Yondu Udonta is the commander of the pirate vessel SS Eclector. He's blacklisted by his fellow Ravagers and on the outs with a very powerful client. Half his crew would steal his ship and space him if they thought they could get away with it. Despite all this adversity, Yondu remains an imposing (and threatening) name among mercenaries, pirates, and scavengers.

Timeline

Timeline:
1946: Yondu Udonta is born on Centauri IV.

1962: Kree slavers buy Yondu from his parents. He is forced to fight as a gladiator.

1970: With the consent of his owner, Yondu has cybernetic augmentations installed to replace his ruined dorsal fins.

1972: Ravager Captain Stakar Ogord purchases combat slaves to reinforce his ranks. Yondu is among this lot. He is still captive but no longer trapped in a cage.

1982: The rank of Captain is conferred upon Yondu by Ogord himself.

1990: Yondu starts accepting contracts to deliver enslaved children to a mysterious client.

1996: Yondu covertly visits Earth and kidnaps Peter Quill. Misgivings about the client, and the censorship of the Ravagers, inclines Yondu to take the boy under his wing and raise him as a Ravager.

2020: Yondu's age is catching up to him. He's slowing down, he's still on the outs with the Ravagers, and his crew does nothing but piss him off. All the hope he has left is for Quill to finish growing the hell up before Yondu kicks the bucket.

Personality

Commander:
A Ravager Captain must be stronger, smarter, tougher, wilier, and meaner than the rest of his command. Yondu fought his way to the top of the pecking order among the Ravagers, and has held that spot against all comers with a combination of strength, wits, and charisma.

Father:
The Ravagers are family. He'll do anything for them, even die for them, if that's necessary. It inspired near-fanatical loyalty among most of his subordinates, and the rest of them will stay loyal as long as he keeps them paid, drunk, and well-fed.

Ruthless:
You don't get to be a Ravager captain by collecting bottle-caps. Yondu was kidnapped by Kree slavers as a child and spent his life in gladiatorial combat. He climbed to the top of the heap then started over again as a pirate. Suffice that Yondu has very few, if any, qualms against violence.

Whimsical:
Why not? There's a sentimental streak in the old blue bastard's heart. He enjoys a good joke as much as the next guy and collects trinkets that remind him of people, or which just make him smile.

Character Sheet

Powers

Centaurian:
Centaurians are a comparatively undeveloped race and society, indigenous to the planet Centauri IV. They are bipedal humanoids that brachiate through heavily overgrown forests. On average they are slightly stronger and more resilient than a healthy human. Centaurians sport a large red dorsal fin on their heads and upper back, which serves to detect and amplify sound in their area and effect a weak sense of echolocation.

Cybernetics:
Yondu was kidnapped by Kree slavers when he was a boy. His dorsal fins were damaged in gladiator combat and amputated. After Yondu started winning bouts and saving money he negotiated for a cybernetic suite to replace the echolocator. This allows him to directly control the motions of his preferred weapon: the Yaka Arrow.

Skills

Archery:
Yondu was too young to be taught Centaurian archery. He built his 'yaka arrow' as a tribute to his people and uses it to equally devastating effect. Thanks to his echolocation and a sense of proprioception he can maneuver it effortlessly with whistles and bionic commands, even if it is out of his line of sight.

Brawler:
There is nothing pretty about how Yondu fights. It's up close and nasty when he goes hands-on and he has no compunctions about aiming to kill, even with his bare hands. This technique is pretty effective and ensures that Yondu won't get his clock cleaned by the first drunk in a bar dumb enough to hassle him.

Gunslinger:
Yondu hasn't needed a gun since he started using the Yaka arrow-- but in a pinch he can still lay down fire. He's familiar with impact and energy weapons that are commonly seen in the Kree Empire.

Intimidating:
Yondu knows how to make any sentient sweat. His ruthless charm makes it easy to intimidate, coerce, bluff, or just plain manipulate. Enemies, marks, and friends are all fair targets.

Mechanic:
Every Captain came up banging on the pipes to make them work once in a while. Yondu knows the Eclector inside and out and is a fair hand at working on the M-ships. He can repair, modify, and salvage most contemporary spacefaring vessels. And he can do it with substandard tools and inadequate parts.

Navigator:
There are secret paths everywhere. Sometimes those paths are undocumented hyperspace lanes, and sometimes they're an approach through a nebula cloud that blinds sensors. Yondu is very adept at avoiding the authorities-- or whomever else is after him.

Pilot:
He's not as fast as he used to be but Yondu's twice as wily. Not a lot of fliers can keep up with him when he's got a hand on the wheel. Big vessels like the *Eclector* can be made to do a ballet in the stars. In a nimble purpose-built fighter, he can make it handle like a housefly.

Resources

Cartel Network:
There are few things that Yondu can't buy, find, or sell on the black market. He knows where to go for illegal goods, who to talk to, and how much heat a job is going to pull down. Much of Yondu's duties revolve around keeping his lieutenants in the field on task with a steady supply of 'asset recovery' missions.

Eclector:
The Eclector is a former mining vessel that has been repurposed to serve the needs of the Ravagers under Yondu's command. It can berth anyway from 100-400 personnel and sustain them for up to a year between refueling. There is room for up to 20 M-ships and a few light shuttlecraft. The ship can divide into four quadrants for evasion or combat maneuvering. It is equipped with salvage equipment to mine space asteroids and strip derelicts for parts. The ship is hugely overpowered, up- armored, loaded to the gills with weapons, and the engines belong to a ship two classes larger. Fortunately there are no pesky safety regulations to get in the way of the (highly illegally) modified vessel.

Ravagers:
Yondu Udonta is one of around 100 Ravager Captains. Under normal conditions he would sit at the Captain's Council to vote on issues that affect the whole of the pirating clan. Yondu is obligated to give aid to Ravagers if called upon and must adhere to the Ravager Code of Conduct. Yondu was disgraced after kidnapping children to serve up to a mysterious but powerful client.

Yaka Arrow:
Yondu created his own version of the 'yaka arrow'. His preferred weapon is this self-propelled projectile. A combination of his cybernetics, mental focus, and whistling gives him near-limitless command of the projectile. The penetrating tip can smash through un-armored hulls and many kinds of body armor. It can travel as fast as a high-powered rifle round.

Weaknesses

Eclector's Crew:
Yondu's got a few loyal lieutenants but the rest of them are murdering scum with itchy trigger fingers and short attention spans. It's not easy to keep them in line and their morale could break very easily.

Fugitive:
Yondu has kill-on-sight warrants in many systems and is wanted in many more. Rearming and resupplying means visiting lawless stations or venturing into unpoliced territories. If he leaves the fringe regions and enters core space the response will be very hostile.

Ravagers:
Yondu is on the outs with the Ravager clans. After kidnapping Peter Quill from Earth, word got back to the Ravagers that Yondu had started slaving for profit. This violated one of the few ethical boundaries of the Ravagers. Yondu's authority as a Captain is not recognized; he is accorded no honors and his fellow Ravagers will blacklist anyone who deals with him. This also means Yondu has to hire pirates who are such reprobates that even the Ravagers won't take them.

The Kid:
Peter was supposed to be one more job, one more delivery. Instead Yondu took a liking to him. Made the mistake of learning his name. Trained him up. The boy may vex Yondu, piss him off, get his ass kicked or get hauled in by a bounty hunter-- but it remains to be seen just how far he'll go to keep Quill alive.

You Heard of Me?:
Yondu's reputation doesn't endear him to polite society. He's a violent and crass thug and often outright unscrupulous. Aside from the Ravagers not wanting to deal with him, Yondu struggles to find gainful employment through legitimate contracting channels.
