Sma'shaw Ihaka is an empowered mechanic born of aggressively tailored gene splicing. With the body of an anthropomorphic hyena, the bone marrow of a strong but hostile species of alien, and the mutant brain of a human, Wawahi builds durable vehicles and gadgets to meet the needs of his mission and keep himself fed. Pushing his crafts to the absolute limits, he searches desperately for a place where he truly belongs. He is the proud owner and creator of the Landshark, his RV-converted-submersible redesigned to function as a long-term home and base of operations. Currently, he operates independently, taking up contracts as he sees fit, leaving behind a history of pirating and eco-terrorism in the rear view mirror.

Personality

Fight Happy:
He's not necessarily aggressive...unless provoked by a perceived slight, of course. But he absolutely LOVES getting into physical scraps, as a result of some of his more alien genes. Sometimes exercise helps cut-back the intensity of this excitement, but sometimes he gets so giddy at the prospect of getting to tough-up with another bruiser. That being said, he can usually reign himself back in unless someone's done something to genuine piss him off.

Hyper Focused:
Even in the face of peril, he manages to dial himself in and focus on the task at hand, damn the danger and death all around him. When rubber meets the road, he'll get the job done even if someone's got him zeroed in on their sights and pulling the hammer back. With the chips down, he focuses on his role in whatever team he might be a part of, letting very little distract him from his objective. Whether it's making mid-drive repairs, or getting a package from point A to point B, he'll do his damnedest to see it through at his own expense.

Sunny Disposition:
Despite his intimidating appearance, he typically carries a friendly demeanor as is always excited to meet new people! Assuming, of course that they aren't authority figure looking to put him in cuffs. Though he's self-conscious about smiling, he can't help but grin big and wide when going on another outing or contract, and having the opportunity to network with others.

Powers

Chimeric Physiology:
While his outward appearance is that of an anthropomorphic hyena, he also bears the genes of an aggressive, off-world species forming his bone marrow and structure, while bearing the mutant brain and organs of a human. His unique physiological makeup lends a number of benefits due to the aggressive gene splicing during his tube-growth.

His hyena traits allows him a heightened sense of smell, enhanced low-light vision, and an incredible amount of raw bite strength. Meanwhile, the alien marrow grants him increased strength and toughness, allowing him to lift an engine block with ease or resist small arms fire along with bludgeoning. Even with these enhancements, however, he'll struggle with lifting a whole vehicle or anything heavier, and will be in serious trouble trying to resist high-powered precision fire (sniper rifle calibers, high-intensity lasers) or any comparable n' beyond.

Implausible Engineering:
Chief among his powers is his ability to work improbable wonders with mechanical designs, as a result of his tailored mutant genes, using little more than scraps metal and basic electronics to achieve marvels. The effectiveness of his primary power depends on how much he's personally worked on the device or machine. With machines he had no hand in making, he can push their performance beyond the redline and make them last longer than they should be able to.

With devices or machines that he's made some modifications to, they become strangely more durable even without reinforcement and their modified function is enhanced to perform almost as well the base function (i.e. a beam splitter on a laser gun manages to double the beams with minimal output loss; the deployable tank treads on a car manages to maintain most of the speed and handling of regular tires).

But his power truly shines with his own personal creations. With enough time and investment, he can put together weapons and vehicles that vastly out pace their manufactured counterparts with outlandish design. A car that daisy chains multiple engines together, a laser rifle that uses high intensity beams focused with a spinning gem housed in a plastic toy gun frame, or boots that let the user leap into the air using jailbroken dyson fan jets...no matter how improbable it might be, if he puts the time into designing and building something that works within his baffling logic (and can be feasibly assembled with the tools and resources on hand), he can truly make a mechanical marvel.

Percussive Repairs:
Similar to how his style of engineering stretches the reality of actual mechanical engineering, his ability to repair devices and machines is just as confounding. So long as he has a hammer or wrench in his hands, he's capable of making incremental repairs by simply striking the device or machine with said tool. That being said, the effectiveness is similarly tied to how much of the device or machine is of his own making -as well- as the severity of the damage. A hand-sized device not made by him would take a few minutes to repair assuming it's not completely destroyed; an engine would take about an hour, and a whole vehicle would be be several hours, give or take based on how damaged it is.

When it comes to his own creations, the efficiency is way more tangible, allowing him to make emergency repairs in a number of swings as long the device or machine hasn't been completely destroyed in one fell swoop. Minor repairs take about six swings, moderate damage take about twelve, and anything severe would require him to pull himself from the fray to focus on repairing or perform a partial patch up job to bring it back down to a state that won't hamper its performance.

Skills

Aquatic Survival:
A landlubber he is certainly not. With a number of years at sea under his belt, he's gained the experience of piloting a variety of vessels across treacherous water, and has also learned how to live off of the rich and plentiful resources that the ocean has to offer. A spartan diet of the ocean is not beyond him, if the need call for it.

Singing:
Surprisingly enough, having fairly wide snout and mostly human vocal chords lends the hyena lad to being able to hit some damn good notes! Though a lot of his singing is practiced in private, or at least in his workshop/similar settings where he's engrossed in his work and might not realize that other folks are around. As a result, his vocal chords have been naturally trained just by him being relatively unabashed in singing along with his tunes. He might not bringing home a Grammy or charting the billboards anytime soon, but he might surprise some folks at karaoke with such how much soul he's got in his song.

Stone Ocean Mma:
A personally crafted blend of 52 Blocks and Tai Chi, utilizing a combination of deceptively slow katas and tight blocks that rapidly flow into grapples, pins, and a subsequent flurry of close-quarters blows, all of which mimic the tidal motions of the ocean. The technique is especially adapted to using the environment or other opponents to restrict an opponent's ability to move, and to cut-off other enemy combatants and mitigate fights to one-on-one engagements, necessitating a constant flow between focused enemies while others are left reeling when out in open spaces.

Stunt Driving:
It's a necessity to know how to handle a car with mastery and skill, especially when driving hot-rodded vehicles that put out far more horsepower than senses. He'd be remiss in building wonderful death traps like the Tornado if he didn't know how to handle them at their absolute limit, after all. If he couldn't handle these beasts on the road, he'd have no business building them. Luckily, he's learned a thing or too from his time as a getaway driver in the U.S.

Tinkering:
Anyone can swing a hammer or screw part A onto part B. But it takes a true madman, dedicated to his craft, to toil away the hours drafting up design ideas, schematics, testing to see what works and what needs improvement. Even his special brand of mad engineering needs that TLC and determination to see a project through to truly shine. To that end, he's grown quiet accustomed to gutting machines and throwing them back together in new and exciting ways, more often than that with more functions than it started with, if not an entirely brand new purpose.

Resources

Kinetic Jumpers:
Sometimes you need a bit more air time to your step. Wawahi's custom fit boots are fitted with scrapped dyson jets, redesigned with the safety limitations removed so it can produce enough thrust to lift the hyena lad! Due to not wanting to have to fiddle with recharging the batteries manually, the built-in power cells are charged by kinetic movement...allowing him to literally recharge on the run! The boots help shoot up into the air in a burst, in addition to being be able to temper the speed of his fall or course correct his movement mid-flight. Despite the ease of recharging, the power capacity is fairly small, requiring careful and tempered usage to avoid an unceremonious plunge into the ground.

Landshark:
His home, his workshop, and his main mode of transportation. The Landshark is a heavily modified Airstream RV that's been redesigned to be submersible (including life support, pressure regulation and, of course, a structurally sound hull) while also capable of heavy off-roading. The Landshark has been outfitted with devices of his own making that allow an easier time of navigating the darker depths of the ocean, as well as receiving an stable, high-bandwidth internet connection even plunging down that deep beneath the waves. The submersible is also equipped with solar panels and wave-powered generators to ensure continual power under most circumstances.

The interior is split up into a number of wings. The first, when entering the craft, is the kitchen and living room. Both bear a fusion of aesthetics between cabin and beach house, featuring cozy wood flooring and walls paired with stone accents in the living and brick accents in the kitchen. The kitchen has your usual trappings of a fridge, stove, microwave, air fyer...in addition to a 'hot food' machine built into the wall next to the fridge, designed to automatically prepare a set of Wawahi's favorite meals, taking raw ingredients directly from the fridge. The living room showcases reclining couches, a flatscreen, a fireplace with a rug, and a small collection of consoles.

There's the cockpit towards the front of the cabin, which has been jury rigged with specialized with read-outs for depth and pressures gauging, navigation, and access to hi-beam lights for underwater visibility. At the opposite end of the RV-turned-ship is his workshop, fully stocked with the tools and parts he needs, and room to store one four-passenger car. On the upper dead is Wawahi's person quarters, and a smaller guest room next to it.

Lil' Barker:
Sometimes the bark is far worse than the bite. In this case, Lil' Barker is a fairly sizeable firearm in the likeness of a sawed-off shotgun, sized to better fit the hyena's size, and styled with an open, jawed hyena's maw at the business end of the barrel. Scrap metal is literally fed to the gun, and the pump-action bites the shrapnel, wadding it as the firearm compresses the air behind it for ignition. Racking the pump-action multiple times 'chews' and increases the number of projectiles fired back out, as well as the amount of compression built up and how much the spread is increased. Once the trigger is pulled, the compression air is released in ignition, and out comes the deadly spray of super-heated shrapnel!

Shock Plating:
Typically worn over his operator mechanic suit, this chest piece is a mesh of hard-angeled, steel plates designed to compress and fold out against the frame of the rig, providing incremental resistance to the incoming force or blow, be it gunfire or melee strikes, in order to redistribute or deflect. Unlike traditional ballistic protection, the sides are fully protected by this plate system (except for the under-arm, of course). The resistance is achieved through an active hydraulic system backing the plates, trigged by rudimentary pressure sensors. Both are built directly into the suit. The suit itself also has an armored 'v' collar, angled forward to prevent spalling from ricocheting through the throat or head.

Tornado:
His signature car, generally kept safe aboard the Landshark to keep it from prying eyes and hands. The Tornado is a custom-built muscle car that operates off of spinning, dual V8-engine system that vastly increases the performance above normal parameters, while also creating enough airflow through the intake to forgo conventional coolant. This, of course, makes it exceedingly dangerous for anyone but him to try and drive, even with the additional air bags installed. However, the car does employ the use of a multi-gryo stabilizer to keep the vehicle from tipping over or otherwise upending itself at high speeds. He hasn't quiiite figured out an alternative fuel source yet, require him to complete repurpose the trunk as a secondary fuel tank.

Weaknesses

Precision Required:
While it is incredibly handy to be able to repair something by smacking it with a hammer or wrench, it's not -so- convenient that he smack the roof of a car and expect the axel to untangle itself. The strikes have to fall where the damage is, which may put him in a compromising position if he's required to repair damage on speeding vehicle, or try an swing down on a break in the machine that's actively on fire or spewing out an obscene amount of sparks.

Suspension of Disbelief:
Despite his ability to work mechanical wonders (most of which flies in the face of actual engineering and physics), there need to be a sense of logic to his works. Moving parts, components, electronics, and most importantly: a genuine belief that what he assembles will achieve the desired result. He can't be handed a paper-towel tube and a Nerf gun and be expected to make a powerful hand cannon by duct-taping the two together. His belief in a creation is built up over the course of testing, trial and error, and revisions. His powers allow him to economical with parts, and circumvent the restrictions of conventional engineering, but it still requires time and effort to create something that won't fall apart after one or two uses.

Who Am I?:
For all of the extraordinary abilities that his creation has granted him, it has also damned him to a life of alienation, loneliness, and body dysphoria. This wasn't as bad when he operated as a pirate, following the whims of those he perceived to be his family after he'd been abandoned. But now that he's living on his own, and experiencing what it's like to be othered by society, even something as simple as going out to get groceries fill him with intense dread and discomfort. And on top of all of that...he's not even sure what to really identify as. A hyena, an alien, a mutant, and freak-show science experiment? Or some rich family's bastard pet? As result, he tends to be pretty hermetic, living aboard the Landshark and rarely going out except for contract work or to renew licenses and documentation as needed...and the stark discomfort of being called out for his bestial frame is often enough to goad him into anger, if not outright rage.
