Laxmi is a budding musician at the beginning of her career, determined to succeed despite her dark skin and mutant status. She hopes to be a trail blazer, opening access to opportunities normally closed to people like her. It's a steep hill to climb - but she's confident of her abilities.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 1998: Born in December to parents Kiaan and Binita. She is the fifth and last child. Older siblings are: Aanya (f), Ekiya (f), Aahan (m), and Ishaan (m).
* 2001: From a young age, Laxmi showed an afinity for music and dance. She begins copying performances of traditional dances at Hindu cultural festivals.
* 2004: Laxmi's parents support their daughter's passion for the performing arts by enrolling her in Kathak dance.
* 2005: Laxmi begins singing lessons as well - focusing first on traditional Indian singing practices, before eventually studying modern Western singing as well.
* 2008: Laxmi begins studying the sarod - a traditional stringed instrument.
* 2011: Laxmi becomes known amongst her community for her usually moving singing voice. Unknown to her and her audience, this was the first manifestation of her mutant abilities.
* 2012: While performing a Kathak dance to commemorate the Phulaich Festival, Laxmi instinctively creates a few illusions to enhance the performance - manifesting the flowers plucked to honor the dead in shimmering, transluscent form.
* 2017: Laxmi graduates from public High School and is accepted into Juilliard.
* 2021: Recently graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in Vocal Arts, Laxmi seeks to share her art with the world, melding traditional Indian singing techniques with modern musical styles, and taking advantage of her own unique gifts.

Conceited:
Look - Laxmi's a talented girl, and she knows it. And she believes in honesty. So it's no surprise that, every so often, she lets slip a sign of her rather healthy sense of self-worth. It's not bragging if it's true. Right?
Friendly:
Whether it's part of her Hindu upbringing, or simply a part of her own nature, Laxmi is always a warm and friendly presence. She shares warm smiles with everyone she comes in contact with, and is an attentive and curious listener. And if she is able to help someone - she usually does.
Generous:
Laxmi is generous with her time and attention. In particular, she delights in using her talents to help inspire and encourage other artists, particularly younger artists. She is always ready to answer a question, give a demonstration, and coach someone to improve their skills or acquire new ones. She is also always prepared to share anything she has with those who have less than her.
Hard Working:
Music and art is hard work - and Laxmi knows this. She spends hours every day, practicing her sarod, singing, and dancing. She also spends time dabbling in composition - attempting to create music that melds modern popular music with the music she grew up with. She also practices her mutant powers - in particular her illusions.
Polite:
Having been raised in a traditional Hindu household, Laxmi has Hindu cultural norms and rules of behavior firmly schooled into her behavior. As a result, she keeps a polite social distance of three feet from others whenever possible, never touches others in public (even to shake hands), always shows respect to her elders, and lives life joyously, treating everyone with kindness and consideration.

Illusions:
Though Laxmi doesn't entirely understand why, her ability with illusions first manifested while she was performing Kathak dance and has remained tied to movement ever since. Her illusions manifest as transluscent, shimmering effects which her family has insisted that she keep hidden from the world since the first time she accidentally manifested them during a performance. Now that she's out of school and starting a career, however, she has begun to practice them more studiously, hoping to capitalize on the ability in her performances. She is also experimenting to see if she is capable of creating more solid and realistic looking illusions - without much luck, yet.
Siren's Song:
The first power Laxmi manifested is her Siren's Song - and is tied to her voice. While singing, she has the ability to manipulate her audience - calming them, or eliciting joy, awe, melancholy or even anger - though the latter two she uses with sparing care. Since this power isn't obvious when it's being used, she's been able to use and practice it throughout her young performing career. This has lead to more than one review calling her performances 'unusually moving.'
Skills
Kathak Dance:
Kathak dance is a form of storytelling dance native to Northern India. It features precise hand movements, foot movements, and facial expressions to help convey the meaning to the audience. Laxmi has been studying Kathak Dance since she was five, and is a skilled dancer.
Sarod:
A sarod is a stringed instrument from India with a deep, weighty and introspective sound. It is a fretless instrument with anywhere from 17 to 25 strings. Laxmi's instrument has 19 strings, and is of the Amjad Ali Khan school of sarod music. Laxmi has been studying the Sarod since she was 9 years old.
Singing:
Laxmi's body is her instrument - she has been studying the vocal arts since she was 6 years old, and majored in the Vocal Arts at Juilliard. She is skilled at both traditional Indian styles of singing, and modern Western vocal styles. She enjoys singing while accompaying herself on her sarod, and often experiments in melding traditional music with modern styles.

Loving Family:
Laxmi has a large, successful, loving family to fall back on should misfortune ever strike - though her parents don't understand their daughter wishes to try living on her own, rather than simply staying in the family home until she marries, like she should.
Weaknesses
Culture Clash:
Like many others, Laxmi is a woman trapped between two cultures. Raised in a traditional Hindu family, much of Laxmi's behavior is prescribed by her family's cultural norms and any deviation from this is severely discouraged. And being a young woman of marrying age, her mother seems determined to find a match for her daughter before she can become an old maid - which could mean the end of any serious career for the young musician. On the other hand - she's grown up in America, where women are free to behave as they wish and find their own path in life, including their own partner. There's an allure in that, and Laxmi is quietly envious of the freedoms many of her peers enjoy.
Target of Bigotry:
Not only is she a mutant - but Laxmi's dark skin also marks her as a dalit, a member of the untouchable caste in Indian culture. But this is America - and modern America at that. Laxmi is determined to be successful - dark skin, mutant powers and all, refusing to bow to the pressure to hide her abilities or lighten her skin.
Terrible Cook:
Though her mother and older sisters have tried, and Laxmi has dutifully paid attention and followed directions, she somehow remains a terrible cook without direct supervision. This may not seem like a problem to many people - but as her mother often points out, how is she going to find a husband if she can't cook?
