A Simple Day In Bushwick
Date of Scene: 04 March 2024
Location: West Bushwick (Mutant Town)
Synopsis: It's a simple day in Bushwick even with the drug deal that went South.
Cast of Characters: Micola Maximoff, Kitty Pryde, Julio Richter, Sally Pride, Joshua Foley, Luca Bandoni, Patty Sloan, Pietro Maximoff, Sma'shaw Ihaka

Micola Maximoff has posed:
It's been in the 60's today, so that is practically Summer time weather for some NYC residents. The rain has been coming down off and on, causing some planned activities to be postponed, but some had pushed through the rain. Because they had schedules to keep to!

Given the nice weather it has drawn a lot of people out of their homes and down where the businesses and others are. For some it might be their first time back in Bushwick in a long time, for others it might be a regular day.

One Micola Maximoff was getting back to her old volunteer schedule, which consisted of dropping off care bundles to some of the shelters and food banks. But she also had a box to pick up from the police precinct as well. "Pietro is not going to be happy that I picked this up after everything we went through." she points out to the man she's walking beside. "And let me know if you get any fresh scenes." she frowns to that.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
The doors to the Mutant Town Clinic open up, and Kitty Pryde walks out, holding the door for those behind her. "Yeah, met him... um... how did I meet Robert? I think someone got me in the back of the head with a brick when I was helping a family," Kitty replies, speaking of the guy who runs the clinic. "He does good work here. The people really need it," Kitty says.

The area is a place that the state drops off former felon mutants, according to a state law that lets them relocate such to specified areas.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio Richter follows after Patty and Kitty, hands stabbed into pockets, slouched behind the high collar of his beat up leather jacket. He looks vaguely sullen, slightly snarly in expression. At any point when either of the angelic women are glancing his way he leans down and touches the small section of grass partitioning the sidewalk from the street and swats the blades with his fingers defiantly. "Happy now?"

Sally Pride has posed:
Though her presence has been off and on more recently due to her working on matters with X-Force, Sally Pride did still technically live in Mutant Town. And she had not just recently returned for a visit but used the oppritunity to introduce another mutate she'd met to the place. It was always nice to help more of their own find a place they can be comfortable with just being themselves.

Right now she's decided to take a walk before it starts raining again. It's not officially a patrol or anything, just keeping a general eye on things. That and she doesn't like staying cooped up indoors any more than she has to.

Joshua Foley has posed:
Mutant Town Clinic workdays were under the table work for Joshua. Having spent most of the day assisting with healing and care of various mutants who couldn't get care elsewhere, and was just coming off shift when he caught sight of a familiar brunette that he's a close friend of. "Kitty!" he calls out, the golden-skinned mutant grabbing a jacket to throw on.

"Didn't know you were about tonight." A grin is offered. "I have a bit before meeting up with Sara, what's new?" he asks curiously, but making notice that there's others, there's a polite grin. "Heya." he offers to Julio and Patty. "Joshua Foley." he offers in way of greeting. "I work here sometimes - help out other places sometimes."

Luca Bandoni has posed:
It isn't immediately obvious that Luca is a mutant, but a lot of the people in Bushwick know he is, in fact, one of them. It's not something he even hides in his day to day life. He's off shift at the firehouse tonight and this is where he tries to spend as many of his off shift evenings. Lately he's been pulling doubles at the house and almost always in the capacity of firefighter. But here? He's Luca Bandoni, paramedic. He may not be a full fledged doctor, but the has a trick or two up his sleeve. He's also known by some of the children as that guy that always brings candy.

Tonight he's dressed like any other civilian. Tonight he's doing something he's not permitted to do while on the job, he's carrying. His sidearm is holstered beneath the light jacket he's wearing, not for protection against the mutants here, but to protect them. Wouldn't be the first time some bigot caused a stink.

Patty Sloan has posed:
Patty steps out following Kitty. She has her wings belted down today so as not to draw attention to herself. She doesn't exactly know what they are doing here but hey its a field trip! A field trip to Mutant Town! She suddenly feels a little more seen, figuratively speaking. She looks at Joshua and smiles, "Hello, nice to meet you. Patty Sloan." She states trying to as pleasant as she can be. She smiles to Julio and to Kitty. She's trying to be confident but she is clearly still her shy self.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
At least Pietro has proven he /can/ be happy. It's just rarer, when not near family. Working on a hot tip from his mother-in-law, the speedster is alerted that Micola was asked to stop by the precinct. Never a good thing, really. It wasn't too difficult for Quicksilver to divert course and head into Bushwick - blurring through the streets as he makes his way towards the police station.

No particular course, just a circuit or two around the place before he stops at the entry. He pauses there, not rushing in to cause a scene - instead optiong to wait outside, glancing over the area.

Micola Maximoff has posed:
The clinic is a busy place this evening! And probably a great place to be to meet new faces that might not want to rob you for what you have in your pockets.

There has been a lot of people milling about this evening. Which at the start of things is not bad. Not until there is a bit of a heated exchange that turns to physical violence as punches are thrown.

A single gunshot rings out which causes the altercation to go from bad to WORSE in a matter of seconds. It causes people to scatter in confusion and others to charge for the group that was in the process of fighting.

In a word, it is CHAOS.

Micola was just hitting the last step when she noticed that there was a familiar zippy one, "Speaking of the grumpy one." she muses to herself. Though the gunshot makes her jump. She's been shot before, so it happens. She instead gets pulled to the side by her detective friend and told to stay put while people rush out to see what is going on.

There are two more gun shots that ring out as people start to retaliate.

Sma'shaw Ihaka has posed:
Rather fortuitous that, just after his first night about the town (Mutant Town, in this case), he'd get pulled into another op! Well, his first one in a while, really. Thankfully, he'd had the forethought to have the Landshark drive itself over, so he had his full kit n' gear as he caught up to Sally with a brisk pace. Thankfully, his 'armor' looked more like Mad Max cosplay than actual balistic plate carrier level stuff, so there wasn't going to be much of an issue with him being fully prepped.

He was just about to say something smooth and flirty (in his mind, at least), before the gunshots rang out. Locking one look with the other mutate. His frame surged into a blur of fluff as he charges onto the scene near the clinic, sweeping his arms out to clothes-line the assailants! He couldn't use Lil' Barker with how many civvies were around in the moment, and he could take some heat with his armor!

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde greets Josh with a warm smile, and if it is welcome, a quick hug before she lets him go. "Josh, this is Patty. She's new to the school, taking college classes," she says. "And, I'm not sure if you and Julio know each other already or not?" She's not sure who all Josh has and hasn't met during his time helping at Xavier's, and down in the X-men's medical bay.

At that first sound of a shot being fired, Kitty is already phasing, having trained herself to do so when startled. She also reaches for Patty, Julio and Josh if she can get in physical touch with each of them to phase them as well, while she takes stock of the situation.

"Julio, see if you can protect people," she says, her X-men training immediately leading to deploying the team they have. "Josh I'll get you to any wounded, just stay in contact and I'll keep us phased, and whoever we reach so you can heal them," she says. "Patty, might want to duck back inside the clinic and keep your head down."

Sally Pride has posed:
A heated argument turning into a brawl on the streets of Mutant Town wasn't really that new.

It's the sound of gunfire that jerks Sally's attention away from greeting Sma'shaw joining her. A curse is hissed under her breath.

So much for it staying calm in the nice weather.

The two mutates share a glance, and then the hyena charges in to try and break things up. The lioness draws her blaster, but instead of following she circles around, positioning herself between the fighting breaking out and one of the pathes people are running away from the chaos. Sally isn't going to shoot anyone unless they come after those fleeing.

Thankfully it's a stun blaster. But Sally flicks it up to max, strong enough to hit even a physically durable mutant like a high yield taser.

Joshua Foley has posed:
When Kitty offers the hug, Josh takes it and gives a squeeze back. "Been a while!" he offers with a grin, "If you stick around long enough, I'll introduce you." And he turns to Patty to offer his hand. "It's nice to meet you. Don't mind the skin, it's a thing." No hiding that mutation. "But I'm a healer. So if you ever need help on that front..."

Not that he gets the chance to go much further. It's like a well-oiled machine as soon as that first shot rings out. And it is, Kitty and Josh have run this drill numerous times before. His hand is immediately on her wrist as she phases them both. "I'm with you." he states firmly, the young man setting his lips into a thin line.

"Just get me over there, you and Julio can handle things." His lips quirk in a quick show of reassurance. And while he knows that while phased that Kitty can pretty much just drag him along if she wanted, he moves with her, so that they can keep pace.

While he may not have formally been made part of the X-Men, he's cross-trained with them and served as the medic on another missions that he's immediately sure of what to do.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio Richter looked at Kitty, lost for a moment, eyebrows raised, hackles up. Go to ground rabbit, the cartel is coming for you, go to ground. But Kitty steels him, he takes a halting breath and nods to her then throws up his arms and compresses his face as if lifting a great weight...a rock wall bursting out from the street, lifting up a couple cars awkwardly on two tires, trying to give nearby people something to hide behind, but in a ruinous way! "Get behind the wall!!!" he screams almost helplessly, trembling as the ground uprupts and splits and vibrates with terrible geomancy!

Patty Sloan has posed:
The sound of gunfire gets Patty's attention alright. She starts trembling in fear. As a side effect, the wind starts picking up, easily reaching a gust of 40 mph. She breathes deep trying to get control of herself. "Okay..." She softly speaks to Kitty. She rushes inside of the clinic. Once inside she sits down and begins doing breathing exercises to try to calm down. The girl is not ready for such an event to transpire and it shows.

Luca Bandoni has posed:
Luca's armed, but he typically becomes dangerous when he's out of options. While he does pull his sidearm from the holster just to be ready. He's not a cop, but he sure handles that piece like he could be one. The initial gunshot barely registered, just the slightest of flinches before instinct kicked in.

"Everyone get down!" He calls out, pulling out the full volume and the full command tone he uses when things go sideways on a call.

In situations like this, there are almost always people that tend to freeze in place. Those are the ones he goes for first. Runners are at least moving targets and more difficult to hit. It's the 'deer in the headlights' group that stand a greater chance of being shot. "Go, go go go go!" he barks, again in that authoritative tone, turning his attention to the blind panic crowd once the baby deer are all finally moving.

Behind parked cars, through open doors and businesses from the clinic to Hope House to sleazy bars and greasy spoons and walls sprouting out of the ground, it's a little like herding cats, but Luca will do his best to wrangle the civilians and herd them to one form of cover or another. Multi-tasking under extreme stress is part of his day to day job, so while he's herding cats - Kitty excluded - he's scanning for the shooter, when maybe he should be taking cover himself.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
The training from the Avengers, and other less polite organizations, has Pietro in motion as soon as the sound reaches him. Initially, he blurs to be near Micola, making sure she's unhurt. Once he's certain, the man begins bursting towards the others on the streets - not the combat, but the people.

Quickly and carefully, Pietro gets people inside - carrying as necessary.

Micola Maximoff has posed:
Well this is a very eventful Monday!

There are no more gunshots that go off as the two shooters are pre-occupied with becoming targets of rather perturbed looking individuals. Plus there is a Sma'shaw and Sally that can help with taking down the two with the guns fairly easily given strength differences and not being prepared for such things to close line you.

The earth shields from Julio, manage to keep anyone else from taking a bullet. Others are able to get folks back inside or down the street to safety. There are children crying and people looking shaken up. Shootings happen fast, it is the aftermath of such situations that take the longest to deal with.

In total there are only two that are minorly wounded from taking bullets to thankfully non-vital areas. There are going to be bruises and scrapes, but for now the threat was neutralized.

The cops from the precinct are already heading over to see about taking the two shooters into custody, they are still squabbling over what the original fight was about. A drug deal gone wrong.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde calls out to Julio, "Thanks Rictor," as she leads Josh over behind the rock barrier. "I'll go grab wounded," Kitty tells the golden-skinned mutant. And then she's running through the barrier to the other side where the gunfire has been taking place.

Kitty spots one of the wounded, moving over to help the woman. "There's a mutant with healing powers over here," she says, keeping her voice down to not spread that info where it will get Josh mobbed. "I can protect you, just keep in contact with me," Kitty says.

She takes hold of the woman, helping her as she phases them both and takes her back to Josh.

Joshua Foley has posed:
Once they're behind the barrier, Joshua releases Kitty to become solid again. "Got it." he agrees, already pushing up his sleeves as he clears some rubble to make the place at least solid to sit on. It only takes a few moments for the first person to arrive, via Kitmbulance, and the young mutant takes in the injuries.

"You're going to be fine." he promises as he looks at the woman and her injury. "I'm going to get you healed up and then I want you to crawl that way." he points back the way he came. "Soon as you're behind the cars, you should be clear to the clinic."

With that, his hands touch upon her bare skin, and he starts to treat her injury, popping the bullet slug out first with a push of muscles as he soothes and treats, knitting muscle, bone, and blood vessels back together again. It takes less than a minute, and when he's done, the golden mutant pats the woman's leg. "Now off with you." he encourages her, his attention turning to see if Kitty brings him anyone else.

Sally Pride has posed:
When someone starts putting up earthen barriers to protect the fleeing folks Sally takes that as a cue to get more directly involved now that she doesn't need to provide cover herself.

Being a mutate feline it doesn't take her long to leap into the fray. One could say literally, as she essentially pounces one of the guys, going for a restraining hold that will force his weapon arm upward against his body and pointed away from shooting at anyone else. "This is as much to keep you from hurting yourself as it is others, so just stand down." She doesn't use her claws, but lets the a flicker of light reflect off them so it's very clear they are out and if you force her hand she -will- take advantage of them.

Fortunately the precinct cops are already on their way.

Luca Bandoni has posed:
Aftermath is one of Luca's specialties. Once the immediate threat is gone, he holsters his sidearm. His efforts seem to be mostly targeted at calming people, words of encouragement, a brush of his hand on a shoulder, a piece of candy from his jacket pocket for a crying child.

Anyone he brushes past that's wounded, even when the wounds are minor, will suddenly find they're maybe not hurting so much as they were a moment ago. That gash to the cheek is healing and nearly gone, that scrape to the little boy's knee is completely gone, scrapes and bruises vanish in his wake. It's quick, it's quiet and in the high adrenaline, stress filled moments after the chaos, many might not even realize what he's done.

When he's reached the end of his ropes, he still continues with the comfort.

Luca does pull out his cell phone to make a quick call, short and to the point, "I need a steak and a fucking drink," and he hangs up to go back to it.

Sma'shaw Ihaka has posed:
As hyena mutate closed in and brought the shooting to a grinding halt, Sma'shaw let out a deafening war cry, grabbing up the first shooter in his charge and carrying him effortlessly off his feet, leveraging his body mass, strength, and momentum to pin the bastard into the sanitized walls of the clinic and wrack them with agony at each slam!

"STOP. FACHKIN'. SHOOTING!!" The towering hyena mutate roars with fury in his blood as his perfectly good walk with a certain someone. With any luck, the guy would take the hint and drop his weapon. Ooooorrrr pass out from the shock and pain. Either outcome was optimal!

Julio Richter has posed:
Standing there in the middle of it, Julio looks around wide eyed. The cops flood in past and behind him, securing the area. One of them grabs Julio from behind and tosses him against the car. Stooped over with his palms on the hood, Julio is frisked. He complains, lifting his palm and pointing at the wall, but the cop shoves him back into prostration. The hero cops are moving toward the problem, but this one has his Latino-Gangbanger look alike in cuffs. A verbal altercation ensues, the highlight of which is a comeback from Julio that roughly translates to "Yo momma so ugly that when she chops vegetables, the onions cry." in Spanish.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
There are so many heroes here, handling the gunman, that he had plenty of time to make sure everyone was clear of the fracas. Safety first tonight - that's what was on Pietro's mind. After every person he delivers out of harm, he returns to check on Micola - he knows better than to try to budge her. She's here of her own choice, and can take care of herself. Still, he does check on her.

"Interesting night, hrm?" The man comments to her in a blur.

During his pathing, he does whip past the various X-Men and other obvious mutants - making sure there were no guns or dangers in their path.

Micola Maximoff has posed:
The man that Sma'shaw is beating...probably isn't doing too well. Being beaten into a wall kind makes the bones go limp like spaghetti after a while. And the cops are trying to figure out if they are safe to approach. "Sir...we can take him into custody." they call out. Because no one is going to try to get that guy without him being loose first. The other assailant doesn't fight being cuffed and lead towards the precinct.

Pretty easy when it is in walking distance!

Micola reaches out to place a hand on her husbands arm, "I'm alright." she tells Pietro. "Think we should get back home and check on the girls and mom. I've got a couple of boxes as well, so I'll meet you there?" she offers with a bit of a soft smile. "Don't tell Mom there was a shooting. She will freak out." she adds with a bit of a breath out.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde helps get any remaining wounded over to Josh. "He'll help you out quick," she says as she brings the last person over to him. She lets go of the man, unphasing him so Josh can work on him. And then she goes to check on those she came with.

"Rictor, all good? Great job with the wall," she says to Julio. And Kitty pulls out her phone to text Patty and make sure that she's ok as well inside the clinic.

The young Jewish woman looks around and sighs. Another incident in Bushwick, another moment to make the place feel that much less safe to the residents, some of them forced to stay there.

Sally Pride has posed:
Sally Pride waits unti she's sure the officers have hands on the man and his weapon out of his grasp before she drops her hold, but relents him over to their custody once they do. Then turns and nods to Sma'shaw. "Did our part, let 'em take him and the law system do it's job." Thankfully there were enough powered people willing to get involved and keep this incident to a minor affair. Compared to what it could of become.

Joshua Foley has posed:
When Kitty gets close to him, Joshua works on treating another wounded, quickly attempting to heal them up and get them out of the way. Noticing the paramedic, there's a moment of quiet and he glances back to Kitty. They'll talk about it later. His attention focused on the healing for the moment.

"Doesn't seem to be anyone else?" he asks her when she settles against the wall. "You good?" He knows she is, but he asks anyway. And before Kitty can ask him, he adds. "I've gotten a lot better at this. Lots of practice." A grim smile.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio Richter rubbed his wrists, having been released by the cop who was trying to arrest him in the confusion. He angry-strutted over to Kitty, "Not so loud Chica, probably gonna make me clean it up too." he said, but his inner light was somehow shining through. He'd done good, and she said as much. She was a real X-man, and her opinion mattered. "What happened anyway? I didn't get a good look with my face smushed into a cruiser.", still salty.

Luca Bandoni has posed:
Luca parks himself near the police station, phone in hand again, "You coming down here? Or do you want to avoid the bullshit on your day off and meet me at my place?"

One of the officers bustling about stops long enough to tell him, "Sara's off today, Bandoni."

Luca holds up his phone and wiggles it a little before he replies, "No shit?" Then he just settles in to wait on his sister and the steak and booze he requested.

Sma'shaw Ihaka has posed:
Sma'shaw perked his ears up, looking to the officer with eyes bloodshot with green...until he relaxed a bit, taking a breath to ease back from the fight. "G'day, officah! Oh, ye, feel free ta take 'im. Got the lad noice n' snoozy for ya'." He plops the ragdoll'd shooter onto the floor, letting the officer (and EMS) take the guy in as he linked back up with Sally. "Oi tell ya whot, that foight reaaaally worked up an appetite. Any good Chinese joints around 'ere? I'm feelin' Seasame Chicken and Walnut Shrimp...!" His smile widened to full teeth, drooling juuust a little at the thought of some GOOD grub.

Pietro Maximoff has posed:
Finally returning to stand near Micola, Pietro surveys the area. Everything nice and tucked away - with only a few injuries. "I'll go with you. I am sure the girls are fine - I'd rather make sure nothing else odd happens in your vicinity tonight." He grins over to his wife, offering to help her with the boxes. "I'll let you drive, though." A wink.
