Brief Summary	Known as the Brotherhood of Mutants, this quasi-cult of disaffected mutants and metahumans obeys the mighty Magneto with something close to religious zeal. Cities all over the world have small and independent cells that commit crimes ranging from minor vandalism to major felonies. Scattered and disorganized, they still represent a significant threat to not just anti-meta crusaders, but humanity at large.

Since its founding in 1988 by Magneto, the Brotherhood of Mutants has been known as a radical metahuman faction and has been designated as a terrorist organization. The active leadership has changed several times over the decades, with Mystique and others playing the prominent role; though through most of their existence Magneto remains active in the background if not as the primary leader. While there is often a primary team of members, the Brotherhood also includes some cells scattered around the world, as well as most recently calling Asteroid M in orbit around the Earth their home. While the most central members often hold some profile among mutantkind, remote members may be common criminals who got into petty theft or vandalism, or who have have conducted raids of government property or destroyed public buildings.

In the past few years the Brotherhood attempted to changed directions, to look for a peaceful route toward their goals, but recent developments have caused the group to return to their original ways by following a new credo:

           THE BROTHERHOOD OF MUTANTS HOLDS IT TO BE TRUE THAT:

    * Scientifically, 'mutants' are defined as individuals who possess either a present manifestation of, or the potential for, manifesting genetic variations caused by the 24th or 'X' chromosome. They are a subgroup of the larger classification of 'meta-' or 'posthuman'.

    * Mutantkind is frequently viewed as an acceptable target of scorn, ridicule, and discrimination in countries around the world, with individuals expressing obvious posthuman traits regularly being subjected to prejudicial behavior regardless of their genetic makeup. Even countries with relatively friendly attitudes towards them often see mutant and mutant-identified persons suffering disproportionate levels of violence, socioeconomic hardship, and and social ostracization when compared to their peers. Thus:

    * Socially, 'Mutants' are defined as a human minority group marked by several common characteristics: inherent physical, mental, or spiritual traits that differ significantly from those of baseline homo sapiens; and the presence of one or more genetic variations caused by the 24th or 'X' chromosome, emergency metagene encoding, artificial Gen-Factor implementation, or other, as of yet undiscovered mechanisms.

    * The Nation-State of Genosha is the spiritual homeland of all Mutantkind. Every Mutant, no matter where they may be, is entitled to Genoshan citizenship and all the rights, privileges, and protections that come with it.

    * The Brotherhood of Mutants' primary purpose is to protect the well-being of Mutants throughout the world via any and all available means. This is to be accomplished through the strategic application of overwhelming force for the purposes of extracting diplomatic compromises where possible, force the perpetrators of crimes against Mutanity - especially those responsible for constructing and facilitating systems of Mutant oppression - to face justice, and neutralize any and all entities which represent a current or future existential threat to the safety of Mutantkind; the freeing of Mutants from unjust bondage, whether through diplomatic channels or forceful means; and providing outreach and support to Mutants in need via organizational resources and close ties with the Nation-State of Genosha.

    * The Brotherhood of Mutants' secondary purpose is to engage in research, development, and innovation towards the goal of constructing a future in which any and all individuals who differ significantly from baseline homo sapiens are treated equitably and afforded the security and resources that they need to lead full and happy lives.

    * While the Brotherhood of Mutants is willing to engage in necessary acts on behalf of Mutantkind regardless of legality in other nation states, it neither engages in nor pursues world domination, genocide, or mutant supremacy. To echo the sins of homo sapiens is to walk down the path to becoming them; Mutantkind has the potential to be greater than its predecessors, and the Brotherhood exists to guarantee that this potential is fulfilled.

    * The Brotherhood of Mutants accepts members regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religious beliefs, or criminal status. What Brotherhood members choose to do on their own time is up to them; the Brotherhood will, however, use its resources to ensure the safety of members who find themselves at odds with the laws of non-Genoshan jurisdictions.
