One Afternoon in High-Town
Date of Scene:	28 May 2021
Location:	Imperial Mirror Hotel, High-Town, Madripoor.
Synopsis:	The Outsiders spend an afternoon in a high-town Madripoor hotel.

Conner Kent has posed:
It has been a while since the Outsiders have received any instructions from the Big Bat. Maybe because Tim seems so distant lately, busy with Robin solo stuff (probably it is a phase - one never knows with Gothamites).

Whatever the case, they had a mission for the weekend. Looks like some foreign crime-lord was planning to smuggle a lot of super-tech weapons to Gotham, likely with the idea of distributing them over the East Coast. Gotham criminals were saving big money, even usually very anti-social ones, like Mr. Freeze, had been gathering money, usually through robbery, extortion and kidnapping. More work for the Bats. More shootouts in the streets.

Well, usually there would be a methodical investigation and then Batman would fall like a ton of bricks on the bad guys, having the perfect plan.

But the already nasty streets of Gotham were getting nastier. Batman is busy, and so he sent the kids to deal with the weapon problem. To Madripoor, with a short list of warehouses and ships to check in one single night.

But it is not night yet. And someone (Tim, probably) has booked a few hotel rooms for the Outsiders. Which brings us here.

To the Imperial Mirror. On the top floors of a 100 floor skyscraper overlooking Buccaneer's Bay. A modern luxury hotel out of Sci-fi movie. Bedrooms larger than most city parks, an indoor pool in the main room, fully stocked bar (no 'you need to be this old to drink' laws in Madripoor) and... it is just too much. No one should have so much. Yes, of course Madripoor is the place where the American super-rich come to spend their vacations time, and never tell anyone outside their circles about.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen came in a bit later than the others, but with Bart, he does not have to wait for planes, trains or automobiles. The young man made a couple stops along the way and has a suitcase with him with stickers from different countries, cause they are supposed to look like that. He has checked out the hotel room and found his room. He comes out and says "Ok, so we going in stealthy?" He disappears and is back in his ninja outfit "Or high society?" Again off and back with a tux and a martini "Shaken not stirred?" He is off and back again "Or we just going in as ourselves and stopping them?" He is in jeans and a houses and humans t-shirt, looking through the minibar.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
    "I think this is supposed to be a quiet, stealthy mission." states the team killjoy and homebody, as she eyeballs one of the bottles of liquor like it insulted her parentage, and she puts it back. She's wearing her normal jeans and T-shirt, her 'business suit' tucked away in a specially prepared piece of luggage. She's had her hair freshly braided, and the girl loos over to Bart as she delivers an amused look at the quickchange.

    "Don't know what the appeal of this stuff is anyway."

Conner Kent has posed:
Conner has been rather quiet since they got to the hotel. Which is odd for him, usually he babbles almost as much as Bart. But he has also been looking through the windows quite a bit.

"You know," he comments after a while, "the wikipedia said Madripoor has only a million inhabitants. But there is a shanty town around the... I guess the downtown with the skyscrapers. I think four or five million is more accurate. It is big and it looks bad."

Hope Summers has posed:
Hope Summers is used to the fancy luxuries of the Outsiders loft, but this place is sooo much more. Why, she can't help but feel rather awkward and out of place, even without her usual ragged cloak. But at least she's wearing more or less normal but no less ragged attire of faded blue jeans, black tshirt with a hole or two in it, and well worn running shoes. It's nice and warn so layers aren't necessary and she peers around in wide eyed wonder at every thing she sees. "Wooow, this place is A-mazing .." she murmurs.

Hope tends to travel light but did carry a small suitcase with necessities. Yknow, her big gun, costume, stuff like that.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks through the bar "They need more nuts, and such, thought they supposed to have like all kinds of rare ones, all I found was caviar and Foie gras," He makes a blah face, and will sigh, "Must have to order the food up or something." He looks moves to Conner and says "I could go count them, but not sure if it would help or they would put it on the website."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
    "... it is. Madripoor has a lot of difference between the very rich and the very poor. Some hotels frost their windows so that you're not able to see the slums." Phoebe replies to Conner, turning to look at him. She frowns.

    "I was told to not wander there. Having someone who can heal the sick is a good way to both get credit on the street and keep your gang alive." she remarks, crossing her arms as she goes to lean against the wall near Conner.

    "... I could go out and Starfish."

Conner Kent has posed:
"I don't know, Bart," replies Conner with a shrug. "I mean, I don't think the Wikipedia stuff on Latveria is very accurate either."

What Phoebe can see is... not much. Lowtown looks colourful and picturesque from the high. One would need enhanced senses to notice the misery, the filth, see the scrawny children playing on the streets, or sense the smell of rot. They are too far away. Like in another planet.

Hope Summers has posed:
Hope Summers oohs, "Soo, when's lunch? I'm starved, this place is amazing, how are we even able to afford all this?" she chuckles, "And I can't wait to see our rooms! How long will we be staying in town? There's so much to explore!"

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over and says "Oh, Rob has a bank roll for missions, I think they print money, that or maybe they are on the space stock market, and make tons on money." He will buzz back into his room and come out with a Mandipor for dummies book and a translation book. He will pick up the phoen and starts speaking in the local dialect sorta.

Conner Kent has posed:
"I think we will be leaving in the morning," offers Conner. "So, don't get too attached. As for paying, you know Tim is very wealthy, right? That or Batman is hacking the Hotel databanks and they think we are Wakandan royalty or something."

Hope is right about food, though. Something tells Conner they are not going to find frozen pizzas in the fridge. There was a restaurant in the 99th floor. But a brief glance to their outfits decides him against the idea of suggesting going up there.

"Maybe I can fly out and get some food?" He suggests. "There must be a burger or something down there. What is typical Malaysian food?"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
    Not so different than the poorer part in her own city. Gotham nibbles at the edges of her mind as the G-Town native frets.

    She's also somewhat jetlagged. It was obvious she didn't like to travel in the first place.

    "... /none/ of us are the right type for Wakandan royalty." she replies with a slight smile to Conner, and gives him a very light punch in the shoulder as she passes by.

    "It's noodles, rice noodle wraps, a bit like Thai, less spicy though, I think?" she states, considering her own experiences back home.

    "And yeah, Batman is probably bankrolling the mission."

Hope Summers has posed:
Hope Summers smirks. Of course. Tim sure is generous though. She glances at the key she was given and yawns, "Well after all the travelling, I could do with a nap. And yeah, maybe we should go out for food or..If you can find a place?" she nods to Conner. "Butmaybe we can do some exploring later?"

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen hangs the phone up and says "I ordered like 3 of everything on the first 3 pages that was not served alive, or was just eww." He makes a face at some of the things they offered. "We can still go out if ya want, I can always have it for a late night snack."

Conner Kent has posed:
"Guys, we only have four hours before dusk," points out Conner. "Then we have a lot of places to check at the harbor. It is a big harbor, I doubt we will have time for snacks, or sightseeing, or shopping."

And Bart already called for food? "I guess we get to try the local cuisine, after all"

And to Phoebe he turns and looks indignant. "What do you mean? I am totally Black Panther twice removed cousin!"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
    Phoebe just staaaaares at Conner.

    "You know what, given the rest of the group? Why not." she states, and gives a laugh as she looks out over the room. "Just eat light. I'll need to eat after we get back."

Hope Summers has posed:
Hope Summers arches a brow at Bart and smirks, "Heh, I should have known...Sooo what did you order?" she nods to Conner. "Right. Soo, aside from bringing up our divestiture on, what should we do in the meantime?"

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over, and says "Well I got about 3 dozen different types of sushi, some steaks, and peaking duck, and these filled rolls, and some tofu things, I did not get t he deadman tofu, that stuff stinks. " He looks over to Conner, and says "I always got time to eat, and better to not go into a mission be sneaking and given away cause stomach is growling. You remember that time, in central city." He nods to his friend.

Conner Kent has posed:
Conner glances Hope, why is she asking him? It gives him ideas. "I don't know. Maybe try the pool? Have a nap? Try to figure out what is the food Bart just bought? Watch a movie? Go over mission details? Tim would say we should do that." But they did it on the flight here; it was several hours even in the Outsiders jet. Not that it has ever stopped Tim.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
    "Well, as long as the mee see oo is vegan I should be fine with that." Phoebe states as she hops up on the counter, giving a little smile to Bart.

    "Too bad I didn't pack my fancy dress. We might have made a good pair." she jokes.
