Profile
Chas is a cabbie from London, now living in New York City. He is also the baretender and half-proprietor of The Laughing Magician. What Chas lacks in powers, he more than makes up for with spirit, heart, and a steadfast loyalty to those he counts as friends. That loyalty (and a plethora of skills) make him a more than capable ally for the various members of Constantine's family.
Timeline
Timeline:
1988: Born Francis William Chandler on May 3rd to an abusive, nasty mum and a weak dad.
*1995: Chas' brother Terry is hanged. In the same year, his mother, Queenie, kills his father and begins dabbling in magic. She acquires the disgusting creature known as Slag as her familiar; Chas' life becomes even more of a miserable existence.
*2005: Chas meets John for the first time.
*2007: Chas and John wind up flat mates after the latter finally has enough of Queenie and Slag and does away with them both by drowning the monkey.
*2009: Mucous Membrane forms with Chas as their roadie, he and John begin futzing around with the mystical arts.
*2010: With John in Ravenscar, Chas continues to study all things mystical. He may not have the power running through his veins like John but knowledge, in of itself, is power and he wants to be ready when his daft friend pulls himself back together. Marries Renee.
*2012 - Gerladine, his daughter, is born.
*2013: He's there to pick up John from Ravenscar, the two rarely speak of it again. Later that same year, Chas comes into possession of The Knowledge; as if he needed anything else to make him the best cabbie London and the surrounding areas? Renee divorces him later this year, finally tired of the danger Chas' supernatural entanglements pose.
*2019: Chas begins traveling back and forth between the UK and the New York area with John, he quickly realizes that The Knowledge isn't something limited to only the UK. Every city has its landmarks and routes for a good cabbie to memorize, after all, and each one has its own demons
*2020 - A drunken John casts a protection spell on Chas to ensure his friend's safe trip home after a night in a bar. It works a little too well. After John leaves, the bar burns to the ground and forty seven people lose their lives. Chas wakes in a hospital, wondering how he survived. He now has forty seven lives to live, the lives of those souls he absorbed due to the spell, forty seven deaths to suffer. Might be forty five by now, after all, he's still running with that Constantine bloke.
*2021 - Chas is spending more and more of his time in the New York area with John. They open the Laughing Magician, a little piece of home in Hell's Kitchen where everyone knows their names.
*2022 - Chas makes a deal that forces him to serve as doorman for gates of the Silver City. He is there for four months.

Personality
Cautious:
Chas' time as a temporary Heavenly servant has forced him to have a better understanding of the inherent dangers of making mystical deals without reading the small print. With that in mind he can be a bit slow to take action due to the fear that he will cause undo harm to others or himself in the process.
Gregarious:
Underneath that steadfast, stoic demeanor, at the end of the day Chas still just wants to have a little fun. He may not be the sort to dance on the tables until the morning light, but he's often the last one - right along with John, to abandon his barstool and a night of drinks, tall tales and laughter.
Protective:
Chas is very protective of the people around him. His protective nature doesn't stop with just the physical threats in their lives. He's the first to come to the defense of a friend be it against verbal attack or threats to their mortal well being.
Short Fuse:
Chas is, most of the time, a chill, easy going bloke. But he does have a slow fuse. Once that fuse is lit, putting it out is a difficult thing to do. His temper is legendary, as is the destruction it can leave in its wake - mostly in the form of broken bottles, glasses and splintered bar stools. ...and a time or two, John's jaw.
Steadfast:
- Chas is like the buoy those around him cling to in the storm. He's unwavering, unflappable and always there. Naturally, given the Laughing Magician's chaotic nature, this steadfastness has often been the wall between John Constantine and certain death. However, his unwavering strength in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds isn't reserved only for his best mate.

Powers
All Speak:
Chas can converse with any creature of the material universe as well as demons, ideologues, and Lesser Enochian spoken by other angels. He appears to be speaking whatever language the creature understands best, but this dialogue is limited by the intellect and understanding of the creature with which he speaks.
Heavenly Power:
Chas' physical form is a repository of divine energy. It sustains his body and empowers his supernatural abilities. If this energy is sufficiently depleted, the celestial gifts fade as well. Directing this energy to outward efforts is a skill that currently eludes him.
Mystical Resistance:
A number of tattoos put on Chas' body are actually mystical enchantments that protect him from possession and mental control.
Senses:
Chas' has a divine sixth sense when in the presence of the enemies of heaven: namely demons, devils, and abyssal entities. This mystical sense for corruption presents itself as a strong scent or odor. The stronger the smell, the closer (or more powerful) the entity. This is a magical ability, nor a physical one, and cannot be 'turned off'.
Superhuman Strength:
The divine spark inside Chas fuels him with incredible physical power. His strength and endurance are on par with the godlings, able to sustain superhuman exertion with limitless stamina and toss around passenger vehicles with little effort.
Unique Physiology:
Chas was temporarily a custodian and caretaker of the Gates of the Silver City. His physiology is now quite similar to angelic entities. This gives him exceptional health and resistance to many poisons and diseases that afflict mortals. The metaphysical nature of an injury is more serious than the physical trauma of one. He can recover rapidly and completely from any injury that does not kill him immediately, though this may leave him weakened and drained for a significant time afterwards. (See Weaknesses).
Wings:
At will, Chas can manifest large gold and silver wings of celestial energy that allow for advanced flight. These wings are intangible and do not damage clothing or his surroundings, and function perfectly in any environment or medium. Because these wings do not rely on physics, Chas has fantastic acceleration and agility and can top out at just shy of supersonic speeds.
Skills
Analytical:
He may not show it often, but Chas has an amazing analytical mind. He's the plotter, the planner, the 'take a step back and look at the bigger picture' to John's 'leap before he looks' nature. It takes a lot of mental prowess to navigate a city, or any situation, thinking five turns in advance while barrelling ahead at well above the posted speed limit.
Bar Life:
From alcohol tolerance and consumption to back-room poker challenges to hustling a game of billiards, Chas is well versed in the ways of "the bar."
Basic First Aid:
It's all self taught; Chas has no formal training, but he can plug the holes, stop the bleeding and stave off shock until the real help arrives. Another thing learned out out of necessity; it keeps those ER bills to a minimum for minor injuries and keeps him and his friends alive through the bigger battles.
Driving:
A man doesn't become one of the best cabbies in two different cities on two different sides of the world without knowing a thing or two about a thing or two about driving a car. In additon to just plain being an Indy 500 caliber driver, Chas also knows how to get from point A to B as quickly as possible AND how to lose the tail before they get there.
Handy Man:
If it's broke, Chas can likely fix it. It's not mystical or magical, but he just seems to have an innate sixth sense about what's wrong and what needs doing to get just about anything up and running again.
Mechanic:
Chas is a master mechanic. It's a skill forced upon him by the fact that his repair bills on his cab would, otherwise, be astronomical given the things he gets up to in his 'off' hours.
Occult Knowledge:
Chas is a walking wealth of occult wisdom. His time as an angelic gatekeeper makes him particularly expert on the topic of divine creatures. His knowledge of most other possible threats usually boils down to two simple strategies: knowing how to identify something, and knowing how to kill it. Chas is an expert in both of these tactics.
Seasoned Brawler:
Chas is a beast of a man for a 'mere mortal'. He can rightly take his lumps with the best of them and keep going, but first the fists have to land to make those lumps. While not formally trained in any particular brand of fighting style, he does really well with his own mishmash of London Streets and a little martial arts he's picked up here and there. He's also not afraid to fight dirty if the need arises.
Resources
Cab:
Chas' cab has seen a lot, (if that poor girl could talk!) But she's never let him down. Like any good woman, she's always there to bail him and his friends out of danger.
Constantine:
John and all the things that come with the Laughing Magician. The House of Mystery, extensive occult library, mystical weapons and baubles of protection. If it's John's it's Chas'. The most important of these would be the weapons and baubles. Chas may not be a magician himself, but that doesn't mean he can't utilize items spelled by other magicians. At any given time, he could potentially, have any number of trinkets up his sleeve; from protective charms to little balls of bottled hellfire.
Weapons:
A stockpile of weapons is an absolute necessity in Chas' 'other' line of work. Guns, blades, bows, he has a little bit of everything and most of them, well, they'd raise a few eyebrows. While he does have more than his share of 'mundane' normal old crap, much of his collection includes bullets and arrows made out of, or dipped in, mystical wierdness, blessed (and damned) blades, wooden crosses. He has extensive knowledge of how to kill the monsters and demons that go bump in the night and his instruments of death stash reflects that. Of course getting busted with any of it might not be a good thing, as not a bit of it is legally acquired save that one piddly 9mil.
Weaknesses
Constantine:
Come hell or high water, Chas will wade through it all alongside his best mate. It's not following John, it's truly standing beside him to look into the pits of hell with him. It matters not that John is constantly trying to keep him clear of it, Chas puts himself right in the middle. He's the longest lived of the Laughing Magician's friends, but it's amost guaranteed that John will be the death of him (probably more than once.)
Entropic Energy:
The energy of Nullspace can do great harm to Chas' physical and metaphysical self. The energy of the Endless Void negates the angelic energy that sustains him. Even a resolute will cannot bear such an attack for any length of time, and even a light brush is grievously harmful.
Family:
While he may be divorced from Renee and distanced from both her and his daughter, Chas would die to protect either of them. They are a prime target for his enemies.
Guilt:
Chas' actions after making a pact with Michael the Archangel were far reaching and devastating for a great number of people. The consequences of his choices often haunts him. There is little he will not do to make reparations when confronted by someone he has injured. There are also some who know of his role in the angelic invasion, who would use him to get revenge on Michael as the architect of the chaos.
Hellfire:
The fires of Hell are a potent force against angelic beings. A concentrated blast of hellfire could significantly harm Chas and force him to heal through it as a normal person would heal from serious burns, should he survive such an encounter.
Short Fuse:
He may not be quick to it, but Chas' temper has landed him in hot water more times than one. His is a slow burning fuse, but the resulting explosion is a volatile one and the flames difficult to put out once started.
Unique Physiology:
Chas' body is made of the stuff of Heaven. His hair, feathers, blood and bone, all have black market and occult value that may attract interested agents, with malevolent and benevolent intentions both.
