An upstanding young woman from Vietnam who attends school at an elite private institution OR the niece of an international gangster with terrifying mutant powers? Xi'an ("Shan") Coy Minh is both of these and more, having stood with the New Mutants as a costumed adventurer for years. Dedicated to the care of her loved ones, sometimes to extremes.

Timeline:
* 1998: Xi'an and Tran Coy Manh born, Vietnam
* 2007: Younger siblings Leong and Nga Coy Manh born (also twins)
* 2009: Family caught up in criminal proceedings against Xi'an's uncle, Lt. Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Coy. Xi'an and Tran use similar mutant powers against a VN soldier on patrol. Tran and Nguyen travel directly to Madripoor: Xi'an and younger twins arrive as refugees months later.
* 2012-2013: Xi'an approached by Nguyen about using her mutant powers to assist with criminal operations. Xi'an refuses; travels to America with aid of a sympathetic priest.
* 2014-2015: Assorted mishaps conclude with Xi'an residing at Xavier's institute.
* 2015-2019: A wide range of uncanny, impossible, astonishing, fantastic, incredible and team-up adventures ensue as part of the New Mutants.

Cerebral:
Karma will tend to take the logical and reasonable path when faced with a challenge, valuing intellectual pursuits and being willing to swallow her feelings in tense conditions. This can be valuable in high-stress situations or when faced with truly bizarre or superficially repulsive situations, and can lead to its own kind of courage, by undertaking audacious but tightly-reasoned plans -- however, it can also lead to dithering and indecisiveness, as well as a vulnerability to compromising her values if somehow pressed by logical argument.

Filial:
Karma is strongly motivated by care and concern for her family, writ large to include the found family of the X-Men and New Mutants: she will in almost every case place the well-being of these people above strangers, especially when the chips are down and it is one or the other. She will go through great lengths to support and nurture them, and will have a great deal of interior conflict if she has to place one against the other or if she is driven to take sides in some high-stakes conflict.

Possession:
Karma's mutant power allows her to possess other sentient beings by psionic means. If this succeeds, the individual's consciousness is overwhelmed and their body is controlled by Karma, who can command them to undertake any action that they could normally - although she may be unfamiliar with these skills and abilities. This includes the use of superpowers, as well as any skills or abilities that Karma herself possesses. When the possession ends, the target will come to as if they had just regained focus - while very short periods of possession which did not involve significant movement might be written off as daydreams, most recipients will notice that something has happened.

Karma is capable of possessing two or three other beings at once but can only really focus on one at a time. She is able to command people from tens of miles away (although she may need to be closer for initial contact) -- however, determined and oppositional wills, psionic or mystical ability, or both may require Karma to be within a few yards at most. (And - like all powers - this requires consent to be used on another PC!)

Telepathy:
Karma can achieve direct mind-to-mind contact with others as a development of her primary ability. In addition to direct communication which can transcend language boundaries, Karma can share thought-forms and images, as well as defend herself from psionic attacks. She can also cooperate effectively with other telepaths, who can often boost the range and "strength" of her possession attempts. Karma has considerable latent potential in this field, however it does not come easily, and in most cases she will be outperformed by dedicated telepaths. (Outside of possession, of course.)

Combat:
As a semi-veteran costume adventurer, Karma has been trained in a range of self-defense techniques and can hold her own in a bar-fight or against opponents armed with bats and knives or similar equipment -- at least, until numbers begin to tell. She is also familiar with a wide range of infantry-type firearms and has at least seen heavier equipment fired, especially if it is the sort of thing you would find sloshing around Indochina.

Library Science:
Thanks to a detail-oriented perspective and a systematic way of thinking about things, Karma is pursuing a career in library science -- or at least is taking courses in it because let's be real that most mutants end up with careers better summarized by other terms. However, she is familiar with both academic and general-purpose classification systems as well as a lot of the nuances of maintaining and effectively using books and other resources. She may also be able to levy late fees.

Linguistics:
Karma speaks Vietnamese and English with native-speaker fluency, and is conversationally fluent in French, particularly the Madripoor dialect.

X-Men:
Or perhaps New Mutants would be more correct? As an established member of the paramilitary found family that is the X-folk, Karma has access to technological resources, places to stay, and a valuable support network, in addition to a small completely-independent salary for part-time work.

I Ate My Brother's Soul:
Oops. Karma and her twin brother did not have the common mutant trait of being immune to one another's powers, and when Karma attempted to possess him, she instead completely absorbed his soul. While this happened long ago, it may be metaphysically distinctive and is a major source of interior guilt for her.

My Criminal Uncle:
Karma's uncle, General Nguyen Ngoc Coy, is a crime lord resident primarily in Madripoor and with operations spread out across a large section of the world. He would really appreciate if Karma could come and work for him the same way Tran did, before she ate his soul (oops). He may express this desire through abduction and criminal violence when the opportunity arises, although he is a patient man.

Standing Completely Still:
While using her possession abilities, Karma is severely distracted. While she can move around without stumbling into things if her possess-ee is not in pitched combat or a comparable fully- absorbing activity, she cannot really focus on her surroundings. Since she does not have much in the way of intrinsic defenses, this is a major downside and can lead to her being blindsided.

Stupid Robot Leg:
Karma has a prosthetic right leg due to injuries sustained in the course of Adventure. While the advanced bionics are a match for the original's performance, it does not provide any superpowers, so it is instead a large piece of visually-distinctive metal which can also break, be detected, get magnetized, be stolen by raccoons, and so on. It could be worse...

That Hurts a Lot:
While *injury* is not sent back to Karma from people who she is possessing, *sensation* is. While training and experience has made her resistant to letting go of the possession in the face of her host's injuries, this places a drastic downside on many obvious and flexible uses of her power.

The Nightmare Barrier: Xi'an	August 22nd, 2021	Xi'an faces the shadows of her past, fear and temptation, to overcome a creature of nightmare blocking the heart of the crystal from her and her allies.
Shi'ar: The White Hot Room	August 20th, 2021	Having overcome the nightmare barrier, the X-men and their Green Lantern ally explore the tower in the center of the crystal's city, encountering the mysterious builder, before facing D'Ken and Davan Shakari. The battle seems to fracture the crystal around then (and perhaps all of reality with it), while the version of Jean they have found appears a corpse. Yet James makes contact with the Phoenix, who sweeps them into the center of its domain. It shows them a multitude of Phoenix hosts across time as they ask for their friend's return. The Phoenix agrees, although the process means they will be bonded again - and it demonstrates anger toward Lilandra for the Shi'ar's meddling. Soon after that, they are all ejected from the crystal, returned to the surface of M'Kraan for Illyana to transport home.
Shi'ar: Into the Crystal	August 15th, 2021	The X-Men break some perfectly good space quarantine gear and finally make contact with the M'kraan crystal, sensing a disturbance caused by D'Ken's meddling. Once inside its impossible space, they feel as though they can almost reach the center of everything, only to be cast into a void filled with the greatest horrors of their own souls.
Shi'ar: Sic Itur Ad Astra	August 8th, 2021	Illyana transports a team of X-Men (and a Green Lantern consultant!) to another Galaxy and the Shi'ar planet M'kraan. There, they find a world under ancient quarantine, a dead city of science, alien signage, Oan mysteries, and at the end of a long trail, a crystal containing incredible energy. Also, apparently, some very hostile quarantine measures.

Shi'ar: Heart and Mind	July 26th, 2021	Terry brings Lilandra to Xaviers, where she meets Charles and a number of X-men and students. Lilandra shares her knowledge of the Phoenix, through a psychic vision depicting the X-Men's encounter with the Brood, as well as knowledge of her brother D'Ken's ambitions to somehow control that power for himself, through an ancient crystal artifact on M'Kraan, deep in Shi'ar space. The X-Men are on high alert as they prepare for a long journey, and the Brotherhood is warned of -- and asked for help with -- the Shi'ar fleet in space.
