Profile
Julia Carpenter, aka Arachne, is a divorcee and mother who has spent the last few years bouncing around the country in an effort to provide a home and living for her daughter Rachel. She also happens to be an agent of The Commission, a shady government agency that authorized experimentation on unknowing subjects in an attempt to create 'supers' that could be controlled, something that she seems to be seeking to change. She has spider-like powers, though she doesn't seem to have gained them the usual way.
Timeline
Ic Journal:
* Oct 20, 2020 - I'm starting to suspect The Commission isn't quite ont he up and up. Some of the people they've sent me after don't seem like criminals, just people with the misfortune of being born mutants or made into mutates, or just.. metahumans. I've started documenting the missions, keeping them in <redacted> for safety.
* Jan 4, 2021 - I've been ordered after a young man, told he's a terrorist. He's just a scared kid.. I've documented everything per usual. But.. I went off mission. Sent the kid to people that could help him. Hide him. Val's going to be pissed at the failure.
* April 18, 2021 - I think my 'slip' has been noted. I've been given some pretty basic assignments, no 'bounty hunting'. I have to try to get back on the inside, get more information.
* May 4, 2021 - It seems to be working. I'm being sent to DC. Larry's pissed. He's threatening to take custody of Rachel. I don't think I can win that one...
* November 30, 2021 - Larry won, as expected. I couldn't account for missing times, couldn't explain what my job is... fuck. Don't worry Rachel, we'll be together again soon. I've been doing more assignments for The Commission, documenting everything. Hopefully soon I'll have enough I can DO something with it.
* May 17, 2022 - I've apparently done well enough for The Commission that Val was willing to approve a move back to California so I could be closer to Rachel. Not sure if I should be proud of that... those people. God, I wish I knew what was happening to them...
* September 12, 2022 - FUCK! FUCKFUCKFUCK. Larry's dead. My mission took me straight into Larry's path. He found out. We argued. And an old enemy took advantage to get to Larry. This is NOT how I wanted to get Rachel back. It's too hot here, we need to get out. Maybe east again... towards people that might be able to help. I think it's time to start bringing down The Commission. Sorry, Val.
* October 3, 2023: Well, it took a lot of missions, and some damn fine manipulation on my part but... I got it. We're headed to New York City. Here's hoping all these months of documenting missions will be worth something... I have to get Rachel out of this mess.
Timeline:
* 1994: Born and raised in Los Angeles, California to naturalist parents Elizabeth and Walter Cornwall.
* 2012: Graduated from high school and attended college, studying computer science. Met Larry Carpenter.
* 2014: Dropped out of college to marry college sweetheart Larry Carpenter, picked up a job in IT to help pay for his degree.
* 2015: Gave birth to daughter Rachel Carpenter.
* 2019: Divorced from Larry Carpenter, moved with Rachel to Denver.
* 2020: Invited to join an 'athletic study' by college friend Val Cooper. Gains superhuman powers from injections given in the 'study'. Begins to work for The Commission.
* 2021: Loses custody battle with ex-husband, moves to Washington DC on orders from The Commission.
* 2022: Moves back to California to be closer to her daughter. Larry Carpenter dies in an attack from an old enemy.
* 2023: Moves to New York with Rachel at request of The Commission.

Personality
Cagey:
If working for The Commission has taught Julia anything, it's to be careful with information. She can be evasive and vague when it comes to questions about herself, her past, and her activities. She's also quite excellent at deflecting those questions to turn the conversation towards others.
Caring:
Julia is a mother first and foremost, and it shows in the care she's capable of displaying. Even while being cagey about her own background and history, the warmth and care she shows to others for their own problems is genuine. She is a caretaker, and it shows, even in how she treats the strangers whose lives she might save.
Loyal:
Julia doesn't trust or love lightly, and when she does, it tends to be a lasting commitment. It was years of knowing her husband was cheating before she could bring herself to file for divorce. She's done things she doesn't agree with or believe in to protect and save her daughter. Once Julia Carpenter has given her trust, her loyalty is damn near unshakable.
Responsible:
Not only does she take her duties as a mother seriously, so to does she take her duties as a superhero seriously. Julia is not one to shirk her responsibilities or run off in the middle of mission. She sees things through the to end, no matter the repercussions to herself or her home life.

Powers
Psionic Abilities:
Some of Julia's powers and abilities are the result of latent psionic capability brought out and shaped by the sudden manifestation of her spider powers.
* Psi-Webs: Julia's webs are psionc-based rather than science or spider. By utilizing psychokinetic energy, she's able to bind together ambient free-floating molecules into strands of solid force. When fully solidified, they are capable of holding up to 10 tons. They can be used to spread around an area, wrap enemies, or be focused into narrow web-lines to swing from. Because of their nature, her psi-webs can be formed at a distance and are controlled mentally. If left in place, they will last about an hour before the psionic energy degrades and the webbing dissipates, though she can dismiss them sooner.
* Psionic Vibrations: By casting small strands of her psi webbing into aa suitable environment, Julia can feel the 'vibrations' through them as a spider with it's web. This can allow her to sense the presence of others outside of her space, even pinpointing potential attackers over a distance.
* Wallcrawling: While she can stick to walls in a manner similar to Spider-Man, her wallcrawling ability comes from her psionic capability. By manipulating inter-atomic binding forces of matter, Julia can create a powerful molecular bond between her body and whatever she touches.
Spider Abilities:
Most of Julia's powers mirror those of other Spider-People, albeit from a different source.
* Regeneration: While not on par with the Howlett/Kinney clan, Julia has managed to recover from point blank gunshot wounds fully within a matter of a few days. Broken bones heal in hours, lacerations in minutes, and bruises in seconds. She is also immune to all known types of poisons.
* Superhuman Strength: She is able to lift at least 10 tons.
* Superhuman Speed: Julia is able to run and move at speeds greater than even the finest human athlete, though no more than 40-45 mph.
* Superhuman Stamina: She produces fewer fatigue toxins than the average human. Julia is capable of physically exerting herself at peak capacity for several hours without impairment.
* Superhuman Agility: Her agility, balance, and coordination are far beyond the natural physical limits of the human body. She is move and contort herself in ways that a body should generally not be able.
* Superhuman Reflexes: Julia's reaction time is far beyond that of a normal human. This allows her to dodge arrows or thrown projectiles, and get out of the way of where a gun is pointed, as well as fight off multiple enemies at the same time.
* Superhuman Durability: While far from invulnerable, she is able to withstand impact forces with only mild to moderate discomfort, that would otherwise severely injure or kill a normal person.
* Spider-Sense: Julia's version operates a bit differently from the normal. Her sense of touch is so developed to the point that she can sense vibration like a spider in a web, allowing her to collect detailed information about people with her sphere of influence (about 20-25 ft). Her senses are so sharp that she can detect a hollow area under a solid steel floor simply by walking over it.

After over a decade of marriage and motherhood, Julia is an excellent cook, capable of preparing delicious and healthy meals to tempt a number of palates!
Espionage:
While not on the level of someone like Black Widow, Julia has been trained in the arts of espionage. This allows her to gather information from people and computers with equal ease, while giving nothing of herself away in the process. For obvious reasons, she excels at stealth techniques.
Hand To Hand Combat:
Julia has been extensively trained by The Commission in a variety of hand to hand combat techniques. She truly excels at styles that value agility and reflexes, quick strikes and movement.

Connections:
With her 'superhero' gig being more on the 'government agent' side of things, Julia's managed to make contacts and connections within many levels of the government and mutant/mutate/metahuman communities. She's even managed a few in business and science sectors, though those tend to be in more specialized fields.
Weaknesses
Family:
Julia has an 8 year old daughter, and both her parents are still living. Not only that, but her parents are fairly well-known in their fields of being naturalists and preservantionists. Anyone that discovers Julia's identity could easily use her family against her.
Guilt:
Julia has plenty of things to feel guilty about, not the least of which is the death of her ex-husband. She's contemplated hanging up the mask more than once out of her sense of guilt over the things she's done, or been responsible for. If it weren't for her daughter and her sense of responsibility, Julia would be a bad place. She could be tipped over that edge with the right incentive.
Personal Enemy:
She doesn't know it yet, but she has incurred the wrath of an individual. One that has an unreasonable hatred of her and delights in taking every opportunity to ruin her, both professionally and personally.
Shady Past:
Julia's trying to break away from a shady government organization. This means she has more than one skeleton in her own closet that could come dancing out at any moment. While she's pretty close-mouthed about her past and herself, others that know of her past might not be so tight-lipped.
