Daniel Ketch is just a young man with bad luck that seems unable to hold a job for long and seems to be failing at life. The Ghost Rider is a terrifying vigilante infamous for how violent he often becomes. Many people don't believe he is a supernatural being, but those who know enough about the supernatural will recognize a one of the legendary Spirits of Vengeance in modern trappings.

Timeline

Timeline:
* Over a million years ago: Several winged demi-gods (called Angels by some) serving a benevolent and (allegedly) omnipotent creator god, saddened and enraged at the injustices they saw in the mortal world, petition their creator to be allowed to impart divine justice upon the sinners. After some deliberation, the god-creator allows this, with several conditions that limit the angels and yet allow them to keep their power during long periods far from the cities of Heaven. Among other things, they need to pick a mortal host and share their life with him or her. The first Spirits of Vengeance appear on Earth (and other worlds).
* Many thousands of years ago: The omnipotent creator god vanishes. Likely killed by some other 'omnipotent creator deity' or cosmic entity. The Angels pretend he is just away for important business and keep going, but the Spirits of Vengeance are left without a way back home. One by one, they fall in battle and are destroyed, or become corrupted. A few persevere.
* A few centuries ago: One of the few remaining Spirits of Vengeance confronts and is defeated by Mephisto. The demon almost destroys him, keeping the remains as a trophy.
* 1680: Pastor Kale, a corrupted Puritan priest descendent of a millennia old line of magicians, murders the witch Magdalena and attempts to sacrifice Noble, husband of Magdalena and his oldest child, to Mephisto. Mephisto merges the remains of a Spirit of Vengeance with Noble to use him as a puppet. The Archangel Uriel intercedes, claiming Noble's soul is under his protection, and frees Noble, who becomes the Ghost Rider. The Rider and his Hellhorse roam the nights of Seventeenth Century New England, fighting monsters, demons, and the schemes of his own father. The first of a line of Ghost Riders bound to the Kale bloodline.
* 1960: The young witch Naomi Kale becomes the Ghost Rider. After many misadventures she makes a valiant attempt to life a normal life, marrying a man called Barton Blaze and having a son, John.
* 1974: The past catches up with Noemi, she is forced to fake her death to protect Barton and Johnny, and returns to the occult world, to demon-slaying and fighting the good fight.
* 1999: Naomi gives birth to the twins Barbara and Daniel. For their protection she leaves them to the care of his friends, the Ketch.
* 2002: Naomi is killed in battle with Mephisto's servants. However, she manages to send the Spirit of Vengeance away, asking him to protect her children.
* 2018: The night of Halloween of 2018, Daniel and Barbara, now teenagers, stumble into a fight between ninjas (working for the villain Deathwatch) and local gangsters. Barbara is shot and falls unconscious. Chassed by ninjas, Daniel manages to carry her sister to a nearby junkyard where he stumbles on a perfectly preserved custom made motorcycle. Naomi Kale's motorcycle. When Barbara's blood falls on the bike, Daniel transforms into the Ghost Rider. The Rider carries Barbara to the closest hospital and returns to hunt down ninjas and gangsters.
A few days later Barbara is murdered by the super-villain Blackout, sent by Deathwatch.
* 2019-21: Daniel is the Ghost Rider, clashing repeatedly with supernatural criminals, constantly drawn into quests for vengeance and unable to lead a normal life or hold a job for long. He makes few friends and many enemies. His adopted mother, Francis Ketch, has a heart attack and dies in August 2021, leaving Daniel a small house and many debts. He is forced to sell the house and live on the road.

Personality

Daniel_Ketch:
Daniel Ketch: A few years ago Daniel was a regular teenager who liked motorcycles and wanted to find a job as a mechanic, while dreaming about professional racing. He had a beautiful girlfriend, he had a sister he loved, and although his father died years ago, his mother was close. Since the Ghost Rider irrupted in his life, he has lost everything. And he has discovered a dark world exists under the world's appearance of being a heroic age of discovery and wonder. Demons, vampires, monsters without name, and worse, lurk in the shadows.

So, Daniel is not a happy young man. He has grown cynical and toughened a lot. The Ghost Rider is also affecting his personality (and vice-versa) and so Daniel has also grown brave to the point of foolhardiness, stubborn and angry. He rarely laughs, he is prone to sarcasm as humor and he is beginning to drink a little too much.

The Rider:
The Ghost Rider: An ancient demi-god millennia old, the Ghost Rider no longer remember his real name. In fact, he barely remembers anything from before he was merged with Noble Kale, as Mephisto did all he could to wipe out his memory. Unsurprisingly the Ghost Rider firmly believes he /is/ Noble Kale. And although Noble was a good, virtuous man, he went much darker after his own father murdered his wife. 'Noble' is grim, relentless, utterly fearless and implacable. He is focused in two things: the protection of the innocent and the punishment of the guilty. Daniel's personal life comes a distant third.

Powers

1.transformation:
Daniel's only 'power' is the ability to summon the Ghost Rider. Although it is not always a voluntary summoning, he /can/ summon him to the world at will. The transformation only takes a few seconds.

If innocent blood is spilt near Daniel, even if he unaware, the Ghost Rider will know, and attempt to force the change himself.

After some years of practice, Daniel can suppress the transformation, or at least delay it a few minutes. However, if the provocation is too great, the Ghost Rider will override Daniel's wishes.

While he is not on Earth, the Ghost Rider exists in the void between worlds, in a state of meditation that allows him to heal and recharge the power a being like him loses by being on Earth too long. The Raider is not completely unaware in this state. He has visions of what is going on around Daniel. He will immediately know if Daniel is injured or under attack. This ability sometimes also works with regards other members of the Kale family.

When the Ghost Rider manifests Daniel's body and mind is sent to the void in his place. Daniel is not aware of the passing of time in the void, he is unconscious and in stasis.

2. Spirit of Vengeance:
Even for a supernatural being, the Ghost Rider is very unusual. He is a massive skeleton (of very dense bone, akin to most godlings) wreathed in ectoplasmic, heatless flames, and clad in spiky biker's leathers (the last part is Daniel's subconscious contribution to the assemble). He looks terrifying and unstoppable, how can a magical skeleton be stopped?

It is not easy. The Ghost Rider is invulnerable, or extremely resistant, to many forms of harm. Fire, heat, cold, poison or radiation are harmless for him. The void of space won't hurt him and he can survive the pressure of the bottom of the oceans with little difficulty. He is somewhat vulnerable to overwhelming kinetic force, but will recover quickly from purely physical damage. The Ghost Rider does not need water, food or air to survive and is physically tireless. He suffers from mental fatigue, but he is a supernatural being that can remain active for weeks before his mental faculties become hindered.

The Ghost Rider possesses great superhuman strength, being able to lift about 10 tons. This strength increases if he is fulfilling his tasks. If innocent blood has been spilt, if he is facing evil, he becomes stronger. In Earth, when fighting mortal criminals, his limits are about 25 tons. But when facing supernatural evil, such as demons, or when travelling through mystical realms where godlings and demons reside, he can manifest his true potential, which is equivalent to a strong demigod, able to lift around 50 tons.

The Rider's speed, agility, balance and reflexes are better than even those of an Olympic athlete, into the low superhuman (or rather, supernatural) level. He can do things like catch an arrow in flight, run at 40 mph or keep his balance and keep fighting on the deck of a small ship in the middle of a hurricane.

As commented before, he is very tough. Bullets, even high calibre bullets, can't harm him. At most they will put a hole in his leather outfit and chip a bone, and that will heal in seconds. Something like an anti-armor sniper rifle going through his skull can stun him a few seconds, but he recovers very quickly. He starts taking real damage to anti-tank weapons and large explosions, as well as the fists of super-humans that are in the 25+ tons range. It is possible to break enough bones and disrupt his physical form to render him immobile for a few minutes. But he regenerates very quickly, particularly if innocents are still in danger. Total destruction of his body through overwhelming force will force him into the void for a few hours, bringing back Daniel Ketch, who is as vulnerable to harm as any normal human.

Killing Daniel will keep the Rider in the void. At least for a while. Eventually he will find a new worthy host and seek vengeance.

The Ghost Rider can only be destroyed for good through supernatural means (see weaknesses).

3.all-Speak:
The Ghost Rider's voice is heard as a resounding bass, eerie echoing inside the mind regardless of ambient noises. It is almost impossible not to hear him, even the deaf can understand what he says, and language is not a barrier. This is not psychic ability; it is the magic of the divine All- Speak. The Rider understands all spoken languages, but he can read only a few that his pasts hosts (since Noble Kale) could read. English, Latin, French and Spanish. He can also read Enochian, which it is his native language.

4.hellfire:
Or more correctly, Empyreal Fire. A form of supernatural fire that can burn the soul of mortals, the Hellfire is 'felt' as a terrible cold and supernatural paralyzing fear by most affected. It will bypass normal physical defenses, which makes it a devastating weapon against otherwise invulnerable or out of phase enemies. The Rider's flame is not strong enough to destroy a soul, or even cause permanent damage (most people fully recover in a few hours, days at most) but it can have deep psychological effects, often causing remorse for past deeds and the willingness to change one's ways.

The Hellfire has much less effect in immortals and zero effect in soulless beings. Powerful deities, such as Thor, have commented that for them it is nothing more than a cool breeze.

The Ghost Rider can create flames from his hands, eyes or mouth (he favors 'breathing fire') with a range of a few yards. He can also project normal fire instead of Hellfire, to set combustible materials on fire (or people). The regular flames are just a few hundred degrees hot and won't melt iron or most metals.

5.evil Detection:
Not really. Evil is a relative term. But the Ghost Rider has a form of clairvoyance that allows him to know when someone is directly hurting others within a few hundred yards area. 'When innocent blood is spill, the Ghost Rider is summoned' is not a vague promise. It really happens. The largest the crime, the further away the Rider feels it. He will feel it through Daniel, when he is not even in the world.

He can also feel when someone has done great harm in the past, but usually he will detect only supernatural murderers, demons or monsters. It would require a murderer of the Red Skull's caliber for a mortal to even register.

6.penance Stare:
The Penance Stare is a devastating form of mystic assault on the mind and spirit of a target. The Ghost Rider confronts the target with all the harm he or she has inflicted on others and makes the victim to relieve it in a few seconds. The experience is traumatic even for relatively benign characters, and utterly devastating for the psyches of real criminals. The worse the crimes, the worse is the Penance Stare, to the point of driving some persons permanently insane. Even a normal person, guilty only of little sins, would be incapacitated with pain and flashbacks for one to five minutes (violent criminals usually need hours to recover, if they ever do).

A strong will and a disciplined mind are always useful to resist the Penance Stare and to recover faster from its effects. But only complete innocents are truly safe: The Penance Stare has no effect at all on very young children.

However, it also has limited effect on the insane, as in some cases they act without malicious intent, or are simply unable to understand they have done harm.

Likewise, sometimes religious characters that have been cleansed or absolved of crimes by an anointed priest on good faith are shielded from the Penance Stance. Likewise, since it is a mystic assault, it is possible there can be spells and magic items that can shield a person from the Stare.

To use the Penance Stare on someone the Ghost Rider must be look at the eyes of the target for a couple seconds, and within a foot or so of the victim. It is an extremely close range attack and often requires a restrained target. This also means blind people can't be attacked.

7.psychic Defenses:
Although the Ghost Rider believes he was a mortal man called Noble Kale and that he has been around about three and a half centuries, he is not, and has never been, a human.

He is an ancient, immortal supernatural entity. His mind is not built like a human mind; it is alien territory even for expert telepaths. It is also much sturdier than a human mind, able to stand psychic assaults from extra-dimensional eldritch horrors that could shatter a human psyche with a glance.

Bottom line: Very hard to read. Pretty much impossible to manipulate or knock out with psychic powers.

On top of that, the Ghost Rider doesn't need to establish eye-to-eye contact to hit with the Penance Stare if there is a telepathic link.

8.weapons:
The Ghost Rider can create objects imbued with its own supernatural essence. It is actually a very, very powerful ability (just watch what the Green Lanterns can do with a similar ability) which he can't use because he is acting on instinct and the unconscious desires of the host. So instead of something like a holy flaming sword, he has a chain.

An indestructible chain that is often on fire and can stretch several dozen yards, act as a lasso and also, sometimes, became a huge scythe.

It can also snap mid-strike into a number of Japanese throwing stars that shoot at near bullet speed and can to go even through metal armor as it was cardboard. Why? Probably because just before become linked (or possessed) by the Ghost Rider Daniel Ketch was attacked by ninjas that tried to kill him with throwing stars. He found it terrifying and the Ghost Rider instinctively latched on the idea.

9.motorcycle:
The Ghost Rider rides a powerful motorcycle of futurist design with wheels on fire (which won't burn anyone, yet leave trails of flames on the road that persist a few seconds). The motorcycle replaces whatever motorcycle Daniel is riding when he transforms, but actually the Ghost Rider can summon a new one at will. This is another created device and it really it -barely- conforms to the behavior of a real motorcycle. Centuries ago the Ghost Rider rode flaming hellhorses, and they had the same capabilities, being different only in appearance.

The 'machine' is able to run at astonishing speeds, close to supersonic, over land and water and even the walls of buildings and ceilings of tunnels, and it can take tremendous punishment and keep working perfectly. It can also magically defy the laws of physics, making too tight turns, absurd acceleration/deceleration that could kill a normal person (and yet they won't hurt those carried by the Rider).

Even dimensional travel is possible, but generally only done when the Ghost Rider is chasing someone in the name of vengeance.

Skills

Driving:
Daniel used to drive motorbikes in amateur races, and he is very experienced using them. He has kept his skills, despite not racing anymore.

For the Ghost Rider his flaming motorcycle is an extension of his will. He is impossibly skilled with it, in the sense he can do things with his bike that are impossible according to the laws of physics.

Fighting:
Fighting: Daniel Ketch is good hand to hand fighter. He has been in many brawls the last few years, and his friend Jack D'Auria trained him in basic martial arts. He is not going to win a fight with Daredevil, but he can fend off regular thugs and your average Hand ninja. He is also competent with handguns, shotguns and improvised weapons.

On the other hand the Ghost Rider has millennia of experience in all kinds of battles. Unfortunately, he is amnesiac and can't remember the most complex techniques, or even what he can really do with most weapons. But his instincts are sharp, and his combat reflexes honed by countless battles. He is a direct, brutal and deadly fighter, quite able to match other immortal warriors with centuries of experience.

Intimidation:
This is mostly a Ghost Rider thing.

Some people train for years, cultivate the attitude and dress up as flying mammals, so they are able to terrify hardened criminals.

And some people are walking skeletons on fire that just know when you have sinned. And when they say 'I am Vengeance' you can't have the hope they perhaps are just hyper-skilled martial artists with a ten million dollars battlesuits.

The Ghost Rider IS Vengeance. Everyone is guilty of something. The Ghost Rider will not just break some bones; he will BURN your SOUL.

The Ghost Rider was not merely trained to fight monsters, he was created by a superior entity to combat and terrify monsters.

Occult:
Daniel knows a bit too much about the monsters that haunt the night to sleep well at night. He has seen vampires, demons, zombies, sorcerers and more. The Caretaker has taught him some of the dark secrets of the world, too. He is not an expert, but he knows the basic threats and how to deal with them.

Meanwhile the Ghost Rider has pretty much seen everything. But he can't remember most of it, unless confronted directly with them. Sometimes not even then.

Streetwise:
Daniel has a surprisingly solid knowledge of the workings and life of gangers, drifters, gangsters and assorted street people. In fact, he is becoming one of them. He could actually become a decent private eye if he wanted, and if the Ghost Rider wouldn't most likely beat to pulp the guilty parts.

Resources

The Caretaker:
The Caretaker is an old but vigorous man that seems to have an interest in Daniel's welfare and crime-fighting career. He is actually part of an ancient clan or humans called the Blood, who have some mild supernatural powers and can live for centuries. The Caretaker was a close friend and ally of Naomi Kale and he tries to steer Daniel the right path without revealing too many of the secrets he has sworn to keep. It is not easy, since Danny has become a brooding and stubborn young man, and the Caretaker himself has his own responsibilities elsewhere.

The Caretaker is a white- haired, powerfully-built gentleman that looks in his sixties. He knows a vast amount of occult lore, he can perform ritual magic, and he can hit people with a shovel. He has some degree of super-human strength. He can knock out most people with that shovel.

The Motorcyle:
Daniel has very little on the form of material possessions left. But he has Naomi Kale's motorcycle and he can't lose it. There is some kind of spiritual link between it and the Ghost Rider. Technically the Rider can imbue any vehicle (or even a riding animal) with his power, but he almost always summons and rides this motorcycle. Which when he leaves, it becomes the same vehicle.

https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/uploads/original/14/147508/5895566- ketch08139.jpg

The bike is obviously custom-made. The base might have been a large 90s crotch rocket at some point, but now it has black armor plates attached to the sides and a large windscreen with insert headlights (it makes a very effective ram). It is very heavy, and yet it still handles very well and has a top speed over 200 mph.

Weaknesses

Amnesiac:
The Ghost Rider has forgotten millennia of life experiences. In fact, he is hardly a functional being. He needs a host to give him perspective and modern day knowledge. He possesses god-like powers, but he can only manifest a few of them because he can't remember how to use them.

Cursed and Fated:
Daniel's bloodline has magic in its veins. For centuries the Kale bloodline has produced occultists, sorcerers and demon-hunters, but many times they had no choice to become those, and pretty much none of them has lived a happy life or died of old age. It is surprising they manage to leave children behind, but that is how magic works. Fact is Daniel's ancestors have been interfering with powerful malevolent entities for centuries and those beings have responded heaping maledictions and curses upon the bloodline. It is hard to come up with specifics of how this works, but we can begin with 'mind-boggling bad luck' and end with 'Ghost Rider host'.

Enemies:
The Ghost Riders have been long known to the dark entities that prey on human souls and often seek to conquer Earth. True demons hate and fear them, and will go out of the way to harm them and their hosts. The demon Mephisto has spend considerable resources across the millennia trying to destroy all the Ghost Riders. Mephisto corrupted Zarathos, perhaps the greatest of the Ghost Riders, and has captured and destroyed many other Spirits of Vengeance. In fact, it is possible Mephisto knows how to create false Ghost Riders bound to his will. The Mother of Monsters, Lilith, is another powerful demon that particularly hates the Ghost Riders and seeks to destroy them. There are many others. Almost all the great demon lords has seen plans foiled by the Spirits of Vengeance, as have many immortal sorcerers, long-standing clandestine organizations and extra-dimensional predators.

On a personal level, most families of the New York underground would like to kill the Ghost Rider. This is true for most crime-fighting super-beings, but the Rider is particularly threatening. Maybe second to the Punisher alone.

Poor:
Daniel has very little in his name. His close family is dead, he is homeless, and he can't hold a job for long. What job he has in each moment is usually low wages, so he can't afford many things the average American can afford. He lives in a run-down apartment far from New York downtown, and some days can't afford more than one good meal.

Terrifying:
Well, the Ghost Rider is a flaming skeletons in biker leathers. Many confuse him with a demon from hell. And he scares the hell out of most people. Cops will shoot at him without asking questions. Civilians run away and won't talk to him unless forced. Even veteran super-heroes tend to assume he is the bad guy and attack him.
