Profile
Master storyteller, patient crafter of societies, adroit scout and an experienced fighter: all truthful descriptions of Sprite. As an Eternal she spent millennia residing on Earth after helping a cadre of her kind defeat the Deviants plaguing the vulnerably pre-historic communities of humans residing there. At the time a preteen boy, Sprite was the inspiration for mythological trickster beings around the world as well as at least two mischievous young men in Western literature. Recently (just outside the most recent century), Sprite died in a natural disaster only to be reborn as a young teenaged girl, thus expanding her views and interests with this change of personal perspective.
Timeline
Timeline 1:
* 50,000 BCE: Sprite is among the bio-engineered Eternal species created by the Celestials on
New Genesis called the Forever People.
* 45,000 BCE: Sprite is part of a small group of Eternals
that travel to Earth in order to combat the Deviants plaguing the planet. Along with a handful of
others he chooses to remain, primarily residing in the Eternal's city of Titanos.
* 25,000 BCE:
Beginning to spend more time around humans, Sprite helps them begin to craft the foundations of
civilization: traditions, stories and oral records of their history.
* 15,000 BCE: Ragnarok!
Sprite's role in the conflict sparked by the Celestials coming to Earth was mainly as a messenger,
helping coordinate the troops. However, he played for both sides: on one hand there was the loyalty
to his creators and people and on the other was his love of the nascent human cultures. Never fully
committing to either side he made sure that his involvement never really helped or hurt either
side's cause too much.
[continued in Timeline 2]
Timeline 2:
* 15,000 to 3,000 BCE: Following Ragnarok, Sprite spent the Hyborean Era travelling the world:
sometimes alone, sometimes in the company of other Eternals. During this period he immersed himself
in the diverging human cultures and also often pranked the people of the world under a myriad of
names including Puck which would survive to be made unforgettable by a certain famous
playwright.
* 12,915 BCE: Unbeknownst to Ikaris, Sprite is a witness to the flight and subsequent
death of his son (as the "young" Eternal had been coming to visit his "elder" friend). Subsequently,
Sprite spreads censored versions of the story around the area of Mesolithic Greece planting the
seeds that would develop into the mythological story of Iccarus in Greece as well as similar legends
around the world.
* 3,000 BCE: After his fellow Eternal Gilgamesh became the King of Uruk, Sprite
resides in that Sumerian city during his companion's reign helping with the education and training
of the King's adopted son and future heir. After helping Gilgamesh stage his "death" so that the
crown can be inherited, Sprite resumes his global travels.
[continued in Timeline 3]
Timeline 3:
* 3,000 BCE to 1590 CE: Sprite resumes his travels around the world, observing the continued
development of cultures based on the seeds he'd planted millennia in the past. True to his nature,
the pranks and tricks continued to follow him. His wanderlust faded upon the discovery of a new
playwright in fifteenth century London where he settled for a time.
* 1590 to 1616 CE: Sprite
insinuated himself into the life of William Shakespeare's life: disguised with his illusions he
joined Lord Chamberlain's Men (the leading theatrical troupe in London) and even - undisguised -
becoming Robin the Good Fellow, an "imaginary friend" of the Bard's twin children Hammet and Judith
(the children "knew" he was real but the adults didn't; this ended after Hammet's death and Judith's
memories of him faded over time), which inspired the character Puck.
* 1616 to 1900 CE: Following
the death of the Bard, Sprite leaves England specifically and Europe to an extent. Much of this time
is spend in Edo Period Japan although he makes return visits to the "newly discovered" North
American and Australian continents a couple of times as well during this time.
[continued
in Timeline 4]
Timeline 4:
* 1901 CE: Having decided that nearly three centuries is long enough, Sprite returns to Englind
in time to inspire J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" by appearing before the author in Hyde Park, levitating
and laughing playfully in sight of the man.
* 1906: During a visit to California, Sprite is
present for the San Francisco Earthquake. Crushed by rubble he dies but is reborn, awakening as a
girl almost half a decade older than she was as the eternal boy she had been.
* 1920s CE: Despite
the Prohibition, Sprite enjoyed the 1920s as she embraced the role of a Flapper and enjoyed the
invention of film and television, related industries that entangle her life for decades
* 1943
CE: Sprite attends the Academy Awards the night that Casablanca won the Outstanding Motion Picture
award.
* 1950s CE onward: Sprite actively encourages the growth of Rock music, reveling in the
mixture of entertainment value and the intra-generational chaos it send though Western society.
[continued in Timeline 5]
Timeline 5:
* 1969 CE: Sprite attends Woodstock.
* 1992 CE: Having happened to be visiting Florida,
Sprite helps the citizens of Miami in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
* 2001 CE: Having
immersed herself in the New York art and fashion scenes for the past half-decade, Sprite was in New
York City during the 9-11 attack. Working under a disguise, she is among the first responders
helping out in the rescue activities during the days following the attack.
* 2021 CE: As the end
of the year approaches Sprite, along with other Eternals, comes out of the shadows?

Personality
Ancient Youth:
As an ancient being who is also still a youth, Sprite can be viewed as a living
contradiction. She can go from exhibiting the awestruck wonder of a child to the jaded world
weariness of a being as old as the modern human species. Her curiosity is practically "hardwired"
into her, her impish demeanor is an act that has been worn so long that she sometimes forgets it is
one, but at the same time she is all to well knowing that she is on the outside looking inward on a
part of life that she will never attain. This always colors this old youngster's behavior.
Storyteller:
Sprite is at her core a storyteller. In the most ancient sense, storytellers are teachers
and this is also true of the youngest seeming Eternal. If a story needs to be told, she will feel it
as a deep urge; if there is a teaching moment, she will be loath to let it pass by unaddressed.
Character Sheet
Powers
Homo Immortalis:
Sprite's body, fueled by cosmic energy, is superhuman. She is virtually immortal and
indestructible; injuries and death can occur due to extraordinarily powerful forces but her body
will regenerate from any damage and will even return to life if she dies but is not completely
destroyed. She is capable of lifting multiple tons of weight even without supplementing her physical
strength with her telekinetic abilities. She is also capable of peak human feats of agility,
dexterity and grace.
Illusions:
Sprite is able to create extraordinarily realistic illusions out of cosmic energy which
affect all five senses and, for most people, are indistinguishable from reality. Possessing
millennia of practice with this ability, her skill at crafting these illusions transcend what is
typically considered an illusion including the ability to alter people's perceptions in real time
even to the point of full sensory deprivation of what is actually happening around them. [This is
explicitly a consent-based power.]
Matter Manipulation:
Using a limited form of matter transmutation, Sprite is capable of manipulating matter, i.e.
anything in the universe that has substance and mass/physical form, down to the atomic level. This
requires an understanding of the material she is working with and the greater the changes the more
she has to concentrate and focus upon it. She must be in physical contact with the material she is
manipulating in order to do this and is unable to apply this power to living matter.
Telekinesis:
Like many Eternals, Sprite possesses telekinetic powers. While her primary use of this is
her flight she can use it to boost her strength, move things with her mind, create force fields and
toss bolts of pure telekinetic force. Her maximum weight limit is about twelve tons which she can
apply out to a distance of about thirty meters (nearly 35 yards) after which her telekinetic
strength tapers off logarithmically to a maximum range of about fifty meters (or almost 55
yards).
Telekinetic Flight:
Like all Eternals, Sprite is capable of telekinetic flight. Within the Earth's atmosphere
she is able to sustain speeds around Mach 1, the speed of sound; possibly faster in space due to the
lack of atmospheric friction. While incapable of the speeds of truly superhuman flyers like Ikaris,
Kryptonians she can fly circles around pretty much anyone else.
Telepathy:
Like most Eternals, Sprite possesses telepathic abilities although hers are extremely weak
in the grand scheme of things. She has the generally expected powers being able to read surface
thoughts, implant suggestions in people's minds (allowing her to "control the weak-minded") and use
telepathy to communicate at a distance. Her range is limited, being only about ten meters (or close
to eleven yards), she has to see her "target" to use the power (but can maintain it out of line of
sight) and any control or influence gained is brief, measured in minutes at best. She has a
relatively well fortified mind however, telepaths of her own caliber find her mental defenses nearly
impossible to breach.
Teleportation:
Sprite, like most Eternals, can teleport. However, the process is incredibly disturbing for
them as they must literally disassemble their form, breaking down their bodies to the atomic level,
and reassemble it elsewhere. It requires intense concentration, knowledge of the destination and is
taxing on their endurance as well. This ability's range is measured at the scale of planets allowing
Sprite to travel anywhere on Earth in mere moments and even into low Earth orbit. She can take
others with her as well, up to three total, but it would be as unpleasant for them as for her as
they will be conscious of the process and it will tap their energy reserves as well.
Skills
Fashionista:
Since her rebirth in 1906, Sprite has found her enduring love of arts and creative endeavors
embracing fashion as a method of self-expression. Her knowledge of fashion is encyclopedic back to
the early 20th century but stretches back into antiquity. She isn't a tailor or seamstress but other
than those skills she has a full gamut of techniques and know-how to design an outfit and wear it
(or have it worn) with style.
History:
Sprite practically invented the human concept of history and civilization. Between that fact
and her ability to perfectly recall memories she is a living repository of the development of
humanity. While she would not know the ins and outs of every day in every place in the world she
knows all the major strokes to a greater degree than the most learned archaeologist or historian
that has ever lived.
She has even personally interacted with some of the major players in the
stage of world history, especially storytellers of any ilk.
Multilingual:
What is a storyteller if the audience cannot understand them? Having personally observed
some of the earliest human languages develop and travelling the world for millennia Sprite is fluent
in more languages than modern linguists know of, living and dead. As long as a language wasn't
secret or extremely rare she is likely to know it or be able to recall it quickly... and she may
even know some of those as well.
Reconnoiterer:
Sprite's primary tactical role among the Eternals she came to work with was never going to
be that of a combatant. Rather she is an information gatherer, a messenger, a scout and a spy. Sure,
she's capable of adjusting the perceptions of those around her but she is capable of sneaking about
and observing without the application of her powers and she's had hundreds of human lifetimes to
master these skills.
Storyteller:
Sprite is a capable creator of yarns that manage to impress and insinuate themselves into
people's thoughts and memories. You may have heard of some of them: tales of Gilgamesh and Enkidu,
the story of the son of a master craftsman who flew too close to the sun and a myriad of others.
This extends to subterfuge in addition to entertainment and educating.
Warrior:
Despite looking like a child, Sprite is an Eternal and was created by the Celestials to be
an agent of their will. This requires her to sometimes perform acts of violence and for such she has
the appropriate skills. She has knowledge of the use of many forms of ancient weapons but her
specialty is with small blades, especially knives, as well as bows and slings for attacks at range.
She also knows various forms of hand-to-hand combat, particularly those that capitalize on her size
as she rarely faces opponents her own size, let alone those smaller than her.
Resources
Homo Immortalis:
Sprite is a member of the Homo immortals species who came into being around 50,000 BCE in
the realm of New Genesis where she resided for five thousand years before being sent to Earth. As a
member of this immortal race she maintains close ties of kinship with the residents of New Genesis
and the hidden colony in Saturn's moon Titan. Many would assume her first loyalty is to Highfather
on New Genesis but her true loyalties are first to herself and then those who accompanied her to
Earth, however any of her cousins might answer her call to provide support to one degree or
another.
Identities:
Sprite is and always has been Sprite. But there are times when being someone else helps. She
has, over her immensely long lifetime, developed a catalog consisting of a myriad of false names and
backstories that she can slip into and out of as needed. Many have illusionary appearances that she
can pick up and drop as easily as most people change their attire. Chief among these, and most
commonly used, is Robin Goodfellow who, since Sprite's rebirth in 1906 has been her respectably
mature young woman that Sprite can use to play at adult life when the desire strikes her.
Mother Box:
Sprite possesses a Mother Box. In the simplest terms, a Mother Box is a living computer;
part New Genesis tech, part sapient being. Each one is unique in personality and forms a bond with
one being in its lifetime: its user. Mother Boxes communicate with their users via a ping that only
the user can understand and obey their commands to the best of its abilities. Most Mother Boxes have
the appearance of an exotic tech device roughly the size and shape of a standard, modern building
brick; Sprite's Mother Box, due to a particular ability she possesses, rarely appears in that
physical state as explained below in her list of abilities.
Mother Boxes are capable of
multiple functions, Sprite's have these abilities:
* Basic Computing Abilities: Should she
wish, Sprite can ask her Mother Box to perform basic functions like mathematical calculations,
record keeping, data analysis, etc. Think sapient, god created smart phone.
* Boom Tubes: Mother
Boxes can open stable wormholes that permit travel though space and alternate dimensions along the
world tree Yggdrasil. These portals appear like large tubes and as they open they generate a loud
"boom" (thus the name) and a wash of energy across multiple wavelengths; it is impossible to use
them secretly due to this but Boom Tubes are also extremely difficult to trace after it is closed.
This function has a high energy demand and requires the Mother Box to have at least a short
resting period (dozens of minutes to about half an hour) before it or other high energy demand
functions can be used again.
* Energy Source: A Mother Box can transfer its stored cosmic energy
to its user for a short burst of cosmic power enhancing their personal limits.
This
function has a high energy demand and requires the Mother Box to have at least a short resting
period (dozens of minutes to about half an hour) before any other high energy demand functions can
be used again; this function takes longer, many hours, for the Mother Box to have sufficient energy
reserves to be used again.
* Hyperspace Storage: Mother Boxes grant their users access to a
small, dedicated pocket dimension in which the user can quickly store and access physical items. Its
capacity is equivalent to a large storage locker.
* Morphic Form: Sprite's Mother Box has a
particular ability, possibly unique to it, to change its own form. Most commonly this is into the
form of a knife with a blade about half a foot long. She can convince it to become a tool -- a
spanner or a hammer for example -- but her Mother Box doesn't like being such a mundane form. It can
also make itself into a part of her uniform, disappearing into the outfit as if going into the
hyperspace storage mentioned above.
* Translation: Mother Boxes can perform real time
translations for any languages in its database which spans multiple worlds and realities.
*
Uniform Transmogrification: Likely related to her ability to transform her form, Sprite's Mother Box
has the ability to change the style, structure and color of Sprite's uniform. This is purely
cosmetic, it doesn't make anything more protective than a leather biker's jacket or an extremely
simple environmental suit that can even sustain the user in space for a few hours.
It
can create matter from nothing (though the use of cosmic power) because she can remove part of the
outfit and that will persist as what it is but ceasing being a true part of the uniform once
separated from the rest of it for a whole day.
Wealthy:
One must be an ascetic to live for so many thousands of years and not have some possessions.
Although she's not ostentatious with it, Sprite has caches of artifacts around the world in addition
to bank accounts around the world, including ones at some of the oldest banks in the world. All of
her wealth is in a trust which is managed by the world's oldest continually operating law firm,
Thomson Snell & Passmore in Kent (in the United Kingdom); even they don't know the truth of her
identity and being, instead believing that they are managing the wealth of a string of scions of a
long fallen noble British house.
Weaknesses
Celestials:
The nigh omnipotent beings known as Celestials created the Eternals to work for them and in
that Sprite is no different than others of her kind. As such, she would likely serve their wishes
should they make them known to her. However, she also has had centuries of freedom from the
Celestials' rule so maybe she won't serve them so willingly... But what would space gods do when
their creations rebel?
Eternal Youth:
While some people would wish for eternal youth, being eternally a child of eleven or even
fifteen years of age has its problems. Sprite is often considered too young to be included in
"adult" conversations and treated with kid gloves by those don't know her well enough to do
otherwise.
Hidden:
Sprite's true identity as a more than fifty millennia old being is a fact that she keeps
close to her chest. Should this secret become known it would threaten the ties she is building in
this century one way or another.
Radion:
Eternals, or Homo immortalis, were engineered with a failsafe. Exposure to an extremely rare
form of energy, known as radion, drains their stores of Power Cosmic rapidly. A lengthy exposure can
lead to damage to the Eternal which could cause power loss (long term or permanent) or even death.
