Former astronaut, currently Senior Agent of ARMOR. She has a knack for engineering and has built her own armor systems. One of SHIELD's better people with dimensional theory, for a time she was stranded in another dimension before devising her own way home. Now she works to protect Earth from extra-dimensional threats.

Profile:
Sybil was born in Malaysia, her father's native country. Her mother was a Navy pilot, so they tended to move every couple years. Her intellect became apparent at a young age, and she excelled at school, going through every advanced placement course her school had. She graduated from MIT at the age of 17 and joined the Navy when she hit 18. She became a pilot like her mother, taking the call sign Kestrel.
Several years later she was accepted into astronaut training and made multiple trips up to the International Space Station. Writing several papers on dimensional physics got her noticed by SHIELD and she was recruited into ARMOR. Using the resources available to SHIELD including advanced technology that SHIELD had collected after the alien alliance invasion in 2012, she designed and built the Kestrel armor.
It is fortunate she was wearing it when ARMOR tested new interdimensional portal technology, because the portal malfunctioned and melted down, trapping her in another dimension. Using the portal cannon built into the suit, she dimension hopped her way back to her correct world. Something about the trip gave her the ability to sense dimensional breaches within a half-mile of herself. She's now back in charge of her team and looking to round it out with a few willing heroes. To that end, she's out and about, trying to meet as many new people as possible who might be up for protecting the world a little more officially.

Timeline:
* April 30, 1987 - Sybil is born to Lieutenant Commander Marcia Willis and Sagari bin Tam. Later that year Marcia is rotated to duty in the U.S., taking her family with her.
* 1991 - Sybil is already reading at a first grade level and is fluent in English and Malay thanks to her father.
* 1992 - 2004 - Sybil is in advanced placement courses every year, skipping ahead several years. She graduates from MIT at the age of 17 with a dual degree in Physics and Engineering.
* 2004 - Joining U.S. Space Command, Sybil becomes a pilot like her mother, taking the callsign Kestrel.
* 2008 - Sybil joins the astronaut training program. Over the next six years she makes three trips to the International Space Station.
* 2014 - Major Sybil Tan writes several papers regarding dimensional travel, prompting SHIELD to recruit her. Agent Coulson offers her a chance to work on projects NASA won't be seeing for a good number of years.
* 2021 - Following the invasion from the ZZGU dimension, Nick Fury promotes her to Senior Agent and puts her in charge of one of the ARMOR teams, having been impressed with her both out in the world and in the lab. She spends the next year building and practicing in the Kestrel armor, refining concepts from the EXO-7.
* 2022 - During a test of ARMOR's new interdimensional portal, an accident melts the portal down and traps her on the wrong side. Most of the next year is spent dimension hopping, trying to get back to her correct reality.
* 2023 - Major Tan finally manages to return to where she belongs. Put back in charge of the team, she catches up on the past year, then starts looking forward. Things are quiet on the Interdimensional front, so her team is somewhat understaffed. Sybil decides to put some feelers out to various hero groups by getting out of the Triskelion and putting in some time heroing and getting to know them.

Personality

Curious:
Given her intellect, it's no surprise that she's always trying to learn something new. Her trip through the ARMOR portal was due to 'just wanting to take a quick look'. Obviously, this doesn't always work out for her.

Loyal:
Born into a military family and then entering the service as well, she has been taught loyalty since she could understand the concept. Once a person or group earns her trust, it would take something pretty serious to break it.

Reserved:
True to her Malaysian birth, she does not show a lot of emotion in public. She's by no means demure, but she tends to stay calm even as things are burning down around her. It's actually a useful quality in a leader. In more private gatherings, she can let her hair down a little to relax with her friends or coworkers.

Powers

Breach Sense:
Since her jaunt through extradimensional space, she has developed the ability to sense a dimensional breach within a half-mile of her position. None of the SHIELD scientists and doctors she's talked to can explain it, but it's still there.

Genius:
While she's not quite on a Reed Richards/Tony Stark level, Sybil is still extremely intelligent. She did most of the work on her suit, and has an almost instinctual understanding of dimensional physics.

Skills

Fabrication:
She is skilled in devising and building devices and equipment, such as her Kestrel armor. She's reverse-engineered some of the more advanced technology SHIELD has gotten it's hands on.

Languages:
She speaks English, Malay and Spanish fluently, and has the basics of Russian and Japanese from time spent on the ISS with cosmonauts and a secret love of anime respectively.

Melee Combat:
She is a skilled hand to hand combatant, specializing in kickboxing. She's created an alternate form for when she's in the Kestral suit to take advantage of it's talons. She also practices Judo, since redirecting a foe's energy in a world with supervillains is really handy.

Ranged Combat:
She is competent with most basic firearms up to assault rifles, and an excellent shot with her arm mounted blaster.

Shield Training:
She's been through all of SHIELD's training programs and could easily work undercover. While she's no Black Widow, she is skilled enough in espionage to fill any role needed.

Resources

Icer Pistol:
Standard issue for SHIELD, she carries one at all times.

Kestrel Armor:
Made of ballistic cloth and cutting edge materials, the suit will protect her against small arms fire, explosions and basic energy attacks. More powerful attacks can be blocked with the wing force fields. The armor uses a number of advanced technologies captured during the Alien Alliance Invasion. Since she doesn't have full sized wings to deal with, the suit can be worn under loose clothing.
Flight - It lets her fly at up to Mach 3, and when fully sealed allows her to survive and maneuver in space for up to three hours before the oxygen supply runs out.
HUD - The display in the helmet is cutting edge, allowing for tactical displays, maps and GPS, targeting and various vision enhancements including nightvision and magnification.
Strength Enhancement - Given that one of the suit's major weapons are blades, Sybil built the armor to enhance her strength to make those blades dangerous to opponents who are more than human. It lets her lift about a ton, or kick with the equivalent force.
Portal cannon - Built into the left gauntlet of the suit, this has two functions. It can open portals between dimensions and it can function as an energy cannon with a dialable yield, anywhere from simple concussion blasts to beams that can burn through metal. She can set the portals up to pull maneuvers that teleporters usually excel at. She sometimes also uses them to get rid of opponents, opening a portal behind them and using the concussion blast to push them through and close the portal, leaving them stranded.
Foot Talons - The Kestrel's claws, they are made of adamantium and can cut through most other materials. She uses a modified form of kickboxing to take the most advantage of the blades mounted to the suit's feet.
Plasma Exhaust - The large 'flight feathers' on the outer edge of the wings are actually superheated plasma exhaust and can be used to cut into objects or burn opponents on flyby attacks.

Shield Arsenal:
As a team leader, she has access to many SHIELD resources such as weapons, vehicles and even cutting edge technology. And all the paperwork that requisitioning them demands. A lot of the time, it's just not worth it.

Weaknesses

Dimensional Enemies:
It's entirely possible she may have ticked off a few beings of various types while doing all she could to get back to her proper dimension. This could lead to problems down the road.

Only Human:
Outside the exosuit, she is a regular human, though a well-trained and dangerous one.

Public Eye:
She's a public figure, having been an astronaut before joining SHIELD, and she doesn't bother to hide who she is when in the exosuit, mostly using the helmet only during combat.
