Hellboy is a bit of a public figure. Before the 1970's he was a creature of urban legend. However, in 1978 he helped defeat a Faerie Invasion of the UK while wielding Excalibur...and it somewhat thrust him into public view. The UN officially announced him as a proper citizen after that. He travels the world, working for mysterious bosses (The BPRD), fighting evil and helping making the world a safer, cooler place.

1944: The evil mystic Grigori Rasputin summons Hellboy to Earth. He appears miles away where he is discovered by allied agents and scientists, including Captain America. He is brought back to America, where he is raised by the agent and occultist, Brumhold.

1944 - 1952: He is raised in the original BPRD office in New Mexico. He is trained and lives among the agents and occultists. He grows fast, however, and is inhumanely tough. At age 9 he is made an official agent, and begins assisting properly.

1952 - 1979: Hellboy travels the world fighting monsters, mystics, lost gods, angels, demons and everything in between. He does a lot of good. Eventually the BPRD is folded into WAND. They attempt to keep him under wraps, but he is constantly spotted or seen. In 1979 he helps stop a faerie-caused apocalypse in the UK...and in response the UN officially announces him as a recognized citizen, with full public rights and permissions. After that he becomes a figure of some fame and infamy around the world, often appearing to help deal with various supernatural threats in somewhat spectacular ways.

1979 - 2020: He continues doing his duty and loving it. In 2020 the BPRD moves its official offices to the East Coast, and HB goes with it.

HB tends to act first and think later. When he DOES think later, he tends to know what he's doing. However, his first response is usually to leap headlong into a situation. Often this turns out alright for him. Sometimes, however, it really, really does not.

Hellboy isn't stupid. He knows and understands danger. However, he IS stupidly brave. He will stand up to insane threats, and put himself in grave danger to do the right thing, or get at the bad guy.

He may seem gruff on the outset, but he's a very caring individual. He looks after those who cannot look after themselves, and he loves animals (Especially cats). He has a hard time turning his back on people who really need it.

He ages...oddly. In 1954 he was about ten, but was physically an adult. He is now quite old, but has the physical body of an adult...even if he has the temperment of a teenager. It is unknown on whether he will actually ever age.

Demonic Endurance:
HB is much, much tougher then a human. He hasn't fully tested this, but he has directly charged an MG-42 machine gun, even taking those bullets at point blank range without even bruising. He can take mighty, mighty blows. He has been knocked through entire buildings, and then gotten back up with a grumble. Surely some things can hurt or even kill him, but they are few and far between. Truly powerful beings can certainly damage him.

Demonic Healing:
If actually damaged, HB heals at a very supernatural rate. Wounds close over a matter of hours. Also, while healing he can keep acting. He was once speared to a tree, and he pulled himself off of the spear and continued fighting his attacker.

Demonic Strength:
Hellboy is much stronger then a normal person. He is able to lift up to five tons without pushing himself. This also applies to his strength when swinging a weapon, or punching or kicking. If he really presses himself he can strain himself to an upwards of ten to fifteen tons.

Demonic Transformation:
He has only taken on his true demonic form on a few occurences, but he has the ability to now do it at will. He only does this is he really needs to, however, as he does not like how it makes him feel.

While transformed the following applies:

* he grows much larger, up to the size of Behemoth. He can level buildings. He can also be much smaller, and tends to be.

* He can summon pure hellfire, incinerating entire crowds of Hell's strongest soldiers.

* He can control lightning and call it down and summon storms.

* He can take truly godlike amounts of damage, and take on truly monstrous threats.

* His wings grow in, and he is able to properly fly.

Enhanced Sight:
Hellboy can see many times the normal distance of a human being. He cannot see miles, but he can pick up small details with ease, and pick out details at surprising distances.

Innate Multilingualism:
Perhaps because his blood comes from before Babel, but HB can innately understand any language. This also includes ancient, lost languages and magical ones. Alien languages, unless tied to Earth's ancient history, are not included with this.

Thermal Resistance:
Hellboy is completely immune to heat and its environments. He could wade through lava or walk through fire without issue.

He's a reader, even if you wouldn't guess it by looking at him. He's also lived through history, which helps! He has the equivilant of a PhD in Ancient History, but also knows quite a bit about various other academic subjects.

He's gruff, but an oddly likeable guy. Most people seem to gravitate towards him, and even the public tends to like him. There are always people who don't trust him, or think he is evil, but they are not the majority, oddly enough.

He prefers brawling, but he also owns an enormous handgun! He's pretty good with it, and is capable of making called shots at a decent distance. He's no sniper, though.

While HB is skilled with a firearm, he prefers getting up close and personal. He is a very, very proficient brawler, and with a mix of his skills and his abilities he can go toe to toe with some of the best. He's also shown himself to be pretty skilled with swords and other melee weapons.

Occult Knowledge:
His decades of experience as a paranormal investigator has given him expertise in folklore, magical rituals, the use of charms and curses, paranormal creatures and other related topics.

The BPRD is the shady, weird little relative of WAND. It is -technically- a branch of WAND, though it originated as its own branch of the government before it was swallowed up after Vietnam. They are funded off blackbooks and redacted folios by the government. They are technically SHIELD, but are all old oak interiors, dusty occult tomes, demonology and monsters. For obvious reasons, while HB is a public figure, the BPRD is not.

Hellboy is known. He's appeared in interviews, in magazines and more. He was an urban legend up until the 70's, when he wielded Excalibur to save London from a Faerie Invasion (Alongside other big heroes at the time). At that point he was vaulted into the public eye. Lots of people like him, and kids were Hellboy shirts and the like. Some folks think he is an evil demon, though, and he is a person of conflict with many.

Good Samaritan:
The Good Samaritan is an enormous handgun given to him by one of the super heroes who helped raise him. It packs one hell of a punch. He tends to fire rounds filled with silver filings or holy water or cold iron or whatever he needs for supernatural threats. It often runs out of ammo and is prone to jamming.

Hellboy is almost always seen wearing a large and heavy jacket that reaches well below his knees. The pockets of this jacket are typically filled with many of the charms and totems mentioned in 'Relics', granting him even greater paranormal protection.

Red Right Hand:
The Right Hand of Doom consists of a large forearm and hand that seem to be made from red stone. Though now it has become Hellboy's substitute right arm (due to a demon hacking off his original right hand as a baby and grafting the Hand in its place), the hand is effectively invulnerable and feels no pain, and is much like a sledgehammer when used to punch an enemy. Of course, being far larger than an ordinary human hand (or even Hellboy's own left hand), the Right Hand of Doom is not very suitable for use with most objects, although it has proven dexterous enough to catch a fly. Hellboy relies on his average-sized left hand to operate weapons and devices. Because of this, he is most likely ambidextrous.

The Right Hand of Doom was formerly the right hand of one of Anum, one of the "greater spirits" that watched over the burgeoning Earth, and is the hand the spirit used to create the dragon Ogdru Jahad. With that same hand, he bound the dragon, but then his fellow spirits turned upon him for his deeds, and destroyed him utterly, sparing only his right hand, which was kept and preserved by many races throughout history, including the first race of man.

As the hand which created and bound the Ogdru Jahad, it is also the key which will "loose and command" them; being something of a catalyst that will bring about the world's end.

It is not even necessary for the arm to be attached to Hellboy at all; even on its own it would perform its tasks. However, it has been suggested that if Hellboy dies while the Hand is attached to him, it would become useless. He has thus come to the conclusion that the only way to prevent it falling into the wrong hands is to keep and protect it.

HB carries a number of religious and occult relics with him, like a supernatural utility belt. These tend to be situational, but he has used items that have done things such as : Ressurect the very recently dead, banish ghosts, excorcise demons, hurt vampires, bind spirits to objects and similar. One of the most common is a rosary he always has on him.

There are people who will stop at nothing to end the world...and they need him to do it. Every now and again these cultists or monsters pop up all over again.

He works for the BPRD, and while he bucks sometimes at responsibility, he still has work to do.

HB has made a LOT of both supernatural and mundane enemies over the decades, and he constantly finds himself at odds with them.
