Earth does seem to produce or draw in the strangest things."
Flicking a glance towards Oliver, she reaches out and lofts him up into the air through her telekinesis, forging a psychic link so he can provide instructions on how/where he wants to go. Essentially providing him a limited form of flight. "I am not a fan of lava either, Arrow. Perhaps this will help navigate it better."
Turning her attention back to the dinosaurs, she murmurs, "They are a distraction, a stalling tactic. They have to know that robots are not going to prove much of a challenge for us... So what do they need the extra time to enact?"
- Hal Jordan has posed:
"Space ducks getting married does do a pretty good job competing with this. But it's all the little touches that put this over the top," Hal asserts as his gaze sweeps over the cavern with a small shake of his head, wry disbelief etched onto those features there.
"The robo-dinos and that skull-head fortress would be enough. But the lava. That just really seals the deal. It does seem like something out of a cheesy spy movie. But under the right circumstances this could be a pretty daunting sort of obstacle to pass.
Those circumstances don't necessarily apply to the Justice League and their allies however. Not when all of them -- sorry Oliver -- can fly. Though it would appear that their resident Martian has that handled for the Emerald Archer at least, giving even him considerably more mobility.
Unlike real dinosaurs, there are a few advantages in having the robotic ones at their command. For one thing, while all these dinos of this sort might inevitably start to fight, the robotic ones seem to have been programed to get along. They also, quite clearly, have indeed been programmed to patrol the cavern, those swarms of pterdactyls flying in almosst squadron like formations while the ones on the gorund do indeed seem coordinated, with the faster, smaller raptors out on the fringes, ready to chase down and channel threats into the waiting jaws, horns and tails of the T-Rexes, Triceretops and Stegasauruses.
It would all be terribly impressive. Against most other threats.
As Miss Martian reaches out and links their minds together, Hal is already following after Monet as she launches herself into the fray, a streaking emerald glow that launches into the darkness of the cavern, mingling with the reddish glow of the lava as a green energy construct leaps from his ring, a huge glowing cattle-catcher forming up on the ground below, propelled as if at the front of a speeding locomotive as it cuts a swath through the robotic lizards down there, knocking them aside or simply plowing straight over them.
<<Lets clean out the chaff,>> Hal urges over that mind-link. <<Kyle, see if you can keep those big, ugly birds off the rest of us while we thin out the ground threats,>> he adds in suggestion.
Then one of the T-Rexes below turns it's gaze up towards him and those robotic eyes begin to glow brightly before lances of pure laser energy leap forth, slamming into a hastily formed green shield.
Because of course they are not just robotic versions of actual dinosaurs.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Some sort of gunk is flung over into her face, elctricity blasting out nearby as Shazam makes the save! Monet goes to quickly wipe it off her eyes as she was blinded, having to see through someone else's sight to see waht was going on. Ugh, from the Brontosaurus-Bot. What sort of sludge was thsi!? It had better nto be radioactive. She lets out a growl, and then goes to fly on at high speed towards one of the mecha-Stegosauruses. Her fist up and cocked as it goes to let out a snarl.. Then one slam of it's thagomizer sends her flying!
Like the late Thag Simmons, whom gave his life for field research.. As she would slam into the wall of the cavern and get up again. "Ugh. Volcanos, dinosaurs, robots.. We had BETTER not find that all of them can combine to some sort of giant robot." Because that was all they needed. Some massive monster volcanicus coming forth from merged dinosaurs out of the volcano.
- Oliver Queen has posed:
The fact that he finds himself plucked from the ground, floating up above the surface is both something strange and a bit of a relief for Oliver. Running around between lava flows is prettty reckless, even for him and the Emerald Archer dips his head towards M'gann with a bit of a grin. Even moreso when he realizes that the telekinetic version of this flight is far more responsibe then he would have imagined. No doubt thanks to her other martian abilities. "Much obliged, pretty lady," he chimes in with a dip of his head.
And then he more or less simply floats through the air in a pretty upright stance. Some people might want to swoop or soar, to take proper advantage of the opportunity to fly. But not Oliver Queen it seems. Though in fairness, it is probably easier to continue to draw and fire arrows like this then it would be flopped on his stomach.
And fire arrows is what he does, launching one after another towards the various mecho-dinos below, seeking out vulnerable points like their joints or mouths, focusing on his explosive and taser arrows first.
When one of the flying dinos swoops towards him, he finds out just how responsive M'gann's mental command of his telekinetic flight can be as he dips down in a rapid dive, pulling up just shy of the river of lava - close enough to feel the heat radiating from it -- and swoops along it with that pterodactyl in hot pursuit. "Lil' help?"
- Kyle Rayner has posed:
"Well, I mean, yeah they're tapping into their Doctor Evil Aura. I'll give it that. But they havne't pulled out a planet destroying laser yet. Or a weather dominator. When they do that....I'll give this the crown," he replied for a moment.
His mind gets linked, <<Yep>> Kyle starts to float up waiting. And that's when one swoops down toward Ollie. <<Ollie go up then move down!>> Kyle focuses and he counts on Ollie being pursued. Kyle's aiming for a spot, this is to give himself a clean shot at the flyer. He doesn't want to wing (no pun) the archer. Energy lances out from the ring. No constructs, just a beam of energy.
- Billy Batson has posed:
Shazam would help the Green Arrow and enjoy a few more cracks. But that flame spitting triceratops is charging him. M'gann or Monet might notice a slip on his part. His eyes shut as he throws a punch. Maybe he doesn't like flaming goop in his eyes?
There is a rumbling, splintering crash. When he opens his eyes, the robot is a twisted wreck. "Holy Moley! C'mon, I can beat your whole herd!" That is when he notices the rest of the tri-horned flame spouters in bound. "Aw sh..." Crash! Fwhoosh!
- M'gann M'orzz has posed:
M'gann's telekinesis is *extremely* responsive, able to react at the speed of Oliver's thought, having experience with this sort of flying as it's actually how one flies a Bioship as well! It makes things run much more smoothly, even allowing her to turn, angle or twist him as he wants beyond just simple directional movement.
For her part, she fades to intangibility (but not invisibility!), maintain her presence as a potential target but giving herself a level of protection. At the same time, M'gann holds herself back from engaging hand to hand, sticking to using her heat vision as a means of helping to thin out the herds.
When Shazam finds himself surrounded by flame-spewing trikes, M'gann turns the heat vision that way, shearing off roboheads or simply burning holes through the shiny hides to fry whatever cpu's are driving them. She can't get to ALL of them, he'll have to take out some of his own, but it will keep him from getting overwhelmed!
- Hal Jordan has posed:
While the entire setup might feel a little 'ripped from the movies', they have at least put a little creativity into their robotic dino-defenders. As the the Justice League and their allies are quickly discovering.
There are the ones that shoot lasers from their eyes of course -- the dinos with frickin' laser beams on their heads' and the ones that belch out great plumes of fire of every color. There are ones that send out surges of electricity from their horns, their bodies crackling and electrified, making them more dangerous to touch. Even some of them spit acid, great gobs flying through the air, landing with a hiss when they miss, eating away at the cavern floor and walls as little plumes of smoke rise up.
Still probably not a match for the League and their abilities in truth, but more daunting then it might have appeared on the surface. Still, one by one a number of the robo-dinos begin to fall, smashed into pieces and the hundreds of threats are slowly whittled down.
Then that towering brontosaurus stomps one of those huge feet on the ground and in addition to making the whole cavern shake, arcing lines of electricity begin to radiate outward from that massive foot, a dozen or so crooked, weaving lines out the ground that suddenly explode outward and upward, hurling up masses of rocks and lava into a dangerous rain of molten rock.
Even the flying pterodactyls prove to have their own armaments, those beaks opening and launching razor sharp disks as they pursue Oliver and Kyle through the sky.
It is all a little much and for the moment, Hal turns his attention from offense to defense, that emerald rin on his finger flaring brightly. The giant cow-catcher vanishes below and in it's place are a dozen or more flying medieval shields that zip around, following after his teammates to turn aside attacks that otherwise might hit home.
Which is when the next trap is sprung.
Abruptly, above them, glowing portals open like the sort they have seen too many times before, no doubt conjured up by Morgan LeFay or Tala or one of the other sorcerous types working with the Legion of Doom.
But instead of members of the Injustice League pouring through, huge plumes of falling lava begin to poiur out of those portals in a downpour of searing melted rock, a dozen or so giant columns of burning death abruptly filling the cavern.
Diving low, Hal grits his teeth and points that ring upward, gripping his wrist with his free hand as a brilliant dome of green energy begins to form above, almost forming a sort of umbrella that catches the pouring lava, letting it roll along over that glowing dome and begin falling all around, off to the side. But the weight and heat only grow and even Hal Jordan's will has limits.
Meanwhile, all those shattered dino parts left from the ruins that the Leaguers are making of the robo dinos begin to melt, begin to pool into a silvery metal. Those pools begin to inch along the ground, slowly gathering up, merging together...
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
The floor is lava, the ceiling is lava, the walls are lava.. Life is just a really big lava lamp! Unfortunately they're the bubbles in said lamp. Monet's eyes go wide as the twitch of 'you have got to be kidding me' would roll off her face. Then she's diving along to try and telepathically sweep ahead to try and find SOMETHING that has some level of sentience through the chaos that might be working onc ontrols. While trying to avoid being a participant in the 'you stepped in the lava' game.
<<We can't just fight our way through this all day long. I hope someone has a suggestion for how to bypass these before we start to lose to attrition!>> They hadn't even faced the supervillains proper yet. For once the secret supervillain lair was living up to it's scares!
Monet goes to duck underneath the umbrella shielding from the pouring lava, trying to get her wits about her. How can they get further into the volcano without having to start to drill through it?
- Oliver Queen has posed:
What's a poor archer to do?
In Ollie's case, his first act is to pretty much do as Kyle suggests. Getting that flying menace off his tail is high up his list of priorities under the circumstances, especially as it starts to spew out razor sharp disks in his direction, the flying blades soaring all around him. So with that threat hot on his heels, Oliver puts M'gann's gift to good use, practically stopping on a dime to go straight up and out of the way, gaining an advantage as the dino is not nearly so responsive.
By the time it circles back towards him, he is already diving once more, clearing a path for Ion to deal with those flying menaces.
Of course, while all of that has been going on, the sky has literally started to fall, those cascades of lava barely held back by the glowing green dome above. And while it might only be a matter of time before it gives way, it's still better then having no cover at all, so Oliver darts beneath it, turning once more to begin picking off targets with that bow again, floating back towards where Hal hovers, giving him some cover.
"So this is turning into a nice walk in the park. Who's up for ice cream after all of this? I'm thinking rocky road."
*Twang* Another arrow is fired, another dino-bot explodes.
Monet's comment draws a tight grin from Ollie. "He's the brains sweet heart. Oh wait, no he's not," he adds, needling his old friend.
- Kyle Rayner has posed:
Kyle hits one of the beasts chasing Ollie, but that's just one. And they start swarming Kyle. That causes the energy field around him to turn into a dome. Kyle's going to play defense.
This is when he starts to fly throw the skies. Those blades cut throught he air hitting the orb. Kyle focuses the will. It's only when he thinks of a counter measure that an idea hits him.
<<"Ollie. Want to be my gunner? I can fly to you, pull you into the orb. I'll focus on flight and Defense. You focus on offense. You tell me where to open up a slot in our protective orb, you make the shot. Use your gifts for defensive if something makes it through the porthole.>> Kyle tosses out the idea.
It's not the right Lantern for that Brave and Bold idea, but it could still be a good combo.
- Billy Batson has posed:
Shazam has a power few suspect. Well Mary does. His mentors have a nice little condo in his head. This includes the Mighty Achilles who often gives Shazam some good advice. In fact he was giving Shazam the advice while he was lying quietly under the lava and several melting dino robots. Shazam bursts from the lava, a little red in the face. He knocks a bit more lava out of his ear and then says over the mind link, "Let's divert the lava onto the bots! And the fortress. He grabs the hem on his cape making it into a scoop and forces lava to cascade onto some bots.
- M'gann M'orzz has posed:
With Shazam in a better position to take care of himself, M'gann flashes a smile at him and sends him some good vibe thought waves before turning to deal with the most prominent issue. Lava portals. Because of course, lava portals. She flies up to join Hal, glancing at him and smiling, "Perhaps I can help..."
Lifting both hands, she adds her telekinetic ability to help reinforce Hal's shield, the one that's protecting them from the flow of lava. The strain of keeping both Oliver's telekinetic flight up while also bolstering the lava shield forces her back into tangibility, dropping one of her personal defenses to help with the group defense.
The idea tossed out by Shazam has her looking towards Hal once more, "If you want to open a hole in the shield, I can funnel it towards the skull, it might make things a little easier on both of us. Less square footage to cover." And if Hal agrees, M'gann will shift her telekinetic bolstering into forming a funnel of sorts that will pour that lava over the skull-headed entrance to the IJL's lair.
- Hal Jordan has posed:
Clearly there is a method to all of this madness and the endgame here is not hard to guess at, given the actions of the Injustice League in the recent past. To be sure they have taken the opportunity to strike at their enemies when they have had a clear advantage or the element of surprise -- like at Gorilla City or up on the Watchtower.
Otherwise they have generally done their best to delay and distract while they beat a hasty retreat, moving on to wherever their next fallback position might be.
And once more that would seem to be the case here. Both Monet and M'gann have formidable telepathic abilities and while the skull-head fortress appears to be fairly heavily shielded against even psychic intrusion -- it helps to have both sorceresses and technological geniuses in one's company -- there is enough of a psychic imprint out there to suggest that the number of conscious, sentient minds within said fortress is rapidly diminishing, no doubt emplying the same sort of portals that cascade lava upon them from above to escape from this latest base.
But not without taking at least one more shot at trying and kill their foes in that downpour of magma.
Or at least keep them too occupied to do much else but fight to survive.
It is a pretty good strategy all things considered.
But they are not without their own strategy.
Hal's Will is like a fortress in and of itself, comparable to any of his thousands Green Lantern collegues. Reinforced by Miss Martian's telekinetic power, that dome holds and with Shazam providing his own suggestion, Hal musters up a tight grin.
"Alright, lets see if we can make their own life a little more difficult. "Ion, Arrow, M, see what you can do about keeping the dinos off of us," he suggests.
And just like that, the green glowing dome above them begin to develop holes. Not all willy nilly or anything. There is a method to that madness there and each 'hole' that opens in the shield above promptly leads to a green chute of concentrated will that directs the falling lava into channels. Channels that wash out towards concentrated packs of the dinosaurs on the cavern flow, that molten rock plunging down over them, melting them in mere moments despite their armored shell.
Other chutes send torrents of that heated liquid rock flooding towards the black, skull-like fortress at the far end of the cavern, the sheer heat beginning to eat away at the outer shell of that structure and maybe given whomever is left inside something to think about.
Meanwhile, the melting parts of the dino-bots continue to congeal, to seek each other out as that silvery pool of liquid metal begins to get larger and larger...
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Getting ready to yank anyone out of the awy that's at risk from the lava, Monet St. Croix goes to mentally send to Hal <<Yes, Sir>> Even as she looks over at the dinos. Good dinos, sweet dinos, no dinos? Her head goes through that at a very, very rapid pace. Almost like the micro machine man of yore as thoughts go through so fast..
<<I'm only able to get through a -little- bit>> Sometimes telepathy requires finesse. Sometimes brute force. Monet is more of the second type as she goes to just try and find the most focused of those thoughts - clustered about sa they may or may not be, and goes to try and give it as hard a shove as she can along the link - presuming there's anything along the other end. Whether it's a demon, an imp, this realm's incarnation of Control Freak.. She just wants to try and find the largest mass of sentience and give it a brutal slap across the face. WHile also missing out the seemingl inevitable merger of the dino-bots into Volcano-Con.
- Oliver Queen has posed:
While Miss Martian's gift of flight has helped considerably, there is a whole heck of a lot to keep track of. And while Green Arrow might pride himself on his situational awareness, keeping tabs on a host of dinosaurs - some flying, some on the ground - along with flying lava is a lot. Flying around in a green bubble of force? That has a certain appeal.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Ollie agrees with a brief grin for Kyle, waiting for that bubble to form around them while he takes a quick stockpile of his remaining arrows. Enough to make a difference at least.
Then he is aloft once more, this time with considerably more protection, occasionally calling out where he needs a gap in that otherwise near impregnatable bubble, launching out arrows out arrows, adding cyro-freeze arrows, glue arrows, and corrosive arrows to the previous mix of exploding and taser arrows as he starts to take down targets of opportunity along with any dinos that get too close to Ion.
Finally he launches an EMP arrow into the middle of a pack of robo-raptors, the tip exploding in a burst of electro-magnetic energy that renders the half dozen or so dinos inert.
"Mmmm, is anyone else seeing that big puddle of liquid metal gathering together down there? I'm thinking that can't be a good thing."
- Kyle Rayner has posed:
Kyle flies with a few beasts in pursuit, he'll slow a little and when one goes in for a bite, spikes form on the orb. Looking like a giant Mace Head, Kyle keeps flying toward Ollie. Green energy will Lance out to the archer and pull him into the orb. Once inside, Kyle's responsive with opening the target points. Sometimes he'll open a hole thanjks to a quick look, so Ollie doesn't need to call where.
"You heard Highball. Let me know if the quiver gets low. I have a backup for you," and then Kyle starts to change directon going closer to Hal. -If- Ollie runs out of arrows, Kyle will create green constructrs. They'll look like arrows, but when they're shot the "arrows" will fire like energy projectiles. A best of both world defense. Still requires less will. That's -If-, Ollie runs out.
- Billy Batson has posed:
Shazam drops his cape when he hears the Emerald Archer's observation. He takes a deep breath. It indeed does not look like a good thing. It looks like a T-1000 from those Terminator movies. Well it looks melted already. Lava probably won't work.
Bolts of lightning arc from Shazam's fingers downward into the pool of metal. In fact it's about Shazam's best work with lightning. Of course this requires his complete concentration but the EMP arrow gave him some breathing room.
He's enjoying his work. The Power of Zeus may be his favorite.
- M'gann M'orzz has posed:
With Oliver safely ensconsed in Kyle's bubble construct, M'gann pulls back the telekinesis she'd had wrapped around him, adding it towards helping bolster and funnel the flow of lava aimed towards robots and lair alike. It also frees her up to be a little more offense.
Those bots still chasing after Ollie and Kyle are focused in on and she reaches out an open hand, catching one of the pteranodons mid-air and pulling it towards her telekinetically, only to crush its head between her own super strength and the tactile telekinesis backing it. Letting the 'body' fall, she turns the majority of her attention back to the shield and the funnels.
Mention of pooling liquid has her frowning, looking where Ollie points and letting out a sigh, "Someone has been watching entirely too many movies... isn't this straight out of that Terminator movie? Not the first one, the one where Robert Patrick is the bad Terminator?" She glances to Hal, "Should we try to shift the funnel near the lair to pour over that growing puddle of robo-goo?"
- Hal Jordan has posed:
While Shazan might be turning his attention towards that increasingly large puddle of metallic goo that seems to be congealing together down on the floor, it is not as if he doesn't still have plenty of cover to deal with that falling lava given Hal and M'gann's efforts.
Indeed, that lava continues to pour out, washing over the dinos and the dark fortress in equal measure, at least until further attention is drawn towards that metallic puddle.
"Worth a shot," Hal agrees, directing a few of those spouts in that direction, trying to drown that growing puddle in sheer molten rock, letting it cascade down over the shimmering surface that does indeed seem oddly reminscent of a Terminator movie.
That effort os joined by Shazam who calls up the lighting, blasts arching down through the cavern opening, illuminating the entire area as they lash out at that puddle, sending shimmers of energy cascading all around it.
Meanwhile Kyle and Ollie continue to patrol the perimeter, keeping the few remaining dinos at bay, giving them time to work. At least as much as they can at any rate. Fewer and fewer dinos are able to launch themselves at the pair, the laser blasts and gouts of fire becoming an increasingly rare thing that they need to avoid as they whittle down those numbers.
The great spouts of lava directed towards that fortress has another positive side effect -- at least when it comes to Monet's efforts. All that molten rock significant'y damages the outer walls of that base of operations and with that damage, the psychic shielding that was in place is compromised, giving M telepathic access to those few within. The psychic slap is indeed effective, and as she lashes out with that mental assault she can feel a pair of figures cry out in pain before she manages to render them unconscious before they can escape through the portals within.
Up above -- whether because the sorceresses have retreated or because the lava has been turned against them, the portals sending those torrents of lava at them abruptly close, vanishing, the last of that falling, glowing liquid rock directed away by the glowing green spouts.
For a moment it seems that might be the end of it, that they might have dealt with everything they need to. The floor is virtually covered in lava now, coating that puddle of liquid metal. But after a moment something roils beneath the surface. Then, forming up out of the lava, a huge glimmering dino shape congeals and emerges, shooting upward and literally breaking through the roof of the cavern. The towering Mecho-Saurus gives a boneshattering roar as the roof of the cavern begins to fall all around them.
It is damaged at least. Pieces of it are missing, burned away by the magma and the lightning. But dozen's of taloned limbs just from it's shimmering body, lashing out at all of those around it.
- Oliver Queen has posed:
Lovely, just lovely.
Who ordered the liquid metal dino-bot? Those things are just the worst.
With almost none of the regular dinos still up and flying about thanks to his own and Kyle's efforts, their remains seemingly absorbed by the towering monstrocity that looms up before them, swats at them with those taloned limbs, Ollie lets Ion focus on the flying and keeping from being buried by the collapsing cavern roof even while he puts the offer of energy arrows to good use, using the strategic porthole opened in that defensive bubble to begin pelting the Mecha-Saurus with those bright emerald bursts, punching holes straight through the construct.
It's effective enough, but there's a whole lot of dino there to punch holes through and the liquid metal seems to ooze back in to fill those gaps.
But each time it does, the dino seems to shrink just a little. Cutting it down to size, slowly but surely.
- Kyle Rayner has posed:
Kyle's happy they're cleaning up everything go by. "I think it's going to be smooth sailing from here!" And in that brief moment, he forgets a golden rule. Never say anything like that until you're absolutely sure the mission is done!
As if on cue there's a monsterous rumble fromdownward. A roar that souns monstorous and robotic as MEchasaurus bursts forward. "There's always a bigger GD Fish!"
And that's when Kyle just starts to lfoat back, forth, up and down, but he's never leaving am angle the duo can't shoot.
Forming at the top of the bubble is what looks like an old satellite dish. The dish moves toward the metal beast with each motion. Focusing, energy starts to go from the disk at five points. Energy gathers at the end of the actual point to the dish. Energy lances out in a big and wide beam. Kyle's totally not taking offensive ideas from the original Star WArs films.
- Monet St. Croix has posed:
Oh come ON. Monet just can't help but flat out stare over at the giant mecha monstructor that is growing up and out of the lava. Even as the sorceresses have fled, or whomever has lead them through this chaotic maelstrom of magic and monsters as the dinos showed off their might. She had fought with them through the Savage Land, through dinosaurs, through mosquitos the size of attack drones, through misery, through hours trecking through the jungle and everything else..
Then the volcano, then the lava, now THIS. And then they were being abandoned while whomever it was simply fled as if they were no longer interested in what was going on.
And Monet St. Croix let out a SCREAM. The scream of the enraged, maddened, having finally hit thier limit. What follows is a widely broadcast telepathic pronouncement of extremely graphic threats of a highly explicit, brutal, and horrific nature that would be inflicted upon said entity's primary avatar of being in a permanent manner that could not be healed or avoided.
Sometimes a girl just needs to let it all out.
- Billy Batson has posed:
Shazam sees the monster with many arms emerge from the lava. A monster like the demon of old who tore the muscle and sinews from Zeus and left him stricken. Perhaps though, Achilles' Courage is greater than Zeus. What did Zeus ever have to be brave for besides Chronos, who he mostly hid from then ambushed? Zeus supplies the name and Billy utters it through Shazam. "Down, Typhon!!!" Then Shazam streaks at it rocking the cavern with a sonic boom.
- Hal Jordan has posed:
While everyone else is busy dealing with the liquid metal dinosaur, Miss Martian gives them all the chance to do so, using her mastery over her telekinetic force to deflect the largest chunks of rock and earth away from them, letting them plunge into the sea of molten lava that now completely engulfs the cavern below them.
Which gives the rest of them a chance to unleash their full might.
Ollie's arrows harrass it, diminishing it, forcing it to spend resources just to keep intact. Whether it can hear Monet's psychic screams is an open question, but if so, that might have to worry even a construct of this nature.
Hal and Kyle would seem to have a similar notion and while Ion's Death Star like beam lashes out from one side, Hal dispenses with the theatrics in this particular instance, free hand still gripping the wrist of his ring hand, holding it steady as he simply pours pure, concentrated Will through his ring, directing a beam of force at the other side of the construct.
The liquid metal glows brightly, an emerald hue building up within. But before it has the chance to reach it's final burst, before the monstrous construct can find a way through their defenses, Shazam is there, streaking down straight at -- then through -- the creature, blowing it apart in a shower of shimmering metal droplets.
Mission accomplished.
Yes, the bulk of the Injustice League escaped. Again. But they have driven them out of another of their refuges and upon searching it, they find that M's psychic attacks rendered the Key and Metallo unconscious before they could escape, allowing them to be taken into custody. Like Slaughter Swamp and Gorilla City before it, the Savage Land is no looger open for the Injustice League to hide.
