Character Info
Profile
Cal'hatar, AKA Michael Erickson, is a deep-cover agent of the Shi'ar Empire who was dispatched to Earth sometime in 1975. Aware of the presence of the Kree, as well as a wide variety of other aliens present there, elements of the Shi'ar Empire sought to dispatch agents to monitor alien occurrences on this and other planets. To this end, Cal'hatar - under his guise of the human Michael Erickson and Erickson's secret identity, the crimefighter Red Sentinel - has pursued a lengthy career of espionage and occasional sabotage to ensure that the Empire's interests are best served. But after forty years of living on Earth and serving as the Red Sentinel, Cal'hatar has come to love humans, and come to question the ways of his people. Militancy isn't the only way to go, after all, and being isolated from the warrior society from whence he came, the Shi'ar agent now wonders what he would actually do should the Empire come calling.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 1950: Born on Chandilar to the minor noble house of Atlex.
* 1965: Enrolled into the Imperial Military Academy as part of the Youth Cadres, with an intention of joining the officer corps.
* 1967: Routed into the Intelligence Cadres after he demonstrates puissance in reconnaissance and battlefield intelligence studies.
* 1970: Having proven himself in the Cadres and finished his military education with distinction, Cal'hatar is dispatched to serve with Imperial forces on the far-flung world of Jatuur during the conquest of that world. Proves extremely useful to sabotaging enemy resources and interrogating prisoners.
* 1971: Jatuur campaign ends. Cal'hatar is dispatched to the homeworld once more for advanced training, and spends the next four years working throughout the empire on various anti-terrorism and anti-rebellion actions, some of which were against the faction led by Deathbird, a rebellious member of the royal family.
* 1975: Cal'hatar is hand-picked by Imperial Military Intelligence as part of a program to reconnoiter certain target worlds whose development may be of interest - or threaten - the Imperium in the future. Cal'hatar is dispatched to planet 332-55-ZA in the Milky Way galaxy, also known as Earth.
* 1990: After fifteen years of investigation of the planet and cataloguing the rise of multiple metahumans, the formation of the Fantastic Four and the Doom Incident steers Cal'hatar into investigating the culture of metahuman heroes and villains more closely. Adapting the identity of the armor-wearing hero, Red Sentinel, Cal'hatar surfaces from time to time to assist in combating superpowered threats but does so under strict secrecy and by fading away as quickly as he arrives. This minimizes his exposure to metahumans, and ensures he is quickly forgotten as career superheroes take on the spotlight.
* Present Day: Though he still appears as the Red Sentinel, Cal'hatar has also spent the last thirty years stealing or outright sabotaging an increasing flow of alien relics falling into the hands of private citizens and supervillains (and heroes) alike. Having taken on the identity of Michael Erickson, security consultant, he is able to further prosecute his aims by going to locations across the world 'on duty' while carring out Shi'ar directives. He knows that the Shi'ar must be known about to some, and that his mission cannot continue as it is for much longer. Worse still, his time on earth has divided his loyalties as he has come to respect and even love this planet. The center cannot hold forever...

Personality
Curious:
Always interested in learning new things and meeting new people, Cal'hatar was an adventurous soul at home and doubly so now that he's abroad.
Detached:
While coming to appreciate humans and the (largely) democratic melting-pot of global society that has come to exist on Earth, Cal'hatar's training as a spy and his own alien nature can give him a detached, even aloof appearance around people when not actively avoiding being so. This can be translated from anything from mystique to outright coldness depending on the person.
Empathic:
Though outwardly cold at times, Cal'hatar is skilled at reading people, analyzing their emotional state and body language as much as their words. This sensitivity goes far in helping him carry out his mission, but it also has opened him up to going as native as he has. It also grants him a streak of sympathy and warmth that is otherwise rarely seen in the military cadres.
Resolve:
Forged in the training programs of the Shi'ar military, Cal'hatar is possessed of a singular, iron will.

Resources
Hand Weapons:
Cal'hatar as a small store of Shi'ar weaponry at his disposal. These are limited to small arms, melee weapons, and devices handy for sabotage (light explosives, chemical charges, etc.). They are rarely used, however, given the nature of the technology and its potentially detectable alien origin.
Intruder Armor:
Note: This armor was destroyed in battle with the Shi'ar and the entry kept for historical reasons. Cal'hatar is equipped with a suit of Shi'ar Intruder Armor, a combination of lightweight body armor and spy suit utilizing advanced holographic technology akin to that found in the X-Men's Danger Room. Equipped with a variety of sensors granting the wearer a form of Penta-Vision, the suit can project a holographic field to look and feel like a wide variety of garments, including a light- and sensor-absorptive stealth mode. It can also create solid-light constructions of a variety of Shi'ar devices specific to security and espionage, though any devices must draw from its internal power supply (charge based on the needs of a given scene.) This system does not create weapons, but the suit integrates laser-sharp combat talons into its fingertips.
Psychogenetic Implants:
Woven throughout his musculature, filaments of engineered l'taal crystal make his genetic and telepathic signature to appear human to a wide variety of scanning devices. This may not apply to alien technologies, however, or particularly advanced examples (such as made by luminaries as Mister Fantastic and Tony Stark.) These can also be circumvented once their existence is discovered and properly analyzed. Further surgery has replaced his feathers with human-equivalent hair made from self-growing crystalline fibers.
Raptor Armor:
Replacing the largely inoperative suit of Intruder Armor he had previous to the battle at Anandale, Michael/Cal'hatar has become one with a suit of Shi'ar Raptor Armor that he destroyed during the conflict. The Shi'ar Raptor armor, part of an extremely rare but powerful line of suits, is a techno-organic construct which is equal part AI-driven android and pilotable mechanism. Left on its own, it can be a fearsome if unimaginative combatant; merged with a skilled fighter such as Michael/Cal'hatar, its power becomes lethal to a wide variety of enemies. The armor confers the following qualities:
SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH/REFLEXES: Raptor armor can lift as much as 25 tons. In combat, its strength is enough to knock out super-stamina opponents such as Venom when properly applied. It can bend and reshape metals and other high-strength materials bare handed if required. Reflexes are also highly advanced compared to human beings.
SUPERHUMAN DURABILITY/REGENERATION: Being mechanical in nature, Raptor armor can suffer significant damage before rendered inoperable. The armor has significant self-repair systems that will allow it to reshape itself back into operating function, assuming there is enough material left to do so (being thrown into a star or a fusion core, for example, would destroy it utterly.) Truly catastrophic damage would require the introduction of other objects for reconstruction via technopathy/technomorphism. A heavily damaged suit without such resources would be out of commission, possibly for a long period of time.
ENHANCED SENSES/TRANSLATION MATRIX: The Raptor Armor confers x-ray, thermal, micro/macrovision, and infrared vision as well as navigational systems, as well as being able to see through most camouflage and image/holographic based disguises. It also serves as having a universal translator, though at the moment this system is AI-controlled and thus denied to Michael/Cal'hatar.
DATASONG: The Raptor's techo-organic nature confers upon it a form of cyberpathy that allows it to control most forms of technology to varying degrees depending on complexity. Theoretically this also extends to inorganic life, though a contest of wills would be required (and a difficult one indeed.) Michael/Cal'hatar is currentely cut off from the Datasong, however.
FLIGHT: The Raptor is capable of transonic and interstellar flight through its wing-like aerofoils and more exotic travel systems. These retractable wings also serve as razor-sharp blades in battle.
ENERGY PROJECTION: The Raptor armor can project thin but powerful force fields to protect itself in battle, and can also project beams of various types of energy/radiation from the crystal in its chest. Currently this system is denied Cal'hatar/Michael due to AI rejection.
TALONS: The Raptor Armor is equipped with laser-sharp talons on its fingertips.
PILOT HEALING: As the Raptor is connected with its pilot, being rooted at the Tree of Shadows in Null Space when not in use, its pilot is transported there when the armor is in action. While transported to Null Space the pilot is encased within a healing pod, which can heal all but the most grievous injuries in time.
RECONFIGURATION: Raptor Armor confers the ability to warp itself into various configurations, these having a wide degree of combat equipment extruded from the armor itself. Being tied directly to the AI system, Michael is denied this ability for the moment.
Weaknesses
A Man Alone:
As a deep-cover agent, Cal'hatar was sent to Earth via one-way teleporter link. Unless recalled or by some stolen intergalactic vessel, he is stuck on Earth with what equipment he was sent with.
Alien Physiology:
While his alien nature is masked by the implants in his body, Cal'hatar is still an alien being. Injuries that he cannot heal with medical devices brought with him upon arrival would make his alien body obvious upon arrival in a hospital. He has been extremely careful not to allow this to happen until now, but anything can happen...
Alter Ego:
Cal'hatar has cultivated a double layer of alter egos to assist in his work, the dual cover of Michael Erickson and Erickson's 'secret identity' as the street-level gadgeteer hero, Red Sentinel. While these identities have been meticulously developed, they ultimately have little behind them beyond a paper trail; should sufficient curiosity be brought to bear against Erickson's identity it would collapse, leaving a void that Cal'hatar would be hard-pressed to explain.
Brutal:
Though he has softened significantly since arriving on Earth, in combat Cal'hatar can still be a brutal opponent - he sometimes goes a little far. It takes some doing to suppress the conqueror nature of the Shi'ar and his warrior training to ensure he doesn't kill or maim people outright.
Divided Loyalties:
After thirty years on Earth, Cal'hatar has come to question a great deal about what makes the Shi'ar Empire tick. Though he remains a patriot for the time being, he remains in quiet turmoil and anxiety about what to do should the Empire one day come calling.
Fellable By Sorcery:
The mystical nature of the Raptor Armor makes it susceptible to certain families of magic, though what these might be is a closely guarded secret - and without the AI talking to him, a secret to Cal'hatar as well.
Strangeness:
Even though he has had decades to settle into life on Earth, he sometimes displays inconvenient unfamiliarity with some aspects of human cultures, and his lack of ability to dream as a Shi'ar makes some aspects of human life utterly alien to him. He has, over time, been able to pass this off as quirkiness, but a knowledgeable (or sufficiently suspicious) individual might be able to sniff him out.
The Enemy Within:
Given the nature of Michael's seizing of the armor, the AI system within - itself practically a sentient creature, reacts to the death of its pilot with absolute hatred and rejection. Though he can use many of his armor's already formidable physical abilities, most of the armor's most powerful and mystical capabilities are currently barred from him. It is only his own iron will that restricts the AI system this much, but use of the armor is forever to be a battle -- a battle that, should he lose, will see him cut off entirely from the armor and lost in Null Space. Should he win... but that will be a long, hard battle to fight, however he chooses to seek victory.
The Enemy Without:
In seizing the armor and killing its pilot, Michael has in effect usurped a place in the Raptor Fraternity - and they are not having it. From here on, until some method of appeasing the Fraternity is found, he has made a powerful enemy...and they all have their own, fully functional suits. This will transcend galactic politics; even if peace is made with the Empire and Lilandra put on the throne, he will still need to make some kind of penance in the end, and it won't be light.
Tied To the System:
Due to the nature of Michael/Cal'hatar's essentially forced seizure of the damaged Raptor suit in order to save his life, the extreme resistance of the armor suit to allow this to happen, and the psychic death-scream of its former pilot resulting from their connection to the suit being forcibly cut, Michael's life essence is now (and possibly forever) tied to Null Space and the Raptor to which it has been paired. Should Michael ever lose the battle of wills the AI system engages him in when the suit is active, or should some interdimensional occurance take place that disrupts the connection to Null Space, Michael will be either trapped in Null Space should he be using the armor at the time, or killed immediately should he be in the living world.
Traitor:
Cal'hatar is now considered a traitor in the Empire, and though his family is gone but for him, reprisals to its name, lands, extended allies and history will be done with all due prejudice at home.
