Profile
Kaminari is the result of a Goddess of Thunder and Noise discovering modern Rock music and deciding it was way cooler than just sending rain to make crops grow or sinking Mongol fleets with typhoons. The rest is history more or less. An international Rock music sensation and Japanese pop culture phenomenon, she is a rebellious member of the Amatsu-Kami pantheon of Japanese Shinto deities.
Timeline
Timeline:
*Unknown Dates/Yayoi Period: Events documented in the Kojiki (written 712 CE codifying existing oral tradition). Kaminari is born from the death of Izanami while giving birth to Kagatsuchi. Izanami is sealed away in Yomi. Izanagi gives birth to Amaterasu, Tsuki-Yomi, and SusanoO. Kaminari grows up to become the Goddess of Thunder and Noise. Various adventures and mischief both making crops grow and causing disastrous typhoons. A bit fickle.
*1274/1281: Kaminari destroys the invading Mongol fleet of Kublai Khan... twice.
*1868: Kaminari, along with other Amatsu-Kami, supports Meiji Restoration and subsequent restoration of Shinto as State Religion by the Meiji Emperor. Amatsu-Kami largely withdraw to Ama. Jingikan set up within government to deal with Amatsu-Kami related affairs.
*1878: Electricity harnessed in Japan for the first time. Kaminari, bored in Ama, is fascinated by humanity's ingenuity at harnessing lightning in various ways. Sneaks out and becomes a student of early Meiji scientists. Aids in Japan's miraculous modernization from feudal society to industrial power.
*1944-1945: Kaminari tries to help Japan in World War II by sending two typhoons to disrupt the American fleet, similar to what she did with the Mongols. Despite major losses by the American Navy, still surrenders anyway after the atomic bombings. Kaminari retreats back to Ama until the until early 2000's.
*2006: Kaminari assists the other Amatsu-Kami and Olympians in fighting and sealing Mikaboshi. (Events of Ares comic, sealing of Mikaboshi.)
*2007: Kaminari needs a break from Ama after the fierce battle with Mikaboshi. Discovers Japan's nascent scene of female front and all girl metal bands. The goddess of Noise is in love and launches a music career of her own as a way of forgetting divine troubles.
*2010: Kaminari becomes the best known among the Amatsu-Kami with fans/worshipers all over Japan and internationally as well.
*2015: Kaminari becomes a global sensation riding the wave of the Japanese pop culture boom. This gets her some resentment from more traditional Amatsukami who believe she should 'know her place' and not be upstaging them.
*2020: After several world tours, Kaminari decides she wants to relocate to New York City to see more of the world and experience American life.

Personality
Iconoclast:
Though she made an effort to work together with the other Amatsu-Kami when Mikaboshi was slaughtering lesser Kami, Kaminari has never been one for the formal trappings of the Imperial Court. This is one reason she is sometimes depicted by humans in the guise of an Oni demon.
Tempestuous:
Like the storms she represents Kaminari can be rather fickle and prone to mood swings. Sometimes kind and nurturing like the gentle rains that help crops grow and others as volatile as the raging typhoons that sank the Mongol fleets.
Trickster:
In addition to being fickle, Kaminari also has a mischievous streak. While the stories of her stealing and eating people's belly buttons may be a bit of an exaggeration, she is not above pranks and jokes.

Powers
Amatsu-Kami:
Kaminari is one of the Amatsu-Kami, a race of extra-dimensional beings worshipped as gods similar to the Asgardians and Olympians:
Virtually Immortal: Amatsu-Kami age incredibly slowly upon reaching maturity, and they cannot die by conventional means. They are immune to all terrestrial diseases and are very resistant to conventional physical injury. If they are wounded their godly life force will heal them at a superhuman rate. An injury of great magnitude such as completely incinerating the Amatsu-Kami or a major portion of their body's molecules are dispersed could cause them to die. But it is still possible for other Amatsu-Kami of equal or greater power or several working together to resurrect the fallen one.
Superhuman Physique: Similar to Olympians, Amatsu-Kami physiques are denser than regular humans. In the case of the Amatsu-Kami they are about two times denser. This contributes to their superhuman strength and weight as well as their superior durability. An Amatsu-Kami deity can lift about 20 tons. They can withstand falls from great heights, exposure to extreme temperatures, powerful impacts, and high caliber bullets. While weaker than Asgardians and Olympians in terms of physical strength, the Amatsu-Kami have proportionately faster superhuman reflexes. They also possess superhuman endurance due to their divine metabolism and rarely tire due to physical exertion.
Noise Manipulation:
With Noise as one of her divine portfolios, Kaminari is able to amplify sound of any type to a level equal to the biggest cracks of thunder. She can also do things like create low level white noise in the area around her to prevent eavesdropping by listening devices.
Weather Control:
Kaminari is the goddess of thunder, lightning, and storms. As such she can harness and manipulate the weather with great speed and power. She can turn an otherwise sunny day in a pleasant drizzle that will help crops grow, or a severe thunderstorm to rain on someone's parade so to speak, in a manner of minutes. If roused to anger these storms can become devastating typhoons as both the Mongols and US Navy have learned the hard way, capsizing ships and drowning sailors. She can also harness or even create the individual aspects of storms, such as calling down lightning upon her enemies (or using a very little bit of it to charge her cellphone), manipulating the wind and air pressure to fly, manipulating the humidity to give someone annoying her a bad hair day, or manipulating the temperature to make them sweat or shiver.
Skills
Courtly Skills:
She isn't much of a fan of court, but she knows how to conduct herself in both the Court of the Amatsu-Kami and the mortal Imperial Courts of East Asia. This includes knowing when to bow, what honorifics to use for who, special courtly language, and who gets to drink their sake first. It also includes such skills as tea ceremony, flower arranging, composing Tanka, Waka, and other forms of courtly poetry, as well as games like Hyakunin Isshu. Her ability to compose poetry has been the basis for the lyrics composition of many of her modern rock songs.
Electrical Engineering:
In the late 1800's when the Meiji Restoration brought about Japan's rapid modernization Electricity came to Japan for the first time. Kaminari was fascinated by this mortal attempt at harnessing the power of lightning and for a time took on a human guise to study early Electrical Sciences under many of the luminaries of the day. While she is a bit behind the modern cutting edge after returning to Ama in a huff after World War II, she still has a fairly strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.
Fighting:
While not a soldier per se, Kaminari has taken to the field to defend her homeland on a number of occasions and is not a stranger to a fight. Indeed the Thunder God's penchant for violence (and lightning) particularly when drunk is the subject of many legends. She is also known be a skilled shot with a bow.
Languages:
Kaminari speaks Japanese, Ainu, and several dialects of Mandarin and Cantonese. In addition, due to receiving her initial education on the modern world during Japan's Meiji Era modernization Kaminari can also speak German, French, English, Dutch, and Portuguese. The key languages of 'Western Learning' at the time.
Mahjong:
Kaminari was an early adopter of Mahjong in the 17th Centurty and has been an avid player ever since. With centuries of practice and experience she could easily dominate the Pro Circuit, if she wasn't banned, which she is.
Music:
As the goddess of Noise, Kaminari has long been associated with music. One of her traditional symbols was the Taiko drum. Even before her modern music career she was highly proficient at singing and a variety of musical instruments, particularly percussion, as well as composing. In the modern era she has added things like synthesizers and especially electric guitars to her repertoire. Due to her love of electronics she has also become proficient with DJ equipment as well.

Agent:
Dealing with record executives, contract negotiations, and concert organizing details can be tedious and not at all interesting. For these things Kaminari has her trusted Tanaka Hanako agent who makes sure everything happens that needs to happen so that the show can go on.
Fame:
Kaminari is a global rock sensation. Her music was already pretty divine and her shows enhanced with special effects that most mortal acts would be hard pressed to compete with, but the rise of Japan's global pop cultural influence has catapulted her music career in ways that would have otherwise never been possible. She has fans in every part of the world, fans who would be willing to do an awful lot to help her should she ever ask.
Kunitsu-Kami Contacts:
In Shinto there are two types of Kami, the Amatsu-Kami who inhabit the High Plain of Heaven and the Kunitsu-Kami who inhabit the mortal realm. Due to the time Kaminari has spent living on Earth she has developed contacts among these Earthly Kami spirits.
Wealth:
Kaminari is quite wealthy. When she first left Ama again following the events of Mikaboshi's sealing she sold a few ancient and/or magical relics to set herself financially. She has since become an international pop culture sensation and accumulated the kind of wealth that that level of stardom brings.
Weaknesses
Black Sheep:
Kaminari is not exactly the favorite child of Ama these days. While her behavior of late has often been compared to her brother SusanoO's rebellious phase, that wasn't particularly endearing either considering it temporarily drove the Sun from the world. While Amaterasu hasn't retreated to a cave just yet, she is incredibly jealous of her sister passing her as the most popular member of the Amatsu-Kami and incensed at the 'base' methods she used to accomplish it. As far as Izanagi is concerned rock music is all noise anyway.
Fame:
Fame is a double edged sword. While the deity in her loves the worship, it can be hard for her to go out in public without getting swarmed by fans and Japanophiles. While some fans might be willing to do an awful lot to help her others might be prone to trying to stalk her. When she goes out in public she's either Kaminari Goddess of Thunder and Noise! Or wearing a baseball cap and dark sunglasses trying to be inconspicuous, there is no in between.
Love of Electric Tech:
Ever since the electrical sciences first made their way to Japan, Kaminari has been in love with the ways that humans utilize captured lightning to make all sorts of fascinating devices. She is at times easily distracted by new such devices she has not seen before.
Missing Treasures:
Kaminari is uh missing a few things that she hasn't told Ama about. Nobody really asked where her wheel of the Heavenly Taiko Drums or the golden Vajras she used to play them were when she was in Ama for the Mikaboshi incident, but she'd really like to get them back before anyone does. There's plenty of other mystic treasures in Ama but they're certainly not going to trust her with any of those if it gets out that she lost her own.
In truth she got drunk following Japan's surrender at the end of World War II, picked a fight with a powerful Western hero who was in Tokyo as part of MacArthur's occupation force and lost, losing her treasures in the process and barely evading capture herself thanks to some well timed fog.
Pursued By Yomi:
Mikaboshi might be sealed away in Yomi at the moment, but his minions aren't. He would love nothing more than to destroy the Amatsu-Kami and Kaminari currently has the highest profile among them. While it would be foolish for them to try and strike at her openly given her public profile and the attention they'd receive from other heroes, they plot and scheme just waiting for the opportunity to exact even a fraction of Mikaboshi's vengeance.
Substance Abuse:
Kaminari has always had a thing for sake. Some of Japan's most violent typhoons historically can be traced back to her drunken benders. While the physiological density and metabolism of the Amatsu-Kami greatly increases the amount required and thus made such incidents comparably rare in the past, the life of a rock star has lead to easy access to hedonistic excess and the discovery of cocaine.
