Profile
Doctor Lasariel Weiss is an artistic wonder that has been in and out of the spotlight for a number of years do to her creations and her sometimes macabre and odd designs. She's rumored to be working on a set of sculptures at the moment that will outdue her previous creations, but those will come in due time. She's a bright and cheery woman despite her subject matter, having been noted as a patron to many charities in New York, Gotham and various other locations. On the not so mundane side of things she's got a bit of angelic power about her...and she's not even sure why. It's a mystery that she and others intend to find out.
Timeline
Timeline:
*1990: October - Born to Andriana Basotini, a professor of Archaeology at Cornell University.
Apparently she was a surprise.
*1990: Unknown to her mother is that she was 'created' to be a
living manifestation of The Moon tarot card by the Angel Meleos.
*1992: Becomes deathly ill,
discovered to have a unique physiology. Gets better miraculously overnight. Doctors are
stunned.
*1995: Starts showing a great aptitude for creating art.
*1998: Mother is asked to
consult on a dig in Rome near the grounds of the Vatican and moves there for work
temporarily.
*1996: Goes to school in Rome while her mother is working on her dig.
*1999:
Kidnapped by what could only be described as a religious cult.
*2000: Recovered by an unknown
individual and was reunited with her mother.
*2001: Returned to the United States with her
mother.
*2001: Diagnosed with PTSD due to her ordeal overseas.
*2001: Magic tutelage begins
due to the situation in Rome.
*2002: Starts having prophetic 'visions'.
*2003: Moves to
private schooling while trying to get a handle on her new mental situation.
*2004: Art therapy
becomes a big part of her life.

into an honors program at school.

Defers college for a year to travel with her mother and work on her art.

display. Her mother seems to know the man.
*2016: She becomes a bit suspicious when Mister Weiss
seems to know so much about her past and future.
*2017: Enters the Doctoral process.
*2018:
Loses her mother to cancer. Inherits her estate and a lot of Occult knowledge plus family secrets
that she was not prepared to unearth.
*2018 August: Moves her mothers research, library,
artifacts on Angels and Demons to a secure place.
*2018: November: There is a break in at the
warehouse she owns, but only some records were stolen.
*2019: Hires a bodyguard.
*2019: Debuts
a macabre art gallery at her warehouse studio just ahead of Halloween.
*2020: January: Runs into
Mister Weiss again at a gallery show where he alludes to knowing who her father is. He abruptly
vanishes after that.
*2020: March: An anonymous Patron puts in a commission for a painting series
of the Major Arcana of the tarot.
*August: Starts work on an angel sculpture that is unnamed and
has some art critics in awe.
*2020: October: Starts work on demon sculpture to go along with the
angel she is working on.
*2021: January: Finishes Doctoral Program
*2021: February: Starts
work on illustrating a number of works while she is taking a break from her sculptures.
*2021:
August: Starts work on sculptures again.
*2021: September: Starts receiving cryptic messages and
warnings about delving in things she shouldn't.

Personality
Compassionate:
Lasariel experiences not just sympathy, but true empathy on a spiritual level. It drives her to
help people and try to reduce their suffering whenever possible. Lasariel believes that kindness and
compassion are core virtues and tends to see pain in others even when no one else does.
Humble:
Despite her talent, modest fame, and social connections, Lasariel hasn't fallen into the trap of
high society ego. She still sees herself as mostly 'regular folk' and engages with people of all
walks of life, quite equally and without discrimination or hostility.
Personality:
Lasariel Weiss is a fairly level headed thirty year old that has a lot of talent and is fairly
angelic from what most folks who meet her will say. Due to her past she doesn't trust easily, but
that doesn't mean she's mean to strangers, quite the opposite. Just don't ask her to go into any
dark alleyways with you. That's not happening.

Powers
Astral Access:
Given Asariel's angelic heritage she is able to come and go from the Astral realms with ease.
Magic:
She has a natural gift for the arcane, both as a Nephilim and as the daughter of a potent sorceress. Her mother started her teachings from an early age and Lasariel developed her natural talents with years of practice. Her mother and father ensured she was represented as part of the Tarot of the Moon. She has a natural ability to create illusions and conceal things from view. Simple tasks like hiding someone or creating a static illusion can be done relatively easily. Concealing scents and sounds, making large-scale illusions, or trying to track multiple objects and people at once pushes the limits of her capabilities. Lasariel can also channel Angelfire, the white light of Heaven. This can be used as either a fearsome attack against demons and undead, or to heal and soothe badly injured mortals. Angelfire is fueled by her own life force and it is possible for her to drain herself to the point of death if she's careless with these energies.
Prophetic:
Lasariel has been known to see things before they happen. Like many prophets, her insights are often either vague to the point of being useless, or so narrowly specific that people are skeptical about their utility. Once in a while it turns out to be something of great import and of a confidential nature, which prompts the police to show up and demand an explanation of why she has privileged information relating to a crime.
Senses:
When Lasariel was a little girl she noticed peculiar tingling in her neck or pains in her chest. Only recently has she discovered this is her body reacting to the presence of an angelic or abyssal entity. The sensation is quite vague and she would not likely be able to point at someone in a crowd as the source of this sixth sense.
Superhuman Strength:
Asariel's angelic heritage allows her to call upon her creators own ability to boost her strength. While Meleos' is a constant thing, Asariel has to call on it given she's just starting out using it. When she does call upon it though she can lift cars, put things through walls, all that fun stuff! She's not as strong as the main line heroes though, so she won't be hurling planets at anyone.
Unique Physiology:
Lasariel's father Meleos created her to be the embodiment of The Moon of the Tarot. Her angelic heritage gives her both vitality and exceptional health and well-being. It also makes her more aesthetically appealing and radiates an aura that tends to encourage people to confide in her. Her Nephilim metabolism saved her from a severe infection as a child and she has been the embodiment of good health since then. She can recover rapidly and completely from even severe injuries, as long as she isn't killed. This might explain why she has no scars or scrapes to speak of.
Wings:
A rarity among Nephilim, Lasariel has angelic wings. They are not apparent when 'folded', and manifest on demand without damaging her clothing or environment. She is unaware of these limbs, and they are perceptible only to creatures sensitive to illusions and angelic energies.
Skills
Accounting:
She's taken an accounting class and running the numbers for sales soothes her. She might be a little insane given no one really likes keeping track of books and such, but she does. It has become a part of life when you are an artist and extremely wealthy to boot.
Art:
When your father created you to be good at something in a mystical way it is safe to say that you're probably going to be GREAT at it. On a mundane level and supernatural level she is a master sculpture and painter. It's caught a lot of attention and is something that she embraced. She went to college for Art History and obtained her Doctorate recently. She likes to keep up with new styles, colors and everything that goes with art.
Artistry:
Much like her father, Meleos, Lasariel is deeply attuned to the idea of artistic creation. She especially prefers painting and sculpture, switching between the two when she hits a creative brick wall that she can't power through. With time, her talent might make her one of the greatest artists in history.
Enochian:
Lasariel is perfectly conversant in Common Enochian, the vulgate language of the Heavenly Host. Lasariel can also read and write it. She was told by her mother that she shouldn't let too many people know this, as it is a secret.
Languages:
Lasariel is fluent in English and Common Enochian, and has some conversational skill in Italian and Romanche due to her time spent in Rome as a child.
Martial Arts:
Her mother insisted on her starting to learn how to protect herself after she was abducted. They had to find the right teacher and the right style for her. She took to Judo fairly quickly and currently still trains with her instructors. She is a red belt currently.
Occult Knowledge:
Lasariel's mother amassed a fair amount of occult knowledge on Angels, Demons and otherworldly entities. This knowledge passed to Lasariel when she came of age, and the Nephilim girl has continued her own research and education ever since. Lasariel has gone ghost hunting, tracked cryptids, and pursued angels and demons both. Her own growing body of research is well-documented and neatly filed in her personal library.
Research:
Though a liberal arts major, Lasariel spent a great deal of time studying angelic mythology under a noted Doctor of Anthropology at Yale. She is a very talented researcher and investigator thanks to this tutelage, and is willing to help people with their own research projects if she's interested in the topic or the stakes for success are sufficiently high.
Resources
Art History Doctorate:
Lasariel holds a PhD in Art History, and thanks to her connections through Yale she is well networked among both modern art communities and historical research centers. Though she can theoretically teach collegiate classes, Lasariel is usually too consumed with her own work to devote energy to a full-time teaching schedule.
Bodyguard:
Lasariel's personal bodyguard is a former soldier of the Italian army. He has been in her employ for several years and has proven himself to be professional, trustworthy, and discreet, and attends Lasariel nearly full-time during her regular work week. He keeps a polite distance when Lasariel is at social events, but he's never more than a few steps away from intervening if someone gets too close or violent with his ward.
Contacts:
Lasariel's education and expertise have given her a chance to assist or be assisted by various groups in her life. She has a few contacts within the NYPD and the GCPD that she's built a working relationship with over the years, mostly dealing with the black market of stolen art and antiquities. This also keeps her plugged into high society in New England and she is well-regarded as a curator-for-hire among the social elite in New York and Gotham. Though she doesn't advertise it, Lasariel also has plenty of connections in the underbelly of the art trafficking black market as well as the occult underworld.
High Society:
Besides being beautiful and charming, Lasariel's art regularly reaches the high six-figure range. She also donates to charities and can be seen supporting them when she's not working or soaking in the limelight. All of this helps her stay in the good graces of the upper crust of society in the major cities of New England.
Occult Library:
Her mother amassed a lot of occult knowledge on Angels, Demons and things from other realms. This was something that was left to her when her mother passed away. Given her own love of the occult and the macabre she?s joined the two collections of information together into a very well established library. There are several books in the library that have old rituals on how to summon a few certain demons. They've never been used.
The Silver City:
Asariel's angelic heritage grants her access to the Silver City. Which is not known to the other angels, but will be soon. The Source knows that its grandchild can access it now, as does her creator, Meleos.
Warehouse Gallery:
The same year her mother died, Lasariel purchased a dilapidated office space in Brooklyn and refurbished it. It has a private gallery on the first floor, offices on the second, and the third floor is her private apartment. The rooftop garden is her personal retreat and a haven away from the rest of the world when she needs it.
Wealth:
Lasariel is not ever hurting for money. Her personal net worth is in the low seven figures thanks to sales of her high-demand artwork, along with a substantial inheritance Lasariel inherited upon her month's passing. Thanks to generous consulting fees from New York's elite looking for an artist's eye to furnish their homes she never wants for work, either. She likes nice clothes, buys the best art supplies, and stays very active in charitable social circles. It would take an extreme situation to bankrupt her and force her out of her current setup.
Weaknesses
Claustrophobic:
Due an abduction when she was younger, Lasariel panics in confined spaces. Even dense crowds in closed rooms can trigger an anxiety attack. She can soldier on if she must but it's difficult to miss the stress such situations cause her.
Fearful:
Though not cowardly, Lasariel struggles with PTSD and anxiety due to a kidnapping attempt on her life as a child. She eschews physical contact and reacts with alarm if she's cornered or even temporarily restrained. Dense crowds can trigger anxiety attacks and she sometimes comes across as stiff or standoffish when someone offers her a hug or shake of the hand.
Identity Crisis:
When one finds out that they are a creation they don't know if the things that they like or even their looks are due to their liking or the creators liking. This has caused a new problem for Asariel...something she doesn't like.
Mortality:
While she might have longer life and powers, she is able to die.
Nephilim:
Nephilim are very rare and the lore about them is inconsistent and sometimes contradictory. While she doesn't know her true origins, she has her suspicions. But she keeps these to herself-- telling a therapist you think you're part angel makes things a little weirder than she'd prefer.
Ptsd:
After being abducted in Rome, Lasariel developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She has night terrors and nightmares due these events. She's never really spoken with anyone about it outside of her psychiatrist, but it dogs her regularly and makes it difficult to deal with certain situations, people, or environments where she feels trapped and encumbered.
Tunnel Vision:
Lasariel is prone to bouts of obsession with particularly interesting projects and may forget to eat, sleep, or keep up with her hygiene while in the midst of such work.
Unique Physiology:
Nephilim are very rare and there are many myths and legends about them. Unfortunately this means that the market for Nephilim body parts is a brisk one. Between the healing power of angel feathers and the purifying nature of Nephilim blood, there are both preternatural and occult agents who would pay a tidy sum for Lasariel-- dead or alive.
Unknown Origins:
Lasariel does not know for certain what her origins are (though she has her suspicions). Her recently-deceased mother was not forthcoming with details and she never knew her father. Lasariel does not know that she is Nephilim, and there is a decided lack of paternal presence in her life because of her father's absenteeism.
Zealots:
There are a lot of competing interests and religious groups interested in the status quo of what belongs on earth or in Heaven. Some tried to kill Lasariel when she was a child and she is sure that there are others out there still looking for her. Her bodyguard and professional management go to some lengths to protect her privacy but her time in the public eye makes true safety nearly impossible.
