Some people are sought after with milk carton names and pictures. But not so Jane Roe. She not just has no past, nobody seems to search for her, know her or even have a hunch who she might have been before she appeared in New York around January.

Vermilion is the handle that appears on dark net message boards since about mid february, offering work for hire, but is rather picky about which jobs are taken. But those jobs that are taken are executed in a rather brilliant fashion.

Timeline:
2004 - born in California as Jessica Robertson.
2014 - Parents die in an accident. Foster care.
2016 - Adopted by Sayuri Sakamoto; Moves to Urasoe/Okinawa/Japan; Name Change to Sakamoto Jeshika; Starts learning Okinawan Tokushinryu
2017-2020 - Middle- and High-school; very good scientific grades, computer club; application to Okinawan University
2021 - Death of Sayuri Sakamoto; Needs to borrow money from the Yakuza and is forced to become a hacker.
2022 - Winter: While hacking a laboratory gets her fingers on a 'reeducation' medicine that results in total amnesia. Deleting all files about it, she acquires the only samples of the drug to an address of her own and starts preparing her escape.
2023 - January: With the first cherry blossoms blooming in Okinawa, she meets with the Yakuza that force her to work for them. Spiking their drinks with the amnesia-drug and then taking a flight to New York, she leaves everything but her Laptop behind. A computer virus is let loose in all the databases she could access in the last months and erases all evidence of her former life while she is in transit. Once landed in New York, she burns her passport and takes the last dose of the amnesia-drug on an airport toilet.
When she comes to her senses the next time, she is in a hospital, feeling the EM-spectrum around her, but also with no recollection who she is, where she came from and without an identity. Within a day she finds herself on the streets, fighting for herself.

Grey Hat:
Jane's a hacker, because that's what she discovered she can do. She's not a blackhat that just hacks to make money, but she's also not a white hat that tries to defend from hacking. Instead, she hacks according to her consciousness, at times funding herself, at others to make the world a better place. While she sells her services for hard cash, she only does so if she has no ill with the agenda furthered by the hack.

Inquisitive:
Having no memories of her past, Jane tries to fill that void by investigating the world around her just as much as testing her own abilities and the limits of herself.

Without a Past:
Having no recollection or notes about who she was before the day she awoke in the hospital, Jane tries to figure out who she is... or who she wants to be. Strong willed and determined to carve her own, she might appear abrasive to shield the soft, vulnerable core.

Cyberpathy:
Her body is a biological antenna. Due to her altered neurological makeup, she can feel the EM spectrum around her and understand unencrypted traffic that passes through her body passively. As a passive sense, the range is dependent on the power of the sender - a Cellphone tower can be noticed over several miles, a bluetooth device over about 30 feet/10 meters and the minuscle EM field of an RFID only picks up within less than a foot when it interacts with her own EM field.

Technomancy:
Her altered neurochemistry acts like an extremely powerful biological computer, that intuitively interacts with other electronic devices. She can exercise administrator control on digital devices she directly touches, or which possess an active WiFi antenna and are within 20 meters (60 feet). When controlling a device, it takes considerable effort, preventing her from doing other high concentration tasks like fighting, but still leaves enough over to allow having a conversation. She can not force a device to exercise commands it is not capeable of and she can not transmit or save data in her head, though she can order a device to upload or download files from pre-prepared network storages. She can not control two normal devices at the same time, but force the controlled one to interact with other devices within its limitations.

While standard machinery yields easily, specialized computers of non-standard make require prolonged effort or additional mundane hacking and mapping to be convinced to follow her command. For Extraterrestrial designs of high complexity, such efforts might take days.

Athletics:
Physically fit, she is about on the level of a skilled sportswoman. She would have little trouble to pass the physical fitness exam for the military without extra training.

Hacker-Programmer:
She is a natural with computers and code and might have finished a master degree in computer science and network security, had she visited university. She can create and modify software, applications and utilites with ease. Finding and exploiting security holes is no problem for her, but takes some time to set up without admin access to a machine.

Kobudo:
Having trained in Okinawan Tokushinryu Kobudo peasent martial arts of many weapons, her technique might be considered with a dan-grade in this style. Among the weapons she is proficient with are various staffs, sai, tonfa, kama, nunchaku, brass knuckles, weighted chains - and thus the kusarigama.

Arsenal:
She has armed herself with a set of kobojutsu weaponry. The electrified quarterstaff and pair of likewise treated tonfas deliver the same effect as a high powered tazer while the Kusarigama serves mostly as universal tool.

Laptop:
This heavy duty, ruggedized toughbook is formatted in a non-standard way and holds her library of hacking and programming tools. Because of its special programming, it is easier for her to be controlled and requires less concentration than normal. Because of this, she can use it as a storage device for files if she touches both this machine and another device. Creating a replacement would take weeks.

Vermilon:
Under the handle Vermilon - short for Vermilon Bird - Jane offers her services on the dark web for those that pay and have an agenda she can agree with. It pays good enough to fund a modest lifestyle.

Weaknesses

Amnesia:
She can't remember any details about her past before she woke up in the Hospital. The memories are not just locked away; they are outright destroyed and can't get restored with medical, psychic or psychiatric means.

Em-Vulnerable:
Her unique neurochemistry makes her vulnerable to strong and fast shifts in electromagnetic fields. Being in a MRT will result in nausea and disorientation as well as being not able to use any of her powers for some time, while an EMP will knock her unconscious and has the potential to inflict serious damage to her.

Erased:
She had prepared her escape well and introduced code that deletes files about her former existence well. It was set up a little too well though: the computer virus will actively spread to systems that request the destroyed files and proceed its path of destruction to her past there.

White-Noise-Dependent:
Feeling the constant flow of data traffic through her body is the norm for her. Low ammounts of such traffic like in rural areas makes her anxious while a total lack of such traffic is nauseating.
