Balder is a son of Odin and a prince of Asgard. His entire life has been rooted in protection and war, despite wanting neither. His death causes Ragnarok, the end of all life in the Nine Realms and the fall of Asgard. He doesn't let this slow him down, and instead charges ahead through life with blade in hand. A stalwart son of Asgard, he appears before the face of any evil that threatens his home or those under his protection. Worshipped as a god by the Vikings and Asgardians both, Welcomed as a hero across the realms, Beware the cry of Balder the Brave. Beware the shining light.

Timeline

Timeline:
790 AD - Balder Odinson is born to Odin Borson, Allfather and King of Asgard, and Queen Frigga. It is heralded as soon as he is born that his death will cause a chain of events that lead immediately to Ragnarok, thus Odin commanded Frigga to enchant Balder's body to protect him from any harm.

800 AD - Balder abandons his first battle to put a bird back in it's nest. Odin is furious with him and the other Asgardians chastize him for his kind heart.

830 AD - Due to Balder's bravery in battle, never flinching despite harm coming his way (and unknowing that he couldn't be hurt) earns him the title of Bravest in Asgard. Later, Balder wields great proficiency in commanding light and fire, along with incredible insight. He earns the position of God of Light and Prophecy.

900 AD - Hodr is tricked by Loki into shooting Balder with an arrow made of mistletoe, the only material that can breach Balder's invulnerability. Odin kept Balder from death.

950 AD - Balder becomes close friends with his older brother Thor and looks up to him. He swears to Thor that he will protect him from any foe and fight beside him through any battle. It is also during this time that the Vikings begin to worship Balder as the God of Light, Prophecy, and Peace.

960 -> 1900 AD - Balder fights and leads numerous battles for Asgard against it's enemies, namely against Musphelheim and Jotunheim, including one against the demon king called Surter. He gains his greataxe called Svraden.

1950 AD - Balder gains the aid of Karnilla and briefly wields the Norn Stones against Asgard's enemies.

1960 -> 2010 - Balder rests. Instead, he works towards bringing peace to all the realms under his careful watch.

2012 - The invasion of the Dominators attacks earth. Balder rides into battle from Asgard and helps repel the invaders.

2018 - Learning of his adopted brother Loki's invasion of Midgard, Balder once again rides into battle, joining the efforts of the Avengers, the Justice League, and other heroes. Alas, Balder joins no teams in the end, and instead returns to Asgard.

2020-present - Balder remains in Asgard, though occasionally comes down to Midgard to keep an eye on the 'modern' world.

Personality

Brave:
Balder's namesake. In olden days, when vikings still raided coastal lands and established territory against natural and supernatural creatures alike, sure they made prayers to Gods of war, weather, and wisdom...but they also prayed to Balder for courage and bravery in battle. Balder bends his knee to no foe, no matter how great or terrifying. He doesn't yield, and he doesn't quit.

Compassionate:
Balder is a kind soul. He rarely says a harmful word to others and he is always the 'peace keeper' of the family, maybe even his entire realm. Balder is slow to anger and is quick to forgive, adding to a naivete that few people possess. It is both a wonderful attribute and a terrible curse.

Humble:
Unlike many Asgardians, Balder rarely boasts about his achievements. He is not one to talk over someone else and tends to think of himself rather poorly. This comes across as 'shy' to other Asgardians, but in times of strife and when needed? Balder comes out of his shell and shines like a leader should.

Character Sheet

Powers

Allspeak:
Balder is an Asgardian and possesses the Allspeak. Any language is the nine realms is able to be communicated and be understood by Balder, including some alien languages as well.

Beauty:
Balder possesses a supernatural beauty, like some force is enhancing what is already there.

Danger Sense:
Balder possesses a 'sixth sense'. He can tell when danger is approaching, and the feeling extends to his closest allies and his brothers, and knows when they are in danger as well.

Healing Factor:
Balder heals extremely quickly, even for an Asgardian. He heals from broken bones within a few hours and most injuries that others would consider lethal within a few days. However, despite the potency of his ability to recover, he is unable to recover lost limbs or organs without outside assistance.

Invulnerability:
Odin and Frigga both took great pains to ensure that Balder does not come into death's clutches. While on Asgard, it is impossible to cause Balder harm. He cannot be killed, he cannot be maimed, and he cannot even be injured...but that is only while he is on Asgard.

On Midgard and other realms or planets, Balder is not invincible, but he does possess a measure of invulnerability that is difficult to push past. Bullets of the highest caliber don't phase him and most blades, even Asgardian, would sooner break than cut. However, beings of similar or greater strength are capable of hurting him, as well as weapons composed of unique metals such as Vibranium, Adamantium, so on.

Magic:
Balder is skilled in Aesir and Vanir magic, though perhaps not nearly as much as his adopted brother or even his mother, but it is no insult to his skill. He is capable of using magic to teleport across the Nine Realms, most commonly between Earth and Asgard. He is capable of minor illusion spells, being able to disguise himself as a different humanoid being when necessary. He is able to create enchanted fogs to cover visibility and hide others through greenery and other natural phenomenon.

He can use magic to form protective barriers that can survive even Thor's lightning.

Photokinesis:
Balder is the God of Light. All forms of light as a result are at his command. He can see into the spectrums of light, and use it in his command for offensive and defensive capabilities, much greater (typically) than the capabilities of mortal users of the ability.

Offensively, He can project intense beams of light that are powerful enough to completely melt the largely impenetrible fortress of Utgard-Loki whilst on Jotunheim and reduce Frost giants to a comparable size to humans. He can concentrate light into his weapons to increase their destructive capability, or unleash light comparable to the sun to blind others. He can also condense light into explosive energy attacks, not just through beams, but through balls, waves, and blasts of energy. He can increase the heat of the area he happens to be standing in, generate fire, manipulate it for offensive means, even heat up what he happens to be touching hot enough to disintegrate a normal human being.

Defensively, Balder can create shields of light that can take -punishment-. He can extend the protection his power provides to an entire city.

Super Speed:
Balder's enhanced bone and muscle density allows him to move at incredible speeds. At maximum? He is rumored to move 'as fast as the light he commands', but he tends to peak out on foot at speeds that are blinding to the human eye, typically around 200mph while on foot, often appearing as a blur.

Super Stamina:
Balder is fueled by the things that could kill a human being. He can push himself far past the limits of what humans are capable of. While it takes him fighting for nearly 24 hours straight at peak capacity to feel the effects of fatigue, his will and ability to go on allows him to fight for far longer than most Asgardians. He could fight for days before succumbing.

Super Strength:
A son of Odin, Balder possesses physical strength far greater than most Asgardians. At present, Balder is fully capable of lifting up to roughly 50 tons, though has the capability of lifting significantly more depending on the emotional necessity of the situation or by boosting himself with Vanir magic to unimaginable levels.

Zoolingualism:
Balder possesses the ability to speak with and communicate with animals. He is able to extend himself through body language and display his intentions clearly to mark himself as not a threat. This translates to words as well, and can understand when Animals communicate with him. He's the Asgardian that birds come and land on his shoulders for no reason.

Skills

Commander:
In times of war and strife, Odin has often sent Balder to carry out battles in his name. Balder is a capable leader of armies, while not nearly to the level of his brother Tyr, he is fully capable of leading vast armies into battle and changing tactics on the fly to press on towards victory.

Diplomacy:
Balder is the Asgardian God of Peace, and as such he is arguably one of Asgard's best diplomats. He is a skilled talker, and rather talented at ending fights before they even begin by pleading with morality and choice. While not nearly as good of a talker as Loki is, Balder is no novice in his own right.

Fearless:
Balder is fearless. It isn't that he is lacking in fear, but rather he possesses an incredible strength of will, determination, and mental fortitude to keep advancing despite the danger posed to his being or others. To this end, Balder is immune to the effects of fear and boldly goes where no one is willing to go.

Warrior:
Though Balder is peaceable, he is still an Asgardian warrior who has been alive for a few millenia now. Among their finest warriors, he is noticeably masterful with axes and swords and possesses meagre mastery of other weapons, such as knives and spears.

Resources

Asgard:
Balder is a Prince of Asgard and a son of Odin himself. As a result, he bears authority across the Nine Realms while he wields Odin's banner and is in his good graces. He has unlimited access to the treasury (minus Odin's personal vault) and is a commander of legions.

Svraden:
Svraden is a weapon crafted from Uru metal and Balder's weapon of choice. It is a sword that allows him to focus and harness his divine power in a more concentrated and controlled fashion. It is sharp enough to cut through nearly anything, especially when superheated by Balder's powers. If he is disarmed of his weapon, he can simply teleport it back to his hand through force of will, so long as he is anywhere in the Nine Realms.

Weaknesses

Last Resort:
Balder is perhaps one of the only Asgardians who does not seek out war. Though he is always ready for it, he's the kind of man who would place a bird back in it's nest after it falls out of a tree, or walk a dog back home to it's owner. He appreciates the finer things in life, and as a result, combat tends to be his last resort.

Mistletoe:
Mistletoe.

The one thing in all of the Nine Realms that is absolutely lethal to Balder. When Odin and Frigga performed their various enchantments, Mistletoe was the one material that did not bend to such a law. As a result, any lethal wound struck upon Balder with any weapon composed of mistletoe is most certainly going to be the final straw for Balder.

Ragnarok:
It is a terrifying thing, to know that your death will cause the deaths of so many more. Balder is extremely guilty that his death brings forth Ragnarok, and often has a low self-esteem as a result.

Trusting:
Balder is swift to trust, even to tricksters like Loki or those who wish him ill. It's led him into many a bad situation because he's trusted the wrong person.
