Character Info
Profile
Melissa Gold is a member of Thunderbolts and, in reverse chronological order, a former supervillain, a former superpowered wrestler, a former criminal, a former wrestler, and a former street child. She is noted for her aggression, her bluntness, her sonic powers, and for not being trusted because of her extremely colourful past.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 1995: Born in the Sunset Trailer Park in Soshoni, Wyoming, to Norman Arthur Gold and Mimi Schwartz Gold.
* 2006: Mother robbed an elderly local, one Mr. Tollefson, arrested, and then sent to the state penitentiary. Constant bullying and taunting from her peers for having a convict mother, combined with a drinking father who'd beat her for mentioning her mother, turned her life a living Hell.
* 2007: Deciding, incorrectly, that her mother wasn't in jail but rather had left for some mysterious reason, Melissa ran away to find her, taking on her mother's name as a persona and never returning to Shoshoni.
* 2012: Growing on the street, doing anything (including the sale of her body) to survive, she eventually, at age 17, fell in love with a criminal, Mike Brodsky, who, upon stolen goods being found in their shared apartment, framed her for the theft and had her, broken-hearted, sentenced to prison. Her "Mimi" persona hardened in prison to survive, even with the help of one Marian "Poundcakes" Pouncy, her cellmate who'd taken "Mimi" under her wing.
* 2013: Upon exiting prison, Pouncy introduced "Mimi" to her colleagues, women wrestlers, with the four (Poundcakes, Letha, Titania, and Screaming Mimi by stage name) forming the colourful shoot-wrestling team The Grapplers.
* 2014: Dissatisfied with not receiving as much pay as male shoot-wrestlers, The Grapplers hire out with Roxxon Oil Company on an illegal mission, each being enhanced to help them with their mission. (This was when Screaming Mimi first started to scream, using built-in devices.) The mission failed as a result of Quasar's intervention.
* 2016: Released from prison, and finding that female wrestling had died out in their absence, the four joined the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation, taking treatments from Power Broker that turned them into superhumans. Their pasts came back to haunt them, however, and first Titania was killed, and then Letha as she tried to avenge the former.
* 2017: Mimi met Helmut Zemo and joined his shadowy group, meeting Angar the Screamer with whom she began a long-term relationship. Losing Angar in a robbery, dying in Mimi's arms, Mimi screamed in grief for 43 minutes until she nearly destroyed her vocal cords. Zemo utilized the services of The Fixer to give Mimi new sonic powers that partially mimicked and partially enhanced those given her by Power Broker.
* 2018: Mimi was selected to head up a fake superhero team as a front for the group. Meeting Mach I (Abner Jenkins) she joined several of the band in enjoying the heroics and accolades their antics generated, eventually joining forces with several, including Mach I, to turn on Zemo and out him as a villain. Abner took the fall and went to jail for the group, leaving the group to disband and Mimi once again alone, something Mimi has never really forgiven.
* 2019: With Abner in jail, and Mimi waiting for him, she started her life anew as a genuine superhero working, despite her dark past and many, many crimes to repay, to fight for justice and to defend the defenseless.

Personality
Aggressive:
The solution to all problems is to tackle them head-on. If aggression isn't enough, increase the aggression. It's the Melissa way.
Brutal:
Melissa has had a very hard life filled with betrayal and bitterness. Her "Mimi" persona is the product of this and is largely the expression of her will to live. And she will live, at all costs, not holding back, always doing what it takes to get a threat out of the way.
Clingy:
In perverse counterpoint to being a Loner, deep down Melissa is terrified of being alone and is desperate to belong (albeit aloofly) to SOMETHING beyond herself, whether that be her previous relationship with Angar or current one with the jailed MACH-I, or membership in The Grapplers or Thunderbolts. Being alone is deep down her deepest, secret fear and has led to many of her worst decisions and tragedies.
Loner:
In the end you can only count on three people: me, myself, and I. Melissa, as "Mimi", does not open to others, preferring to be left out of social activities, always aloof when present.
Character Sheet
Powers
Acoustikinesis:
Between vocal cord implants and the external harness that wraps her throat and shoulders, Melissa has a large number of sonic-based abilities that she can generate at will. With the exception of Sonic Influence, and with just her general ability to generate the precise tone she needs to make (part of which she uses in singing) all of these manifest as pink-lit effects, easily visible when used.
Sonic Blast - At full strength, configured for killing, she can disintegrate steel over time. What this does to people is best left to the imagination. Configured more usually for stunning, she can overwhelm the hearing and very nervous system of a target in no time flat, knocking them out with little effort. This ability can be used both directed at a single target or in a radius around her against all within that area.
Sonic Influence - Using ultra-high frequency sound at very low levels below conscious experience, Melissa can influence the actions of those she targets in ways that mimic post-hypnotic suggestion, although extemporaneously, not requiring the forward planning of hypnosis. (OOC note: This power will only be used against another player character with full consent of said character. I will page for permission and use it only if a "yes" is given.)
Sonic Force Field - Melissa can protect herself from physical attack by using intensely powerful, focused sound to direct it away from her.
Sonic Constructs - Melissa can make a variety of simple sonic "objects" with real physical-feeling presence like battering rams, maces, hammers, pincers, and even platforms sufficient to bear a person's weight (albeit briefly).
Sonic Flight - One of the most commonly-created sonic objects she makes are a pair of wings of pure sonic energy that allows her to propel herself through the air at great speeds, up to the speed of sound. (A trivial additional application of the Sonic Force Field protects her from the impact of travelling at such speeds.)
Superhuman Agility:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, Melissa's nervous system is very fast and very efficient, giving her balance, agility, and coordination that are well beyond the limits of the finest peak human athletes.
Superhuman Durability:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, Melissa's bodily tissues and skeleton are much more resistant to most forms of impact and blunt trauma damage. She can fall from great heights and be repeatedly struck with superhuman force in ways that would kill normal humans without much, if any, physical injury.
Superhuman Reflexes:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, as with Agility, and for the same reason, Melissa's reflexes exceed those of the finest peak human athletes.
Superhuman Speed:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, the superior energy efficiency and force of Melissa's muscles allows her to run and move at speeds well in excess of the finest peak human athletes.
Superhuman Stamina:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, Melissa's muscles generate far fewer fatigue toxins during exertion allowing her to exert herself at full output for several hours before fatigue starts to impair her performance.
Superhuman Strength:
Courtesy of the Power Broker augmentation, Melissa's musculature, skeltal structure, and connective tissues were drastically strengthened, giving her the power to lift about two tons.
Skills
Acrobatics:
As a show wrestler, Melissa was taught a wide variety of acrobatic moves that her later-enhanced body elevated into Olympic-quality and beyond.
Evasive Flight:
While flying she is capable of rapid turns, jinks, and other evasive maneouvers that spoil aim and make her a harder target to hit.
Marksmanship:
She is well-trained in precision targetting of her sonic powers.
Perfect Pitch:
Both in the passive sense (she can recognize the frequency of any note she hears) and in the active sense (she can mentally "hear" a note from knowing a frequency).
Showmanship:
As a show wrestler, Melissa learned early that PERFORMANCE was the key to success, not just wrestling skill.
Singing:
She sings. What a surprise. A sound-augmenter learned to sing and can do so at a professional level.
Skilled Combatant:
Melissa has had a lot of training and practical experience in hand to hand combat, most notably shoot-wrestling. Factoring into this, despite her burned-out vocal cords, now requiring technological augmentation to use for her signature sonic powers, she still has all of her remaining superhuman physical attributes which enhance her already formidable skills in fighting.
Urban Survival:
She lived on the street between ages 12 to 17 and knows what it takes to live. Some of it best not talked about in her presence.
Resources
Sonic Harness:
The source of her sonic powers, without it she has only her augmented physique working for her, but with it she is a top-notch sonic manipulator. (The harness cannot be used by another without a long, painstaking period of adjustment.)
Thunderbolts:
Melissa is a member in good standing of the reformed Thunderbolts (and was once its leader).
Underworld:
Melissa's days as a criminal are not far behind her and she still knows plenty of people in the demimonde should the need arise for plumbing those depths.
Weaknesses
Alienated:
Being untrusted has left Melissa feeling alienated, something which feeds into her fear of solitude which can be exploited by a canny enemy.
Fear of Solitude:
Deep down Melissa is absolutely terrified of being alone. People using that fear against her can persuade her to do very stupid things detrimental to herself and her friends.
Rash:
Melissa is prone to acting first, then acting later. Thinking isn't her strong suit.
Uneducated:
Melissa is barely literate, having dropped out of school at the age of 12. She cannot balance a chequebook and can barely work out how to make change should the need arise. The world of literature, science, math, civics ... practically anything that a normal person learns in high school ... is beyond her comfortable grasp (though she has learned some of it via hard knocks along the way).
Untrusted:
It is not that long ago that she was a criminal, and she's been a criminal far longer than she's been a hero. Memories are long and many people keep far closer eyes on her than they would on others of similar status.
